Oracle Personal Install Size

I am developing a web based product which will use Oracle as the database. The application will probably be deployed on laptops and while I could deploy each application with Oracle Standard Edition, I think this could be overkill. The install file is around 650 Meg and by the time it's installed it takes over a gig of hard drive space. Three questions:
1) Is there a way to install a very basic lightweight version of Oracle Standard Edition without a lot of overhead, similiar to a MySQL database.
2) Could I commercially sell a product with Oracle Personal Edition?
3) If so, what are size limits on an Oracle Personal Edition database?

<<1) Is there a way to install a very basic lightweight version of Oracle Standard Edition without a lot of overhead, similiar to a MySQL database.>>
If it is for a single user, you may be able to use Oracle Lite.

Please contact a Oracle sales representative.

  • Trouble installing Oracle Personal in Windows 7 64-bit environment

Hi, I just purchased Oracle Personal Edition and it does not install.
    Details:
    Hardware: Dell laptop, purchased 6/2011
    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i7-2820QM 2.30 GHz, 8 processors
    RAM: 8GB real, 16GB virtual
Hard drive available space: 119 GB on C: drive, 505 GB on D: drive
Product purchased: Oracle Personal Edition, 11.2.0.1.0 for Windows x64 (64-bit)
I originally had an instance of Oracle XE on this machine. I have uninstalled it with Windows Uninstall and followed that up with the following actions in Regedit:
    Deleted the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE key.
    Deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Ora*
    Removed directories c:\Oraclexe and c:\Program Files\Oracle
    Rebooted.
I downloaded the two Oracle server files from the cloud, extracted the zipped directories, copied "2 of 2"'s contents to the "1 of 2"'s directory, and ran setup.exe
Oracle Installer started up. The first screen asked for my email address and whether I wanted to receive Oracle propaganda by email (no).
The second screen, Installation Option, asked if I wanted to 1: create and configure a database; 2: install database software only; or 3: upgrade an existing database. I chose option 1.
The third screen, System Class, asked if I wanted a Desktop Class database or Server Class database. I chose Desktop Class.
I clicked Next and Oracle Installer shut down without a warning message.
Does anybody have an idea of how I can install this software?

Yes, the purpose of this license was just to use Oracle for my own personal use. Downloading a copy of Enterprise Edition from OTN won't solve the problem; it's the same file as the Personal Edition file, and that file doesn't work on my computer. The installer prompts for the type of installation (Personal, Standard, Enterprise) around step 4 or 5 of the install, and I never made it past step 3. The problem is that the installer crashes without leaving any error message, which means I can't fix the problem. I have no way of knowing that the installer couldn't handle my computer configuration, but I do know that my computer exceeds the minimum requirements for an install. Someone at Oracle should consider it a BUG that the installer shuts down without any indication of the reason for the shutdown. I requested a refund not because the product has a bug, but because the installer didn't work. A product that doesn't install is a product that hasn't been delivered to the customer. This is a very, very basic problem that Oracle must fix.

  • Installing Oracle Personal edition

    Hi,
I am Ritesh Kothari.Currently doing my MS in computer science from Ohio University. I want to install Oracle Personal Edition on my Win98 machine. Currently I have 1 GB of hard disk free.I have downloaded the Oracle9i Personal Edition Release 9.0.1.1.0 for Microsoft Windows 98
    The file: A91514-01.zip.
But when I click on setup.exe then nothing happens. I didnt understand what is the problem? Plz help me.
    Ritesh

    Try this:
Just found this on the be.comp forum: Will try it tonight.
    Oracle 8.1.5 Personal Edition
Oracle does not support installing version 8.1.5 PE into
    Windows Millennium.
As an unsupported workaround, you may add the following line
to the [compatibility95] section of win.ini prior to
    installation:
    Jrew=0x00080000
After setup is complete, Oracle will recommend a reboot.
    There is one additional step necessary prior to reboot;
Oracle may add a non-standard path statement to the
autoexec.bat file. Please modify this SET PATH
statement to use short-filenames if you find a quoted
LFN string represented as part of the path. You can
confirm that the path was merged successfully into the
registry after reboot by examining the PATH variable
    in the registry at
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Environment
Symptoms of a missing Oracle path statement in the registry are that Net8 Easy Config will not launch.
Please note that Oracle does not support the use of this
product in Windows ME, but have authorized these workarounds
    for testing purposes only.

  • De-installing Oracle personal edition

I've installed Oracle Personal Edition 8.1.6 on a D: drive of an NT 4.0 machine. As it turned out, I really needed to install it on C:. So, I attempted to de-install it from D:. When done with the de-installation using the Universal Installer (and it told me that all the products were removed), I rebooted and proceeded to install on the C: drive. The installer told me that there still was an instance on the D: drive. I attempted to remove all Oracle-related keys from the registry, with no success. There are two services still on the system (listener and the one for the instance). How do I cleanly delete all traces of the previous install?

first you had to stop all oracle stuff of services then you have to de-install the things. Oracle has one disadvantage is if you remove all stuff from regedit then also it'll give some problem for installation.
So better you install o.s. again do the installation it'll work prefectly.
    cheers then.

I had this same problem with this same installation on ME. After a smooth installation with PO 8, I suspected spaces in path names, since the 8i install appears to be java based. If you go into windows regedit (Win ME does not read from autoexec.bat), and search for oracle home, and all 'home' paths you have tried specifying in the initial 8i install interface, upon editing your oracle home path, you may find a space character discreetly tucked at the end of that path name. What's more, just correcting your paths through regedit may only temporarily solve your problem. Also search/correct your prompt. A quick verification of this is if, from a dos window, your prompt looks like:
    C:\> _
(notice the space between the > and _ characters) I think this is either a MS bug, or an image disk install bug, and suspect, after reading of your same problem, it comes from MS.
    Hope this helps,
    KJ

    Hi,
I am assuming that Oracle 8i Personal Edition for Windows 98 will work on Windows Me too. First of all, is this assumption valid ? If yes, then I am facing a problem right at the start of the installation. After specifying the File location path (For source path, the default is 'C:\Program Files\Oracle\STAGE\products.jar'. I have not changed this. For destination path,(oracle home path), I am specifying it as 'C:\Program Files\Oracle'. After this I get an error as follows - 'There was a problem in accessing the staging area. Please make sure the specified values for 'Source' and 'Destination' are valid.'
I am stuck up at this point. Please let me know what could be the problem.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • Oracle Personal 9i for XP download doesnt work

When I download any of the Oracle Personal 9i files to my drive and try to open them I get a "Cannot Open File, It doesnt Appear to be a valid archive" error. I tried opening the file on win2000 and winxp operating systems with WinZip installed and get the same error.

Are you getting the complete file when downloading? i.e. the filesize on your disk matches the size listed on OTN.

  • Opinion of ORACLE personal/ Lite for a Palm subsystem

I am trying to decouple an existing Palm subsystem from an application. This would involve no change to the software on the Palm but would mean having to keep a small database on a PC. Can somebody confirm for me that
    (i) Lite is strictly a piece of software for mobile devices only and is not a good solution for storing local data on PCs
(ii) Is ORACLE Personal a useful database or would people out there recommend different for PCs ?

Are you getting the complete file when downloading? i.e. the filesize on your disk matches the size listed on OTN.

    Hi
    Can anyone help me.
I have installed both Developer 2000 and Oracle Personal Edition 8.1.6 on NT4 in that order. I cannot connect to the database through Developer 2000 and sql prompt. I receive the following erors at the sql prompt, although sql was working originally.
ORA - 12545: Connect failed because target or host does not exist.

    Try to run listener manually:

  • Oracle Personal and Enterprise editions

We currently have Enterprise on our server, but we need to have Oracle on a laptop to work with tables which could be downloaded to the laptop, used while on travel, and then uploaded to the server. Would you suggest Oracle Personal Edition for this? I am not a DBA, but I may need to become one! Thanks.

My suggestion is to install Oracle9i personal edition on your laptop. You will gain in efficiency and resources since most of you work is run on the main server. There is not need for all the workload required by the enterprise edition as you have stated for your project.

  • Oracle wont install

When i double click on the setup icon it does something then i quits like it forgot what it was doing why is this. Im trying to install oracle personal edition on a windows profesional XP os.
    My setup is:
    512 MB ram
    VIA 650 CPU
    20 gig harddrive
    52X cdrom
    floppy drive
    SOYO 7VDA motherboard

I have solved this problem(Ora8.1.7 Enterprise Edition).
    you must :
    1) Unzip installation file to a folder.(d:\ora817 for example).
    2) search cijit.dll on this folder (two dll must be found).
    3) rename this dll and run setup again.
