Oracle position on OAS 4.0.7 and recent kernels

From reading the threads in this discussion, it is blatantly clear the the Oracle Application Server 4.0.7 doesn't work on recent Redhat 6.1 or SuSe 6.3 kernels. In particular, the ORB cannot be successfully started with the owsctl start command. The resultant "ORB is not responding. Please restart manually..." message is not particularly helpful. The owsctl stop command fails when it uses no longer supported arguments to the ps command. Attempts to start the ORB from the graphical interface are equally fruitless. Additionally, a non-OFA install is destined to fail with subtle "file not found" errors or just plain hangs.
It pretty clear that OAS 4.0.7 doesn't work with recent linux kernels. Can someone in Oracle address this situation and give the linux community some direction and guidance in installating and running OAS?

Manohar,
If you are, or want to, use the cartridge implementation then you
are constrained by the certification:
Developer 2.1 - Web App Server 3.0.x
Developer 6.0 - Oracle App Server 4.0.7
However, if you are not using the cartridge implementation, then
you can use WAS 3.0.x or OAS 4, since you are only using the
listener component in that case.

  • Developer 6.0, OAS 4.0.8 and Oracle 8i

I have just installed Oracle 8i, Developer 6.0 and OAS 4.0.8 into our Windows NT 4 test box. I installed the three components on different ORACLE_HOMEs. I am having some difficulties in deploying the demos on the web. I used the static.html and I all I get is a "Oracle JInitiator: applet oracle.forms.engine.main inited" message.
According to the OAS 4.0.8 release notes, OAS 4.0.8 should be installed on a seperate NT machine if you are using Oracle 8i. The Developer 6.0 release notes recommends to use Oracle 8.0.5 and OAS 4.0.7.
Do I really have to follow the release notes? Is it possible to setup Oracle 8i, OAS 4.0.8 and Developer 6.0 on the same NT machine? If it is possible, will it work?
    Thank you in advance.

    Ganesh,
The port that I use to create a new listener is not being used by another process. After creating the new listener the wrb.log is empty and the new listener doesn't have a .err log. The NT event log message is :
'The description for Event ID (0) in Source (Oracle Web Listener Administrator) could not be found. It contains the ff. insertion string(s): Unable to open service, due to system error 1060.'

  • OAS 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 on same server

Could I run OAS 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 the same time on the same Sun Solaris box (different ports of course)?
    Thanks

    Yes to both questions.
Refer to the Upgrade and Compatibility Guide for your 10.1.3.x release.

  • Using "Oracle Positional" as Binding Style  for VO

    Hi,
I have create a VO using Binding Style as "Oracle Positional". The query I have given as..
"select <All Column names> from Emp where deptNo = :1"
I have drag and drop the datacontrol related to this VO on JSP page.
Now the main issue is, "How to pass the default value for where condition when the page loads"?
can I add some thing in PageDef file to pass this data.
    Thanks...
    Sree

    Two options:
    1. You can define the default value at the view object layer in the binding parameter section.
    2. If this is page specific then you can define it in the pagedef.xml file - look for the variableUsage tag under the executables section and set the DefaultValue property.

storage and indexing options and provides guidelines on when each should be considered. After establishing a framework for deciding how to
store XML, the presentation considers the options available for indexing XML to ensure optimal performance of an XML-based application.
The session also discusses how standard techniques such as partitioning and using parallel data manipulation language (PDML) can be used to
scale XML processing on extremely large volumes of XML content and how Oracle XML DB can leverage the intelligent storage capabilities of
    Oracle Exadata.

  • Oracle Enterprise Server 8i 8.1.7 and HP Proliant ML350 G3

I would like if it has any clarification regarding the compatibility problem between Oracle Enterprise Server 8i 8.1.7 and HP Proliant ML350 G3 Server. I cann't proceed with the installation of Oracle Enterprise Server 8i 8.1.7 on that machine whilst the process just stop at first logo. When I'm using Oracle Enterprise Server 9i 9.1 version, the installation process can proceed successfully. But, my customer (own Oracle Enterprise Server 8i 8.1.7) requires to install Oracle 8i 8.1.7 not Oracle 9i 9.1 version.
So, please someone help me to rectify that problem !!!!!

Can it be installed? It probably can be (assuming we're talking XP Professional).
Is it certified? On the main OTN page, under "Get Support" is the certification & availability matrix. Following that down, you'll find that the Oracle client was certified on 8.1.7, subject to the application of a number of patchsets, but that the Oracle database was not. Windows 2000 was the latest flavor of Windows that was certified with the 8.1.7 database.

When working with mixed environments you should make sure the path environment variable is consistent with the executables you are currently running, and try not to mix them, i.e. if you are working with the sqlplus from 9i, make sure you execute the sqlplus.exe file from the 9i oracle home and temporarily by means of a batch file put your Oracle Home 9i executables prior to those of 10g , and the other way around, when executing from the 10g make sure all executables and paths are consistent. It should be easier since when installing oracle, oracle configures the PATH environment variable so it can be seen first in the path environment variable.
In your case you are using two compatible versions, but if the dll's get mixed there could be unexpected results.

    Ravi,
I believe you need to have SOA configured with EBS to run those webservices.
Please log a SR to confirm the same with Oracle support.

Is there a way, or does Adobe have a product or solution, to create a PDF version of the document including the barcode, before it’s sent to a printer?

What format is the document that is printed? Or what technology is used to format the printer? There isn't a standard way of doing things in Unix.
