Oracle Portal Migration or Clonning

Hello,
We have a Portal in 9.0.4 in one server and would like to clone it or migrate to another server, where I can find documentation on how to perform this task
Thanks

Hi,
I think, 9.0.4 did not have Cloning as the scripted cloning procedure you see in later versions. Cloning feature was introduced in Release 2 of 10g OAS. Please see the following link for description of new features in this release.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/core.1012/b13995/whatsnew.htm#sthref7
However, you can create multiple instances using export/import, or database procedures, and that is supported for portal 9.0.4 too. You can propagate your portal objects across other databases to create identical instances. that may also be used to create multiple clusters and then clone configurations using DCM.
Check this link for one such deployment.

Also, please see the following note for a detailed procedure and some really helpful pointers.

  • Oracle Portal Migration - Help

    Hi,
I am trying to migrate the oracle portal that is configured to use OID from development to testing environment and I don't know where to start.
Can anybody guide me where to start? There has been some development done and I want to replicate DEV to Test Env. I don't know what files need to be version controlled.
    Any response will be appreciated.

  • Portal migration

    Hi All,
I am involved in a Oracle Portal migration project. The current version of Portal is 3.0.9 which is no longer support by Oracle. The client has requested to upgrade into OAS 10.1.4. The curent database for Portal repository is 8.1.7.
I have got an idea from OTN that this can not be upgrated into 10.1.4. But I like to hear from you all who has been involved in Oracle Portal migration before. Thanks for your time.
    Kevin

    Hello Everyone,
Let me provide you a brief desription of what I am doing now: Implemeting Oracle SSO/Portal but this needs to be integrated with PeopleSoft too for authentications.
I have reviewed some whitepapers and it explains that Oracle SSO Server for PeopleSoft version less than 8.4.7 that is runing on 3 party web server like wev logic, Oracle SSO Server can create PS_TOKEN too and we can single sign on between PeopleSoft and Oracle Portal but how?!! I couldn't find any documents yet?
Any help? To be honest, I have implemented SSO before but this case scenario is quite different. Will appreciate your help.

  • Migration of oracle portal contents/applications to Weblogic portal

I have a website running on oracle portal. I want to migrate all those contents (applications/portlets) to weblogic portal. I dont know where to start from. Can somebody please guide me and give me some tutorials for this.
    Thanks
    Joseph

    Hi Ajay,
If  the configtool is showing the old information of instances , it has got two things
    1.  JMT phase of your migration has not been performed correctly.
    2. If you are using the same hostname , SID , instance name , then it will calculate the same instance number.
In JMT  phase it  should delete all the information of dialog instance  and calculated the new instance id
on the basis of box number calculated from the file cluster_id_switch.properties while migrating the CI.
checked the JMT folder inside sapinst_dir.
Checked the below parameter in cluster_id_switch.properties
    src.ci.sid=
    src.ci.instance.number=
    src.ci.instance.name=
    src.ci.host=
Checked the logs for java migration tool phase and java configuration parameter phase. Also do check the box number of the system. If the box number is not correct as per your input then you will not able to patch your system further.
Now in second case, If you are keeping the same hostname , instance name and SID , then it will calculate the same instance id so you don't need to worry in this case.

  • Migration from Sun Java System Portal Server to the Oracle Portal

Hi, I'm in charge of evaluate the viability of a project that comprises the migration from Sun Java System Portal Server to the Oracle Portal. so I'm wondering if there is a kind of out of box migration tool in Oracle Portal or exists some guidelines to do the migration. In the other hand there is the option of migrate from Sun Java System Portal Server to Oracle WebCenter?
    Thanks in advance!

The migration path for Sun Portal Server is Oracle WebCenter Suite. WebCenter is a significantly different architecture so there are no tools planned for the migration. However, we do plan to document and publish a whitepaper once we've assisted a few of the initial customer migrations.

  • Portal Migration from 9i to 10G

    Hi all
Iam new to Portals, We will be getting a portal migration project from 9i to 10G.
I need to know the upgradation procedures needed to do the same. It will be very helpful if anyone can refer me any good document or white paper for this.
    Thnx in advance
    Sriram

    Hi
I recommend before migrate to a new version, review the export and import, because this a bug in the portal 10G Don´t clone that's why is not function is the 10G version. you cand find documentation about migration and requiriments in the Oracle portal section. Be carefully with the indications in the pdf documentation and do a plan B if you have problems with the migration.
    Best regards

  • Install and config issues with Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer

For a while now I've been struggling with migrating a testing database to a newer version.
And right now I'm pretty much stuck at trying to configure Oracle Portal, Forms Reports and Discoverer
    What I've got:
    Windows server 2008 R2 64bit
    Oracle 11g database
    Java 6u27 64bit
JDK 1.6 64bit (using this after 1.7 ended up throwing out bugs while trying to start a weblogic server)
    JDK 1.7 64bit
Weblogic 10.3.5 (or so i think - I've installed from the wls1035_generic.jar from the oracle website)
PFRD 11.1.1.2 with 11.1.1.3 installed over it, installed without config
    and a hanging up configuration
Basically I've been trying to install PFRD (only forms, reports and enterprise manager from it actually) but it kept failing once it got to the configuration stage, so I installed without config, applied 11.1.1.3 and now trying to run the config manually with the good old \bin\config.bat
Result - the config froze for approx.18 hours then failed
There isn't much useful info I could deduct from the logs, mostly just says one or more configuration parts failed. At one place it mentions trying to set up a domain and starting up an adminserver for it - and apparently that's where it hangs up and finally times out and fails.
I'm a little clueless what to do about it as the logs don't say anything else of use I could understand. Any ideas there?

Trying the step by step, the only difference between that and what i do seems to be the file copying (which I can't do - there is no windows\extra\ directory anywhere, the files mentionned seem to already be on their places and either only there, or exactly the same) and clistering
So far the news ain't good - the config process hangs on creating domain ->Step Creating Domain started
It isn't frozen per se - the process doesn't use up any processor time, memory consumption within bounds, it reacts to button clicks and all..it just doesn't do anything concerning the said domain
the last thing the .out file shows:
Creating a new AdminServer Object ...
    AdminServer port is 7002

  • How to put links to E-Business suite pages in Oracle Portal

    Hi All,
I am looking to create an employee portal using Oracle Portal 11g. One of the requirements is to provide some summary information on, say benefits in the portal and provide a link to the detailed benefits page in e-business suite from there (portal is fully integrated with EBS in our case). Can someone with experience doing this put light on the following :
    1. What is the simplest way to provide the links ?
    2. Is there any way to make them migration proof ? for example : my link now points to the DEV environment and in the production, it should point to the PROD.
    Regards,
    Vinayaka

    Hi,
This question would probably be better addressed in the E-Business Suite forum at https://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=3

  • Oracle Portal Or Webcenter

    Hello All,
We have Oracle Portal 10.1.4 implemented for our intranet and it works fine. we have been using for last 2 years. Now we like to have the web2.0 apps like
forums, wiki, voip to improve our employees interaction. The suggestion s below from the webcenters blog helps to select technology if it for a new implementation.
    http://blogs.oracle.com/webcenter/ .
How ever can any one please explain is it a good choice to move to webcenter  from oracle portal for the new requirements like forums ,wiki,voip.etc..
if we we have a enough time to develop application for forums, and blogs (sure it could be done through portal) is it worth to go for a webcenter?
we have only less contents on the portal most of them are static content managed by portal admins.
Please suggest me on this technology migration/selection..
    Thanks
    -Prem

    Hi,
We are using Webcenter Framework for a client who is already onto Oracle Portal.
It is really a good product built by Oracle. You can surely migrate to webcenter considering the following points:
Easy Integration and building of Wiki, Blogs, Chat, Forum
Very Easy to build, fast development
Webcenter comes with its own sample for Discussion Forums, Wiki (We have tried and tested them it works fine)
Support for Oracle Portal will be removed in near future and Oracle itself supports migrating to Webcenter or BEA Weblogic portal (since they have now bought BEA)
Can migrate to webcenter if you do not have to create new pages frequently (unlike portal where you can create new pages / sub-pages on the fly, creating pages in Webcenter application will make you deploy the application again after building it.)However, there are some things which you will need to keep in mind:
Webcenter is fairly new and as a result there are some bugs in the 10g version
11g is out for beta testing and hopefully there are a lot many improvements and I did see some more features (would be wise to migrate to 11g)
We are facing some memory issues with webcenter applications but mainly because of using ADF Portlets in large numbers. (Hope to solve that soon)Hope these points are helpful.

  • About Oracle portal Omniportlet XSL relative URL.

    Hi,
I use Oracle Portal 10.1.4 (on OAS 10.1.2.0.2) and we have 2 server.
The first is on LAN for testing portals and the second is a pre-production server to give public access to our portals to our clients for final testing purpose.
So the two servers have different hostnames. The first is http://dev-oraportal.ccip.fr (called DEV) and the second is http://rec-oraportal.ccip.fr (called REC)
We create portals page groups on the DEV and then export them on REC for client testing.
Omniportlet is inserted on some of our portal pages to display RSS feeds. So we collect RSS using an absolute URL to the RSS .xml file and we also use an XSLT file to transform the RSS RDF schema to <ROWSET>/<ROW> format understood by Omniportlet.
My problem is that Omniportlet only accept absolute URLs for my XSLT file. I created a protal page within my page group to store this XSLT file and so I'd like to use a relative path in order to keep links valid when I'll export my page group to the REC server.
Today, I have to change the XSLT file URL manualy when the migration is over to replace "dev" by "rec" in the server hostname.
Is there any way to use relative paths for XSLT file in Omniportlet ?
I tryed several ways from using many "../" in path to map to the right XSLT path to using portlet parameters in the XSLT URL field as #Param1#/myPageGroup/XSLTFiles.xslt
    But nothing works.
Note that I successfully used parameters in the Omniportlet View tab, but I can't make it work in the source tab.
    Thanks,
    Nicolas.

thanx for the answer... I visited http://portalstudio.oracle.com long time ago but i need more specific information about this. I have everyone manuals and tutorials available in www.oracle.com.... I know some web pages that use oracle portal (www.tomatoland.com, testdrive.compaq.com) and i think that are very complete....

  • Oracle Portal Difference

My organization is evaluating to use Oracle Portal. Can someone tell me the difference if I were to migrate from a portal built based on Spring/Tiles to Oracle Portal? can the oracle portal still use the Spring Framework or does Oracle Portal has its own framework in place?

    Hi Sergio,
    I read the suggested forum.
But to me, it was a little bit confusing.
I don't know these technologies so deeply.
I just want to know, if both (Oracle Portal and HTML DB) can be used to generate simple reports in Web?
As I told you, we are using Oracle Reports which demands Enterprise Edition of IAS. This is very expensive to my company.
So, I need to suggest some other tool to substitute Oracle Reports, so the company will be able to decrease the IAS version to the Standard one.
In your opinion, which is the best tool in terms of generating reports in the web?
Do these two tools genereate pdf reports????
Please, I want to know your opinion about my problem.
    Thank you!!!

  • [Urgent] Some questions about Oracle Portal 10g - 11g upgrade

    Dear friends,
We are under doing upgrading assessment of Oracle Portal from 10g to 11g. After reviewed the 'upgrading guide', we still have some questions as below:
    1. Whether the 'Instant Portal' feature remain in Oracle Portal 11g? If yes, how to migrate the Instant Portal 10g sites? If no, any workaround?
    2. Whether the old 10g Page Group and Pages will be still available after 11g upgrade? Also can customer import the old 10g transportset into Portal 11g?
    3. How about the customized Portal 10g objects (such as customized template, style, attributes) after 11g upgrade? Still be usable?
    4. Customer use PDK to develop many portlets in 10g. Can they use JDeveloper 11g to migrate their old project to 11g automatically?
Thank you in advance and any comment are welcome.

    1. Whether the 'Instant Portal' feature remain in Oracle Portal 11g? If yes, how to migrate the Instant Portal 10g sites? If no, any workaround?Instant Portal is not available anymore in Oracle Portal 11g. The Instant Portal page groups will be migrated to standard Portal page groups. Maintenance of the Instant Portal can be done with the standard Portal tools. The Instant Portal tools are not available anymore.
Whether the old 10g Page Group and Pages will be still available after 11g upgrade? Also can customer import the old 10g transportset into Portal 11g?Old 10g Page Groups are migrated to Portal 11g. They will still be available after the upgrade.
Export/Import through transports sets has always been limited to instances of the same version. It is not supported between versions as documented in the Administration Guide :
    [11.2.1|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/portal.1111/e10239/cg_imex.htm#CCJBCCGD] System Requirements
Before exporting and importing content, ensure that your system meets the minimum system requirements, as described in this section.
    Notes:
    * Export and import functions only within the same release of Oracle Portal and the same patch release, for example, release 10.1.4 to release 10.1.4 or release 11.1.1 to release 11.1.1. You cannot export and import between two different releases, such as release 10.1.2 to release 10.1.4 or release 10.1.4 to release 11.1.1.
How about the customized Portal 10g objects (such as customized template, style, attributes) after 11g upgrade? Still be usable?Customized objects get migrated as well. Certain types (e.g. PL/SQL item types) need to be checked after upgrade as the behavior of the PL/SQL code may differ between database versions. This is particularly of concern when the 10.1.4.x Portal uses a 10.1 database. A database upgrade to either 10.2, 11.1 or 11.2 is necessary as Portal 11g is not supported with RDBMS 10.1.
Customer use PDK to develop many portlets in 10g. Can they use JDeveloper 11g to migrate their old project to 11g automatically?Never done this, but the Portal framework is able to consume JPDK providers which are running in older versions of the toolkit. If the providers are running in standalone OC4J containers, you would be able to upgrade the framework and keep the providers in their OC4J containers. This will allow you to focus on the framework first and worry about your providers later.

  • Future of Oracle Portal

Anybody knows about the future of Oracle Portal.
    Will WebLogic Portal replace it?

    Hi,
    1)
WebLogic is not similar product as OAS Portal. WL provides a J2EE framework and requires strong Java developer skills. You create portals similar as you would do in WebCEnter, using IDE. In WL case that is BEA's version of Eclipse, in OWC case that is JDeveloper. BTW, WL runs only on WebLogic Server (currently).
It is expected for WL and OWC to converge in the few next releases.
    2)
Of course itis possible to migrate from OAS Portal to Web Center - via via JSF Portlet Bridge.
    3)
BEA has another product called AquLogic User Interaction (ex Plumtree portal). That is declarative portal, that is simmilar in a way to OAS Portal. Of course, it does not support PL/SQL, but it can run on different servers. Anyway, that is an advanced declarative portal product. It is going to be rebranded as Oracle's prpoduct, and become part of OWC suite (together with OC Framework, OWC services etc).
    4)
OAS Portal will remain DB centric, declarative environment that is running on iAS EE and most probably WebLogic Server. In release 11 it will include some Web2.0 services/features.
    Cheers,
    Nenad
