Oracle port for FreeBSD?
Hi all!
Can someone please tell me if Oracle (e. g. 9i) is going to make a port for FreeBSD of the Oracle server?
Regards.
This has been discussed on the freebsd-databases mailing list (www.freebsd.org, search the mailing lists). The LINUX version will install using the LINUX emulation port, and I think that 9i and 10g have both been installed. Another method is to install on a LINUX box that has the installation directories NFS mounted from a FreeBSD box using the same names. In both cases the installation is, of course, unsupported by Oracle if that's what you're really looking for.
I haven't done this, since my interest in Oracle is at work where they use RH LINUX (ES 3?).

Error fetching data from a foxpro db using Oracle Gateway for ODBC
Hi.
I have an 10.2.0.1 database an a 11.2.0 Oracle Gateway for ODBC installed and configured.
The dblink test works fine, I can connect with the foxpro database because if I execute desc centros I can see the
columns of table centros.
The problem comes when I try to execute Select * from centros@fox1;
A syntax error is returned ([Microsoft][ODBC Visual FoxPro Driver]Syntax error. {42000,NativeErr = 200})
I paste down the output of the trace file with HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=255
If I run select codcen from centros@fox1; another error is shown. Tell me if you want the other trace file.
select codcen from centros@fox1

hostmstr: 2036506624: RPC After SQL BundlingThe first issue I see is that Oracle 10.2.0.1 was never certified with DG4ODBC 11. Only 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 can be used as the Oracle database HS kernel requires a gateway compatibility patch and this patch is included in 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 Oracle database patch set.
Then another error in the trace is that for each column description you have an error:
hgopoer, line 233: got native error 0 and sqlstate HY091; message follows...
[Microsoft][ODBC Visual FoxPro Driver]*Descriptor type out of range* {HY091}
Exiting hgopoer, rc=0 at 2012/05/31-13:11:28
hgodscr, line 615: calling SQLColAttribute got sqlstate HY091
It seems it is not critical as DG4ODBC continues, but a more detailed analysis would require an ODBC trace.
When looking at the table description it seems the column names are all in lower letters, for example: solar. So commonly Dg4ODBC needs to quote the names

and according to the trace the FoxPro ODBC driver doesn't like these quotes and reports a syntax error.
So this explains at least why select codcen from centros@fox1 will fail. In general the Oracle database is case insensitive and translates all object names to upper case and the select it will pass to the foreign database would be similar to:
select CODCEN from CENTROS => which will fail as FoxPro is case sensitive. So the error message ORA-00904 (missing column name) is correct and the statement you need to use is:
select "codcen" from centros@fox1;
But this might lead again to the Syntax error you got earlier => You need to check which sign (single quote, back tick, double quote) Foxpro uses to quote object names and then set the gateway parameter HS_FDS_QUOTE_IDENTIFIER accordingly.
To check which character can be used to quote column/table names you might use the Microsoft ODBc test utility which was distributed in the old MDAC 2.8:

If you know where I can download the MS FoxPro ODBC driver, please let me know and I'll check. -

Oracle 8i for Linux: Which platform
Does anyone knows which platform is supported by Oracle 8i for
linux?
Here we using LinuxPPC (fpr PowerPC-Platform) with all the given
reqirements!
Does Oracle 8i runs on systems with PowerPC-processor?
Thanx for answer
Dieter Fiebelkorn
nullI had an Alpha I wanted to install 8i on under Linux, but at
this point it only supports Linux on an Intel box. You may want
to check the migration path to see if Oracle plans to port to a

Hi.
I have solaris 10 x86, and I'd like to install oracle 9i in a dedicated zone.
The problem: where could I find a oracle 9i version for solaris 10 x86?
Thank youOracle never released a 9i port for Solaris on x86; There is however full
support (including a 64 bit version) of 10G -
Vdisks disappear in oracle vm for sparc 3.1
hi ,
i implement oracle rac on oracle vm for sparc 3 , and we have 2 guest domain running Solaris 11.1 , each guest domain in a separate SPARC T4-2 Server.
the ASM disks are 32 disks mapped to the two server and then mapped to the guest domains.
the problem here : when i added the disks in beginning it appeared 32 disks on each guest but after i restart the server and guest domain , sometimes the disks appears as 30 or 26 or 31 and sometimes 32. in other hand the disks appear 32 to control domain
and here my configuration of control domain :

Will Oracle create a Java port for Mac OS X? When can we expect a Java port for Mac OS X? Is platform independence across major platforms still a mission for Java?
Do you think you could state the obvious a little better?
I realize like others that Oracle might have been blind sided by this and may need some time to figure out what they can and can't do legally, but a statement from them isn't too much too ask.
Oh, you did leave out one option.
1. Dump Java and move on to another language.
This isn't an option that I want, and hope never happens, but this action by Apple has put a slight hold on our companies position toward the Macintosh in our environment AND also made us start to look at our language choice(s) again. A statement from Oracle isn't an unreasonable request. -
List of ports for all the WCI services
I'm trying to figure out why collab cant talk to the CNS, and I see in the log:
"Attempting to connect to teh notification server at host=blah (udp heartbeat port=28282 ..."
aarg. where is the configuraiton for this? can't find it anywhere.
Has anyone created a complete list of source - destination ports for all the new components?
I"m going to start writing them down here:
http://wiki.oracle.com/page/Webcenter+Interaction+DeploymentHi Joel,
I have had a similar problem before but I am not sure if it is related to this, if you take a look inside the PTHOME/settings/configuration.xml file you will find some extra parameters which are not listed in the configuration manager for collab.
I suggest trying some of these settings to see if they coincide with your issue. The problem I had before was when a port that was not even listed in the config manager was blocked by my firewall. -

i can only see orcl and oracle listner is started only for one database instance.i can connect to only one database instance usign sql developer how can i start oracle database listner for other database instances as wellShishirTekadeR wrote:
. oraenv
Note that is "dot" SPACE oraenv
You will be prompted for the value of ORACLE_SID (one of the databases). It looks like this:
oracle:orcl$ . oraenv
ORACLE_SID = [orcl] ? dwsbx
The Oracle base for ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1 is /u01/app/oracle
oracle:dwsbx$
HIGHLY APPRECIATED U R IMP Tips!!!!!
But it’s very difficult to remember & manually enter oracle SID & HOME details every time after run (. Oraenv)
.profile creation is simple method and no need to remember SID & HOME details.(for multiple DB in one server)You don't have to "remember & manually enter oracle SID & HOME details every time after run " oraenv sets all those details for you. All you have to remember is the name of the instance you want to work with. The same thing you'd have to remember if you if you created (as you suggested) three different "profiles" - actually three different shell scripts, each to set the environment for a specific instance.
Yes, I do place "default" settings in .bash_profile. But with multiple databases the "default" settings are often not going to be what you need so you'll still have to run some process to change them. Either a home-grown script or oraenv. And either way you will have to remember the names of the instances you have to chose from. So in general I see no advantage of reinventing the wheel.

As per user information
He is using different port number for different instanceWhich accomplishes absolutely nothing except extra configuration headaches. It accomplishes nothing for security. It accomplishes nothing for availability.
And also it is very simple method to manage three different DB in three different listener entry (for DB maintenance activity.)Not as easy as managing one default listener. By far the most frequent listener configuration issue I see on this forum is when people try to configure one listener per database.
Single listener in multiple instance (if listener down all DB connection will affect)And why would the listener be down? I've been working full time with Oracle since version 7.3 - somewhere around 1995. I've NEVER seen a listener fall over and die. I have seen many people on this forum whose db connections failed because they were trying (unsucessfully) to configure multiple listeners.
All of my servers are running multiple databases. I have one test server that is running close to a dozen separate databases. One listener. I've NEVER had a situation where I thought to myself, "Gee, it would really help if I had created a separate server for each database"

How to reconfigure Oracle-xe (Oracle 10g for linux)?
Hello!
I found this article (seems useful since I use Mandriva 2010.2):
I installed Oracle 10g from the file "oracle-xe-univ-10.2.0.1-1.0.i386.rpm".
Then, when run ./oracle-xe start and then ./oracle-xe status I get:
LSNRCTL for Linux: Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on 29-JUL-2011 23:39:49

TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00515: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
It does not seem ok to me.
I would love to truy to reconfigure it but if I try the command:
./oracle-xe configure
...I get:
Oracle Database 10g Express Edition is already configured
Does any body know how to reset and reconfigure Oracle 10g for Linux?
Best regards
Fredrikit seems to be "PLSExtProc" bu default.Nope, the ORACLE_SID is taken from the environment variable when the database is started on a *nix host, windows its set up in the database service. If you want to change the ORACLE_SID, set it. See the environment setup script in OH/bin appropriate for your shell. (OH short for $ORACLE_HOME)

Oracle Portal for win98?
Is oracle portal for Win98 available for download? Will it work with Microsoft PWS?
This is really not the forum for this type of question.
However, Oracle Portal is available for Solaris and will be available shortly for Windows NT. It will be ported to platforms that 9i Application Server is ported. I do not believe that Windows 98 is on that list.
Second answer. Microsoft PWS is not currently supported with 9i Application Server.

Unable to download oracle 10g for vista
I'm trying to download Oracle 10g for Windows Vista, but I only get a zero-byte file.
I even tried Oracle 10g XE for Windows, but I get a zero byte file.
Also, when you try to download, it waits about a couple of minutes before saying completed.
Any ideas how to resolve this?.Thanks for the replies.
It seemed to be a problem with either oracle's web site or a hop between oracle and my computer. It works now. I don't think it was my computer because I succussfully downloaded files from several other sites.
I have downloaded Oracle 10g for windows vista and installed it successfully on vista home premium 32-bit.
I did get a warning because I use DHCP. It recommended to install Microsoft Loopback driver as the primary interface - I didn't do that.
Oracle seems to run okay. I downloaded sql developer and it connects okay to oracle.
I have read other messages on here that installing oracle on a windows system using DHCP without a loopback driver can fail once my IP address changes. If I did install the microsoft loopback driver as my primary interface, what else would I need to do? Would installing this driver cause other stuff on my computer to fail?
Also, when I entered the database name for Oracle, it truncated a character.
I wasn't paying attention. So, after I installed, I was unable to connect at first because I kept entering the wrong TNS name. Is there a maximum TNS name length?
Notice the TNS name is TESTDB10 but the service name is TESTDB10G
TESTDB10 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.101)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = testdb10g)

Is there any XDK for linux? The only two platforms of XDK are UNIX and NT. BTW, XDK is not included in Oracle 8i, is it? we have to download from ORACLE website and install it after the Oracle 8i is installed? Thanks.
YuTungThe Java and PL/SQL XDKs are the same for UNIX on Solaris and Linux. We have separate Linux ports for C and C++. The XDKs are not part of the current 8i release (8.1.6) but have been announced as part of Release 3 (8.1.7).
