Oracle online doc local search

I had download the online doc,whenever I search a keywords,it was redirect to the www..I wonder if I can search the keywords in local book tab?

This option is default I think. You can search offline like this.
Go to the top left corner of oracle documentation home.
Click on SEARCH.
On the right corner you will find MASTER INDEX.
On the MASTER INDEX you can do offline search.

This is typically the case where having the search feature working on local downloaded doc would be a nice feature, instead of going through internet for the search.

Local search in the Oracle Documentation

Dear Documentation Team,
As we know, the complete Oracle Documentation can be downloaded in HTML format and used locally. Unfortunately, it is not possible to search it locally in the comfortable way like it is done in the Internet version. Since all possible products like HTTP server etc. are available along with the Database, it would be very nice, if the documentation could be searched locally in the same way. I imagine something like that
1) put the complete documentation into the directory .\[name]
2) create index database for search
3) HTTP server must be running
4)
5) use URL http://the_host:5620/documentation/ to access and search the documentation
I think many people would appreciate this possibility.

The 11g doc is still unable to provide us a local search.
Since we can download the HTML doc, we are able to build a doc webserver, and it could be practical for intranet usage to provide to the dev/dba team a full features doc.

Oracle 8i online docs web pages not working in IE5.5?

Up until about a week ago, I was able to browse the online docs for Oracle 8i, using Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 on Windows 2000 SP2. Now, I am getting incomplete web page loads and/or pages that repeatedly reload themselves. I do not experience this problem browsing the same pages with Netscape 6.2 on the same PC. The only relevant change on my PC I can think of was application of Service Pack 2 to Internet Explorer 5.5.
An example URL is http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle8i/doc_library/817_doc/server.817/a76965/c01intro.htm#12981 - this page loads only down to the section "Data Integrity". Other pages exhibit similar behaviour. I don't experience this problem using IE5.5 with any other Web sites.
I have tried clearing all cookies, cached files, etc. to no avail.
Any help or suggestion will be appreciated.

Hi,
You need to follow below steps:
1) cd $JAVA_TOP
    2) zip -r customprod.zip. Where the list of all directory paths are present, relative to $JAVA_TOP, for custom application's java files at non-standard location.
    3) Generate & sign customprod.jar file.
Command: adjava oracle.apps.ad.jri.adjmx -areas $JAVA_TOP/customprod.zip -outputFile $JAVA_TOP/customprod.jar -jar $CONTEXT_NAME 1 CUST jarsigner -storePass -keyPass
    4) Delete temporary customprod.zip.
Command: rm $JAVA_TOP/customprod.zip
    5) Follow below steps to make the custom jar available for WebLogic
a) Take a back-up of existing /admin/template/ebsProductManifest_xml.tmp
b) Modify /admin/template/ebsProductManifest_xml.tmp to add entry for customprod.jar (after customall.jar)
c) Run AutoConfig
d) Bounce the Mid-tier services

5) If you are serious about Oracle also take time to become familar with the Oracle Technology website [http://www.oracle.com/technology] which has links to documentation and tutorials and other resources.
6) IMPORTANT: Some 'online docs' you may find, or are directed to, or may be offered (particularly braindumps), may be unauthorised materials and using them could end up with you losing credit for any exam/certification you may take.
Hopefully you will find these references and places to search useful.

Oracle 11G Dev - Local Version stops working

Hi All,
I've had a local version of Oracle 11G running on my laptop for a number of weeks, I set it up once and it's worked ever since. Until this week.
I tend to work in various locations, sometimes I am working with no network, other times I VPN to a network using a Mobile Broadband dongle, other times I use a LAN to access the network.
The problem I'm having is that my console service has stopped working and whilst the listener is running i'm getting an error when I test the connection, doing a TNSPING comes back with an error yet this was working absolutely fine yesterday - I've simply logged off a vpn and logged back on.
I saw another post here about making a copy of a directory in ..\j2ee\ and putting 'localhost' in the directory name in place of the computer name. This seemed to work yesterday but am getting the same issue today where I can't connect to the local db running on my laptop.
I can reconfigure the listener each time I change network access method but it seems bonkers to have to do that each time.
So have a feeling I've done something wrong because I can't see it being this much hassle to run a local copy of oracle.
can someone please help me get a robust version working which doesn't care if you run on no network, a vpn or a LAN?

Pl post details of exact OS and database versions. If you are using a certified version of Windows, have you installed the loopback adapter ?

Does your database host require a proxy in order to be able to contact the website?
You can set the proxy that Portal uses from the Global Settings pages - there is a link to these from the Services portlet, an instance of which can be found on the Administration tab of the Desgin Time pages.
Once you've changed the proxy setting you'll need to recreate the URL index so that it can have another go at indexing your website with the Proxy. Please refere to the Search Configuration chapter in the Portal Configuration Guide for more information.

Oracle Online backup limitations

We are using oracle 10g for SAP.
1. In which situation oracle Online consistent backup is not useful.
2. In a situation all online relog groups are corrupted. Is it possible recovery with online consistent backup ?
3. In which recovery situation offline backup is good than online backup?

Online Consistent backup only contains the offline redo log files created during a backup run. One can not get any online redo log group members from such online consistent backup. If all online redo logs are corrupted/loss then in such situation instance recovery is not possible and only incomplete partial /point-in-time recovery is possible. If the mirrored online redo log files is available then its possible to perform instance recovery.

ORACLE 8.0 Local DB connect error

I have issue with connecting to my local DB on my laptop. If I am connected thru LAN, I cannot log in to my local DB. If I unplug the LAN, and log in, I am able to connect. Not sure what LAN connection has to do with login.

You get this IP-Address (or a different one, if it is dynamic), when connected to the LAN. When not connected, your machine has virtual address 127.0.0.1 (mapped to hostname 'localhost'). To have always the same address, install and configure a loopback adapter and map your hostname to the corresponding IP-Address. How to do this is described here:

(It doesn't matter, that documentation comes from 10g, it's a generic procedure).

MDM Data Manager - Freezes at loading Local Searches

Hi all,
While the loading the MDM data manager (DM) the application freezes for ~5 min while stating "Loading Local Searches", before the DM is finíshed loading.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem, or at least where the local searches are stored on the drive?

As per my knowledge, there may be some reasons for this problem.
1. There might be a version mismatch between the MDM server and the MDM Data Manager Gui. You can check the verison only when the Data Manager opens.
However, you can check it for other GUi's and compare it with the MDM server version. ( Even the build version should match).
2. There might be huge number of records saved in your repository.
3) You might have changed the repository strutcure which has not been updated throughout.
There might be some other problem also.
Possible solutions:
1. Unload the repository and Load it again with UPDATE INDICES. This might solve the problem at the root itself.
2)I would suggest you to check your GUI version and upgrade it if its not matching with the MDM server version.
3)If still not working, you can try-unistalling the DM client and re-installing it again.
Please note these 2 steps before performing the step 2 and step3.
Check the repository for errors and if any, then verify it
Do take a back of the repository from the Console- Use Archive repository.

I have been getting frustrated using the search on these forums. I find the content very useful (especially as I cannot seem to find any other forums for Oracle Portal) but the search facility is very poor.
Firstly, the Search will on search for an exact match in the body of the messages, not the subject at all! This is very annoying as people usually sum-up there question in the subject and often do not repeat the subject in the message.
Secondly, the search looks for exact matches of your search string, so searching for more than one word become difficult. Bascially, it does only an exact match, not a word search, so forget about using keywords to search on as you would do in every other search engine and be very carful of the order of your words, you'll get a completly different set of results by swaping the order of your words... :(
eg. Selecting "ALL FORUMS", try searching for "Customizing Change Password Page". no hits? ok try "Customizing Password" still no hits? ok try "Customizing the Password". still no hits? ok just try "customizing". You get 10 Pages of 20 (Oracle conviently puts them over 10 pages so you cannot view them all on a html page and do your own secondary search using CTRL-F). Well, this is too many, lets just try "Change Password". again 20 x 10+ pages. At least this time we've got some that also have the work customizing in the subject. If only we got here on the first search... Don't even think of adding the word "PDK" or "Example" to your search...
I have already provided feedback to Oracle on this matter (and am still waiting for a reply). If you would also like the search improved, please also send Oracle some feedback and make this forum more useful. If enough people pester them they might think it's important enought to change. link below:

Oracle distributed doc capture - commiting

hi i'm currently researching on oracle doc capture and oracle distributed doc capture products,
currentyly i've problem in the commiting feature from the web oddc client,
after i scanned documents, i click send, (im using text commit profile)
but when i check in the commit folder at the capture server, there's nohting in it
(i've use c:\odc\commit for the commit folder)
but there's something in the IIS webcapture clientaccess folder (C:\Program Files\Oracle\Document Capture\WebPages\ClientAccess)
its a .PAK file name, when i open it in winrar, its indeed the document that i scanned and send from the client.
but why is it stored in here? what's with the .PAK format, and how to configure the settings properly for storing
files with its proper format (TIFF, JPG, PDF) in the server ??
i'm using recent odc and oddc from oracle, in windows 2003.
any help will be appreciated, if this works, i'll try commiting to ucm (so far it isnt working also)

yes you're right i actually didnt notice there are ODDC service in in windows service list,
when i started it (not automatically started when installed) the package get "commited".
ok, now that the service is up, there are new problems here,
i want to integrate ODDC with UCM, ie: commiting to UCM,
when i commit to UCM, and check ODDC log, it seems that it results in an error, like this ...

Could not start the oracle service on local computer

Could not start the oracle service on local computer, did not return an error blah, blah.
I am running Oracle 9i r2 Windows, and have choosen to start my instances manually. When i start them up I get the above error message. But if I am a little patient the services do start up and all is fine, so far as i can see anyway.
I am curious to know why does this error message arise.

To start the database in windows you have to start first the OracleService<SID> service.
These are the steps that you have to do at the command line:
NET START OracleService<SID>
SET ORACLE_SID=<database sid>
sqlplus /nolog
conn sys/password as sysdba
