I am an OCP. I have completed my exams. But at times I feel too dumb. So OCP will not help you, unless you understand the concepts and have hands on experience. unless you live with oracle server. In fact, It may mislead yourself about your knowledge if you get an OCP from those brain dumps. (You may think yourself high, because you are an OCP. But in actual knowledge you will be very low).
To get an OCP from the brain dumps all you need is good memory power. That my 3 year old can do.
But that's not what being a DBA is.

Thanks.I am a little worried as to how you can take and pass the 1z0-007 without knowing the process or where to look for things.
The best answer you may have is that 1z0-007 was taken online and that the proctored exam is a little different, or maybe you were in some form of education institution and you didnt realise for they set you up.
If you visit the [www.oracle.com/education/certification] support/FAQs currently at
    [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=82#5Q1A] this should give details.
Quite frankly the process I go through is to go to the prometric website and go through as if I was going to book an exam but cancel out at the point when i had an idea of the availability of exams at close by prometric centers. Some close to me only operate a few days a month, others are available virtually 5 days a week. (All subject to availability).
I presume you have a prometeric ID ?

Taking Oracle university course is the best preparation method in my opinion. It is however not necessarily the cheapest.

Thanks for the url, i read the same completely. Although i appreciate this guy's honesty in expressing his views but unfortunately he does not talk much on especially which book he exactly referred. He did mention one of the technique which he used i.e. Flash cards creation
So appreciate if you or someone could guide me on the book for 1Z0-042 and 1Z0-043

LearnerI personally thought the statement in that post:
The various prep guides were a mixed bag. The Sybex one was reasonably good and was my main guide, with the Oracle as a supplement. Indicated he used the Sybex book as a main guide with the Oracle (Press) one as a supplement. Reasonably clear. The other interesting concept is to in fact use both. • ORACLE 10G- 1Z0-042 PRACTISE TESTS

    Hi All,
Does anyone know if pass-guarantee.com practise tests for Oracle 10g 1Z0-042 is a good preparation tool for the above exams?
If it is , why is Oracle not recommending them?
Surprisingly though I am told some of their questions appear verbatim on the real exams.
Why don't they accept any other method of payment other than Major Credit Cards?
Selftest software has still not yet released their OCA. That is why I am curious to find other good vendors.2005 is soon comming to an end.
    Thanks

I had a quick look at the site of pass-guarantee.com and I have to say that I'd rather throw my money into the sewer than spending one penny with them. What a lousy website. No matter how good there exams might be - if the storefront looks as bad as this I run, not walk, away.

  • 1z0-042 Exam

    Hi,
I was a Sybase DBA for almost 5 years and now trying to be more familiar with Oracle as well. I've already passed exam 1z0-007 but then thought of moving to 10g. Currently preparing for the 1z0-042 exam through e-learning. Can you please send me any material that well help pass the exam.
    E-mail: [email protected]
    Thanks and Regards

    Two comments:
    1) Self Test software, Sybex books and Oracle's documentation (http://docs.oracle.com with an alternate, but unofficial, index at http://tahiti.oracle.com) are very useful for studying for the exams.
    2) Passing the exams means you are certified. But it is still possible for OCPs to be deluded by common myths that have been dragging on for years (and are even in the courses and exams). To get the straight info, and to get a good handle on the differences between Sybase (the ancestor to SQL Server) and Oracle, I encourage reading Thomas Kyte's books, especially "Expert Oracle Database Architecture: 9i and 10g Programming Techniques and Solutions" http://apress.com/book/bookDisplay.html?bID=10008

  • OCA 10g 1Z0-042 exam; Topics in the book 'OCP All In One Exam Guide'

    Hello All
The book is divided into Part I (for 1Z0-042), and Part II (1Z0-043), however the Exam Topics doc on the website seems to cover more than is in Part I. E.g. Flashback is discussed in Chapter 29, a full seven Chapetrs into Part II!!
Can anyone offer definitive advice on the chapters to study, and also if this book covers all the topics? Is the Sybex book more accurately laid out in terms of topics?
Finally, I am considering buying the NetG tutorial disks, and the same question as above, do they cover all the material? I don't want to shell out £700 for nothing(!)
    Thanks all

I must have been have been at the horses head. This is a sort of cross reference.
This is one of the first exam I did. (It probably cross references from the books to the exam topics - actually it looks like it juest references between books!).
I worked from the Oracle Press book as master the attacked the Sybex.
I learnt my lesson. I now start off first with official authorative exam topics and build my notes framework from that.

  • 1Z0-042: Exam topics: Shared / dedicated servers

    Hi all
Not sure if you answer this type of specific question here, but what the h3ll....
The exam topics document states that you should be able to identify when to / when not to use shared servers. However the Sybex book goes into plenty of detail on the subject (inclduing a good one in the sample questions), and Oracle Press book has a much 'lighter' view of the subject.
With this in mind, it looks like the Exam only covers one tiny aspect of the subject (a good thing from my point of view!). Am I correct, or should I be sure I know the minutae of the CIRCUITS, SHARED_SERVER_SESSIONS parameters & DISPATCHER_RATE views etc.

btThe authorative point for exam topics for 1z0-042 is:
This was updated to reflected 10gR2 topics in november 2006. (The topics could even have been changed since, but i dont think so).
Methinks your books predate that. They could even have been prepared while the exam was in Beta.
In general IMHO the Sybex book is sometimes a little over the top in these things compared to the Oracle Press, but its all good stuff anyway and useful to know.

  • Just passed my OCA 1Z0-042

I've just passed my OCA !! Now the work really happens OCP next ..
Will a receive anything from Oracle ? Unique Oracle ID etc as I have done in the past with Microsoft exams ?

As stated on the Oracle Certification Program: Oracle Database 10g Administrator, once you have completed the OCA you receive a certificate saying you become OCA, but this doesn't happen right after you have finished your exam, at the site where you made the exam you only receive a pass/fail paper. Certificate should be arriving at the address you declared in your registration form within in eight weeks after the examination date, if this doesn't happen then you should address your request to the ocp program (contact information is displayed at the certification site).
You should be aware that for the OCP, there is a requirement for a hands-on course, and you must submit the hands-on course to receive the OCP certificate.

  • 10G exam 1z0-042 Cleared~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Hi
    10G 1Z0-042 CLEARED~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i have successfully cleared oracle 10G 1z0-042 exam.
    i got 92% marks 69/75.
one more to go for completing 10g ocp.
exam is very easy if u r fully prepared and have some real exp as a oracle dba(1-2 yr).
without exp this exam is difficult because its not like as 8i or 9i in which u read the oracle univ books and cleared the exam.
in 10g some question is not directly ask from oracle univ book.
i have 3 yr of exp and i study from 3 months for this exam
Oracle univ book is good for this exam.
if u r preparing from this book then u will get 40-45 question from it out of 85.
rest question need some more idea of oracle.coz these question need real exp.
    Thanks and Regards

  • 10g Admin OCA Path- 1Z0-042

    Hi all,
I am happy to tell you that I have cleared 1Z0-047 exam. Now I need to prepare for 1Z0-042, I have some queries regarding the same.
    1. For 1Z0-047 exam, I studied on my own and could manage to clear the examination (not to boast myself, since I am working, I dint find time to attend classes and also my friend had asked me to study on my own for this exam).
Can I also study for 1Z0-042 on my own and clear the exam or is it required to go for coaching?
    2. I am from Bangalore and here except at Oracle University, none of the training institutes will conduct classes in 10g ( I am not sure about this, if anyone knows any training institutes (other than Oracle university) who conduct classes in 10g Admin/1Z0-042 exam and fees being minimal, please reply with the address and phone number).
So can I still opt for Oracle 9i admin classes and write Oracle 10g admin exam?
    3. If I study on my own, is the prescribed book by Chip Dawes sufficient?
    Regards
    Praveen

    this seems good.

You can study for ANY Oracle exam on your own. (except perhaps OCM exams, if you get that far you should know what its about yourself).
However for some Certifications you may have to attend an authroized hands-on course from an authorized provided.
This does not affect you with regard to 1z0-042 for 10g DBA OCA; but DOES affect you if you go on for 10g DBA OCP.
    2. So can I still opt for Oracle 9i admin classes and write Oracle 10g admin exam?
The simple answer is No. This will not get you a 10g OCP certification (and it wont get you a 9g OCP certification).
If you take a 9i authorized WDP program you will need to take 1z0-031 for your 9i DBA OCA (you already have 1z0-047).
You can then take 1z0-032 and 1z0-033 for your 9i DBA OCP. (A properly AUTHORIZED WDP class from an authorized provider will count as hands-on).
As a 9i DBA OCP you can then take 1z0-040 to attain a 10g DBA OCP with no further hands on courses. (You could also have taken 1z0-042+1z0-043 as an alternative to 1z0-040).
However if you simply pass 1z0-042+1z0-043 and do not present a course from the 10g DBA OCP approved course list you will not receive a 10g DBA OCP certificate.
All the info you need can be had by drilling down from [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=151]
    3. If I study on my own, is the prescribed book by Chip Dawes sufficient?
The Dawes authors or part authors many books; I assume in this case you mean the sybex book wrt the 10g DBA OCA exam. This book is probably adequate for the exam, though you are advised also to seek other authorized certification-safe material and traiing and to become familiar with online documentation etc. Please rmember the topics have changed slightly since the book was written, the exam is now 10gR2 based; the book is 10gR1, though changes are not great.

Edited by: user11183889 on Oct 19, 2009 12:14 PMYou have two choices:
    1) Locate a suitable authorized WDP program provider, take the classes, and take the 9i DBA exams and to obtain a 9i DBA OCP then take further exam(s) to obtain a 10g DBA OCP.
    or
    2) Continue taking 1z0-042 and 1z0-043; but be very aware the 10g DBA OCP certification will not be obtained until you attend a hands on class. Please realise this can be expensive so locate courses that may before embarking. Remember that courses such as 10g Dataguard administation are 3 days courses and are cheaper. These are best attended at Oracle University. Also be aware 10g classes are being gradually replaced by 11g classes; so 10g classes may become rarer.
(Please be aware there appear to have been some examples of the WDP programme being delivered badly. You are recommended to try to contact previous students to confirm the course is delivered well by the institute you choose).
Please be aware at a WDP you a limited to a maximum of 6 hours tution a week MAXIMUM.

  • Can i take 1z0-042 (10g admin 1)  after 1z0-007 Oracle 9i

    Hello ! I have a query about Oracle Certification 10g admin 1 (1z0-042).
    I have passed 1z0-007 Oracle SQL 9i in december 28 , 2012.
Now i have decided to complete OCP DBA track in Oracle 10g.
    My Questions are,
    1. should i need to upgrade?
    2. Does1z0-042 complet my OCA ?
    3. Will I have a choice to complete OCP by taking 1z0-043 ?
    according to this link
Oracle Exam 1Z0-007 Is Being Retired: What Does That Mean to Me?
    it's clear that i can take 1z0-042 exam having previous passed1z0-007 (SQL 9i) .
I am just asking this for my complete satisfaction before i am preparing for next exam.
    thanks...

    1. should i need to upgrade?
    2. Does1z0-042 complet my OCA ?
    3. Will I have a choice to complete OCP by taking 1z0-043 ?
I'm going to answer these out of order:
    2. Yes. Passing 1Z0-042 would make you an Oracle Database 10g Administrator Certified Associate.
    3. Once you have the 10g OCA, if you pass 1Z0-043 and complete the required hands-on training, you would become an Oracle Database 10g Administrator Certified Professional.
    1.  Once you are at step three (i.e. a 10g OCP), you can upgrade to 11g... and soon to 12c. This is good from a career standpoint, but I would not go to the extreme of saying you need to.  If it comes to that, you don't need to become certified at all. Certification can help in your career as an Oracle DBA, but it is not a requirement.
