Oracle R12.1 Install on OEL 4.5
I have successfully installed an R12.1 Vision instance on a laptop running OEL 4.5 (the server.) I can bring up the Apps home page on the server itself and access the Oracle Applications Manager pages. I can connect to the database using SQL Developer and SQL*Plus from an XP client laptop but I cannot connect to the Apps home page with a web browser - I tried IE and Firefox.
Actual Message from Firefox:
"Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at m4300.vistech.com:8000."
I can successfully ping the URL from the XP machine.
I would appreciate any ideas or advice regarding this matter.
Thanks!
Hi,
"Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at m4300.vistech.com:8000."What version of Firefox?
Firefox 3.6 Certified with Oracle E-Business Suite
http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2010/01/firefox_36_ebs.html
Can you reproduce the issue from adifferent machine and/or using a different browser (IE)?
Do you have proper entry in the hosts file?
I can successfully ping the URL from the XP machine.
I would appreciate any ideas or advice regarding this matter. What if you type the application IP Address in the URL, can you see the main login page then?
Also, see if any errors are reported in apache log files.
I assume that the installation was completed successfully, if not run AutoConfig and check again.

Hussein

Oracle-Validated RPM install on OEL 4.5 x64
I've had problems trying to install the Oracle-Validated RPM on OEL 4.5 x64. Up2Date would hang. Anyone else try using the RPM on OEL 4.5?
Sergio,
I reran the commands today and they work fine. It must have been a glitch in the network. Thanks.
Any word on the update of the RPM for OEL 5.0? Is this going to be released to the Open Source or is this specific for OEL? I wanted to start using this on RHEL and Centos. -

ThilinaHi Thilina,
Please confirm you have installed all the rpms mentioned as per the notes provided by Hussein. Please verify whether you have installed all the rpms mentioned in the per-requisite setup by command:
rpm -qa | grep <rpm_name>*
In addition, please upgrade your rapidwiz when installing especially on OEL 6 as most of the issues are addressed in the latest rapidwiz and perform a fresh installation.:
https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/new_rapid_install_startcd_12
Please also provide the output of:
find / -name libclntsh* (as root user)
A workaround is mentioned in this site, Please check whether this helps you and let us know:

Due to some storage problem , we are not getting SAN for the Installation of Oracle R12 E Business Suite. Can we go with NAS storage for R12 database installation ?
if NAS is supported by Oracle , why not
maybe it is safier to ask Oracle support ;
also, for more accurate answers, try to post under the E-business forum in Grid Computing -

Partitioning Advice For E-business R12 Vision Install Using OEL6
Hi,
I am planning to do a fresh install of OEL to use as Oracle R12 test bed with Vision demo database.
Not planning to dual boot. OEL will be the only OS used.
Unfortunately, after spending the past few days I still couldn't determine the optimal partition scheme for my install.
I have a desktop system with the following configuration:
I5-3570K
128GB SSD
750GB HDD
8GB RAM
I'm relatively new to Linux and as such do not understand much in terms of the partition scheme.
Awaiting your responses.
Best Regards.A SSD drive is not bound to the same physical aspects and performance limitations like a conventional hard disk. However, it's news to me that you cannot or should not partition a SSD drive. Where did you see this information?
You can create a /var and /tmp partition, but I any unnecessary partition will complicate your setup for no good reason. You can also create a swapfile and thereby increase your swap space on demand if necessary, instead of using a fixed swap partition. Why do you think installing a /var and /tmp partition will make any difference for your self-study environment?
Your /boot partition needs to be on the startup drive, e.g. SSD drive. Your root (/) partition can be anywhere else, provided it can be accessed. Why would you use the SSD drive for root and put /var and /tmp on HDD? I can't see how +/- a couple of GB will make any difference on your SSD drive.
If you need advice about the setup of Oracle EBS you better post your question in the appropriate Oracle EBS forum. Regarding the OS and general database configuration, my previous response still applies.

Oracle R12 EBS installation on CentOS Linux 5
Per MOS Note 761566.1 , I am installing Oracle 12.1.1 EBS on CentOS 5.5 Linux 64 bit servers. Issue is that I cannot find the packages listed below which are required for 64 Bit Linux installation with Oracle R12 EBS:
The following packages must be installed from the OEL 5 or RHEL 5 distribution media:
gcc-4.1.2-14.el5.x86_64
gcc-c++-4.1.2-14.el5.x86_64

libXp-1.0.0-8.1.el5.i386

compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-138.i386

Additionally, the following RPMs are required for an 11gR1 Database (which is bundled with the 12.1.1 release) on the database tier:
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61.x86_64
elfutils-libelf-devel-0.125-3.el5.x86_64

unixODBC-devel-2.2.11-7.1.x86_64
kernel-headers-2.6.18-8.el5.x86_64
I cannot find these at the http://oss.oracle.com/projects/compat-oracle/files/Enterprise_Linux
site for CentOS 5.5 and they are not at the CentOS site either.
Any ideas where to obtain these required Linux packages for CentOS 5.5?
Thanks!
BenBen,
CentOS is not certified as a database/application tier node.
You can find the packages from the Media Pack (Download it from e-Delivery website), or just search Google (below is an example):
Download compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61.x86_64

Plz suggest How configure oracle R12 with RAC using both system .If you want to configure RAC, then you must have the same OS installed on all RAC nodes -- See (RAC: Frequently Asked Questions [ID 220970.1], Does Oracle Clusterware or Oracle Real Application Clusters support heterogeneous platforms?) for details.
Once you have the same OS, please refer to:

Can't Ping, SSH or HTTP to my Oracle Enterprise Linux install
Hi All,
I've got a 'brandnew' install of OEL running GridControl 10.2.0.3.
I've attempted to ping my new system and I get :
matt@Brutus:~$ ping stimpy
PING stimpy.us.oracle.com (192.168.0.4) 56(84) bytes of data.
From Brutus.local (192.168.0.10) icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
From Brutus.local (192.168.0.10) icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable
From Brutus.local (192.168.0.10) icmp_seq=4 Destination Host Unreachable
And I've attempted to connect to the GridControl website and I get:
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at stimpy.us.oracle.com:4889
I've disabled all the SELinux stuff but I still can not ssh, ping, etc...
Does OEL have any additional security lockdown measures that I can 'tweak' and disable?
Thanks,

Oracle R12 on Windows Server 2008
Hi - does anyone have a good guide or link to a site that does a walk through of installing Oracle R12 on Windows Server 2008?
Thanks!Hi,
Thanks for the guide, anyone with experience in Windows, do you know if the Server goes to sleep, that once it is woken up, that the R12 instance would work fine? I think the application will not be accessible when the server does to sleep.
I would ideally like to let the Server go to "Sleep" when not in use. Once a user wants to test something, they can wake it up using WOL, then login to the instance.What is the point of letting the server goes to sleep? I would say that you may need to bounce some services then which is not a feasible solution -- You may verify this and try it yourself.
