Oracle Navigator

Anybody have idea on how do I install Oracle navigator for Oracle personal edition 8.1.5?
I did a typical installation and navigator did not get installed. I restated installation; selected custom installation and I could not find Navigator in the list of installable items list?

Navigator was an Oracle7 utility, long time ago...... A kind of replacement is now Enterprise Manager, DBConsole or Grid Control.

Oracle 8.i Personal for Win2000 is missing Navigator

I downloaded the trial version of 8i for Win2000 and discovered the Oracle Navigator is missing. It is present in the Win 98 version. Where did it go? Documention says nothing about the navigator being desupported. The Navigator is the only PC Oracle tool that I use

I have not gotten around to even installing the Personal Edition on Win 2000 becuase the Oricale Navigator is not present. The Navigator is the ONLY tool we use on the PC.
No Navigator, no reason to install it.

How do I create a db in Oracle 9i Lite?

I have used Oracle 8i Lite on handheld computers in a replicated environment for quite some time now. I am in the middle of setting up a demo tablet computer, but since Oracle 8i Lite is no longer downloadable from the Oracle website, I instead downloaded 9iLite. When I went to install it, my options were Mobile Server and Mobile Development Kit. I went ahead and followed the install wizard without choosing either one of these two options, thinking I would just get the plain Oracle Lite database environment. After the install completed successfully, I went to look for Oracle Navigator and where the Polite.odb was located, but no where do these two items seem to be installed (or copied to).
Somewhere in this forum, a person posted that 9iLite needs 8iLite to be installed already in order to use the basic database functionality. Is this the case? Is there anyway to create a database using my create table script for all the tables in my db. I could see that SQL Plus is installed, which is the app I used to run the script in 8iLite.... but you already need a database to log into in order to run SQL Plus.
How do I create a database in Oracle 9iLite.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
PS: I am somewhat in a hurry, since my demo unit needs to be done by the end of the weekend..... I really did not anticipate this trouble with 9iLite.

Transfer of files from access to oracle

Oracle 8i Lite: TNS error (ORA-12203)

I Have Installed oracle 8i Lite for win 98/and palm operating system on a WIN 98 , pentium III machine. THE INSTALLATION IS SMOOTH. I am able to see the database and users through the Oracle Navigator. But when i try to connect through sql*plus i get
TNS-12203 TNS:unable to connect to destination error
1)How to find whether oracle services are runnong or not?
2)how to start listener on this 8i lite
3)I have also tried creating service name with bequath protocol
nothing works

Your oracle database and forms are installed on different oracle home so when you configurate your sql net that time you are configurating only your oracle database. So for form you must be having different oracle home. you cand change thid from start/oracle inatallation products/home selecter. so change our home and run the form. and if still having problem than check for tnsnames.ora file you must be having two files and both must be having right configuration.

Creating database on oracle lite v 4.0.0.2.0

I have created a new database and created a user through oracle navigator. When i m trying to logon to that user from Sql Plus , It gives me following error
oca-30017 error logging on to non-oracle database
It logs on to user "system" without any problem.

When i create the user via navigator, I don't have any option to change the previlages or roles.Properties of that user just show general. I granted ddl,admin permission through sql Plus still the result is same.

How to find GUI SQL*Plus command tool in Oracle 8i (version 8.1.7)

I had installed Oracel 8i Enterprise Edition (version 8.1.7) on my server machine (Windows NT 4.0), I'd like to use Oracle Navigator (GUI SQL*PLUS command tool), but I can not find it from the menu. I know Oracle Navigator is available in Oracle 7. Can anyone tell me where and how to use GUI SQL*PLUS command tool in Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition (version 8.1.7) ?

Oracle Navigator is part of Personal Oracle7 and Oracle Lite. I don't know is it available in 8i Personal Edition but I am sure that it is not part of Standard and Enterprise Edition.

Oracle 8i Lite import trouble

Hello,
Ok ill explain the problem first. I Exported whole DB from Oracle 8i, and now i have a file export.dmp. I want to import it to Oracle 8i Lite, but for now so success. I have a DB called test, defined in ODBC and created in Oracle Navigator. I can access that DB from Oracle Navigator, and i can access it trough SQL. I am trying to import that file to test DB with command like "imp80 system/manager@odbc:test file=export.dbp. Everytime i try to import i get same error saying : Table not found, View not found, ORACLE error, and Operating system error.
Can anyone give me some tips on how to import?

'imp80' is the import utility for Oracle 8.0.x database. If you
are using 8i Lite (Lite v4.0.x), there is a utility 'olload.exe'
in your %ORACLE_HOME%\bin, which allows to load a flat ASCII file
into a Lite table and unload (!!) a table into a flat ASCII file.

Perhaps you can explain to me how you get the SAMPLE application to work. I deleted the C$ALL_APPS file from my Palm and the OrdersODB file which it generates when you click the okDemo application on the Palm.

I created the database connection in Oracle8 Navigator and connected to it successfully with user name S11U1 and password MANAGER.
So, what's going on? I have my username/password correct don't I?
I get an error log on the Oracle Consolidator Log of:

Navigator Password

Hello,
I am trying to use the Oracle Navigator to create my publications and subscriptions. In the documentation for Oracle Lite V4.0.0.2 it says to log in as CONSOLIDATOR/MANAGER. This username and password does not work for me. Does anybody know of the correct name and password to use?
I've used ORACLERM/ORACLERM and that works but I'm sure if I should be using that.

try with user SYSTEM and any character as password (his password is requested but not checked until you assign a new password).

Oracle8i Navigator error - Nav81

I am using win98, and just install Oracle 8i PE for win98 version.
I have encouter an error name "Nav81", which say "NAV81 caused a stack fault in module KERNAL32.DLL at 016f:bff742a3." When ever I run the Oracle8i Navigator.
Can any one help me please.

I downloaded personal 8i onto my win2000 and I don't have the oracle navigator. How do I view and edit data in tables without the navigator? Do I have to download another piece of software after downloading 8i database or use whatever they gave me with the 8i package?

Oracle 8i Personal path statement

Hello,
I've installed Oracle 8i personal, and Oracle Navigator -- but now I can not start any of my databases. I think that Navigator overwrote my old autoexec.bat file and as such the old path statements are no longer there.
I can not find another autoexec.xxx file, so assume that a backup was not created.
Can someone tell me what the path statement should be in the autoexec.bat file?

Listener is used to allow remote clients to connect to your local database.
Remote client connections to a local database is not supported with Oracle Personal edition.

Oracle8 Navigator & iConnect Consolidator

I'm trying to configure iConnect Consolidator, but I don't have the ability to do that in Oracle8 Navigator. If I right-click Oracle Navigator and select properties/preferences the iConnect Consolidator option is grey and unclickable. The documentation suggests that I can create Consolidator clients and configure the server through Navigator. I downloaded the newest version 4.0.1 from oracle's site.

I figured this one out the hard way. The 'CONSOLIDATOR_HOME' and 'CONSOLIDATOR20' keys in the registry had to be copied from ORACLE section to HOME1 (Oracle Lite) section. Also note that if you get errors re/ MSHELP and NAV8 when uninstalling, copy these keys from the HOME1 section to the ORACLE section.

BLOB, BFILE problems

We have tried different methods to get these data types to work in a PO8 environment. If we use the Oracle Navigator we can store and read blob data. When we try the same using JDBC 2.0 driver we can not get even the insert to work correctly. Has anyone ever been successful in getting it work. The samples of codes in many books don't seem to have been tested either because they don't work either!
For example, using the BFILE option (example given by Steve Bobowski)gave us a FILEOPEN exception ORA error 22285 (No directory exists or cannot open file). The directory and the file does exist and the user has the required permissions!
Any help?

Given that you are posting here, I assume you are interested in using the OCI interface and that you are familiar with the basics of OCI programming. If not, you'll want to read the other chapters in the OCI Programmer's Guide.
