Oracle Possibly Hanging?

Okay so my company collections information for wells. Long story short we sometimes stop collecting information from some of them however oracle still seems to be functioning AFAIK... i'm just wondering if oracles size and the fact its using a lot of memory...?
I dunno heres a screenie of the size of everything. It can run slow at times but is it unusual? Currently we are using 144mb of memory just for oracle.
http://img209.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oraclesizeyc7.jpg
What anyone think?

k i will have to wait until it stops next which might be tomorrow. I am just mainly checking to rule out oracle.
We bring information in through a 1X modem. I'm sure it's not a comm error as we have a program that collects the information and it seems to work but there are like 6-8 wells at first that don't collect info then it slowly goes up.
Also here are the file sizes i will type them out cause photoshack sucks...

Oracle Installer hangs at 18% on a file naeet.o
    installer also show.. link pending..
machine is 64 bit. with OEL4 64 bit
    i have oracle 9i R2 64 bit...which i am trying to install...
i've installed all the required rpms as described in Oracle-base .
    Plz help.

Step by Step Installation 9.2.0.4 on EL5.5.
    1. Make sure Java libraries are up to date.. (sysad side..)
    2. Do not start installation from the 9204 base installation- Oracle Universal Installer has problem
2.1 Install first the OUI "only" from the 9206 patchset (p3948480_9206_Linux-x86-64.zip)
using the Oracle_Home youve just decided. While running runinstaller from 9206, choose second option thats for OUI Installation. Once installation is done check under Oracle 9i Home you would see /product/9204/oui/oraparam.ini and /product/9204/oui/bin/runInstaller. If you dont find /product/9204/oui/bin/runInstaller. You may have to rerun the runinstaller from 9206.
2.2 In ../Disk1/install/oraparam.ini edit the Linux value under [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-2.1AS,redhat-2.1,redhat-3,redhat-4,redhat-5,UnitedLinux-1.0,SuSE-9,SuSE-
    * value must include redhat-5 inorder to suppress the error message for OS version incompat.
2.3 After completion of OUI install, edit again ../product/9204/oui/oraparam.ini as instructed
    in step 2.2
2.4 Now install the 9204 base using the OUI from 9206. Run ../product/9204/oui/bin/runInstaller BUT
this time, select the "products.jar" from 9204 base installation set.
    (ex: /u01/app/oracle/Disk1/stage/products.jar)
2.5 From here u should be able to install the SOFTWARE ONLY option. DO NOT create a database yet.
    3. Patch the 9204 base with the 9207 patchset (p4163445_92070_Linux-x86-64.zip)
3.1 After decompressing contents, repeat step 2.2 again to suppress OS version incompat.
3.2 Now proceed with the patch application
    4. You can now create a database using the "dbca" utility.

  • Oracle session Hangs while calling one package function

    Hi all,
We are a facing a interesting scenario in our code. Consider that you have 2 pakcages(A,B). Ecah packages is having more than 5 functions in it.
    1. A.function1() makes a call to B.function1() - is working fine
    2 .B.function1() calls B.function2() - is working fine
    3. B.function2() calls A.function2() - oracle session hangs in this call.
If I copy the scropt code from A.function2() and inline (put) it in B.function1() , the execution gets completed without an issue.
If i run the A.function2() seperatly it works fine. Only calling from B package it is failing.
If anyone knows the rooot cause of the issue, please let me know.
    Thanks and regards,
    Vijayaraja

    Do you have/use global variables?
Moving code from one package to another doesn’t necessarily result in logically equivalent programs. In the version of your program which “hangs” you may have crafted an infinite loop. Instrument your code and see if you really stall or just keep going on forever.
With this kind of cross-dependencies in your libraries you almost ask for trouble.

  • Creation of Oracle model hanging MS SQL 7- 8.1.6

Had a question answered yesterday which has got me almost there, for which thank you. Creating the Oracle model now maps almost all the objects in my SQL Server database (apart from a few roles, triggers and stored procedures), up to the point where the log window shows:
[Timestamp] Mapping Roles mapped: 7, Roles NOT Mapped: 3
    [Timestamp] Mapping Mapping User Privileges
[Timestamp] Mapping mapped user privilege :
[Timestamp] Mapping mapped user privilege :
[Timestamp] Mapping mapped user privilege :
The process then hangs (it's been 21 hours now). Any ideas?
    Scott Doughty

Your topic title, "Creation of Oracle model hanging MS SQL 7->8.1.6", caught my eye, but our situations aren't exact.
Workbench is hanging on me during the Oracle Model creation when it gets to "Mapping tables". I also waited about 24 hours without any results.
Do you have any insight to my problem?

  • Oracle Agent hangs up

    Hi all,
Oracle runs on a UNIX machine. And it always occurs that the Oracle Agent hangs up, occupies 49% CPU and leaves themselves, only over Services to stop. No error message, anything does not come. How can I solve this problem?

  • SLES 8 running Oracle 9 hangs

I have Suse Linux Enterprise Server 8 on an IBM X225 server, model 8649, with two Pentium 4 Xeon processors, 1 GB memory, running Oracle 9.2.0.4. The OS has been kept up to date with patches via YOU. The system will hang from time to time with no warning, and nothing out of the ordinary written to /var/log/messages. I cannot even login at the console. It is completely frozen, and unfortunately seems to be random. It will be fine for a couple of days, and then it may lock up for two, three, four days straight. It usually has to be physically powered down and then back up to 'resolve' the issue. We have replaced both processors, the motherboard, all of the memory, and the video card, and still no luck. IBM says that with all the new components installed, it HAS to be a software issue. Any ideas?

I have similar situation: IBM xSeries 235 Type 8671, 2xXeon 3GHz, 2GB RAM, 6xSCSI HDD, etc; system is Linux Fedora Core 2 & Oracle 9.2.0.4. It works very well, no errors, no warnings, wonderful performance, but it falls 3..5 times a week (4 days without a crash is my best achievement).
I've downloaded and installed all firmware/bios upgrades available at their site, but it looks like the "reset" button is the only remedy for this server. Local TechSupport has unbreakable defence: this server, they say, has advanced built-in diagnostic (service processor, etc), so, any hardware problem would be located immediately; thus, the problem is Linux, don't use Fedora Core 2, don't use kernel 2.6.9, buy enterprise version (RHEL, SLES) and everything will be OK.
The fact is, I'm not sure enterprise Linux will change the situation. Choosing Fedora Core 2, I was ready to error messages, segmentation faults, problems with libraries. Instead, there is Oracle running smoothly, and Linux regularly throwing black screen, or, sometimes, Machine Check Exception, CPU Context Corrupt and other awful messages.
Without Oracle (or with Oracle and 3..4 users) system may work 2 weeks or more. So, it looks like Oracle is guilty. But I'd rather relate the problem to intensive memory and network usage, when 50 users work with database.
IBM web site contains contradictory information. It looks like there were problems (sudden crashes, reboots) with IBM xSeries Servers having Xeon and 533MHz FSB (no matter what OS). They've promised to repair it with BIOS update at the 3rd quarter (this year?). But the last BIOS update (1.13) is of 22-Jun-2004. Is this the one or not? I don't know. And after a month of fight with this server I still cannot deside: is this hardware or software problem? And what to do? Move to RH9? To Windows?
And above all, is that possible, that user mode application kills operating system like Linux? I accept, it can overload, slow down, cause denial of service.
But kernel panic, MCE, or just black screen...

  • Install Oracle 9i Hangs on Linux SMP Redhat 7.1

I posted this message to the General forum but without any reply. So I repost it here.

I install Oracle 9i on my dual AMD Duron machine. It hangs. If

  • Xraid + Oracle = Database hang?

    Heya all.
    Oracle 9i (9.2.0.8), Solaris 10.
I had a queer problem yesterday. I needed to recover a tablespace, and the only thing we had around with enough diskspace was an xraid. Apparently these are ok to use, so we mounted it up over nfs, jumbo frames on both sides, and copied a backup of my database onto it.
Problem was, starting up oracle, when attempting to mount the database, it would just hang.
It looked like ckpt was getting stuck trying to access the control file.
    # ps -ef | grep BACK | grep ckpt
    oracle 4721 1 0 16:20:52 ? 0:00 ora_ckpt_BACK
    # truss -p 4721
    *** SUID: ruid/euid/suid = 101 / 5011 / 5011 ***
    *** SGID: rgid/egid/sgid = 1 / 7002 / 7002 ***
    semtimedop(32, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1DC, 1, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1C8) Err#11 EAGAIN
    semtimedop(32, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1DC, 1, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1C8) (sleeping...)
    semtimedop(32, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1DC, 1, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1C8) Err#11 EAGAIN
    semtimedop(32, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1DC, 1, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1C8) (sleeping...)
    semtimedop(32, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1DC, 1, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1C8) Err#11 EAGAIN
    semtimedop(32, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1DC, 1, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1C8) (sleeping...)
eventually an error would be generated by oracle,
    ksedmp: internal or fatal error
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [2116], [900], [], [], [], [], [], []
but the sqlplus session mounting the database would just hang.
I moved the control files off the xraid onto local disks, and the database would then mount, proving that its something weird with the xraid, but then it would get stuck on the datafiles, moved them off (had to dump alot of tablespaces to get it to fit onto local disks), then it would get stuck on redo.. moved redo off onto local disks, and it all worked..
Oracle support seemed to think it was an issue with resources, and suggested adding more swap.
The oracle user could create files fine. I /think/ it was just having problems locking them. I tried restarting lockd, restarting the server, adjusting (solaris) shared memory settings, shutting down other oracle instances on the machine, adding swap. nothing seemed to work, expect getting the files off that nfs mount.
Has anyone see this kind of behavior with nfs mounted disks, specifically from an xraid? Due to the cost, I'd really like to start using xraids for some cheap oracle disks, but this experiment doesn't make it look good.
    thanks.

it was a temporary mount, in what way doesn't it work? As I described?
I'm not too worried about working through it with support at the moment ( time is not something I have alot of at the moment ), I accomplished what I needed to do at the time, but in the long run, being able to use xraids would be very nice.

  • Oracle Report Hang with error on 11g.

    Dear Team,
    I have following setup:-
We are using oracle database 11g R2
    Oracle Forms & reports : 11.1.2
    O.S : Windows 7 Professional
When I log in to forms, I am able to log in successfully, after that when i run the report from forms 11g, i receive the below error in web logic server.
    <Alert> <Diagnostics> <BEA-320016> <Creating diagnostic image in d:\oracle\middleware\user_projects\domains\classicdomain\servers\adminserver\adr\diag\ofm\classicdomain\adminserver\incident\incdir_27 with a lockout minute period of 1>
Reports were running fine till today, but only recently i made one change in rwserver.conf, i changed maxengine = 2 there.
Secondly I setup xampp apache server and gave a path in windows folder to instantclient for successfully connecting with php.
Please let me know is the error coming because of the 2 changes or either of the changes. Or else, please let me know any workaround to avoid this error.
    Thank you in advance.

    Thanks Roberto for your reply.
Now Reports were running fine, I removed xampp apache server path from windows folder and put same path at the end of oracle configuration path separated by semicolon.
whenever I made some changes in configuration file weblogic server hangs up and it doesn't allow to run report on web while in report builder it works fine.
What is the reason behind it, is there any permenent solution to this problem.

  • Runinstaller (oracle database) hangs the zone and global zone

We have recently installed a Solaris 10 (Oracle Solaris 10 8/11 s10s_u10wos_17b SPARC) on the SPARC T4 and create two zones out of it.
We tried to install oracle database on the zone by running the installer (tried xclock and it works very well so display is not a problem).
Not only the zone was hang the entire Global zone SPARC server was hang and the only way to bring the system back is to power on and off it.

    Hi,
Please can you confirm, is it a standalone DB that you are trying to install..
If yes, What is the DB version?
The error message is simply unable to obtain the xfont. This link might help you:

  • Oracle Developer hangs when starting...i'm desperate

On my workstation (Win2k P4 with 512MB RAM) i have first installed Oracle9i db (Personal Edition) in oracle_home OraHome92.
Thereafter i installed Oracle9iDS Release 2 in a separate oracle home IDSHome.
When installing Oracle products i have put IIS in disabled mode.
Now when i launch from the menu:
Oracle9i Developer Suite -> Reports Developer -> Reports Builder the Oracle9i Reports Developer splash screen launches but remains there without
    getting the application.
I already re-installed on a fresh installed machine, but the result remains the same splash screen hangs!
Anyone an idea what goes wrong here?
    Thanks.
    Guy

1)In $OH\bin there is a file called oracle.key. Open it and see the entry there. The entry there should match the oracle home in registry ( HKLM\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\<yourHome> )
2)One more thing you can do is see whether there is any XML syntax error in $OH\reports\conf\rwbuilder.conf. That is see whether you have missed closing any tag. You can use an XML validating editor to see whether there are any errors. In you r case since this is a fresh installation this is unlikely, but you can just check
    3)In HKLM\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\<yourHome>\
see whether REPORTS_TMP points to a valid directory.
    Hope this helps
    Thanks

  • Oracle binaries hanging

I've installed Oracle Client 10GR2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 2).
But oracle binaries like sqlplus, imp, exp are hanging.
I've set ORACLE_HOME correctly. I've tried running sqlplus -VERBOSE but this hangs as well.
Any idea what could be the problem?

Am running Oracle 10GR2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 5).
No problems with connectivity. Database instance is running fine and so are the client binaries.
There were some issues like installing/enabling kernel async_io - but these would only be applicable if you're trying to run an Oracle instance.
Are you connecting to a local instance, or are you using a network connection?
If a local connection, SQL*Plus will (via OCI) launch an oracle process from $ORACLE_HOME/bin and attached itself to it. That process will be the dedicated server process for SQL*Plus.
If a network connection, SQL*Plus will open a tcp connection (via OCI) to the Oracle server platform.
Obviously, "hanging" when connecting means a very different software layer for each.
You will need to supply some more detail. A copy and paste of the actual ssh/telnet session that hangs, the environment settings (ORACLE_HOME, TNS_ADMIN, ORACLE_SID, etc), and details of the type of connection (if a network connection, the TNS alias definition), and so on.

  • Oracle Drive hanging

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I'm not getting any luck anywhere else !
I have been using Oracle Drive to connect to Oracle Files Online (files.oraclecorp.com) and map a Windows drive to a shared folder. This has worked very well until about a month ago. Now when I try to "Work Online" Oracle Drive prompts for the password then just displays the "Connecting to the remote host" and never completes.
    Things I have tried:
    1) Installed the latest version (I now have 10.2.0.0.12 WinXP)
    2) Changed my SSO password
    3) Tried redefining the connection in Oracle Drive
    4) Tried connecting to other WebDav servers (I tried iprojects-files and stcontent)
    None of these things worked.
I am running Windows XP SP3. Could this have anything to do with the SP3 upgrade ?
Please can someone help me, I miss Oracle Drive !
    Regards
    Martin
