Oracle or JDE or Peoplesoft

Hello Everyone,
I have been working in Oracle technology (sql, plsql, oracle forms and reports) more than 6 years, now my company is planning to scrap "oracle forms" and to move the people to JDE(finance / SCM) or Peoplesoft (payroll) technology. I would like to know, which is the best opportunity, whether to move to JDE or Peoplesoft or to search for new job. Pls suggest. Thank you.

Hi,
my decision of staying in oracle... whether it was a good or a bad decision!!!>? What's your motive? Earnings or challenge?
For earnings, check out the salary surveys. They show DBA ahead of .net jobs:

Executive Management $97,616
Sr IT Management $91,185
Consultant $84,627
Computer Security Specialists $82,237
Computer Software Engineers $78,405

As for challenge, you cannot beat Oracle DBA. Hereare my notes:

  • Equivalent application to Oracle RMS/ReSA by PeopleSoft

Want to know if there is any Equivalent application to Oracle RMS/ReSA by PeopleSoft. If yes , then in what format does the Log file been inputed to the application . Like For Example RMS/ReSA - oracle accepts Log files in RTLog Format. Is there any file format equivalent in JD Edwards.

Just as an FYI, it would be helpful to explain what RMS is if you are posting to a forum like this. Probably 99.9% of the people in the JD Edwards world will have no clue at all what you are talking about. Let me ask this question - are you talking about JD Edwards World software or JD Edwards Enterprise One/One World? Or both? They are two different technical environments, so it does greatly matter which product you are dealing with. Since you posted in the JD Edwards World discussion, I will assume that is what you are talking about. No, there is not anything equivalent to Oracle RMS for JDE World. JDE World runs solely on the IBM AS/400 (or i5) using the IBM DB2/400 database. You can search the Oracle Technology network on phrase "Oracle RMS" to get more information on DB2 and relationship to other data sources. If you are dealing with Enterprise One/One World, then you should post this question in that forum. Hope this helps a bit.

  • How to install Oracle fusion middleware for peoplesoft

    Hi,
How to install Oracle fusion middleware for peoplesoft, what are other components needs to integrate.
    thanks,
    saravanan

You would install Oracle Fusion Middleware and select the right components you would use from that stack with Peoplesoft. Then install peopletools and point to the Oracle Fusion Middleware when prompted.

  • Can Oracle Fusion(JDE 8.12) compatible with JDE 8.11

    Hi All,
Here we are facing some problem with Oracle Fusion Intelligence (JDE 8.12).
The client having JDE version 8.11 and we are having Oracle Fusion, which is meant for JDE 8.12. And client doesn't want to upgrade to 8.12 as it is expensive for them.
So can these both(Oracle Fusion-JDE 8.12 and JDE 8.11) compatible with each other?
    Appreciated the early response.
    Thanks in Advance
    Rami

See E1 Doc 754249.1 for the workaround, an easier way to do this is already planned for a future release. Also keep in mind that currently the xmlp kernel looks at the default environment from the security stanza in the jde.ini so that if you are submitting from PY and the default environment is set to PD you will need to change the PD data dictionary items as well.

  • Oracle Character sets with PeopleSoft - AL32UTF8 vs. UTF8

We currently have PeopleSoft FInancials v8.8 with PeopleTools 8.45 running on Oracle 9.2.0.8 with the UTF8 character set.
We plan to upgrade to Oracle 10.2, and want to know if we can and should also convert the character set to AL32UTF8.
    Any issues?
(A couple of years ago, we were told that AL32UTF8 was not yet supported in PeopleSoft).

Right now, something strange, Oracle recommand do not use anymore UTF8, and Peoplesoft recommand do not use AL32UTF8 yet.
You can read the solution id #719906, but anyway, AL32UTF8 on PT8.4x should works fine.

  • Introduction of Oracle Table Partitions into PeopleSoft HRMS environment

I would like to pose a general question and see if anyone has found any published advice / suggestions from PeopleSoft or Oracle on this. I believe that Oracle table partitioning isn't supported through the PeopleTools application designer functionality. Most likely this is done for platform independence. However, we were thinking about implementing table partitioning for performance and the ability to refresh test instances with subsets worth of data instead of the entire database.
I know that this would be a substantial effort, but was wondering if anyone had any documentation on this type of implemention. I've read some articles from David Kurtz on the subject, and it sounds like these were all custom jobs for each individual client. Was looking for something more generic on this practice from PeopleSoft or Oracle...
    Regards,
    Jay

Thanks for the article Nicolas. I will add that to my collection, good reference piece.
I think you gasped the gist of the query, which was I know that putting partitioning into a PeopleSoft application is going to be highly specific to the client and application that you are running. But what I looking for was something like a baseline guide for implementing partitioning in a PeopleSoft application as a whole.
In other words, something like notifiaction that the application designer panels would be affected since they don't have the ability to manage partitions. Therefore, any changes to tables that would utilize partitioning would need to be maintained at the database level and no longer utilize the DDL generated from PeopleTools Application Designer. Other consideration would be, like maybe a list of tables that would be candidates for partitioning based on the application, in my case HRMS. And maybe, suggestions on what column should be used for partitioning, etc...All of which are touched on in your identified article about putting partitioning in at the database level for a generic application.
Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated...

Well what i need to you know from the experience people here, which Linux 32 or 64 that is more suitable or better for peoplesoft to run on. Please help me on this. Thanks.

Amusing, Peoplesoft changed the support for 64-bits OEL/RHEL the day after the last reply in this thread (mine of the 2nd of March).
If it is not too late for you, go for 64-bits, it is required OEL/RHEL 5.2 min and Peopletools 8.49.14 min.
Please, find out more in the announcement on metalink3 :

  • Installation of Oracle Discoverer for PeopleSoft and Oracle apps(11.5.10)

    Hello Gurus,
I hope I am in the right forum. I have been assigned to install Oracle Discoverer for Oracle ERP (11.5.10). We currently have a Oracle Discoverer environment for Peoplesoft. My questions are follows.
    1. Can I use the existing Oracle Discoverer which is used to get PeopleSoft data for Oracle Applications (11.5.10) ?? This way I avoid installing another copy of Discoverer. In Future, if we could use the existing technology for other Databases.
    2. If I go in for a new install of Oracle Discoverer, what is that I need to install ? I am guessing, there should be
    1. Desktop application on the client
    2. Do I need to install anything on the server ?
    3. I will have a Oracle Discoverer database
I guess 1. (Desktop application) would be installed on all desktops ? Is there a web based thingy ?? For 2 and 3 I would require the DBA's to help me out.
Would anyone have a high level diagram of the things that go in for installation ? I would really appreciate if you could send it to kiranramachandra at yahoo dot com.
    Thanks folks
    Kiran

    Hi,
    1. No, you don't need to reinstall Discoverer, you can just connect to the new database provided you have updated the TNSNames.ora file. However, before you can connect with Discoverer Desktop you will need to use Discoverer Admin to create a new Apps mode EUL in the Applications Database.
    2. You will need a client installation of Discoverer (Admin and Desktop). If you want to use the web based Discoverer Plus and Viewer tools you will need to a Oracle Application Server installation. If you are installing Discoverer 10g then you should install the Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition. But depending on your version and configuration you may need to install other tools.

  • Oracle PeopleSoft CRM pre-built VM Template

    Hey!
Am looking for a pre-built VM Template of Oracle PeopleSoft CRM.. In the instructions it says:
    Visit http://edelivery.oracle.com/oraclevm
Complete your registration information (Name, Company Name, Email Address and Country) and click on the download agreement
Select "Oracle VM Templates" from the "Select a Product Pack" pull-down menu
Select "x86 64 bit" from the "Platform" pull-down menu
Click "Go" and then select from the list of Oracle VM Templates
Download and unzip the files and read the readme
But I can't find PeopleSoft listed in after hitting the "Go" button!
Is there any other way to download it?
    Thank you in advance.

It seems Oracle needs to revisit their pages more often, the link you pointed is really out of date. The PSoft OVM CRM91 PTools 8.50 you read from the page you linked is dated from August-2010 when I see my software repository...
The Peoplesoft OVM Templates have been globally decomissioned three years ago I think, you have no luck to find out one of them unless you have already downloaded them.
Nowadays, Peoplesoft is working with the so-called Peoplesoft Images, virtual machine for VirtualBox. Unfortunately, only available for those who have a valid Customer Support Identifier (paid support) and access to My Oracle Support.
The Peoplesoft images are rebuilt on regular basis, perhaps every quarter - depending of the application, with the highest maintenance level (application and tools).

  • Impact of Oracle Fusion on Peoplesoft

    Hi All,
I am an Oracle DBA, recently supporting Peoplesoft applications. I wanted to understand current Peoplesoft development and techs like People Code, Appdesigner.
But I heard that somewhere in 2010 Peoplesoft will also be integrated into Oracle Fusion platform and I m afraid most of current tools and techs will be replaced with newer ones.
Can someone briefly discuss about the impact on Peoplesoft (from Developer and DBA perspective)? I read some papers at oracle.com but nothing is very clear.
    Cheers,
    Elvis

I believe 2010 was an early date that was discussed during the acquisition. Will PeopleSoft technology (AppDesigner, PeopleCode, etc) be replaced by Fusion (ADF and Java)? Possibly, but only in the same manner that ADF replaces Oracle Forms (it hasn't) and Java replaces Cobol (it hasn't). Will Fusion use PeopleCode and AppDesigner? Not according to current Fusion app user group presentations. Furthermore, the PeopleTools and PeopleSoft apps development teams are about to release a new version of PeopleTools and apps that still use PeopleCode and AppDesigner. As far as we can see, there is no movement from AppDesigner and PeopleCode for PeopleSoft apps. With this in mind, your organization's move from PeopleTools technologies will be based on your organizations move from PeopleSoft apps to some other app.
PeopleSoft's uptake of the Fusion platform relates to middleware: WebLogic server, XMLPublisher, SOA Suite, Oracle Identity Management Suite, etc. This does not affect PeopleSoft's meta-data editor, AppDesigner. PeopleSoft applications have a lot of life left. Learn PeopleCode and AppDesigner. There are no guarantees, but odds are pretty good that these technologies will be around as long as PeopleSoft applications. Everyone is familiar with Oracle's announcements regarding PeopleTools 8.5 and Apps 9.1, future releases of PeopleSoft tools and apps.
Fusion Apps are different from the Fusion Platform. Fusion Apps are supposed to be the ERP compliments of PeopleSoft, EBS, E1, etc, created using the Fusion Platform. Based on OpenWorld and other user group presentations, we can speculate that Fusion apps use ADF, JSF, and Java. I advocate learning these technologies as well as PeopleCode and AppDesigner because they work well with PeopleSoft apps. But will PeopleSoft apps replace AppDesigner and PeopleCode with JDeveloper and Java? I doubt it. I would like to see it. If PeopleSoft is truly meta-data driven, then, theoretically, it is possible. For that matter, if PeopleSoft apps are truly meta-data driven, then it should be possible to distribute PeopleSoft apps using a Flex UI.
