Oracle on Liniux Alpha - When ?

Dear Linux and Oracle Afficionados
When you whant to get an Oracle job done an Alpha seems the
only proper way to go. With the new processor comming out in
jan 1999 at something like 8000$ for at cpu+MP doing 30 specint
an Oracle Linux Alpha port is very interesting.

PS: This is the question: Oracle on Liniux Alpha - When ?
null

We are looking at installing an Extreme Linux cluster using
hardware from AltaTechnologies (http://www.altatech.com) and
would very much like a version of Oracle for Linux Alpha.
We are looking at purchasing a solution in the next month.
Has anyone tested Oracle for Digital Unix on Linux Alpha? This
may very well work.
Does Oracle take advantage of 64 bit filesystems on any platform?
Would it be possible to use Oracle for x86 Linux under Digitals
(should I say Compaq's?) fx!32? I thought it was available for
Linux as well?

  • Oracle doesn't started when When I reboot the Server.

    Dear All,
    I have installed 10g using ASM and Oracle-managed files on a Windows Server 2003 (Second Edition , Service Pack 1 ) system . I have put no data in, and I take the defaults. It works fine - until the system reboots.

    It look like your ASM instance is not yet started. Try the following:
    $>export ORACLE_SID=+ASM (set ORACLE_SID=+ASM if you are on Windows)
    $>sqlplus /nolog
    SQL>startupThen you start up your other instance.

  • Oracle error ORA-604 when opening a connection

    I am facing an issue with my WCF service which is using ODP.NET version 4.112.2.0(x64) and Oracle 11g.
    The service runs without any problems on the test servers but on production server (Windows 2008 R2) when an attempt is made to call any service method it fails with the following Oracle error code Ora-604. the message is
    ORA-604: error occurred at recursive SQL level %s
    The exception is thrown when a call to meethod Open is made to open a connection.
    There is no inner exception. So far I have tried checking the connection string, the user permissions and setting the TNS_ADMIN environment variable but nothing has worked.
    Another thing to mention is that another WCF service which uses some of the same stored procedure I am using is working fine on the same server.
    Has anyone seen this before?

  • Error in Oracle BI EE Analytics when running a direct database request

    This is in the Oracle Answers portion of the Analytics tool. When a query is entered into the Direct Database Query text box and the "Validate SQL and Retrieve Columns" button is clicked, the columns are indeed returned (which would seem to indicate that the connection pool settings are correct etc.), but when I click on the results tab it throws an error:
    View Display Error
    Error generating view. You don't currently have the necessary privileges to execute Direct Database Requests.
    Error Details
    Error Codes: OAMP2OPY:Q4NU7XSN
    Invalid Handle Of 'class saw::NQWebView *' Exception
    I am at a loss trying to figure this error out - clearly it is connected to the DB since it can see column names, and I was able to use the Administration tool to create a repository which Analytics can use, so why can't I directly query my database? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    It sounds like the setting has not been set to allow you to execute a direct database query.
    You can do this by logging into the Presentation services as the Administrator user. Clicking on the Settings tab and then selecting the Administration option. On the Oracle BI Presentation Services Administration window select the Manage Privileges option. This brings up the Privileges Administration window, scroll down to the Answers section (listed on the left) and check the Execute Direct Database Requests privilege setting this is defaulted to let no one execute Direct SQL request. Reset the privileges such that the group that the user trying to execute the direct database request belongs to is set to be able to execute the direct database requests. This should alleviate the error that you are getting.
    I hope that this helps.

    Actually, having looked at Metalink, seems that although this message may be accurate and correct,
    it has been 'introduced' as part of the 9i JDBC driver.
    So, I used the 8i JDBC driver I happened to have instead and that worked fine.

  • Bug in Oracle JDBC Driver: NullPointerException when calling clearParameters

    There is a bug in the latest version of the JDBC driver that throws a NPE when calling PreparedStatement.clearParameters(). I don't need a response to this, since I have a workaround (just catching and ignoring the exception), but it should probably be fixed. I speculate that the problem only occurs when you try to call clearParameters() more than once on the same PS, but I haven't confirmed it.

    Take a look at the method that is causing the NullPointerException:
    public void clearItem(int i)
    if (!m_dynamic && m_vector == null && i < m_vector.size())
    m_vector.removeElementAt(i);
    if (m_items != null && i >= m_items.length)
    return;
    m_items[i] = null;
    return;
    A NullPointerException will be thrown whenever clearParameters() is called when no parameters have yet been bound.
    The first IF statement should read:
    if (!m_dynamic && m_vector != null && i < m_vector.size())
    A simple workaround would be to make sure that your parameter list is never empty before calling clearParameters(). Is there a patch for this anywhere?

  • Oracle internal error 00600 when using Blobs

    We are having problems writing rows to tables that include a Blob column. Oracle version is 10g. Table schema looks like this:
    CREATE TABLE xyResetRewind ( ResetRewind  NUMBER(38)  NOT NULL, RowDate      DATE        NOT NULL, ForRowDate  DATE        NOT NULL, DataClass    VARCHAR2(3)  NOT NULL, DataType    VARCHAR2(2)  NOT NULL, DataKeyVal  BLOB        NOT NULL, RRStatus    VARCHAR2(3)  NOT NULL, CreationDate TIMESTAMP    NOT NULL, LastUpdated  TIMESTAMP    NOT NULL, User_        VARCHAR2(16) NOT NULL )
    and the SQL used to write it looks like this:
    MERGE INTO xyResetRewind USING DUAL ON (ResetRewind = ?) WHEN MATCHED THEN UPDATE SET RowDate      = ?, ForRowDate  = ?, DataClass    = ?, DataType    = ?, DataKeyVal  = ?, RRStatus    = ?, CreationDate = ?, LastUpdated  = ?, User_        = ? WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN INSERT ( ResetRewind, RowDate, ForRowDate, DataClass, DataType, DataKeyVal, RRStatus, CreationDate, LastUpdated, User_ ) VALUES ( ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ? )
    The driver recommended by Oracle for 10g is version 10.2.0.4.0 Feb 2 2008. We have also tried 11.2.0.7.0 28 Aug 2008 (the 11g drivers) with no luck. We use either PreparedStatement.setBytes() or setObject passing the byte array for the BLOB content.
    We then get this error:

    Our jdbc code uses only interface methods defined in Java, so no oracle-specific stuff is used or allowed.
    There seems to be very little on the internet about this problem, the only things I could find being these:

    We haven't interfaced with Oracle for a number of years (we don't get this problem with mysql) so just for fun we tried an old version of the jdbc driver: version 9.0.2.0.0 from 6 April 2004, hmmm. Anyway, that works, but obviously this is not something we want to rely on.
    Does anyone have an idea what this is and perhaps a better workaround than using ancient software?

    ORA-600 is a support error. That means, you should get in touch with Oracle about it. There's not a great deal anyone here can do about it.

    Hey Amit,
    I've encountered that problem in the past before with Oracle REL 5. If I remember correctly it's a bug and required a patch to be applied. Definitely search metalink 3. I'll do the same and see what I can turn up.
