Oracle OCP

Here’s the scoop. I am pursing an Oracle 9i OCP certification, though I have not taken the tests yet for OCA. I am planning on taking the SQL (007) test this weekend on the Internet. I have the Sybex book to study with for this course. Well I skimmed through the book in a day, really only reading the differences from 81 to 9i. I took the practice test that came with the book last night, it gave me well over an hour to take the test and after I took it I still had over an hour left to review the test. I didn’t review the test and went straight to grading, I only got a little over 60% correct. After reviewing the incorrect answers, I already knew almost all of the correct answers but since I was under a time constraint, I zoomed thru the test to insure I finished in time. Of the questions I missed, most were tricky, which lead me to select the incorrect answer (now I know better). So I have the following questions:
1)     Is the real test just as tricky as the practice test?
2)     Are the questions on the practice test very similar to the real test?
Secondly, I saw something on the Oracle site that stated to achieve the OCP certification, the applicant must have at least one Oracle training course. Question is that I have had several Oracle training courses in the past, do these count? If not, no problem because I am attending the Replication course at the end of next month. But for this course to count, do I have to have all the OCP exams passed prior to taking the course?

355099 OK, none of the courses I have taken were for 9i, only for 8i and 7. So I see I need to take the approved 9i courses. No problem, because I am planning to take the replication course at the end of next month, it is listed as one of the approved 91 DBA courses.
By tricky, yes of course only one answer is correct. Though they make it look like at first glance that several answers are correct. After looking closely, you may notice the comma missing. Yes defiantly we should be able to identify the syntax errors, but from experience Oracle does an okay job identifying those kinds of errors at compile time (but not dynamic SQL). Of which are easily fixed.
Similar: I meant similar, like comparable. Like are they as tricky as the practice test? I don’t mean they are difficult.
404045 I don’t think the course needs to be taken after you have completed the OCA certification, reason being is that the Oracle courses that count towards the DBA include many different courses of which SQL and Fundamentals I courses are listed.
All in all, I have about 15 years experience with Oracle DBA tasks. I use Multimaster Replication (asynchronous propagation) extensively, and am very failure with SQL and PRO*C. Thanks for your input guys/gals.

  • Oracle OCP Hands on course discount for OPN member ?

    Hi guys,
I work for a company in Australia that is a Oracle Advantage Partner (highest level).
I have completed the OCA but I understand the OCP requires a instructor led training courses. Seems like the price of these courses is $3000-$5000 AUD.
Is there any discount for a certified Oracle Advantage Partner company ?
    Thanks

For sure in courses there will be no discounts for oracle advantage partner companies that too for an individual attending the training in public batch. But if you company want to arrange a private training through Oracle University then they may give discount but your company should arrange minimum 6 candidates to attend the training.
But you can get benifited with one new features...If you attend any Oracle 10g DBA Workshop I or Oracle 10g DBA Workshop II training through oracle university then they are providing a free exam voucher for the exam. So maximum that you can save is the exam money. For more details on discount vouchers check education.oracle.com

    Few ways....
    1. Upgrade to 9i and then to 10g. (Two exams)
    2. Uprade directly to 10g. (One exam)
    3. Take 10g course OCA and OCP and write two the exams for 10g certification.
To exam no.s like IZ0-xxx ceck at www.oracle.com.
Best is to practice things on test database and for dumps there are many sites but I like selftest software (www.selftestsoftware.com)

  • Oracle ocp exams guide ?

i am learning on purhcasing hotcerts.com $85 package for my ocp exams . anyone knows how good are ocp exams of hotcerts ? . please do let me know.

According above line selftestsoftware is better than testking. in my experience.I have had come across many comments that selftestsoftware gives you more accademic question, and and below 10% question may come in the exam. Whereas, testking, gives around 90% of guarantee.

    Dear All,
I just finished and paased the OCA in 10gR2 database administration.
Can some body recommend me a good recommended book for me to start the OCP study. I do not need the Orcale pdf's links as i am now using those, need a good text book to read.

The best material you can have for the certification I think is here:

I used it for my certification. The pdf is not the key, but the questions you have with.

    Hello Acton
Which Metalink you are talking about ?
    well try this one

or i suppose you want details for the
reply of Schneider no, because 9i support will probably stops 01-JUL-2007

Being good in Excel probably won't help much in the Oracle database domain IMO . How did you come to the decision that you want to do an OCP (DBA?) ? If that's taken because someone said that DBA job is a very cool job , well, than you should give a serious reconsideration because choosing something just because someone else is saying is good probably won't be something that you would be able to pull for a long duration. Anyways, the best bet would be to attend a SQL course and see if you do understand it and using it, how well you interact with the database. My suggestion would be to do the SQL course and then opt for the Financial application courses from Oracle which probably would suit better for your profile than opting for OCP/OCA. The choice , of course remains with you. Have a read of the Concepts guide at http://tahiti.oracle.com as well.

    Hy all,
during installation Oracle client on Linux (suse 8.1)
i get the following error message (linking the ins_plsql.mk):
    /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-suse-linux/3.2/../../../../i486-suse-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lclntsh
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
    Who can help?

I had this problem before, the soultion was to do either of the following option then after finsihin press on retry and i hope it will work.
(The soultion i got from an Oracle OCP, so thinks to him)
Solutions for the relinking problem seen with Oracle 9.0.1 on Red Hat 7.1.
Option 1: (remove "-z defs" from genclntsh file) (Workaround)
    1. When you get errors from OUI installer, open a window, and cd to the Oracle Home installation target location
    2. Set Oracle environment ORACLE_HOME to this target directory.
    3. Use editor to modify $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh file, to remove -z defs from it.
    4. Then run this script $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh to create Oracle libraries.
    5. Go back to OUI error window, and click on retry bottom to continue.
    Option 2: (update the binutils)
You have to follow these steps to solve the re-linking problem:
    1. Update the binutils-2.10.91.0.2-3 to binutils-2.10.91.0.4-1
    2. You can get the binutils patch at the following URL:
    http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/kernel.org/pub/linux/devel/binutils/binutils-2.10.91.0.4-1.i386.rpm
    3. Relink Oracle binaries.

  • Can we package tables in Oracle 10g?

    Hi,
We can package functions & procedures in Oracle and it helps us a lot to categorize the functions & procedures. I need to know whether we can package database tables and categorize them according to the modules of our applications.
    Eg:
    package imports:
    - table_import_outstandings
    - table_import_overdue
    - table_import_bills
    package exports:
    - table_export_outstandings
    - table_export_overdue
    - table_export_bills

    Hi,
I have created the schema and I am looking for a way to package tables within the schemaMight you can get with the features of Type Creation which can act some subsidary to groupings and included as column in tables (Did does not work out). AFAIK, we can't package the tables.

  • Oracle 9i Hands-On Course Requirement

    Hello all,
I have finished all 4 exams for Oracle 91 OCP DBA certification and I need to take the Oracle 9i Hands-On Course Requirement. From what I understand from oracle website you have to attend a class from a list of approved courses at oracle university or oracle authorized center or an oracle partner and then
    1) the institute where you attended the course sends information about your attendance to Oracle. And oracle in turn verifies attendance.
    2) How long does it take for Oracle to verify that I attended that course if not taken at OU and
    3) How long does it take for Oracle to send me the final OCP certificate?
    4) Oracle website also mentions that a candidate needs to submit a form online and take a test at the prometric website.
    5) Is there a cost effective way of taking this course?
I am trying to locate centers in US within New York City that offer the Oracle OCP Hands-On Course Requirement for Oracle 9i certification OCP DBA. I am specifically looking for an Oracle authorized center or partner in NY (as a cheaper option). I have been looking for hours on the oracle website and I am unable to find any specific information. I can only see oracle university locations or oracle partners who do not provide training
for individuals. At this point I am quite frustrated and I would really appreciate any help.
I want to quickly take the course and get my OCP certificate. Since I am planning to visit India, I thought of taking the course there as it would be lot cheaper ($200 Vs $750 for an online course in US). I talked to an institute in India and they tell me that I need to enroll for a course and then on completion they willvsend oracle all my details. There are no exams for the course. It will take a month for them to receive the certificate for the course and then I can apply for the OCP certificate to Oracle. (So are we talking about 2 months here for the certificate?)
However when I spoke to a customer care rep at oracle uni, they gave me a complete different picture. They tell me that I need to enroll in a class which might be a max of 5 days and then I can get my OCP certificate within a week. I also need to give an exam for the course
    that I take.
I am confused and I am unable to find any oracle authorized centers or partners in US in New York so I can call and confirm. If you have any information regarding this with the correct sequence, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance!
    Purvi.

    Hello Neil and 355099,
Both your links are helpful and i was able to find the centers. I had earlier looked at the courses and schedules and assumed that the same offered by and Oracle partner or authorized center might be less money. Anyways in case some one wants to take the course outside US here's the link - http://www.oracle.com/education/partners/partners.html#5
    Thanks again,
    Purvi.

I see you are specifically talking about 10g DBA OCP.
The key points are that exams/prequisites may be taken in any order however a certificate can only be awarded when all pre-requisites are met.
The strict answer to this is no (OCA and OCP may be acheived at the same time if an exam which is a compoent of 10g OCA is taken last).
For an example let us take Chris:
    - In January Chris passes 1z0-043
    - In Febrary attends an approved hands on course, submits it for approval with respect of 10g DBA OCP and Chris's hands on course is confimred verified on OCP Database/Certview a couple of weeks later.
    - In March Chris passes 1z0-042
    - On the morning of April 1st Chris passes 1z0-047
--->--- Chris's success gets transmitted from Peason VUE to the Oracle OCP database and processes occur on the OCP Database.
    - Chris checks Certview arround April 14 and (hopefully) discovers shortly awarded the following backdated to April 1.
    (1) 10G DBA OCP
    (2) 10G DBA OCA
    (3) SQL OCE

  • OCP Exam documentation

    Dear all,
I'm not sure whether this question is supposed to be published here. Please correct me if I am wrong in this question. I was reading the Oracle OCP SQL exam guide, when I faced a wrong "question" and surprisingly an "answer".
    Page 139 question number
6: You develop the following SQL statement containing a group expression. Which line in the following select statement, when removed from the statement will correct the error:
    SELECT DEPTNO, AVG(SAL) FROM EMP GROUP BY EMPNO;
    A.select deptno, avg(sal).
    B.from EMP.
    C. group by EMPNO
    D. There are no errors in this statement, therfore no clauses should be removed.
What is intersting in this question is that the answer is explained descriptive.
(according to ORacle 9 SQL exam Guide the correct answer is C!
    Do you think it's right?
First of all can some one tell me what the correct answer is? Since I'm preparing myself for the OCP exam I would want to share this with you guys. Or if someone would know where is the best place to publish things that concerning exam doc mistakes?
    Thanks

this question is not valid. just forget it...
The line which generates the error is the line A.
