Oracle on windows cluster, with failsafe installed. Can it be switched live

Hi all
We have a oracle database, 10.2.0.4, installed on a 2 node Windows cluster (2003 R2 64 bit). Only one node is the active node. On top of this Failsafe is installed.
Oracle is used for SAP.
Normally when I need to switch the Oracle database from node1 to node2 I follow this procedure:
1 bring down SAP
2 set the database offline
3 switch the Oracle database using failsafe
4 set the database online
5 start sap
Being a hospital we just want to have SAP up all the time, this procedure only takes 20 min but I wondered if the switch could be done live
So just go into the failsafe manager and switch, (won't do it in prime time of course)
Can this live switch result in a corrupt database?

Hi,
to do it really life you need another technology than a "failover cluster". You can use RAC for this.
A failover cluster itself needs to be sure that the stack is down, before bringing it up on the other side. If not this can leed to corruptions... (though Oracle will try to prevent them in most cases)...

MS does not care! This seems to be a general problem with Windows 8 that a number of drivers that used to work with Windows 7 now do not work, ie. iPhone to iTunes, HTC to HTCSync, Samsung to Kies etc. I need this connection to work in order to syncronize with Outlook and my iTunes library.

Yes, you can!(:
STEP 1: Open iTunes
STEP 2: Navigate to the "iTunes Store". It can be found under the "STORE" tab.
STEP 3: On the right side of the store there should be a "Quick Links" Section. Click on the "Purchased" link.
STEP 4: Navigate to the "Music" tab and click on "All Songs". Then at the bottom of the screen there will be a button that says "Download All". Click the button and your songs will be begin downloading!
NOTE: This will only work with songs that you bought from the iTunes store, if you imported them from a CD, you will have to do it again.
NOTE: You can also do this with Apps, Movies, TV Shows, and Books.
NOTE: You may have to sign in with your Apple ID to verify the download.

How can I dual-boot Windows 7 with pre-Installed Windows 8.1

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-B5362 with pre-installed Windows 8.1.
Make DualBoot Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 (both 64 bit), so, I don't know how to do this. If I set BIOS to CMOS and Install Windows 7 disabling Secureboot, I will lost all the pre-installed Windows 8.1 and the OEM licence.
and other question... if the upper is not possible. Okay. I will delete Windows 8.1 and Install Windows 7 permanently until Windows 10 is released, but.... If I have Windows 7 with CMOS BIOS and SecureBoot disabled, then supposing that I could have problems with Windows 7, and I want to upgrade to Windows 8.1 again, and supposing that I have a Recovery Partition backed in a USB drive, what can I do for re-install OEM Windows 8.1 and the licence.

As I said above...
..you will need to install essentially all of them to make that laptop work as designed.
..install the TVAP before any other Toshiba utility.

Oracle on Windows Cluster issues

Oracle 11gr2 on Windows 64 Bit
In a active-passive setup on 2-Nodes with MS Cluster and Oracle Fail Safe,
1. Oracle Binaries are installed on local disk
2. Oracle Data files located on local disk (system, sysaux, redo, control, undo, temp)
3. Password file, Parameter files are on local disk
4. Application Data files on SAN
The issue is the cluster is unable to do a failover. But windows MSCS services are running fine. Both the Nodes are Up.
Is the reason because of the Oracle Data files not in shared SAN disk or a problem with Oracle Fail Safe.

What edition of Windows are you using 2003 or 2008. If its 2008 have you processed a validation report? In either case take both the Oracle service and TNS listner offline, then just try a fail over of the group, this will prove if the cluster is in a position to fail over (ip, virtual name, disks). If this succeeds the cluster group is good, what is left is just the Oracle service.

Upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 with clean install

I want to install Windows 7 on my Equium U-400 laptop with clean install in order to save space in my C drive. The question is how will I restore all Toshiba bundled software that my laptop came with. There is a HDD Recovery folder in the second partition but I am afraid that using this will re-install Windows Vista as well. Any help or ideas?

This software is bundled in recovery image only and cannot be downloaded from Toshiba download page. Just when you use recovery image you will have possibility to use this additional software.
With additional software I mean Toshiba CD/DVD player, trail Office version or preinstalled antivirus application.
All other stuff like Toshiba tools and utilities can be downloaded from Toshiba download page.

Dual Booting Windows 7 with pre-installed Windows 8 Laptop

Hi All,
Just after a bit of advice, my girlfriend has recently got a new laptop and unfortunately she doesn't like it, despite me loving Windows 8.1.
She would like to try Windows 8 but is going back to Uni soon so would like Windows 7 as a back-up dual booted.
I've shrunk the partition and created a simple partition for Windows 7 but really unsure about Installing Windows 7 on a Windows 8 Laptop, it's an ASUS X550CA-XX417H. I've checked power shell with SecureBootUEFI and result is True.
What would be the best way to dual boot?

Fail Safe .... I understand that only one node will be active at any time. When one fails, second node is up and the traffic is routed to the second one.

No you will need to purchase the upgrade. However if you own other Macs you want to upgrade once you have purchased Lion then you can upgrade the additional machines. Of course the additional machines must be using the same Apple ID. As long as the additional machine's meet the minimum system requirements listed below you are all set.
General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space

Can we have the .bat Scripts for resource moving from Active Node to Passive Node in case of failure, like the way we have in Unix environments...

The java load in database <sid>/<server> has already been configured.
Solution: remove the schema and load it with a new load before you run this installation

NI-488.2 v. 1.70 aborts installation on a Windows 2000 PC with the error message "Error 1311 - can't find m4.CAB." The installation was attempted from a NI CD part number 500739E-00 (July 2000).
There was no GPIB card present in the PC at the time of the installation. I am running Windows 2000 Professional SP2, build 2195, on a Dell Precision 340 workstation.

I have made a cluster of two windows based server and deployed Oracle 10g Database on both servers. Both databases are point to Virtual IP of Server. At a time only one instance of Oracle is up but when Oracle up instance is get down how second Oracle Instance will get up?
please let me know in this case i can make another instance up manually or there is another way to make instance auto up?

Yes....if there is a failure on the primary node. It works in conjunction with Microsoft cluster services and 'transfers' the instance (also the listener, EM etc) to the other available node.

Does Oracle 10G XE collide with other installed Oracle products?

I have IDS 9i (Forms and Reports 9i) installed on my laptop for use with our remote database. Does Oracle 10G XE do anything with my Oracle home settings?

If you have Instant Client (or something that bundles the Instant Client, such as ZendCore for Oracle), in your path on Windows, then you will get problems, such as
1) The install spinning
2) SQLPlus crashing when launched
The offending DLL is called oraociei10.dll
Check to see if you have this in your environment. Search will do this for you. If you do, check to make sure that the corresponding directory is not in your path. if it is, then the fix is to remove the offending directory from your path.
