  • Oracle + php take long time

hello partners, in this last days i've been developing an application in php + oracle 10g like database engine. i'm using oci8 extension, it's been a headache for me because a simple database request take a long time, for example:
    SELECT e.SECUENCIA , e.fecha, a.descripcion,k.DESCRIPCION ,d.cantidad, d.precio FROM enc_venta_caf@ch e,det_venta_caf@ch d,articulos_caf@ch a, DEPENDENCIAS@ch k WHERE e.id_dependencia = d.id_dependencia(+) AND e.secuencia = d.secuencia and e.tipo_nomina='2' AND e.tipo_venta = 2 AND a.id_dependencia(+) = d.id_dependencia AND a.articulo(+) = d.articulo and e.STATUS is null and e.FICHA ='7230' and e.CONT_NOMINA >='2' and e.ano='2008' AND k.id_dependencia = a.id_dependencia
it take a long time and sometime just a time out warning display.
months ago, i worked with php + pdo_oci+ oracle 10g and i got the same result, a simple database
query take a long time, for example:SELECT * FROM cel_nivel1 ORDER BY nivel1 ASC , it take more than 20 seconds and the table just have 24 rows.
i'll be so happy if somebody can help me.
    thanks for your atention,
    peace !!!!

  • Growing Oracle DB taking long time to backup!

    Dear Experts,
Our Database (BI) has grown upto 900 GB in nearly one year. Given that time frame, weekly offline backup inreased since the database is growing.
I was reading few posts and some search and came to know that the backup should not take that long. My backup is running over 12 hours. As per few blogs, article, and search, backup speed can be 4TB per hour. In my case, this is not the case.
I'm backing up locally in the file system with a different NFS mount.
What would be the best approach to take to reduce the number of hours is currently taking? I'm compressing the backup. Should I spilit the backups? Is it even possible? If yes, would it help in my case? Should I not compress it?
    Your help is really appreciated!
    Thanks,

What type of tuning or what knid of steps can I take to enhance the speed in SAN storage?
I really cannot help you there, if you feel the performance is not good enough then talk to your SAN/network admins.
[Parallel Backup|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/88/a2a041a5d4af4db168992639d65d3b/frameset.htm] and [Split Mirror Backup|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/68/b72d86db13c642bb6e17b83b75f598/frameset.htm] are not the same.
By the way looking up the link to the documentation i stumbled on [Backup of Large Oracle Databases|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/b5/a25ac61a115d47b072dc79b299bc13/frameset.htm]. However most of the content has already been discussed here. So maybe you stick to the advice from Markus to try rman first. I was not to add more confusion. I just wanted to add, that there are ways to improve backup speed if your database grows larger.

  • Taking snapshot of oracle tables to sql server using transactional replication is taking a long time

    Hi All,
I am trying to replicate around 200 oracle tables onto sql server using transaction replication and it taking a long time i.e the initial snapshot is taking more than 24 hrs and it still going on.
Is there any way to replicate those these tables faster?
    Kindly help me out..
    Thanks

    Hi,
According to the description, I know the replication is working fine. But it is very slow.
    1. Check the CPU usage on Oracle publisher and SQL Server. This issue may due to slow client processing (Oracle performance) or Network performance issues.
    2. Based on SQL Server 2008 Books Online ‘Performance Tuning for Oracle Publishers’ (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms151179(SQL.100).aspx). You can enable the transaction
job set and follow the instructions based on
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms147884(v=sql.100).aspx.
    2. You can enable replication agent logging to check the replication behavior. You may follow these steps to collect them:
To enable Distribution Agent verbose logging. Please follow these steps:
    a. Open SQL Server Agent on the distribution server.
    b. Under Jobs folder, find out the Distribution Agent.
    c. Right click the job and choose Properties.
    d. Select Steps tap, it should be like this:
    e. Click Run agent and click Edit button, add following scripts by the end of scripts in the command box:
            -Output C:\Temp\OUTPUTFILE.txt -Outputverboselevel 2
    f. Exit the dialogs

  • Why oracle text index column taking long  time

why oracle text index column is taking long time to return result.I created text index on a column if I run the query on a single table result is very fast.If I join table with other table (10 records only )
it is taking long time but in explain plan it is searching by index only.
I created this index for searching a varchar2 column, the data is comma seperated values like ( UK,US,IT,BR) and the table having records 20 lakhs.Normally if I query with like operater
( like '%US%' ) it is taking full table scan because I am using '%' both sides. Please help me on this regard how to search the data with less time. Here is may sample code and explain plan.

You have not formatted your code properly so we cannot see the query you're executing. Please put some line breaks in.
Secondly, how fresh are the statistics on those tables? Are you really returning one record out of twenty million?

  • Oracle transaction runs a long time

    Hi,
we work with transactions(Oracle 8.1.7). User A performs long-time action and he changes the records in database by starting transaction. When user B wants to change the record, which was already changed by user A, it occurs following: user B can see only a hourglass (which means that he cannot do anything), until user A stops modifying record or has to wait for roughly 10 minutes. After that time the report is displayed, which informs user B, that the record is occupied by another user. We need reduce that time from 10 minutes to 30 seconds. Is that possible?

I am not  making this up:
I have used LR every day since the new version came out and have sat through long splashscreen startups each time.
Now, I just opened it to turn off the spashscreen to answer your question about performance and before I did that, it behaved "normally."  That is, as it was with previous versions.
Let me see how it fires up tomorrow after a machine shutdown, etc.
    Thanks.
And, if you fixed it with karma, thanks even more!!

I am unable login through sqlplus on my remote database server from clients . Where as i am able connect locally on the server. When connecting locally, the OCI client driver starts up the dedicated Oracle server process to service that session (which is why +$ORACLE_HOME+ needs to be set so that the driver can find the oracle executable and why +$ORACLE_SID+ needs to be set so that executable know which instance's SGA to attach to).
When connect via TCP, the Listener accepts the connection. If it is a dedicated server request, the Listener does this part - creates a dedicated Oracle server process.
It is this part that is failing according to the details you have supplied.
First off - a work around if this is an urgent problem that needs to be resolved (and potentially also the solution for your underlying problem) - configure Oracle Shared Server and have the OLTP clients connect to shared servers.
some times i am able to connect from clients(after 5 Mins). After that the session is working fine. This sounds like a problem with dedicated Oracle server process taking an extraordinary long time to start up. This will usually be an o/s related problem, as it is the kernel's task to allocate resources and memory, load that executable from disk, initialise it, etc.
The response of tnsping goes to 20000 msecs. This is something different - it means that the Listener is slow to accept() (a socket call) an incoming connection request. Likely this is caused by the Listener waiting on a dedicated server processes to start, or insufficient server resources to accept and process the incoming (tnsping) connection.
I have read some where that log files has reached 2GB. but in my case its not.I would expect to see some kind of server problem. Number of processes allowed per o/s user being exceeded. Lots of swapping between the swap disks and memory. Perhaps loads of connection attempts, packet drops and so on at IP stack level.
TNS-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
    TNS-12547: TNS:lost contact
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
    TNS-00517: Lost contact
Linux Error: 32: Broken pipeThis means that the Listener attempted to start an Oracle server executable, but the the executable did not respond to the Listener (inter process communication likely needs to happen). Thus the Listener could not hand over the client connection to the server process.
There are a couple of reasons why this can fail.. most of them I would think are o/s and resource related. (assuming that your listener.log is configured correctly)
I suggest checking the server and ensuring that it is capable of handling the current processing and memory loads on it. Also double check your listener.ora file to ensure that the broken pipes (lost communication) is not caused by errant parameter settings.

We use OEM Grid control to monitor many dev/tst/prd databases. OEM is taking a long time to load the tablespace page information on one of our RAC databases (only one all other dbs ok). It worked perfectly !
It used to take 4 minutes to view my tablespaces in OEM !!! Now I have sub second response time !
Still find it strange that the size of the recyclebin would have such an effect when viewing tablespace info in OEM. By the way it also sped up the viewing of datafiles in OEM.

  • Oracle resultset.last() will cost long time while the resultset is large

we want to get the count of returned resultset rows through used last() & getRowNum() of oracle resultset . But this way the oracle driver will cache all rows in memory of our local machine and cost long time . we thought the resultset maybe cost many time on network.
can i set any preferences, make rs.last don't transfer by network and the last() method only work in DB server.
    how to solve the problem.
    thanks so much~!

No. The way Oracle cursors work, the only way to find out how many rows are in a ResultSet is to fetch each row. Since cursors are read-only structures, the driver has to cache the result if it is going to allow you to retrieve the data without re-executing the query. Increasing your fetch size may decrease the amount of time required to fetch all the rows, but you'll still have to go through all that effort.
One alternative would be to add a COUNT(*) (or more generically COUNT(*) OVER ()) to the query and use that value (which will be repeated for every row in the result) to determine how many rows are being returned.
