  • Oracle on Mac OS X Server

    Hello everybody,
We are looking for having the Oracle database on MacOSXServer 10.2. Which version of the Oracle database would you suggest for the same ? We currently have Oracle 8i installed in Sun Unix Server and is there a way to move all our customized data, I mean all our tables and its records to the Oracle database on the Mac OS X Server v10.2.
    Thanks in advance,
    Meena

But no, we need to update your info, a version of oracle for mac intel exists,
on my macbook I have oracle 10gR2 installed, it works well,
the error I got when I tried to install oracle on MacOsX 10.5.7 Server

i want to install oracle on mac os x lion

I don't believe Oracle makes a version for the Mac. Ask tech support at Oracle. Or you can try with other database applications for the Mac such as:
    FileMaker Pro
Excel from Office 2011 for OS X
    MySQL
These are three good ones. There is an Access-like database program as part of Libre Office that is compatible with OS X. There are many OS X compatible applications for accessing and using Oracle databases, but not creating them.

  • Oracle for Mac OS 10.5.6

    Hi all,
I am new to apple mac book. I am using the latest macbook with OS 10.5.6
I am looking to install Oracle database on my macbook.
I dont have much idea how to do it so thought i can ask here.
Is there any direct installation available for mac like windows or i have to go for partitioning my drive and
load another OS (windows or linux) and then install the database?
Kindly help me with this even i have to install vmware or partition my drive.
If so i will prefer installing linux OS.
Kindly provide me with some tutorials on this if possible.
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Shane

    Hi Shane,
Oracle has only released client software for Intel Macs, but not the full database server software. If you want to run the Oracle database on your Mac, I suggest installing on a supported OS running in a virtual machine (VMware Fusion, Parallels, or VirtualBox). Michael McLaughlin has a very thorough post on his blog about using an Intel Mac as a client for a database server running in VMware Fusion.

    thanks in advance

    Oh,
    I've just installed Oracle successfully.
My Linux is installed in VMware workstation, and there was not enough disk space to put the oracle installation files.
So I extracted all files to another computer in the network, and set a share folder with VMware.
Then I run oracle installation like this
    #sh /mnt/hgfs/oracle/Disk1/runInstaller
    And the error occured.
I just fixed it by extracted oracle installation files into a local folder.
    /home/oracle/Disk1
And only Disk1 need to do this.
    I still don't know why......

  • Install Oracle on Mac

    Good Day everyone
I just finished my developer course , and i need to install oracle in my macbook air .I have MAC OS X l0.5.8 , so could u plz do a favor and tell if i can install it or not, if i can't plz tell which version of mac i should have?
    Thank U

There are currently no Oracle versions available that can be installed on a Mac OS. The last version that was available was 10.2.0.1 for OS X 10.5.4
I would suggest you install a Virtual Machine (using Virtualbox and Oracle Enterprise Linux - both of which a re available for free) and install 11gR2 in the VM. I documented this process on Win 7 Home machine - the process should be very similar for Mac OS - pl google for my blog

  • Oracle on (Mac) OS X,  when ??

Could anybody IN Oracle be so kind to point me to
news regarding porting Oracle tools to OS X ??
OS X is a lovely BSD Unix on which to run and develop.
There was an article posted on OTN a while ago about
an ongoing work INSIDE Oracle to port "some tools to
the new platform", but mainly focused on porting OCI
    basic layers first.
Please, its been very hard to get any information about

  • Oracle 10g on Mac OS X

So what do you think about Oracle releasing Oracle 10g on Mac OS X? Overall, I think it's a vote of confidence from Oracle's part on OS X's viability and potential in the enterprise. Especially since Oracle has also released their development tools for OS X as well.
    - What are your thoughts on Oracle on Mac OS X?
    - Has anyone here installed Oracle 10g on Mac OS X?
    - Is your current employer considering Oracle 10g on Mac OS X?
    - Do you think it's a good idea for Oracle to release 10g on Mac OS X?
I initally learned that Oracle released 10g on Mac OS X when I learned about the following site. It's goal is to get people to switch to Mac.

  • How to connect Oracle database using C/C++ on Mac OS X PPC G4, XCode 2.4.1?

    Hi All,
How to connect the Oracle database using C/C++ on Mac OS X? I have used Instant Client library "instantclient-basic-macosx-10.1.0.3" provided by the Oracle but could not be success. I'm using PowerPC G4, Mac OS X 10.4.9, and XCode version 2.4.1.
Specially Mr Oscar Armanini has done this in C on Mac OS X. Please let me know. I would be very thankful to you.
    Thanks,
    Ghufran

    Hi Ghufran
there are two Metalink Notes on using Instant Client with PowerPc Mac:

How to Install, Configure and Test Oracle 10g Instant Client Basic,
SQL*Plus and SDK Packages for Mac OS X
(Runs OCCI sample code - occidml.cpp)
The first Metalink Note uses an OCI examples and it is pasted here below,
in case you don't have a Metalink ID.
The second Metalink Note uses an OCCI example.
I have never used Instant Client (neither on Os X or on other platform),
but I was successful on compiling C programs (no GUI involved) using the
Full Client installed on my PowerBook G4.
I'm a DBA, but I was a developer years ago (about when Oracle 7.3
was considered a giant step forward): I installed the Oracle 10.1 db
(a complicated job for a developer) and I got the Full Client
installed as well, for free, so I was happy to compile one of the demo C sources
(those that you can find in the Oracle Pro*C manuals:
by the way, Oracle Pro*C manuals are really worth reading).
    Good luck

    Apple Macintosh PowerPC
    Goal
This article will show you how to install and configure your 10g Instant Client (IC) Software for the Mac.
It will install the following packages:
    the Basic package
    the SQL*Plus package and
    the SDK package
and then test its connectivity to an Oracle database using SQL*Plus.
It will also show you how to setup and test a sample program, cdemo81.c, that uses the Oracle Call Interface (OCI)
    to connect to the database.
The sample program is located under the <Instant_Client>/sdk/demo directory.
Solution1. Download the following three (3) files from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) website.
You will need an account to do this.
Macintosh OS X 10g Instant Client Software
    a. instantclient-basic-macosx-10.1.0.3.zip (32,395,622 bytes)
    b. instantclient-sqlplus-macosx-10.1.0.3.zip (326,740 bytes)
    c. instantclient-sdk-macosx-10.1.0.3.zip (293,913 bytes)
NOTE: The above three (3) files will be updated as new patches are released for the 10g Instant Client software. 10.1.0.3 or later versions (10.1.0.x) of these files may be used similarly with this article.
    2. Save the following text into a file called tnsnames.ora:
    # If you receive an
    # ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    # error when running the setup script and attempting to connect to Oracle
    # from SQL*Plus then the name of your SERVICE NAME (i.e. ORCL) may require
    # that you include the DOMAIN (i.e. US.ORACLE.COM) in order to connect successfully.
    # To obtain the DOMAIN of your environment, type "hostname" from your shell
    # and it should report this information back to you. Configure your SERVICE
    # NAME to look like Example 2.
    # Example 1
    ORCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = database_machine.us.oracle.com)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SID = orcl)
    # Example 2
    #ORCL.US.ORACLE.COM =
    # (DESCRIPTION =
    # (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = database_machine.us.oracle.com)(PORT = 1521))
    # (CONNECT_DATA =
    # (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    # (SID = orcl)
    3. Save the following text into a file called sqlplus_script.sql:
    SELECT user FROM dual;
    SELECT sysdate FROM dual;
    SELECT 'successful ' AS TEST_RESULTS FROM dual;
    exit;
    4. Save the following text into a file called setup1:

    # DESCRIPTION
    # ===========
    # This script will install and configure your 10g Instant Client (IC) Software
    # for the Mac. It will install the Basic, SQL*Plus and SDK (OCI/OCCI) packages
    # and then test its connectivity to an Oracle database using SQL*Plus.
    # Once this script has completed, you will need to run the script SETUP2 to build
    # and run the CDEMO81.C sample application located under the <IC>/sdk/demo folder
    # in your newly installed Instant Client home.
    # NOTE: In order for this script to run successfully, you MUST perform any
    # necessary actions required under the SETUP section below.
    # SETUP
    # =====
    # (1) You MUST be in a directoy with ALL of the following files

    # 5 - sqlplus_script.sql (connectivity test)
    # 6 - setup1 (this file)
    # 7 - setup2 (will run this file later)
    # (2) Edit the TNSNAMES.ORA file and update it with the necessary information
    # to connect to a database on your network. Be sure to note the comments
    # in this file. You will have to change the following information:
    # SERVICE NAME (orcl or orcl.us.oracle.com)
    # HOST (database_machine.us.oracle.com)
    # PORT (1521)
    # SID (orcl)

    # DESCRIPTION
    # ===========
    # This script will build and run the OCI sample application CDEMO81.C inside
    # your Instant Client (IC) software located under the <IC>/sdk/demo folder.
    # NOTE: In order for this script to run successfully
    # (A) you MUST have already run the script SETUP1 successfully
    # and
    # (B) you MUST perform any necessary actions required under the SETUP
    # section below.
    # SETUP
    # =====
    # (1) You need to edit the CDEMO81.C application PRIOR to running this script to
    # change the connection information. By default, the application will attempt
    # to connect as user SCOTT with password TIGER to a local Oracle database using
    # the BEQ-LOCAL network protocol. This will not work.
    # (A) You need to make sure you have the SCOTT/TIGER schema created in your database.
    # If not, have your DBA create it by running the script "SCOTT.SQL" from your
    # <ORACLE_HOME>/rdbms/admin folder.
    # (B) You need to modify the CDEMO81.C application to connect to the database
    # you have configured inside your TNSNAMES.ORA file.
    # (i) Open the CDEMO81.C file located under the <IC>/sdk/demo folder.
    # (ii) Find the following line of code:
    # (void) OCIServerAttach( srvhp, errhp, (text *)"", strlen(""), 0);
    # and change the two empty strings to the SERVICE NAME you are using like so
    # (void) OCIServerAttach( srvhp, errhp, (text *)"ORCL", strlen("ORCL"), 0);
    # (iii) Save the file.
    # (2) You MUST be in the initial directory where you copied all of the files listed
    # in script SETUP1. In this same location you will find SETUP2. Run SETUP2 from
    # this location.
    # (3) To run this script use the command: ". setup2"
    # BEGINNING OF SCRIPT

    6. Take all seven (7) files and move them into the same directory on your OS where you want to install the Instant Client software from:
    1 - instantclient-basic-macosx-10.1.0.3.zip
    2 - instantclient-sqlplus-macosx-10.1.0.3.zip
    3 - instantclient-sdk-macosx-10.1.0.3.zip
    4 - tnsnames.ora
    5 - sqlplus_script.sql
    6 - setup1
    7 - setup2
    7. Open the file tnsnames.ora. Be sure to review the comments in this file. You will have to change the following information to connect to a database on your network:
    SERVICE NAME (orcl or orcl.us.oracle.com)
    HOST (database_machine.us.oracle.com)
    PORT (1521)
    SID (orcl)
    Save the file.
    8. Open the file setup1, go to the end of this script and modify the following line:
    ./instantclient10_1/sqlplus scott/tiger@orcl @sqlplus_script.sql
Replace orcl with the SERVICE NAME you used in Step 7 above. Save the file.
    9. You are now ready to install the 10g Instant Client software for Mac OS X. From the location where your seven (7) files reside, issue the following command:
    [macosx]/oracle> . setup1
NOTE: Be sure to include the period "." and a space " " before the word "setup1" so all environment variables persist for the current session.
This will install the Instant Client Basic and SQL*Plus software and connect to the database specified in the tnsnames.ora file.
    10. Here is the sample output of a successful execution of the setup1 script:
    [macosx]/oracle> . setup1

READ SETUP2 TO CONFIGURE AND RUN THE OCI cdemo81.c SAMPLE
    [macosx]/oracle>
    11. Once you have obtained a successful execution of the setup1 script, you are ready to configure cdemo81.c to connect to the database you have configured inside your tnsnames.ora file.
Open the cdemo81.c file located under the <Instant_Client>/sdk/demo folder. Find the following line of code:
    (void) OCIServerAttach( srvhp, errhp, (text *)"", strlen(""), 0);
Change the two (2) empty strings to the SERVICE NAME you used in Step 7 above.
    (void) OCIServerAttach( srvhp, errhp, (text *)"ORCL", strlen("ORCL"), 0);
    Save the file.
    12. You are now ready to run cdemo81.c. You MUST issue the following command from the initial directory where you copied all of the files in Step 6:
    [macosx]/oracle> . setup2
NOTE: Be sure to include the period "." and a space " " before the word "setup2" so all environment variables persist for the current session.
This script will configure your environment, build and run the OCI sample code connecting to the database specified in the tnsnames.ora file.
    13. Here is the sample output of a successful execution of the setup2 script:
    [macosx]/oracle> . setup2

  • Oracle 8i v8.1.7.1 OCI / Mac OS X

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle8i client on Mac OS X as described in the provided readme but i can't find a way to connect to my oracle server. How do i get SQL running? i get a command not found error when typing sqlplus on the prompt and i cannot even find a file like this. What's wrong? This is my first time testing oracle on Mac. oracle server is on linux.
Thank you very much in advance for your reply
    Bench K.

    Hi,
I am not aware of a sqlplus v8 for macosx so the nonexistence of it might be your problem. The way I remember it, there are sqlnet libs that are usable from other apps. What you could do is install the v9.2 developers release. This contains sqlplus and in that case just make sure the directory containing sqlplus is in your PATH (you also need a few other environment variables; they are set in DBENV).

  • Oracle as good as dead on the Mac

Yes its as contentious title but I believe it to be true.
I have asked Oracle support & sales over 20 times for information on a Mac OS X roadmap. Each time they're promised me one, after I extend our support agreement. Yah, right, like I'm gonna do that. And each time they fail to deliver, instead shuffling me through so many departments that my head spins.
OK I realize the resources required to certify Oracle for Mac. But no progress has been made in over 18 months.
    - why are we still stuck on 10.3.9?
    - why are we still stuck on R1 with its 1 GB SGA limit?
    - why can oracle support not provide effective answers to mac problems?
If anyone has any actual info on a roadmap please post it here. Conjecture, insight, etc, need not apply. We can all take educated guesses. Mine is that Oracle is dead on the Mac. Thanks for the big tease Larry and Steve.

Once again, I agree with all the others on the value of an Oracle DB Svr (and all the other components as well) on a current version of the Mac OS.
However I have to admit more important to me is a strong set of development tools for the Mac. I too use a MacBook Pro for my development work against DB and App Servers running on Linux. This particular configuration is working very well for me.
Yet with that admission, yes, SQL Developer is a very good tool, but I still want SQL*Plus. I've been doing this work for long enough to have started without GUI's and I LIKE the command prompt. So my fail safe has been to shell into a linux account and get a SQL Plus command prompt there. And that's a decent crutch but it still isn't idea for all sorts of minor reasons.
OK.... so in summary the DB Server would be trick on our Apple platform. However at a very minimum, please provide a full array of client development tools! Oracle is doing so very much very right... please close this gap!

Applet cache is not working on Mountain Lion(Mac 10.8)
    OS Details:  Mac 10.8
Applet cache is not working on Safari 6 and Firefox 15.0.1 with java 7(provided by oracle) on Mac 10.8(mountain Lion) and even applets are not working  on chrome because its not supporting java 7(64 bit).
In order to run applets on Firefox and Safari we need to install Java SE6 which provided by Apple otherwise “PlugInProcess” does not work and it show the below warning message.
For your information I given screen shots below

2.) Firefox screen shot with Java Plug-in
         3) Chrome screen shot( it does not have java plugin)

    5) Applet Java console and it is using Java 7
Kindly review above mentioned problem and suggest us.

    Problem solved.

I suspect the USB 3.0 did not mount correctly after the first save.
Fortnuately the Canvio does work on my Windows 7 machine.

  • UI rendering issue in Skin editor (11.1.2) on Mac

    Hi,
I just tried to run the stand alone skin editor (11.1.2) on Mac OS X and noticed some UI rendering issue - All the icon and menu are hidden unless I move the mouse cursor over them. (sometimes they don't even show up if I do so) And every time when I launch the program, I see lots of null pointer exception from "com.apple.laf.AquaMenuPainter.paintMenuBarBackground(AquaMenuPainter.java:140)"
It looks like a platform specific issue, since the Oracle claims Mac is also certified. Is there any work around for that?
    Mac OS X: 10.6.7
    JVM: 1.6.0_24
JDev: 11.1.1.5 (may be not relevant here)
    Thanks,
    Steven
Edited by: Steven on Jul 18, 2011 11:03 AM

    Hi Steven,
I just downloaded standalone SkinEditor 11.1.2.1 and had the same problem as you.
I managed to get round it thankfully.
As you mentioned, the menu items become visible sometimes when moving the mouse over them. I managed to find the Preferences menu item and opened it. In the Environment section I changed the Look and Feel from Oracle to Mac OS X. When I restarted the editor came up with no errors.
I don't think the Mac OS X look and feel is as nice though so I did some more digging.
I found a file called jdev-Darwin.conf in jdev/bin that contains Mac specific configuration for JDeveloper. In here I noticed the following line:
AddVMOption    -Dapple.laf.useScreenMenuBar=trueAs the error we were getting was to do with menus I copied the line into skineditor.conf and hey presto it works for the Oracle look and feel. The app menus are on the Apple menu bar rather than the Java app window but I can live with that.
    Cheers,
    Kevin
