Oracle on DHCP enabled servers

Hello:
I installed Oracle on my home machine which is DHCP enabled.
The installation said that I have to add Microsoft Loopback adapter. I did it and the installation was successful.
But when I rebooted by machine, I could no longer connect to the internet. When I deleted the loopback adapter, I could. But Oracle DB Console does not get started.
When I added the loopback adapter, it started again but I lost my internet connection!
Can somebody shed light on how I can solve the problem?

You don't install dhcp. It is a method whereby a computer gets its IP address assigned by some other device on the the network. And said IP address is not guaranteed to be the same every time the computer starts. That is why Oracle (actually any sever process) does not like to run on dhcp assigned addresses. Trying to reach said server from a client process would be like hitting a moving target. That is why the installation instruction for oracle (you did actually read them, right?) instruct you to install the loopback adapter if you are running your pc under dhcp. This will give your pc a second, fixed, network address that is accessable only by other processes running on the same machine.

"Oracle Content Database" is a different animal than the "Oracle Database"
There is a section Installing Oracle Database on DHCP Computers in the Oracle Database Installation Guide for Windows.

Data Servers Enabled Servers not visible

Hi,
We seem to be having a problem with xMII at the moment. Enabled servers within Data Servers are not visible. The windows is completely blank. After unchecking Show Only Enabled Server we get the following error as below and no connectors are visible. The version of xMII being used is 11.5. Any pointers on how to solve this.

Give these URL's a try:

They should essentially give you the list of active and disabled data servers (much like the jsp page is trying to do)
It is possible you managed to get an invalid name in the system and that's causing the error.
You could also look carefully into the Server.xml file in the Conf directory.
A ServletExec restart will also cause the system to re-read the file and log out trace information about the data server in the cms.log file (you'll see Loading Servers... and then you should see them one at a time).

Can I use Time Capsule to share a public ip within a network with DHCP enabled?

Hi I have a router with 8 public ip's which is doing DHCP for the public ip's I own. What I am trying to do is to give a static public IP to my Time Capsule and then the time capsule should create another network (both wired and wireless) with private IP (eg. 192.168.1.xxx) and do DHCP to the connected to time capsule devices.
I tried to select the option SHARE A PUBLIC IP but it is not working.

I am assuming that the static IP address that you are attempting to assign the WAN-side of the Time Capsule is one of the eight Public IP addresses available to you ... correct?
If so, then you should be able to configure the TC's WAN port for either: 1) Use the "Using DHCP" option to grab one of these Public IP addresses from the upstream router's DHCP server, or 2) Use the "Manually" option, and then, enter the appropriate IP addresses in their appropriate fields.
With the Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address selected, the TC's NAT & DHCP services will be enabled and they should be able to provide a Private LAN behind it.
Are either or neither the TC's WAN or LAN sides working properly?

Oracle repositories for two servers-Production and Development

Hi,
We have two new servers- One production and other Development. We need a place to maintain an Essbase shared services repository in data center for these two servers.
My question is can we have both Oracle repositories in the same environment? If yes do we need to name them differently...I don't have much insight on the same. Please help me out!

Does this mean we can have oracle instances available for DEV and PROD on same machine, the only thing that will be differ is their Schema?
If we are having the same oracle instances in the same machine then we can oracle repositories set for both dev and prod in the same Oracle instance.
If we are having oracle instances in different machine then we can have oracle repositories setted up in respective oracle instance.
Please let me know if i have understood your answer completely?

Oracle Text Search Enabling, Content Server does not start

We are trying to enable Oracle Text Search in UCM 11g that uses 11g Database. We followed instructions to add parameter 'SearchIndexEngine=OracleTextSearach' to config.cfg and restart content server. Content server doesn't come back up with the following error showing up:

Can you let us know the config.cfg entry in your Environment for SearchIndexerEngineName.
Is it SearchIndexerEngineName= DATABASE.ORACLETEXTSEARCH ? It should be as below

How to enable servers and services?

Currently when i go to the personalization screen of my publications i get the following msg:

Oracle VM x86, enable audio to guests

Hi, we have one x86 server Sun Fire X4170 M2 and Oracle VM Server 2.2.1 installed in it.
We want to enable audio in a guest hosted by this server.
We saw that the qemu command
*/usr/lib/xen/bin/qemu-dm -help*
doesn't show the option
soundhw
If we are right, this is the option needed for enabling audio in guests
(from /etc/xen/xmexample.hvm)
# enable sound card support, [sb16|es1370|all|..,..], default none
#soundhw='sb16'
When we change the guest's .vm file adding the soundhw option and create the domain, we receive error messages

Additionally we tested all the possible values for soundhw (ich6, ac97, es1370, sb16, pcspk), but (as we expected) none worked.
Has somebody enabled audio for guests in a similar scenario?

You may have more luck using PCI passthru to actually pass the entire sound device into the guest as a PCI device and let the guest OS handle it completely.

Installing Oracle 11i in mutiple servers

If you install Oracle 11i in two separate servers (for fault tolerance as example). What is the best way to :
1- Get duplicated database in each server if needed?
2- Consolidate the data between the two databases?

Enabling Servers in BOX 3.1

After Installing BOX 3.1 and migrating CMS I cannot enable the servers. All the servers are running but cannot enable.

SAP WAS 6.40 installation on a DHCP enables machine

Hi ,
I understand that any SAP installation based on WAS 6.40 requires the machine to have a static/fixed ip and not an ip which changes dynamically whenever the machines comes on the network , which is usually the case when the machine has DHCP network . Now, if I am correct, please tell me if there is a work around .
I know that Microsoft Loopback Adapter can be installed but in that case I would loose my original network and would not be able to access the LAN . MS Loopback adapter is considered to be an option usually when there is no network available .
Basically the question how to install WAS 6.40 on a machine which does not have a fixed ip and runs on DHCP ?

I don´t have such "document".
Configuring is not a "step-by-step" thing, if you don´t understand what´s going on behind the scene, it may or may not work.
You need to make the machine a member of your Active Directory domain, then the system will automatically sent its hostname to the Active Directory DNS server if the DNS server is configured to accept those entries.
I suggest you contact your AD administrator and let him configure the machine so that it will work.

Having passwords in plain text is not bad as long as the file having the passwords is properly protected by file system permissions.
