Oracle RAC certification
hi all ,
i have OCA and OCP certification for database administrator 10g , i need to take oracle RAC certification 11g
what is the best scenario should i do .
Your best option would probably be to upgrade your 10g DBA OCP to 11g DBA OCP with exam 050, then move to 11g RAC with exam 058. This way you do not have to complete additional training.

Please help me to guide and proposed me how sud move forward for the perperation . Perferance is on 11g ....The RAC Exam is not yet out for 11g and as per the Certification Program Manager(and the moderator of this forum) , there is no defined timeline of its launch as well yet announced. If you are willing to go for RAC certification , the only option you have , in terms of certification is +1z0-048+ path. See the details of it from below link,
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=1001&lang=US&p_exam_id=1Z0_048
And even for the learning, I would suggest to start from 10g since there are many new things added to RAC from 11.2 and learning the previous information would surely be helpful in grasping the new concepts. Its just a suggestion and choice definitely remains with you .

Oracle RAC on Solarais Configuration Issue
Hi,
We are trying to install Oracle RAC 10g R2 on Solaris 10.
Following are the products
1=> Soalris 10 OS
2=> Sun Cluster 3.1
3=> Veritas Volume Manager
4=> Veritas Cluster File System
Can i deploy Oracle RAC using the above listed Software.
Here we have not purchase any of the Cluster Volume Manager.
Is the CVM required to install Oracle RAC.
Is there any alternative wherein we can install Oracle RAC without using CVM like for example using the RAW device where the VM will manage storage from a single node rather than buying the CVM that will allow to manage the storage from multiple nodes.
Also i would like to highlight is suggestion for using ASM is rule out hence ASM would not be used.
Can anyone suggest me some solution to the above problem.Well, my impression is that you don't really know what your requirements are and you are trying to fit the technologies somehow. Worse yet, there is no clear understanding how those technologies fit together and as long as you explain what your vendor is saying you (which vendor?) they don't have clear idea either.
I would also suggest to review your decision to use Sun Network Data Replicator for DR site. Consider Oracle Physical Standby database instead - it's more flexible solution and doesn't limit your choice of storage stack.
1) Do Oracle RAC 10gR2 requires any Veritas Cluster Volume Manager
Words "any" and "Veritas" contradict in your question. But the answer is no. RAC require shared storage which can generally be one of those:
- raw devices with or without some kind of cluster volume manager
- cluster file system
- NAS storage (NFS mounted)
- ASM with raw devices for CRS files (OCR and voting disks)
2) Does Oracle RAC 10g R2 require any Vertias Cluster File System or it can sit on normal Vertias File System
Again, Oracle database files MUST reside on shared storage and non-clustered file system is not an option.
3) Is there any solution where we can use the Sun Cluster with Veritas Componets to configure RAC.
If I recall correctly, Sun Cluster includes in it's license some of component of Veritas storage stack. So you might be all set. You should turn to documentation on that stage and see exactly what you have licensed and if your stack allows shared storage. You might want to have a look at http://www.sun.com/software/whitepapers/solaris10/solaris_cluster.pdf
and Oracle Certification Matrix on Metalink. -

( In any order .... and probably the reverse of that given below is appropriate: )
A: Pass the 1z0-058 exam
AND
B: ( Either have authorized (wrt certification) 11g RAC training certified
Or attain 11g DBA OCP status (e.g. by passing 1z0-050 )
.... This is totally from my sad memory but may be checked at http://certification.oracle.com -

Regards, ButterflyAt the time of this posting the relevant Oracle website is undergoing th old maintenance ...
Normally goto [http://www.oracle.com/education/certification] ... then look at the Certification paths menu items and view all certifications and locate it.
From memory it is either:
For properly certiifcated 10g/11g DBA OCP 's : pass 1z0-048.
For others attend one of the associated authorized* 10g/11g RAC training course from oracle university (or possibly selected authorized partners); pass 1z0-048 and submit your attended course for verification. -
Mixed cpu's i.e IA/AMD in Oracle RAC ?
here is common oracle software binary for AMD64/IA64. My question can we have mixed cpu vendor in the oracle RAC cluster? I mean one node with intel cpu and another AMD cpu? Rest of the resource i.e os level, memory etc will be idenitical. Already we running 2 nodes cluster with intel cpu and planning to add 3rd node with AMD Cpu. Will be any issues. Please advise
Using different CPU types in cluster nodes is acceptable as long as the two CPUs use the same instruction set (chipset). For example, the Intel Pentium and the AMD Athlon implement nearly identical versions of the x86 instruction set, but have radically different internal designs. In other words, you have to be able to install the Oracle software on each node from the same installation disks. If you have to use different media to install Oracle one or more nodes, then those nodes are not compatible.
While what you are proposing might be possible, it is not recommended. There might be some slight differences in how the Oracle software runs on the AMD system vs. the IA system. This is probably the case, since Oracle certifies Itanium releases separately. -
I want to do Oracle 10g certification( 1z0-042 and 1z0-043 ). Do I have to take training course from ORACLE for
that. How much it will cost? Is there any other way like doing Oracle 9i DBA Track without this instructor led
training programme. That means I have to attend the course before taking the second exam 1z0-043.The before* bit is not true ... the order can be either way .....
Just to be clear you can take 1z0-043 before taking your hands on line course (which is what I did). The advantage in that is you dont have to fork out the money for the course before you've passed the exam, the disadvantage is it will probably take an extra 5 weeks before your OCP certificate comes in the post .. eg about 12 weeks in total after finishing the hands on course before you get your certificate ... ( in the meanwhile seek out [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_Still_Waiting] on iTunes)
I had similar choices to you - I was initiallially for choosing a 2 day 10g advanced pl/sql course (cheap) ... but the one i had seen got cancelled so 1 did a 5 day 11g RAC course instead. (expensive but good). Worth getting aware of the schedule of courses at locations convenient to youself and costs of courses and seek out the one with the best cost/benefit for yourself (that is an acceptable hands on for 10g dba). -
Using ZFS for Oracle RAC 11gR2 binaries
Hi,
We have following scenario,
Two Node Cluster: Oracle RAC 11Gr2 with Clusterware on Solaris 10
We want to keep Oracle & Clusterware binaries on ZFS mirror file system on each node locally and for Data files, FRA, Voting disks & OCR on shared SAN using ASM.
My question, is the above scenario certified by Oracle or can we keep Oracle binaries on ZFS...?
Will appreciate your input.
ThanksWell my confusion started after reading this doc on oracle support:
Certification of Zeta File System (Zfs) On Solaris 10 for Oracle RDBMS [ID 403202.1]
"Oracle database 10gR2 (10.2.0.3 and higher patches), 11gR1 (11.1.0.6 and higher patches) and 11gR2 (11.2.0.1 and higher patches) are certified with Solaris 10 ZFS on Sparc 64-bit and Solaris x84-64. See Solaris ZFS_Best_Practices_Guide. This is for single instance ONLY. ZFS is currently not applicable to RAC and not Certified to use it as a shared filesystem." -

Oracle RAC on 2 Microsoft hyper-v VMs
Is it possible to setup a test Oracle RAC env on 2 Microsoft Hyper-v VMs like you can using VMware?
I have setup a VMWare test Oracle RAC env following http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gR2RACInstallationOnCentos4UsingVMware.php and was hoping this could also be done with Microsoft Hyper-V.
Thanks,
SteveI would speculate that this certification matrix mainly applies to a situation of installing Oracle RAC on Hyper-V VMs running on separate physical hosts using some sort of "true" shared disk. At this time, I am mainly trying to investigate the possibility of running a "test" low-cost Oracle RAC on a single Hyper-V physical host running 2 Linux VMs. If possible the shared disk wouild just be some sort of pseudo disk setup in Hyper-V shared between the VMs running on the physical hosts. I know this is possible with VMWare. I believe it is also possible with OracleVM (but have not tried OracleVM myself). The place I am currently working is using Hyper-V to run their virtual hosts and I was hoping that the "cheap" Oracle RAC Test environment using VMs could also be implemented with Hyper-V.
Thanks,

Oracle RAC One with SAP?
Hello,
are there any plans to release RAC One with SAP?
Will it be included in the general Oracle RAC 11.2 release for SAP?
Who can tell me the (list) price for Oracle RAC One for SAP systems?
The note 527843 doesn't help with any of these questions.
Regards,
MarkHello,
I am especially interested in the licence policy of RAC One.
Will it be part of standard or extended licence ???
Generally RAC One is an Oracle Option that just limits the RAC with 2 nodes.
If SAP makes certification for "RAC" generally and not for "RAC One" this would be
no technical reason.
If somebody authorized can answer my question this would be great.
Best Regards

Oracle´s File system over GPFS on Oracle RAC
Hi all,
I would like to know which Oracle´s File systems should be over GPFS on a Oracle RAC implementation.
Regards,
Sebastian.
Edited by: user12549343 on 02-feb-2010 9:10You didn't provide info about DB relase and OS.
But probably you are talking about AIX OS (I can't see any reason to use GPFS on Linux for RAC and I don't remember if this FS was/is supported for RAC on Linux (check Certification Matrix for this information)). Oracle is provides only one shared "filesystem" for AIX and it is ASM.
Now it depends on DB version what options you can use.
Till 11g R2 you have to store OCR and Voting disks outside of ASM (So you needed to use either RAW devices or Cluster Filesystem which GPFS is). Since 11g R2 you can store these disks in ASM directly.
On Linux if you don't want to use ASM to store database files you can use OCFS2 clusterfile system. -
In oracle rac, If user query a select query and in processing data is fetched but in the duration of fetching the particular node is evicted then how failover to another node internally?
The query is re-issued as a flashback query and the client process can continue to fetch from the cursor. This is described in the Net Services Administrators Guide, the section on Transparent Application Failover.

So, please help me fix this issue
Thank youI had this problem and resolved it by transporting the file to the installation server with the correct ftp datatype (binary).
On page 54 of the install guide (..Server\Oracle_Business_Intelligence\doc\doc\bi.1013\b31765.pdf) that comes with the installation files, there is an instruction to make sure that any ftp activity is done in binary.
This may not have occured with the license.xml file if you use a tool which offers the "feature" of automatic datatype recognition.
Hope this helps.
