Oracle RAC 32bit Linux OS Linux 64bit OS
I'm currently in the process of testing a 2 node RAC configuration. Is it possible to have a Linux (SUSE 9) 32bit OS Node and Linux (SUSE 9) 64bit node in the same cluster?
Any help would be appreciated.
Hi,
At moment of instalation the OUI will copy the binaries to each node, it is not possible has different architecture on same cluster. Normally 64 bit systems can run 32 bit OS. If I had same problem, I would install 32 bit OS on each node.

How to install oracle rac on linux using virtualbox
Hi,
I have recently started working on oracle rac

I want to install grid infrastructure on linux running as a virtual machine
how can I install and configure it? Please help me .
can ubuntu work as a virtual machine for oracle rac?Hi,
I suggest you use Oracle Enterprise Linux on your lab. There are a lot of step-by-step guide to install RAC on OEL. A good example is by Tim Hall, search Google for "Tim Hall Oracle Database RAC Installation". -
Hi all,
I installed the instantclient on Linux 64 bit. I didn't find the sqlldr utility. Can anyone tell me what is the most simply way to get a sqlldr without installing a Oracle DB on linux 64bit?
Best regards,
Jonathan'sqlldr' is not part of any Instant Client package, so any workaround is not supported:

Oracle RAC Nodes getting reboot in case of preferred controller failed
When we are disconnecting both Fiber cable from preferred Controller A or plugging out Controller A card from Disk Array(IBM DS 4300), After 90 seconds both the servers are rebooting.
In this time complete RAC network is going out of service for approx 5 minutes. After reboot both servers are coming with both instances without any manual intervention
Its a critical issue for us because we are loosing High Availability, Let us know how we can resolve this critical issue.
Detail of Network:
1. Software- Oracle 10g Release2
2. OS- Redhat Linux 3 (Kernel Version-2.4.21-27.ELsmp)
3. Shared Storage- IBM DS 4300.
4. Multipathing Driver - RDAC (rdac-LINUX-09.00 A5.13)
4. Nodes- IBM 346
5. Databse on ASM
6. ASM,OCR & Voting Disk Preferred controller is A.
7. Hangcheck timer value is 210 seconds.
8. Both Server available with 2 HBA port . I HBA port is connected with Controller A and Seconfd HBA port is connected with Controller B of SAN Disk Array.
As per my understanding,
Voting disk resides in Disk Array and Controller A is preferred owner of Voting Disk LUN.. When i am disconnecting both fiber cable from preferred controller A , then Both Nodes Clusterware software trying to contact with Voting Disk, When they are unable to contact with Voting disk in specfic time period, they are going for reboot.
I tested Controller failure testing with Oracle RAC software as well without Oracle. Without Oracle its working fine and reason behind, in that time Disk Array is waiting for approx 300 seconds for changing preferred controlller from A to B.
But With Oracle, Clusterware Software reboot both nodes before Controller can shift from A to B.
So if i conclude, the tech who has good understanding of Oracle Clusterware on Linux OS & IBM RDAC multipath driver can help me.
when we install Oracle RAC on Linux, it is required to configure hangcheck timer.
Oracle recomends 180 second.
It means if one of node is hanging, then second node will wait for 180 seconds, if within 180 seconds ,it is not able to resolve this situation then it will reboot hung node.
I think Hangcheck timer configuration reuired only with Linux OS.
Configuration File
cat >> /etc/rc.d/rc.local << EOF
modprobe hangcheck-timer hangcheck_tick=15 hangcheck_margin=60Sorry
Hangcheck timer is
Configuration File
cat >> /etc/rc.d/rc.local << EOF

Installing R12 32bit on Linux 64bit
Hello,
I want to do some experimental installations and want to get some expert input if some one have already tried these.
1. I want to install R12 32bit application on Oracle Linux 64bit. Is this possible?
2. If above is possible then can I do a RAC installation of R12 32bit on same platform using Oracle clusterware 64bit?
Thanks in advance.Hi,
1. I want to install R12 32bit application on Oracle Linux 64bit. Is this possible? If your OS is 64-bit, you need to install the 64-bit version of the application. With 32-bit OS on x86-64 machine, you can install R12 32-bit.

A common issue on Linux (especially on Suse Linux) is related to library caching. First of all make sure you add the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to your listener.ora file to guarantee the correct libraries will be loaded. Your SID section will then look like:
(SID_DESC=
(SID_NAME=SQLDB)
(ORACLE_HOME=/app/oracle10g/product/10.2)

After changing the listener.ora file stop and start the listener.

Edited by: user1997872 on Jan 4, 2012 7:07 AMIt looks like you will have to uninstall "libaio1", but I don't know for sure and don't have Ubuntu 10.4 available right now to play with.
Sorry but the instructions are for Ubuntu 10.10, not 10.4, which is different.
If you need to install XE on Ubuntu, I'd rather suggest 11gR2 XE:

Oracle White Paper- Storage Option for RAC. on Linux
hi..
This in reference with White Paper.. Stotage Option for RAC on LINUX. Author- Umadevi Byrappa.
Which states on page 10: To Use NAS for RAC database file storage select the file system storage option in OUI. or the Clustered file system storage option in DBCA.
With which i disagree. File storage option of oracle 10g RAC only shows.
1. Clustered File system.
2. ASM
3. Raw Devices.
When i try to select Cfs and select the shared directory on NFS it says. < Directory_Name> is not a clustered file system or Shared on Both <Server_1> < Server_2>. and at this point of time i m stuck.
1. I dont want to use OCFS as its not supporting NAS.
2. Selecting CFS doesnt recognise mounted shared volume as valid storage device option can only store OCRfile and CSS file.
3. So, I have to use ASM.. with zero padded files..which i dont want to because no other option. ( PART NO. B10766-02 PAGE C-6)
Also, I would like oracle to provide Back up Recovery Option or Document which tells me how could i Recover Database when i use Zero Padded Files.
What would be the best Option in the above scenario ?
I hope by applying patch or with workaround somehow it shows Filesystem ONLY.I'll be the happiest man in this Case.
Any suggestions and corrections are most welcome. I wish i m wrong.
Nadeem ( [email protected] )NFS isn't a clustered file system at all - by RFC it is an exported file system with access controls
If your vendor offers an NFS solution over and beyond that - more power to them. However that isn't "NFS"..
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc3010.html
You can use NFS in a clustered server environment (to mount apps, read only data and for synchronous access to files), however it doesn't support the concurrency out of the box for RDBMS transactions - if a vendor is supporting this promise then that is for you to decide.
However i stand by my statement that NFS is a file system exported across your network and not a full clustered file system. -
Linux set up for Oracle RAC (real application cluster)
Hi Guys,
I m wrkig as Oracle DBA.
Very curious to know the initials for RAC set up at OS level.
Can anyone provide his/her usefull guidelines for the same.
Although I know all steps at OS level also, but didn't did the set up of before Oracle RAC installation.
Want to increase knowlegde on like:
--how we sahre storage.
--how we set up network (private & virtual IP) and how can check working of NIC's.
--and other required things.
Will appreciate ur help and if someone want to share his/her personal experience.
Thx in advance.[email protected] wrote:
Want to increase knowlegde on like:Here are very basic answers to very complex questions - from a pure Linux perspective running an Open Source stack and untainted kernel.
--how we sahre storage.Using multipath - this should ship with most 2.6 kernels. The kernel sees the shared storage LUNs as scsi devices - multipath does the rest. (and ASM can directly use a multipath device).
On a physical layer. Typical setup (on a RAC node) is using a HBA PCI card that runs fibre connections into a SAN switch. You can also use Infiniband (IB) as the I/O layer (as Oracle's Exadata database machine does). In this case the servers will use HCA PCI cards, run IB cables into the switch, and so will the storage array run an IB cable into the switch.
--how we set up network (private & virtual IP) and how can check working of NIC's.Depends on the achitecture choses as Interconnect. Typical choices are GigE or Infiniband (IB). Oracle's Exadata database machine (RAC) uses IB as already mentioned. (and is also our preferred Interconnect technology)
With IB you would use the OFED driver stack and have a range of ib.. commands available. These can be used to configure IP over IB (IPoIB) for use as an IP-based Interconnect, bonding of NICs, check a port's status, and so on.
--and other required things. As both Daniel and Hans indicated.. you are asking quite complex questions that require a manual (if not several) to be written in response. So best to refer to the manuals and OTN material available.
Also, if you and your company are serious about using RAC, then you should make use of Oracle's RAC Assurance group to assist you. They will provide you with starter kit information for the o/s selected. They will check every single configuration parameter afterwards and deliver a comprehensive report on what's wrong, what works and what doesn't. With recommended changes that need to be done. -
Upgrade Oracle RAC 11.1.0.6 to 11.1.0.7, on linux
Hi,
I would just know where I can find a complete guide to upgrade my Oracle RAC 11.1.0.6 to the version 11.1.0.7.
It's running on a RedHat 5 (Linux version 2.6.18-164.10.1.el5)
I think I've first to upgrade the crs, than the database, is it correct?
Thanks in advance,
Samuelcorrect,
the steps are always in official guides provided with the patchsets , from My Oracle Support.

many thanks for the answer.
My doubt is on the right service name specificaton.
I create 2 service unique name for istance 1 (racistnt1) ed istance 2 (racistnt2)
I use srvctl command for create these.
In tnsnames must by use on node 1
(service_name = racsvr1)
(istance_name = racistnt1)
or
(service_name = racsvr) --> cluster service name
(istance_name = racistnt1)
In tnsnames must by use on node 2
(service_name = racsvr2)
(istance_name = racistnt2)
or
(service_name = racsvr) --> cluster service name
(istance_name = racistnt2)
Steps Install OWB.
1. instal OWB on node 1 --> OK
2. copy rtrepos.properties from node 1 to node 2 --> OK
3. sqlplus owbrep SQL>@start_service.sql -->OK (i test it without start service too)
4. lunch reposinst.sh on node 2 --> KO
the choose 'Registera Application Cluster (RAC) istance' don't appear

What do I need for Oracle Http Server with mod_plsql on Linux 64bit?
I am trying to get the OHS onto a linux box but I am not quite sure I am installing the correct thing!!
I currently have a windows box running the 10g Application server but everything seems to have changed since then and there seems to be several different things to do with the Fusion Middleware and stuff. I've tried to find an overview in plain english of what all these things are but all I can find are lots of marketing buzzwords!
All in need to to be able to run the OHS with the mod_plsql so I can run my apex application. I'd be greatfull if someone could point me in the right direction for what I need to install!
The box it is going on is a CentOS Linux 64bit machine. I've download and installed Oracle WebLogic Server 11g Rel 1 (10.3.3) using the generic installer for the 64 bit java but there seems to be no http server despite it saying there is! Most likely I am doing something wrong but the installer finishes successfully but nothing is running on port 7001.
Do I actually need the WebTier instead? Is that the best solution for running the OHS with mod_plsql? Do I need the WebLogic install as well? Unfortunately I am fairly new to Linux as well which isn't helping!!
thanks for any help
RobertWell, you have two options:
- Use the OHS from the OFM WebTier Utilities distro. (To use 11.1.1.3 version, you need both the 11.1.1.2 and 11.1.1.3 distros)
- Use the OHS from the DB Companion Disk distro.
WebLogic Server is a Java EE application with an HTTP server included, but not intended to be used as a replacement of OHS/Apache. It doesn't support mod's...
