Oracle Portal - 1 year on, how are we all doing?

Hi all,
I imagine it's been a busy year for all of you.
We've now had Oracle Portal in place since December 2000. We've
gone from 3.0.7.6.2 to 3.0.8.9.8 and now to 3.0.9.8.2.
We've had an up hill struggle, with 9iAS and Portal bugs,
instability of our JServ, issues around load balancing and many
other problems.
I just wanted to get a general concensus of whether it's been
smooth running or a difficult time for you all?
Thanks

Vivendi Water UK Gary,
You have posed a very good question to begin the year with. I
think that the portal has a lot good potential but a lot of
things that would and should be easy to configure are not.
An example would be the ability to have a multiple select LOV.
You can do it but it does require that you create a custom type
to provide this functionality.
Another example would be the api a "beautiful mind" obviously
created them but the mortal society in general has a hard time
implementing them and please don't get me started on the
permissions required to use an api.
If you could contact me I happen to be working with a large
government contractor and I wouuld like ALL the oracle products
to shine especially the portal. If you happen to know the
product or development manager for the IFS product I would
appreciate speaking with both of you regarding some of the best
practices for implementing security properly.
BTW...
I happened to have a dba background and also was an employee of
Oracle in the US instructor group. Most of my issues have been
making use of the API. I would like to speak with you off line
about some of the issues which may or may not be what you were
looking for information.

The entire family has used one itunes account for years. How do we all set up separate iCloud accounts now? Or should we? 5 macbooks, 2 ipads, 4 iphones, 2 itouch, 2 imacs.   How does one decide what to sync, share and what not to? Green Jeans.

You need to start by understanding the distinction between iTunes and iCloud - Apple confuse the issue by referring to 'iTunes Match' as part of iCloud. It isn't.
You don't have to have the same login (Apple ID) for iTunes and iCloud; many people don't and there's no problem about it.
Your iCloud ID gets you email, calendars, contacts, iWork documents and PhotoStream syncing between devices.
Your iTunes ID gets you the iTunes Store, the App Store for iOS, the Mac App Store for OSX,, 'iTunes in the Cloud' (downloading of purchased items to any logged-in device) and 'iTunes Match' (uploading of songs not purchased in the iTunes Store).
Your family members can easily each get their own iCloud account to keep email etc. separate - in each case they will need a different non-Apple email address (a free one from Yahoo etc. would do) to set up the ID. If they are sharing a Mac they need to be using a separate user account.
They can have their own iCloud accounts and still all sign into the same iTunes account: or they can open their own iTunes accounts using their new iCloud Apple IDs.
BUT they cannot transfer items purchased under the present iTunes ID to different iTunes IDs.

  • How are you all able to test Workflow

I'm trying to implement workflow (update values). It is my understanding that any changes made to the workflow don't show up until the next day. If I am correct this makes it hard to test a workflow (in a timely manner)to be sure it is set up correctly.

One thing I've learned is to debug the workflow creating tasks that are assigned to yourself. Once that is working, then go switch to email (assuming that's what you are trying to do). I've found the task creation to be very dependable. Email delivery has disappointed me more than once.

  • Oracle Portal - success stories

    Hi to all:
I'm just curious whether there are big corporate portals, built using Oracle Portal.
    Tanks

Yes. There are several large portal implementations.
    1) Go to the Oracle web page which features Oracle Portal customers: http://www.oracle.com/customers/products/portal.html
    2) Do a yahoo or google search on: customer case study "oracle portal"
    3) You may refer to my profile on LinkedIn for several Oracle Portal implementations that I have been directly involved in the last few years: http://www.linkedin.com/in/kpande

  • Oracle Portal Sites

Are there web sites developped with Oracle Portal includding Forms, Reports ... ?
Does somebody knows sites that use these technologies?
    Thanks

    Ben,
A search for live portals turned up this link.
Some of these sites use the forms and reports components of Oracle9iAS Portal.
If you are talking about Oracle Forms (Oracle9iDS Forms Builder) or Oracle Reports (Oracle9iDS Reports Builder), then I would suggest looking in those forums.

  • Oracle portals   PDF files

PLEASE CAN I GET THE PDF FILES FOR ORACLE PORTALS
    Best & Regard
    Maher Khader

We are currently working with Adobe on this requirement and have implemented a POC that allows you to submit a document to workflow in content DB (for example, during a check-in operation) and through a custom BPEL flow, submit to an Adobe LiveCycle server where the document gets turned into a PDF, has policy and digital signatures applied to it.
The current POC does more than just convert to PDF. it does the following to the original document:
    1) Converts it to PDF
    2) Inserts signature fields, so the PDF can be digitally signed later
    3) Applies policy (applies E-DRM, e.g. the end user can view but not copy the text or print the PDF)
    4) Certifies the document (Server applies digital certificate to signature field)
    5) Reader extends the document (enables end user to digitally sign PDF and add comments with Adobe Reader)
    thanks,
    Matt.

  • How to call a form in Oracle Portal?

I'm trying to call a form from my corporate Oracle Portal. Can anyone advice me how to do it?
    Thanks and Regards.

    Alex,
you are not providing enough information, making it not easy to provide a short answer without going down the whole tree of possibilities.
Case1: You want it appear as a link in Oracle Portal.
    a) You can use the "myfavorite" portlet, which is a kind of bookmark list that can be managed by each user individually.
    b) you ca create a content area and make it to appear as a type URL. Then you define it as a portlet.
    c) You create a HTML page with all the forms links in it and use the URLServices portlet or teh HTML portlet
Case2: You want it to appear within the portal as a portlet.
In this case you choose the URL Services. URL services are a part of the Portal Development Kit and in there a part of the Java Portal Development kit.
It is not recommended to integrate Forms as a Portlet in Portal (CASE2) but to start it from a link (CASE 1) for this reasons:
    - http accept-header misses Browser type information information
    - Forms startup time slows down portal page startup
    - SSO doesn't work straight away
    - Forms9i, because based on java 1.3, will reload Forms when reloading the portal page, loosing the application context (this is not yet an issue with Forms6i).
Of course, you can have it working as a portlet and I did it in the past, but it will require some work to do that is not yet documented (and probably never will).
    Cheers
    Frank

  • How to put a pdf file in Oracle portal?

I want to put a pdf file in Oracle portal. But how I do it?

Are you using Oracle Portal, or Oracle WebCenter Portal?
In Oracle Portal, you can go to edit mode (use the link or add ?_mode=16 to the url) and create a file item.
In WebCenter Portal, you need to add the content to WebCenter Content (default content repository for WebCenter Portal) and use something like the content presenter to show the content on a page.
    Kind regards,

  • How to do credential vault in Oracle Portal?

    Hi,
How can we do credential vault (allowing portlets to log in to applications outside the realm on behalf of the user--imitating SSO by managing multiple identities for portlets and users) in Oracle Portal ?
Thank you very much for your help.
    Jeffry

You can use credential vault with 10.1.3 Web Center Integration WCI, or with FMW 11g Web Center.
With FMW 11g, the APIs are mainly available for Web Center but havent seen any references for Oracle Portal 11g.

I want to send some file by FTP.
How can I send files by FTP with Oracle Portal?
    Any ideas?

    Enrique,
Are you trying to transfer more content from remote locations to expose as items within a portal page? By itself, the Oracle Portal runs within the context of the database so I'm not sure how FTP at the OS level will help. However, if you're attempting to transfer files from a remote PC to upload within the Portal, here are a couple of suggestions.
    Option 1:
    A. Create a portal page.
    B. Convert a region to Items.
    C. When you're challenged to upload a file from the local OS, ensure you've a drive mapped to your remote location and pick the file to upload into the Oracle9iAS Portal.
    Option 2:
Alternatively, the Oracle9iAS Portal 9.0.2 supports the WebDAV protocol(Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning Protocol) allowing endusers with a WebDAV client to upload content into the Portal seamlessly from their desktop.
    Pls. check out:
