  • SAP and BOBJ XI 3.x Integrated Security Best Practice

I am trying to find any information around SAP and BOBJ XI 3.x Integrated Security Best Practice.
So far i think it is uninversally agred that you should :
    1. Utilise the Business Objects platform security model to secure applications, folders and reports.
    2. Use BEx queries as the data source for Business Objects Universes and keep the number BEx queries to a minimum
    3. Use SAP authorisations over the BEx queries to secure report data at a row level.
Has anyone seen any formal SAP Best Practice document or have any info to add ?
    Andrew

    Hi,
those three items are all correct. In terms of security you can find lots of material in the standard BW help.
in terms of query design / universe:

  • SAP SCM and SAP APO: Best practices, tips and recommendations

    Hi,
I have been gathering useful information about SAP SCM and SAP APO (e.g., advanced supply chain planning, master data and transaction data for advanced planning, demand planning, cross-plant planning, production planning and detailed scheduling, deployment, global available-to-promise (global ATP), CIF (core interface), SAP APO DP planning tools (macros, statistical forecasting, lifecycle planning, data realignment, data upload into the planning area, mass processing u2013 background jobs, process chains, aggregation and disaggregation), and PP/DS heuristics for production planning).
I am especially interested about best practices, tips and recommendations for using and developing SAP SCM and SAP APO. For example, [CIF Tips and Tricks Version 3.1.1|https://service.sap.com/form/sapnet?_FRAME=CONTAINER&_OBJECT=011000358700006480652001E] and [CIF Tips and Tricks Version 4.0|https://service.sap.com/form/sapnet?_FRAME=CONTAINER&_OBJECT=011000358700000596412005E] contain pretty useful knowledge about CIF.
If you know any useful best practices, tips and recommendations for using and developing SAP SCM and SAP APO, I would appreciate if you could share those assets with me.
Thanks in advance of your help.
    Regards,
    Jarmo Tuominen

    Hi Jarmo,
Apart from what DB has suggested. you should give a good reading on the following.
-Consulting Notes (use the application component filters in search notes)
-Collective Notes (similar to the one above)
    -Release Notes
    -Release Restrictions
-If $$ permit subscribe to www.scmexpertonline.com. Good perspective on concepts around SAP SCM.
-There are a couple of blogs (e.g. www.apolemia.com) .. but all lack breadth.. some topics in depth.
-"Articles" section on this site (not all are classified well.. see in ECCops, mfg, SCM, Logistics etc)
-Serivce.sap.com- check the solution details overview in knowledge exchange tab. There are product presentations and collaterals for every release. Good breadth but no depth.
-Building Blocks - available for all application areas. This is limited to vanilla configuration of just making a process work and nothing more than that.
-Get the book "Sales and Operations Planning with SAP APO" by SAP Press. Its got plenty of  easy to follow stuff, good perspective and lots of screen shots to make life easier.
-help.sap.com the last thing that most refer after all "handy" options (incl. this forum) are exhausted. Nevertheless, this is the superset of all "secondary" documents. But the maze of hyperlinks that start at APO might lead you to something like xml schema.
Key Tip: Appreciate that SAP SCM is largely driven by connected execution systems (SAP ECC/ERP). So the best place to start with should be a good overview of ERP OPS solution overview, at least at the significant level of depth.). Check this document at sdn wiki "ERP ops architecture overview".
I have some good collection of documents though many i havent read myself. If you need them let me know.

  • Integrated Planning Best Practices

    Folks -
Does anyone have or know if there is a SAP BEst Practices White Paper, addressing Modelling, Planning Objects, and other design considerations, etc..for Integrated Planning
I am not looking to install SAP Best Practices buidling blocks etc.
All I am looking for is a white paper.
    Will reward of course.

    Hi Abhi,
BI Integrated Planning is still too new. However, you can take the lessons learned and best practices for BW (data modeling) and for BPS (planning models) which also apply for BI-IP in a very similar way.

  • Oracle HTTP Server as web tier for OBIEE - Best Practices?

    Hi All,
A bit of a cross-topic issue - IHAC which wants to add a web tier (in a form of additional DMZ server with Oracle HTTP Server installed) to existing OBIEE installation.
Are there any best practices regarding all the security aspects - installations, ports, SSL, certificates, keystores etc. ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Roman

Am not using weblogic, I'm doing standalone setup
    Standalone:
FMW 11g Web-Tier products are configured without a domain and administered from the command line. In this case, be sure to UN-check the selection for “Associate to WebLogic Domain” during the installation prompts and uncheck the web cache.. Only OHS is installed.
Is it possible to install sun jdk 64 bit on AIX 7.1 machine.. ?

  • Oracle - SharePoint 2010 Integration Recommendations/Best Practice

    Hi,
The client has running oracle based application wherein :-
    1) A SQL query is fired to a view
    2) The view actually queries different tables (count=10) and fetches the data of different columns.
    3) In front-end , custom forms are created using OAF which shows the data of of the required columns in a grid-view (search results).
The oracle version used is “Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production”
The above scenario needs to be implemented in SharePoint 2010. I thought of below mentioned design scenarios in SharePoint 2010 :-
Creating a BDC model to integrate Oracle tables (10) data in SharePoint i.e. creating 10 external lists, storing the data in SP and in front-end using .Net C# coding ,using SP queries for diff lists to manipulate
the data and show in grid format. Even if we start full crawl , data will be indexed & crawled but since search is based on different filters/parameters , hence query-based search will be required. How to make query in diff lists in SP for a Search parameter
Directly querying the Oracle DB using BCS
without storing the data in SP – Creating  .Net forms  - Is it possible ? In this case , each time a query will be fired for each and every search - Performance Hit ?? !!
Pure .Net – Reading data from Oracle DB using Oracle Data Provider for .Net C# & using SharePoint as an interface – How security will be managed and how much valid this solution is ?
Third Party Tools (Telerik Web-parts & ORM) – Whether it can be used for the requirements ?
Kindly share your valuable thoughts and ideas and let me know the recommended design for this scenario !!!!
    Vipul Jain

I'd go for building a SharePoint application page or a web part that uses .NET leveraging the Oracle data provider to query Oracle. BCS is great for indexing the info and you can still do that as well, but the UI will look like a SharePoint list and it
sounds as though that's not what you're after.

  • Primary key, column, sequence : best practice.

Hi I was wondering when designing table should you limit the length of primary key.
Because if you have limited column length, and your adding and removing items than you have sequence gap, than you will need to resize column length and if their foreign key (resize them in foreign key relationship too) or you need to reset sequence to go back to the maximum (id).
WHat are the benefits and disbenefits of having limited column length. Is their way to restrict the maximum number of items without putting column length in their (inside the database) not the application.
    Thanks.

Unless you know the exact number of rows your table will have, it is not convenient to limit the size. Now it all depend on what you mean by limiting the size and which column type you are talking about.
Here I have some notes about --> Why is Varchar2 oversizing bad?, where I state this:
Apparently the same space consumption would be the same if a Varchar2(4) is used versus a Varchar2(4000), if you require one byte, then one byte will be allocated, and performance should be the same, but when taking a look at the performance statistics there are some surprises that arise.
When fetching information from Oracle, buffers and fetching structures are being prepared beforehand to be able to manage the maximum column lenght, applications such as toad may run out of memory trying to allocate resources to retrieve the information from an unnecessarily over sized varchar2 column.
The answer to your case is: you should better plan according to your actual requirements, if you oversize columns you will degrade performance and you will have memory issues on the long run. If you under size then you will have problems with maximum capacity in your tables and you will be forced to -most probably- perform online maintenance to your objects to resize them.

  • Best practice on integration message augmentation via user exit or rfc call

I am looking for documentation that would provide best practices on whether to use user exits to augment the data on an IDOC or to forward the standard SAP produced IDOC to PI where rfc calls are made to augment the data as required for the specific target system.
I am sure there are pros and cons for both solutions, but I am hesitant to use user exits since we now have moved the knowledge of what a target system wants from the integration layer to the source layer.  If a second target system comes along in the future, the user exit becomes more complicated with additional target specific requirements.
Any links to best practice documentation on this subject is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Steve,
Might be trying for solution for a long time, If i understood your question clear let me clarify you few points.
You are trying to access the bex query which is designed with the exit's in the background based on the logic and trying to call the entire dimensions and key-figures in a single connection. Then you are trying to map those data in the charts.
Steve, try to make more connections based upon the logic and split them. use the same query but split them by sales per customer group, sales per day, sales per week by making three different connections and try. You can merge the prompts from all connections.
    Hope this Helps!!!
Sorry if i misunderstood your question.

I have tried flushing the statistics as well as increasing the IntegrationPointGuaranteed RequestTimeout to 3000.
    But its not helping.
Only for the empty model the integration points get invoked explicity from the test view or the interactive integration map or through the web service. Once executed the batch job I just get a Timeout error.
When i try to set IntegrationPointGuaranteed RequestTimeout to 0 and invoke the integration point it hangs.
    Wat could be the issue/resolution?

Is my decision of going for Oracle R12 SCM - Order Management Training Viable or Should i go for SAP R/3 - SD Module Training.
Please do reply as this is very important for me.

    Hitesh
There are 100000s of institutes waiting there for customer like you !!!
If I am in your place, I will not go for something which is brand new area/ domain ot learn on.
You said you got 5 years of experience on project management, look for some products which enhances and takes advantage of your domain knowledge.
Possibly, Primavera suite of products? (again its Oracle only)
As far as Oracle ebiz is concerned, merely by training of one module will not give u a start in Oracle world straight away, unless you are very lucky in this resource densed world.

    Hi all,
I need to learn how to create interfaces in PL/SQL for Oracle R12 EBS Financials. I cannot find a good starting point for the documentation and examples to help me get started in this area. Would appreciate tips
    for this area.

    Hi,
What kind of interfaces you are planning to develop?
Oracle already provides list of APIs that can be used (in R12, it is responsibility).

    Oracle Integration Repository
    http://irep.oracle.com/index.html
