  • How to trace sevice names used in oracle names server

    We are in process of cleaning up our oracle names server (9.2.0.6). In process, we found several fault entries (service names) which we are not sure of.. ( as it is a large nework) but we need to fix them. For ex. abc. world may be pointing to a db server orcl on server1, but we may need this to point to orcl on server2 and so on..
    However, before making any changes on this names server, we want to be doubly sure of 'whether the service names are being used by anyone' (as this is the only names server supporting > 100 live db)? So, we want to trace the service names (and maybe the clients using them).. Is there a way out..?..
    Metalink note 299149.1 shows a way to trace clients.. but there is no way I found to trace the service names being used or not.
    kindly help.

    Select a button and look at properties. Check the option "Set Name From Link." You can select multiple buttons and do them at one go.

    Oracle Names is deprecated in 10g.
    You need to switch to Oracle Internet Directory/ LDAP

  • Oracle Names server stops after a few seconds

    Hi all,
    Working as a Server admin and DBA installed Oracle report server. They came to me saying the Oracle Names Server stops after a few seconds.
    There are 2 windows 2003 R2 32 bit servers, active passive config. The first server runs the service fine, this second server has the issue. Both servers were build the same..very strange that one would work and the other now.

  • Implement Oracle Aplication Server Portal - Starting work

    Hi everyone
    I work with java and Oracle database, manager oracle application server, but i need to learn Oracle Aplication Server Portal, i just to know some tips to start.
    How can i do that?
    Thanks
    José Vieira

    Hi José,
    The link :
    http://www.oracle.com/appserver/portal_home.html
    has a small text to the right that reads " Download Oracle Application Server 10g ". The first link in the download page is for " Application Server 10g Release 2 " - the installer for this allows you to install the Ifrastrcuture and the MiddleTier.
    During the installation of Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.2), you would have notice three options :
    1. J2EE & WebCache
    * Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control
    * Oracle HTTP Server Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J)
    * Oracle Application Server Web Cache
    2. Infrastructure
    * Oracle Database Server 10g (10.1.0.4.2)
    * Oracle Internet Directory
    * Oracle Application Server Single Sign-On
    * Oracle Application Server Directory Integration Provisioning
    * Oracle Application Server Delegated Administration Services
    * Oracle Application Server Certificate Authority
    3. MiddleTier.
    * Oracle Application Server Portal
    * Oracle Application Server Wireless
    * Oracle Sensor Edge Server
    * Oracle Application Server Forms Services
    * Oracle Application Server Reports Services
    * Oracle Application Server Personalization
    * Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer
    You can also install other tools & services like :
    * Oracle Security Developer Tools
    * Oracle Application Server Guard
    * OracleAS Backup and Recovery Tool
    Thus, while installing, you need to install the Infrastructure ( which will contains the OID , SSO, etc. ), and the Middletier ( Portal, etc. ) later. The Portal MiddleTier depends on the Infrastructure.
    Oracle Portal allows you to collect disparate sources of information and applications and present it on a single page. A Portal is a Web site or service that offers a broad array of resources and services, such as email, forums, search engines, and on-line shopping malls. It's more like a "doorway" to the Internet or a portion of the Internet, targeted towards one particular subject.
    You can develop an application & post it on a Application Server - but, publishing it on Portal allows you to collect many such similar applications. Portal is usually used as a sinlg epoint of access for many similar / related kinds of applications.
    Good Luck !
    Regards,
    Sandeep

  • JDBC Thin driver and Oracle names server

    Hi
    Any managed to get the Thin driver to user the Names Server aliases, ie I want to connect to service xxx like
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@xxxx and not specify instance and port as the DB is running in a multiple machine cluster and can be switched to a different machine...
    With OCI driver I have managed on NT but having problem with OCI/Linux and Beta 10g...
    Tks
    Andre

    I don't have much experience with OCI from JDBC, but should work like any other kind of connection via SQL*Net. I.e. I would check if connection can be made using SQLPlus, check environment variables (ORACLE_HOME etc.) of 9iAS instance, check version of JDBC classes and their readme.txt. There are also some settings in sqlnet.ora file which might affect this (like default domain - try to use full name of alias - OCRL.WORLD or whatever alias you have there). You may also want to switch tracing for SQLNet and/or listener on (it's not easy to find in doc how to do it, though) to check if there is at least some traffic between klient and server...

  • Using tnsnames.ora file instead of oracle names server

    hi,
    sqlnet.ora file contains
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, ONAMES)
    NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN = (domain name)
    SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME = 2
    DEFAULT_SDU_SIZE = 8761

    (Host = oranamesrvr0.domain name)
    (Port = 1575)
    There is also a tnsnames.ora file in the same path as this sqlnet.ora. Can someone tell how can i make the application use the tnsnames.ora file instead of using oracle name servers??
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Thanks in advance!!!In addition to SB's comment, keep in mind that the client only sees sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora that exist on the client machine .. or indicated by TNS_ADMIN as defined on the client machine. Setting this on the db server is meaningless to the client unless the client also resides on the db server.

  • Oracle BI server in "Starting" mode

    Hi All,
    We have 3 env:
    1. Dev
    2. Stage
    3. Prod
    Whenever we restart the "Oracle Bi Server" service on any of the env, it goes into "Starting" mode.
    The size of rpd is around 22MB and size of default folder has size on disk approx 270MB.
    Does the size makes any difference or is there any other workaround for the same?

  • Oracle Express Server wont start after install

    Hi all,
    For my sins I have to support an Oracle Express Server and am trying to get the software installed on my Dell latitude d630 laptop, am running XP SP2. When I start the service it fails and writes this to the logs :-
    [AD4     ] 3 05/14/2008 09:11:47 Security Mgr - Logon(Default)User(OESguest) fails - error: 1326.
    [AD4     ] 3 05/14/2008 09:11:47 Security Mgr - GlobalConstructor)() failed.
    So looks like it can't login as OESguest. I checked the users and I cant find this user.
    Anyone had this problem ????
    Thanks in advance,
    Brandon

    When you install express it creates three users i.e. oesdba,oesinit and oesguest. if it doesnt exists then try to create manually and see if you are able to up the express.
    change the password for oesguest at operating system level and check.
    Thanks

  • Oracle Report Server 11g Start Automatically

    Dear All
    IF you want to start the report server in oracle forms 11g , you must go to this link :
    https://localhopst:Port No/reports/rwservlet/startserver
    I want to start the report server automatically as windows service without that step .
    Thanks in advanced

    The following can be used to start the managed server (i.e. WLS_REPORTS). Although this will not start the Reports inProc server, it will get the managed server started. A stand-alone rep server can be monitored by opmn and started automatically. See MyOracleSupport note 1126019.1
    Refer to the product documentation for more info about Windows Services and working with WLS Managed Servers.
    <blockquote>http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/e13708/winservice.htm</blockquote>
    Also be aware of the following MyOracleSupport note:
    <blockquote>1060058.1 - How to Install MS Windows Services For FMW 11g WebLogic Domain Admin and Managed Servers</blockquote>
    Finally, you can use this search:

    ORA-12637: Packet receive failed
    what can I do for this error.

    Ok let me back up.  When I go to run the report in Crystal against an Oracle Server connection - I get a popup that gives me 3 fields - Service, User ID, and Password.
    Where does Service go?  What property do I set to connect to my oracle database?  Server?  Servername?
    Because I'm setting all 3 here (PreQEServerName, Server, ServerName) to the service and its giving me the 'Error finding JNDI Name'.  Am I missing a property - should I be referring to a 'Service' property?

  • Oracle Name Server connect from Linux

    In our Company we have three Oracle Nameserver running and defined in the sqlnet.ora file.
    My Problem:
    when the first Server is not reachable, the Linux Client (8.1.5 or 8.1.7) does not try the second or last one (timed out forever).
    Under HP-UX or Windows Clients, everything worked as expected.
    Any Hints ???

    Oracle has been installed in Win server 2003 as server.
    i have Ubuntu 12.04 and i want to connect to OraDB server. For that you need the very same thing as you need on a Windows client - an Oracle client driver. The easiest to install (where install means unzipping and use) is Oracle's Instant Client.
    The very same install method (unzipping) applies to both Windows and Linux. Optionally, you can also create a tnsnames.ora file if you want to make use of aliases to lookup connection strings.
    in winXP i am using PL/SQL developer and i need any free and Open source software in ubuntu to connect to OraDB serve. is there any software?SQL*Plus is also available for Instant Client as an additional download. Always a good idea to have the definitive command line interface client to Oracle.
    SQL-Developer is also available from Oracle for free. Again, the installation instructions for Windows and Linux are basically identical. Download the base install if you have Java already installed. Or download the version that includes the Java run-time for running SQL-Developer.
    There's also a TOAD-like tool available for Linux and Windows called TOra. It supports Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Teradata databases.
