Title:      Java SE for Embedded Meets Oracle Berkeley DB at the Edge
Abstract:      This session covers a special case of edge-to-enterprise computing, where the edge consists of embedded devices running Java SE for Embedded in combination with Oracle Berkeley DB Java Edition, a widely used embedded database. The approach fits a larger emerging trend in which edge embedded devices are "smart"--that is, they come equipped with an embedded (in-process) database for structured persistent storage of data as needed. In addition, these devices may optionally come with a thin middleware layer that can perform certain basic data processing operations locally. The session highlights the synergies between both technologies and how they can be utilized. Topics covered include implementation and performance optimization.
Speaker(s):      Carlos Lucasius, Oracle , Java Embedded Engineering
Carlos Lucasius works in the Java Embedded and Real-Time Engineering product team at Oracle Corporation, where he is involved in development, testing, and technical support. Title:      Developing Applications with Oracle Berkeley DB for Java and Java ME Smartphones
Abstract:      Oracle Berkeley DB is a high-performance, embeddable database engine for developers of mission-critical systems. It runs directly in the application that uses it, so no separate server is required and no human administration is needed, and it provides developers with fast, reliable, local persistence with zero administration. The Java ME platform provides a new, rich user experience for cell phones comparable to the graphical user interfaces found on the iPhone, Google Android, and other next-generation cell phones. This session demonstrates how to use Oracle Berkeley DB and the Java ME platform to deliver rich database applications for today's cell phones.
Speaker(s):      Hinkmond Wong, Oracle, Principal Member of Technical Staff
Hinkmond Wong is a principal engineer with the Java Micro Edition (Java ME) group at Oracle. He was the specification lead for the Java Community Process (JCP) Java Specification Requests (JSRs) 36, 46, 218, and 219, Java ME Connected Device Configuration (CDC) and Foundation Profile. He holds a B.S.E degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and an M.S.E degree in Computer Engineering from Santa Clara University. Hinkmond's interests include performance tuning in Java ME and porting the Java ME platform to many types of embedded devices. His recent projects include investigating ports of Java ME to mobile devices, such as Linux/ARM-based smartphones and is the tech lead of CDC and Foundation Profile libraries. He is the author of the book titled "Developing Jini Applications Using J2ME Technology".

  • Unexpected restarts when deploying Windows 7 and Office 2010 updates

    Hi
I am deploying Windows 7 and Office 2010 updates via SCCM 2012 sp1 and have a couple of questions
    Question 1)
The updates are made available to clients at 9am on a Tuesday morning.  The users get notification that updates are available to install.  If the user doesn't install the updates, the client will wait 24hrs and then install the updates automatically.
We have set the restart behaviour to 24hrs, so again, the user will get a pop up saying that their machine will restart in 24hours.  In my testing I have seen no more pop ups appear until 15 minutes before a restart is due and then a window appears
with a count down of 15 minutes but I think this might be standard behaviour.  I am not sure why there are options in the client settings to remind users frequently about the impending installation of update but not of impending restarts.  The
reason we delay the restart by 24hrs is to give the users the chance to restart their machines over night.  Is there a way of providing more notifications of computer restarts ?  The User Experience in the deployment of the updates is set to
Display in software center and show all notifications.  We have Group Policy set to Not Configured for Windows Updates apart from the user policy
Remove Access To All Windows Update Features which is set to 0 - Do not show any notifications.
    Question 2)
Another issue we have is that we have client machines restarting without any warning at all.  I have tested setting the user experience to suppress restarts but have the issue regardless.  It appears that this happens if the client
is off when the deployment schedule reaches its deadline and the restart time is missed.  I had one user who did restart her machine because she was prompted to restart.  When the machine came back up it looked like it installed another update and
then just resarted without any warning.  This hasn't happened often but a one user was on a Lync call when the restart occured and she was not happy.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Daniel
I have done an RSOP on a VM I am testing and only have the user policy :
Remove Access To All Windows Update Features which is set to
0 - Do not show any notifications.
    And the machine policy :
Specify intranet Microsoft update service location which is set to
Enabled The GPO Name is Local Group Policy
    The policies look OK.
As a test I have deployed some updates and set the user experience to
Display all notifications and set the Suppress restarts
for both Servers and Workstations.  When I deploy the updates, I get notifications that the updates are installing (when the deadline is met) and then I get a prompt telling me that a restart is required.  I also get a windo letting me restart now
or I can ask to be reminded in x number of hours.  This seems like expected behaviour.  It does not force a restart.  However if I leave the VM on over night I come in the following day and can see it has restarted.  looking at the WindowsUpdate.log I
can see that at 3:15am the line AUInvoking reboot system.  It looks like Windows Updates and not SCCM is forcing the restart.
    Thanks

  • Are my kernel panics due to the Java Updater (com.oracle.java.Java-Updater) ?

In the past few months I've been getting more kernel panics than usual. This is on my late 2012 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 Mac Mini, running OS X Yosemite (OS X 10.2.2) with 16 GB of RAM.
Looking at the console logs following the last panic, I can see that immediately before the crash, com.oracle.java.Java-Updater had been spamming my log. Here's a sample:
3/20/15 11:58:45.317 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.oracle.java.Java-Updater[77795]) Could not find and/or execute program specified by service: 2: No such file or directory: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Resources/Java Updater.app/Contents/MacOS/Java Updater

From what it looks like, com.oracle.java.Java-Updater had sent around 77,000 message like this before crapping out.
I'm out of ideas — both regarding whether Java is actually responsible, and if so what to do. I need Java for a few programs I run, so deleting it isn't an option, unfortunately.

  • Oracle Openworld

I am in the process of registering for the Oracle Openworld. To get more information regarding Jdeveloper ADF, JSF (ADF Faces) and Integration with Oracle Portal which one of the "special programs" should I pick ?
    Oracle Develop (or) X-treme Program?
    Please repond. It's urgent.
    Thanks.

    Hi Gustavo,
1 - Do I need to take my own laptop for the hands-on sessions?
No, the hands-on labs will be in rooms with PCs. But, it is always a good thing to have your laptop around there in any case.
2 - Is Oracle Develop included in the Full Conference Pass?
Yes, if you registered for Oracle Open World, you can attend the Oracle Develop sessions too. Please make sure to indicate you are interested in those sessions when you register though.
3 - Where can I find Full Oracle Develop schedule? I navigate through the contents but couldn't see date/time info.
It will probably be up on the web site in a week or two.
Keep an eye on http://oracle.com/openworld and make sure to pre-register for sessions you are interested in to make sure your place is secured.

  • Functions: Oracle VM Manager vs. Grid Control Oracle VM Management Update

    Hello guys,
i have seen both tools .. and i have to say that some really basic functions are missing in the Oracle VM management addon for Grid Control 10.2.0.5 .. just some examples:
    - Renaming virtual machines (because of the prefix syntax is not very useful)
    - Adding ISOs as CD/DVD after removing them one from the profile (until now you need to know the whole path to the DVD, even if the ISO is registered in the repository)
    - Renaming image files (for example the disks of the VMs .. this would be very helpful in case of cloning machines)
    - List the VNC port for the running VMs
All these features are available under the VM Manager (except the renaming file part) ... do you know when this will be implemented or is the Oracle VM management update already "finished" in its functions.
    Regards

    Hi,
You can manage your Oracle VM environment using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c. Using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c you can discover Oracle VM Servers, discover storage servers and file systems, create and edit server pools, set up networks and create storage repositories.
for more information, look at this URL.
I hope this can help you
    Best Regards

  • Annual Oracle OpenWorld 2014 User Community Cloud SIG meetup

Each year at Oracle OpenWorld and then at the Collaborate User Conference, the IOUG Cloud SIG invites participation from customers and partners interested or building Clouds using Oracle product technologies. A brief history on the SIG here
Just prior to Oracle OpenWorld 2014 they held this webcast - Marrying the Private Database Cloud and DBaaS of which I understand a replay will be available
For those to made it to Oracle OpenWorld 2014, and were able to attend the meeting Sunday Sept 28th in Moscone South 208, what was of most interest this year? and what future SIG activities are planned in FY15?
    ErikB dbasolved basheer.khan

what  interest  is there from the user community in learning more about openstack? Anyone interested in a hands on lab around the technology? Maybe at C15LV?
    Erik

The actual problem seems to be that you are using the wrong Linux distribution for you Laptop. Enterprise Linux was not designed for consumer grade hardware. To further troubleshoot the problem you will need to check for relevant output of "dmesg", i.e. check if the firmware and driver that was loaded for the device. You should also check "lspci -v" w/o grep to see more detailed information for the device.
Are you trying the latest Oracle Linux 6 update 2?
    What is your hardware?
Beware that no Oracle database products are yet certified for EL6 yet, so you should better stick to Oracle Linux 5 update 7 instead.
If the purpose of your installation is research and development I suggest to install Windows as your primary OS and run Oracle Linux inside Virtualbox. Check the following link: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html

Which of them is the most important to apply?
    Thanks,
    PetraK

    Thanks gotti and fahd
I already ask the support and he gave me docs to follow. But the more I am confused with lots of added process.
Can you validate if the process is correct? My Goal is just to comply with our IT Sec Auditor to apply the latest patch. The auditor does not even know what is the name of the patch as long as it the current updates. So I think he is referring to PSU or SPU or CPU.
This is the process I got from support:
1 Appy Oracle Database Patch Set Update (11.2.0.3.8)
1.1 Download and install latest RDA and run and send the output.
1.2 Download and install latest OPatch and list the current inventory.
        1.3 Check java version
1.4 Check and Resolve PSU conflict
1.5 Backup the current OracleHome as "root"
1.6 Stop Listener, EM, and all DB Instances
        1.7 Apply PSU
        1.8 Resolve errors if any.
    End.
So It seems I only need to apply PSU? which is 11.2.0.3.8?
