  • Oracle Portal 11g, Oracle WebCenter Suite or Oracle WebLogic Portal ?

Witch of these technologies, Oracle Portal 11g,
Oracle WebCenter Suite or Oracle WebLogic Portal ?
is the future product of oracle ?
I am going to use portal but I don't know witch of these product is the correct one.
I need help to clarified it. As i am going to use portal I want to use the one that oracle intend to support

    Hi Harish,
There are lot differences are available when you compare these three products, some them are
    Oracle Web Center Suite
Comprises of various components such as Web Center Interaction,Oracle Entitlement Server,Oracle Personalization Server an Ensemble(for proxying content and mashups) and chat server, wiki server, blog server, forum etc are available with web center suite. The collaboration tools are out of the box,so you dont require to redevelop anything to enable collaboration for your site.Basically webcenter is more powerful when used to develop intranet sites rather than a website which requires less collaboration.
    Oracle Portal 10g
Oracle Portal 10g is the primary oracle portal product before oracle bought BEA.The main difference is the architecture and framework,Oracle Portal uses sql/plsql intensively for processing the page as all their pages are developed from browser.Every thing you develop is streaming that is queried from DB in contrast with weblogic portal which has the feature of file based portal which is faster compared to the streaming(persistent desktops). The architecture is different compared to weblogic and webcenter. For ex:There are sql and pl/sql portlets which can be developed very faster which not there in the other two platforms.
    Oracle Weblogic Portal 10.3
It is hot in the market right now and development is easier and architecture supports both file based and streaming, the primary features of all the portal product are more or less same but webcenter has more collaborative features.Weblogic portal is very stable as it is on WLS which is a stable weblogic server.
I prefer if you have any previous experience on any of these products then built on that one.Else start with weblogic portal which is easier to startwith compared to others.

  • Oracle Portal with Oracle Web Cache

How can I configure Oracle Portal (or Web Cache) to work together?
I have installed and started both of them. Now, Web Cache works fine with standard html pages (for example Apache docs) but after trying to reach portal the url is redirected to standard port - on which Portal runs (Web Cache works on 1100 and Portal on 7778).
So it seems that portal pages are not cached.
    Web Cache:
    Application Web Servers:
    hpwin 7778 100 30 5 / 10
Where can I find any information about that?
    best regards
    KJ

Portal PM, I thought you said that this solution would not work. Everyone I have heard so far has said that you cannot configure webcache to work with Portal documents. Does this work or does it not?
Read the messages below from the bottom up.
It's not possible to do that today.
In 9.0.2 (the next release) we will be using WebCache configured out of the box so you won;t need to, however, till then you cannot use webcache with Portal 3.0.x
    Thanks

please try using this configuration on http.conf
    Port <webcache port>
    Listen <apache listen port>
    ServerName <webcache hostname>
you must running ssodatan script again.
    Note :
this config only make portal work together with webcache.

  • Deploying Oracle Portal without Oracle 9i AS

I have developed a site in Oracle Portal using Oracle 9i
Application Server. I would like to deploy the same in a machine
without Oracle 9i Application Server, can I deploy the same.
    Thanks in Advance
    Ravi

Oracle Portal can only exist on top of OAS. It would not be
possible to install portal on server without Application Server
and to run Portal app. on machine without OAS.

  • Oracle.portal.provider.v1 and oracle.portal.provider.v1 confusion

Hi, i've got a very simple question, i'm very confused with the recent download of the PDK. The problem is that a lot of articles use in their examples the Java API oracle.portal.provider.v1, but the current version of the portal is v2 and in the jar files pdkjava.jar and ptlshare.jar exists an oracle.portal.provider.v2 package and the oracle.portal.provider.v1 package is almost empty and the v2 package is different from the ancient v1, what i really need to know is:
Its possible to use the v1 package in the new portal release without any addicional work?
Has the v2 package fully replaced the v1 packaged, and if so why the documentation is not updated?
    Thanks,
    Antonio Cruz

PDK contains both v1 & v2 and the developer is free to choose
whichever version he is comfortable with.
v1 related jpdk information can be found under
    {PDK-EXTRACTED-DIR}/pdk/jpdk
v1 related urlservices information can be found under
    {PDK-EXTRACTED-DIR}/pdk/urlservices
v2 related information can be found under
{PDK-EXTRACTED-DIR}/pdk/jpdk/v2. It contains both JPDK and URLServices
    in it.
    To answer you questions -
You can use v1 package without any additional code.
The sample are available in both v1 and v2. So, naturally there is
no need to change the articles.

  • Extend the SSO Oracle Portal Authentication Mechanism

    Hi All,
I need to put some logic just before the Oracle Portal user is authenticated to SSO.
Specifically I need to collect some information about the user from a database just before the SSOLoginServlet is called with all the parameters it needs. (username, password, sitetoken etc...)
Is there a class i can extend, an API I can use.... whatever
In fact I need to extend and put some more logic to the login mechanism of SSO.
Is there a way to do that?
If there are many what is the best method?
    Thanks

I'm not an expert, but I think this might be fairly easy to implement. If you look at Chapter 12 of the SSO Admin Guide (http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28196_01/idmanage.1014/b15988/custom.htm), it tells you what parameters and what url to call for the login process to complete. Therefore, you should be able to submit your custom login page to another servlet for your pre-processing, and then forward on to the sso logon servlet.

  • Migrating from Oracle to portal to Oracle Webcenter

I have been trying to find information on migrating from Oracle portal to Oracle webcenter.
So far I have been unsuccessful in my search.
I have raised this question on My Oracle Support to see if they could assist but their response/only suggestion was to use Oracle Consulting.
Has anybody carried out this migration before?
If so please could you advise and point me in the right direction to where I will find the relevant documentation, or if appropriate please could you describe the migration process.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Connor

    You have to specifiy "Portlets".
Are they PL/SQL portlets , PDK portlets or JSR168 portlets?
PL/SQL portlets are not possible to migrate. You should rewrite them to JSR168 compliant portlets.
PDK portlets should be able to run in webcenter. You can register PDK producers in webcenter enabled application however... If you are using portlet specific API's than the portlets will not work.

  • How to put a pdf file in Oracle portal?

I want to put a pdf file in Oracle portal. But how I do it?

Are you using Oracle Portal, or Oracle WebCenter Portal?
In Oracle Portal, you can go to edit mode (use the link or add ?_mode=16 to the url) and create a file item.
In WebCenter Portal, you need to add the content to WebCenter Content (default content repository for WebCenter Portal) and use something like the content presenter to show the content on a page.
    Kind regards,
    Rob

  • Next version of oracle portals

    Hi,
What is the new release of Oracle portals after Oracle Web Center???
    Thanks in Advance,
    Venu--

    What do you mean?
Webcenter is the new generation portal of oracle. I don't think they are thinking on what comes after webcenter...
Oracle will stop supporting the current portals (oracle portal, weblogic portal) in a few years and they will make webcenter the next choise.

  • Problem running Oracle Portal to Go (Oracle9i 1.0.2.0.0)

I have installed Oracle9i Application Server WE 1.0.2.0.0 Standard Edition on Windows2000 Professional Edition. I am getting problems regarding running Portal to Go.
The installer said that installation was successful. Moreover I have done the configuration tasks mentioned Oracle9i installation guide under post installation steps for Oracle9i.
But Oracle Portal to Go is not running and returning error message. Are there some other tasks still to perform to configure the Oracle Portal to Go Standard Edition?
Here it is a brief Description of what I have done with the installations process
System: Pentium II 500 MHZ with 256 MB RAM and 15 GB Hard Disk so enough space available for installations.
Windows 2000 professional was freshly installed
All pre installation tasks are done like paging file size is 896MB
Important Installation steps and points are as under (Standard Edition of Oracle 9i Application Server 1.0.2.0.0):
I followed all the steps given in Oracle 9i AS installation guide
On Windows 2000 Installer never asks for reboot before actually installing the Oracle 9i application server (Chapter 4 of installation guide: preparing system for installation: step5: page 5 of 25). So I manually reboot the system
During installation when I reached Database Access Descriptor (DAD) for Oracle Portal. In TNS connect string field for Apache listener Configuration I entered the same name (abc) (chapter 4 of installation guide: installing oracle 9i Application server: step2, 3: page 10,11 of 25) as I was going to use for my Global database name later at database Identification steps (chapter 4 of installation guide: installing oracle 9i Application server: step 4: page 12 of 25)
Note: In an other installation I left the same fields (TNS connect string) blank but of no use.
(Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
When installation of Oracle9i AS reaches 100% installer opens a command prompt and displays
    ORA: 12541 TNS: No Listener
    Enter user name:
When I enter SYSTEM as a user name it displays
    Password:
I entered manager as password and then it displays
    ORA 12560: TNSProtocol adaptor error
And once again it asks for user name and password
I once again enter system as a user and manager as password.
(Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
After 100% completion of the installation the configuration tools screen appears
(Chapter 4 of installation guide: installing oracle 9i Application server: step 10: page 17 of 25) and the following tasks are performed
    Net8 configuration Assistant succeeds
    Oracle database configuration assistant succeeds
When The Oracle portal 3.0 configuration Assistant Starts
I hold the installation steps for oracle portal for a while and do some database configuration tasks that are necessary (may be some are not) for installation of portal.
(Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
    For example
Increase the table space size of Users (400 MB), and Temp (100MB) table spaces.
Validated invalid PL/SQL Modules with ULTRP.SQL script
(Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
Installed dbms_job.sql package as it was mentioned in another guide (Oracle portal-to-Go installation Guide- Release1.0.2: Page 1: last line)
(Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
    Stopped the database and listener
And did some changes as was asked in Oracle portal-to-Go installation Guide- Release1.0.2
Edited the init<SID>.ora file and set the following fields
    aq_tm_processes = 1
job_queue_processes = 4 (2 were recommended in guide but I left the already set values)
    job_queue_interval = 30
(Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
Also I did the following too (though these are recommended for Internet file system)
opern_cursors = 300 (in installation guide it is asked 255 but I kept the already set value)
shared_pool_size = 52438800 (50M was suggested and this is more than that)
    processes = 200
(Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
I started the database and listener
Proceeded the installation of Oracle Portal as is described in installation guide for Oracle 9i Application guide 1.0.2.0.0
And successfully completed the installation of Oracle Portal
There were no errors reported on the installer however when I read the installation log some errors were mentioned at the end of the file
Please see the attached log file.
I also completed all the post installation tasks at the end of chapter 4 of Oracle9i Application Server installation guide 1.0.2.0.0 except the configuration of Oracle Internet file system (is it necessary for running Oracle Portal to Go)
When I run the oracle portal to go the following situation is encountered
    Working: http://localhost/pls/portal30/admin_/dadentries.htm
    Error at: http://localhost/pls/portal30/portal30.home
Error: The preference path does not exist: Oracle.Portal.Page (WWC-51000)
(And this is the main source of confusion)
    Working: http://localhost/pls/portal30/admin_/gateway.htm?schema=portal30
    Working: http://et-wks-08:5555/invoke/wm.server.admin/adminPage
Are there any other guides and post installation steps still to follow to successfully run this Portal to Go or it is sufficient?
I can also send the installation logs of both Oracle 9i application server (installActions.log and installActions2001-05-28_03-50-56-PM.log) and Oracle portal to Go (install.log).
If you ask, I can send you the installation guides that I have followed and the screen shoots of the error messages for a detail review.
Moreover can anyone please tell me if this version of Oracle 9i Application server is ok or I must try some other version?
Also advise any other if any successful configuration and installation options.
Is it possible to run this portal to go with any other installation options/arrangements/configurations etc?
Any help from anyone will be highly appreciated.

Can anyone tell me how to build an oracle portal using JSF,Jsp and Struts Framework.
Also please provide any manual or documentation for developing oracle portal.

At present, i think the best thing to do is to look at the example provided with the struts-faces integration taglib. I don't know any documentation about it.

  • Oracle Portal - Associated Procedures With Custom Item

    Dear Gurus,
I need to ask a question, when i have a custom Item built using Oracle Portal 10.1.4.2.0. and we have two procedures associated with this item. I need to display this item in some place with the first procedure and in another place with the second prcoedure.
What i want to explain is written as an example
Custom Item Type asscoiated with two different procedures (News Custom Item Type with two different procedures "brief procedure" and "detail procedure").
In one page i need to invoke the first procedure to display the item in Detail view and the second procedure to diplay the item in Brief view.
How can i invoke different procedures associated with this custom item type or how can i apply different procedures on custom item type to gain different views.
Please can help me or if you need a details i can presents more details.
    hint:
i know something in Oracle Portal called ("Associated procedures"). and we use "related funbctions" attribute when we need to invoke a procedure to render some Custom Item Type.
But i cannot do that and this question is very important
    Best Regards,

I've sorted this now - silly me, I'd left a <blank line> attribute in the display properties...

  • WebDB vs Oracle Portal

It appears that Oracle is replacing WebDB with the new Oracle Portal product. Does anyone here know why Oracle is replacing WebDB and what the differences between WebDB and Oracle Portal (performance, development ease, etc).
    Looking for an answer ASAP.
    Thanks,
    David Fordham
    [email protected]

This is not really the forum for this type of question. This forum is for questions related specifically to the Portal Development Kit.
However, Oracle Portal is not really replacing WebDB in a sense. It is the same product. Because WebDB has taken on a larger role than Web-enabling the database, it has now become Oracle Portal. Oracle Portal offers the same features and benefits that existed in WebDb, but now also offers Portal services as well.
    Hope this helps,
    Sue

  • Oracle Portal mirror site

Is it possible to run Oracle portal on server "A" and every night make a copy to mirror site "B" witch runs on simple non-dynamic content server (for example apache without connection to databases).
In this case "A" is used to make some content upload and management, but "B" is public server.
If it is possible witch rules i must keep in mind?
    Thanks.

The closest thing we have to this in the current release (3.0.9) is a Nav Bar element called a content area map. When selected, it will show the user all the content areas that the user has privs to see in the portal and can drill down within a particular content area to access folders/sub folders.
In V2 (as part of the content area/page merge) we have defined a new site map-type widget that can be added to any item region on a page. When selected, it allows you to view one or all page groups in the portal (restricted by user privs) and to drill down within a particular page group to access pages/sub pages.
