Oracle RAC cluster ID

Hi,
I would like to know the my cluster Unique ID.
While "cemutlo -w" gives me the cluster version and "cemutlo -n" gives me the cluster name, I could not find which command will provide me the cluster ID.
Regards,
Igor

What I mean is that if I have several RAC clusters in my environment, I want to differentiate not by the cluster name but by some kind of UID of each clustereach RAC cluster have cluster name so you can identify the number in particular Cluster which you'll get in olsnodes -n.
oracle@ >olsnodes -help
Usage: olsnodes [-n] [-p] [-i] [<node> | -l] [-g] [-v]
        where
-n print node number with the node name
-p print private interconnect name with the node name
-i print virtual IP name with the node name
<node> print information for the specified node
-l print information for the local node
                -g turn on logging
                -v run in verbose mode

  • Why do we use reverse proxy for Oracle RAC Cluster setup

    Hello All,
I got this question lately.. "why do we use reverse proxy for Oracle RAC Cluster setup". I know we use the reverse proxy at Middleware level for multiple security reasons.
    Thanks..

"why do we use reverse proxy for Oracle RAC Cluster setup".
I wouldn't. I wouldn't use a proxy of any sort for the Cluster Interconnect for sure.

There will be a new version of the Standalone CHM/OS for Windows that will work with 11.2.0.2 and earlier versions available on OTN in the near future. The older version that you are using has not been tested and due to the infrastructure changes in 11.2 it is not expected it will work. The integrated CHM/OS that is included as part of the 11.2.0.3 GI installation does work as does the new GUI (CHMOSG) now available for download.

  • Preferred Hardware Plattform for  Linux RAC Cluster

What ist the preferred Hardware Platform
for using LINUX with Oracle RAC - Cluster solution ?
What do you prefer Suse or Redhat ?
Is there a tested Hardware Environment from Oracle Support ?
    Thanks

You have the disk space, but not the memory, even discounting the memory for the Oracle VM hypervisor, OEL/RH5 is going to take at least 1G to run. So, with your base OS, hypervisor, Linux and Oracle (clusterware and DB), it may be possible, but I believe you would be swapping so much you would have terrible performance. I would look at a MINIMUM of 3GB if not 4GB RAM to try this configuration.

  • Mixed cpu's i.e IA/AMD in Oracle RAC ?

here is common oracle software binary for AMD64/IA64. My question can we have mixed cpu vendor in the oracle RAC cluster? I mean one node with intel cpu and another AMD cpu? Rest of the resource i.e os level, memory etc will be idenitical. Already we running 2 nodes cluster with intel cpu and planning to add 3rd node with AMD Cpu. Will be any issues. Please advise

Using different CPU types in cluster nodes is acceptable as long as the two CPUs use the same instruction set (chipset). For example, the Intel Pentium and the AMD Athlon implement nearly identical versions of the x86 instruction set, but have radically different internal designs. In other words, you have to be able to install the Oracle software on each node from the same installation disks. If you have to use different media to install Oracle one or more nodes, then those nodes are not compatible.
While what you are proposing might be possible, it is not recommended. There might be some slight differences in how the Oracle software runs on the AMD system vs. the IA system. This is probably the case, since Oracle certifies Itanium releases separately.

  • Urgent help oracle rac

    Hi experts ,
I have 2xv890 with 1x3510 oracle rac cluster , i have did the installation of the cluster successfully , and CRS installed also successfully , but when start installation of database run root.sh , in the stage of VIP configuration i select the interface of VIP then start to install , i got when trying to install GSD stop at 15% and dialag empty error msg coming up .
I dout the problem in VIP configuration , any one can tell me how to configure that ,
another question is it required to have same interface names for both servers like, if ce1 in one server ,so another server also ce1 for public.
is required for private interface ??
    please help .

I'm not clear on what the VIP part plays in the Oracle RAC installation, especially in root.sh.
When you install CRS, the last part of root.sh on the final joining node is to create all the clusterware resources, VIP, GSD and ONS. Are you certain that this bit has completed successfully? What was the crs_stat output like? There is a bug in 10.2.0.1 where it won't install properly if you are using an RFC 1918 public network address.
You will need to use the same interface name for the public networks. That is a requirement in the Oracle documentation IIRC.

  • Encountered ora-29701 during Sun Cluster for Oracle RAC 9.2.0.7 startup (UR

    Hi all,
Need some help from all out there
In our Sun Cluster 3.1 Data Service for Oracle RAC 9.2.0.7 (Solaris 9) configuration, my team had encountered
ora-29701 *Unable to connect to Cluster Manager*
during the startup of the Oracle RAC database instances on the Oracle RAC Server resources.
We tried the attached workaround by Oracle. This workaround works well for the 1^st time but it doesn’t work anymore when the server is rebooted.
Kindly help me to check whether anyone encounter the same problem as the above and able to resolve. Thanks.

ORA-29701 DURING DATABASE CREATION AFTER APPLYING 9.2.0.6 PATCHSET
    *** 03/25/05 07:32 am ***
    TAR:
    PROBLEM:
Customer applied 9.2.0.6 patchset over 9.2.0.4 patchset.
While creating the database, customer receives following error:
ORA-29701: unable to connect to Cluster Manager
However, if customer goes from 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.5 -> 9.2.0.6, the problem does not occur.
    DIAGNOSTIC ANALYSIS:
It seems that the problem is with libskgxn9.so shared library.
    For 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.5 -> 9.2.0.6, the install log shows the following:
    installActions2005-03-22_03-44-42PM.log:,

    For 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.6, install log shows:
    installActions2005-03-22_04-13-03PM.log:, [libcmdll.so ->%ORACLE_HOME%/lib/libskgxn9.so 64274 plats=1=>[46] langs=-554696704=>[en]] does not exist.
This means that while patching from 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.5, Installer copies the libcmdll.so library into libskgxn9.so, while patching from 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.6 does not.
ORACM is located in /app/oracle/ORACM which is different than ORACLE_HOME in customer's environment.
    WORKAROUND:
Customer is using the following workaround:
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib make -f ins_rdbms.mk rac_on ioracle ipc_udp

  • Gig Ethernet V/S  SCI as Cluster Private Interconnect for Oracle RAC

    Hello Gurus
Can any one pls confirm if it's possible to configure 2 or more Gigabit Ethernet interconnects ( Sun Cluster 3.1 Private Interconnects) on a E6900 cluster ?
It's for a High Availability requirement of Oracle 9i RAC. i need to know ,
    1) can i use gigabit ethernet as Private cluster interconnect for Deploying Oracle RAC on E6900 ?
    2) What is the recommended Private Cluster Interconnect for Oracle RAC ? GiG ethernet or SCI with RSM ?
    3) How about the scenarios where one can have say 3 X Gig Ethernet V/S 2 X SCI , as their cluster's Private Interconnects ?
    4) How the Interconnect traffic gets distributed amongest the multiple GigaBit ethernet Interconnects ( For oracle RAC) , & is anything required to be done at oracle Rac Level to enable Oracle to recognise that there are multiple interconnect cards it needs to start utilizing all of the GigaBit ethernet Interfaces for transfering packets ?
    5) what would happen to Oracle RAC if one of the Gigabit ethernet private interconnects fails

Can any one pls confirm if it's possible to configure
2 or more Gigabit Ethernet interconnects ( Sun
    Cluster 3.1 Private Interconnects) on a E6900
cluster ?Yes, absolutely. You can configure up to 6 NICs for the private networks. Traffic is automatically striped across them if you specify clprivnet0 to Oracle RAC (9i or 10g). That is TCP connections and UDP messages.
It's for a High Availability requirement of Oracle
    9i RAC. i need to know ,
    1) can i use gigabit ethernet as Private cluster
interconnect for Deploying Oracle RAC on E6900 ? Yes, definitely.
    2) What is the recommended Private Cluster
Interconnect for Oracle RAC ? GiG ethernet or SCI
with RSM ? SCI is or is in the process of being EOL'ed. Gigabit is usually sufficient. Longer term you may want to consider Infiniband or 10 Gigabit ethernet with RDS.
    3) How about the scenarios where one can have say 3 X
    Gig Ethernet V/S 2 X SCI , as their cluster's
Private Interconnects ? I would still go for 3 x GbE because it is usually cheaper and will probably work just as well. The latency and bandwidth differences are often masked by the performance of the software higher up the stack. In short, unless you tuned the heck out of your application and just about everything else, don't worry too much about the difference between GbE and SCI.
    4) How the Interconnect traffic gets distributed
amongest the multiple GigaBit ethernet Interconnects
( For oracle RAC) , & is anything required to be done
at oracle Rac Level to enable Oracle to recognise
that there are multiple interconnect cards it needs
to start utilizing all of the GigaBit ethernet
Interfaces for transfering packets ?You don't need to do anything at the Oracle level. That's the beauty of using Oracle RAC with Sun Cluster as opposed to RAC on its own. The striping takes place automatically and transparently behind the scenes.
    5) what would happen to Oracle RAC if one of the
Gigabit ethernet private interconnects fails It's completely transparent. Oracle will never see the failure.
Have tried searching for this info but could not
locate any doc that can precisely clarify these
doubts that i have .........This is all covered in a paper that I have just completed and should be published after Christmas. Unfortunately, I cannot give out the paper yet.
    thanks for the patience

  • Does /sapmnt need in cluster file system(SAP ECC 6.0 with oracle RAC)

We are going to be installing SAP with Oracle 10.2.0.4 RAC on Linux SuSE 10 and OCFS2. The Oracle RAC documentation states:
You must store the following components in the cluster file system when you use RAC
    in the SAP environment:
    - Oracle Clusterware (CRS) Home
    - Oracle RDBMS Home
    - SAP Home (also /sapmnt)
    - Voting Disks
    - OCR
    - Database
What I want to ask is if I really need put SAP Home(also /sapmnt) on cluster file system? I will build a two nodes oracel 10g RAC and I also have another two nodes to install SAP CI and DI. My orginial think is sapmnt is a NFS share, and mount to all four nodes(RAC node and CI/DI), and all oracle stuff was on OCFS2(only two rac nodes are OCFS), anybody can tell me if SAP Home(also /sapmnt) can be NFS mount not OCFS2, thanks.
    Best regards,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
I don't think you need to keep /sapmnt in  ocfs2 . Reason any file system  need  to be in cluster is,in RAC environment, data stored in the cache of one Oracle instance to be accessed by any other instance by transferring it across the private network  and preserves data integrity and cache coherency by transmitting locking and other synchronization information across cluster nodes.
AS this applies to redo files, datafiles and control files only ,  you should be fine with nfs mount of /sapmnt sharing across and not having ocfs2.

  • Oracle RAC + Clusterware and another Cluster with Clusterware for SAP

    Hi,
I have some questions about implementation of Oracle RAC and Clusterware with SAP
For exemple, an architecture with 4 servers ( 2 real and 2 vritual ).
I would like to know if i can do this
2 servers for the first cluster.
First cluster is with Clusterware and Oracle RAC
This is for all the SAP Oracle databases environment
I think there is no problem here.
Now, with 2 others servers il would like to make another cluster (with also clusterware ) for SAP Central services (SCS) and enque replication server (ERS)
Because all architecture is for only one SAP environment with separate services.
    1 for Database (cluster 1)
1 for Central services ( cluster 2, virtual machine )
1 for Dialogue Instance (no cluster)
To be clear, the second cluster is to make HA of central services SAP (SCS and ERS )
    My question 2 are :
Is it a good job to do this ? or there is anything wrong ?
Do i have to install antoher clusterware for this 2 servers or i have to make anything with the existing clusterware + oracle RAC ??
Thank you very much for you help

    Hi Givre,
have you checked: Providing High Availability for SAP Resources (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/clusterware/pdf/sap-availability-on-rac-twp.pdf) available on otn.oracle.com/clusterware? Not being an SAP expert myself, I still think, this paper describes the configuration - at least partially - that you are trying to set up.
    Just an idea. Thanks,
    Markus

  • Does oracle clusterware and oracle RAC require sun cluster

    Hi,
I have to setup oracle RAC on solaris 10 SPARC. so is it necessary to install sun cluster 3.2, QFS file system on solaris
I have 2 sun sparc servers with solaris 10 installed on it and shared LUN setup(SAN disk RAID 5 partitions)
Have to have 2 node setup for RAC load balancing.
    Regards
    Prakash

    Hi Prakash,
    very interesting point:
As per oracle clusterware documents the cluster manager support is only for windows and linux.
In case of solaris SPARC will the cluster manager get configured ???
The term "Cluster Manager" refers to a "cluster manager" that Oracle used in 9i times and this one was indeed only available on Linux / Windows.
Therefore, let me, please, ask you something: Which version of Oracle RAC do you plan to use?
Because for 9i RAC, you would need Sun or Veritas Cluster on Solaris. The answers given here that Sun Cluster would not be required assume 10g RAC or higher.
Now, you might see other dependencies which can be resolved by Sun Cluster. I cannot comment on those.
For the RAW setup: having RAW disks (not raw logical volumes) will be fine without Veritas and ASM on top.
    Hope that helps. Thanks,
    Markus

  • Install SAP cluster ORACLE RAC and SCS

I need to install SAP ECC SR3 in an environment in cluster.
    O.S: Linux Red Hat B.D: Oracle 10.2.0.4
I am trying to follow the official manual of SAP, but this very confused, would like the you aid.
The environment is the following one:
    2 machine (Node A and Node B)
1 area of storage shared for datafiles of Oracle. /oracle/PRD.
It goes also to be installed ORACLE RAC.
My doubt is the following one: Which the steps that I have that to follow so that everything of certain.
When I go to install ORACLE RAC? Before, later or during the installation of SAP?
I go to need to install the central office services (SCS) in the two servers? Or only in one?
Somebody could help with some document or detail me of what I go to need to make?
    Please!
    Thanks!

    Hi Alan,
Please go through this link [http://www.oracle.com/newsletters/sap/docs/wp-o10g-rac-config-unx.pdf] Hope this should help you.

  • Veritas required for Oracle RAC on Sun Cluster v3?

    Hi,
We are planning a 2 node Oracle 9i RAC cluster on Sun Cluster 3.
Can you please explain these 2 questions?
    1)
If we have a hardware disk array RAID controller with LUNs etc, then why do we need to have Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) if all the LUNS are configured at a hardware level?
    2)
Do we need to have VxFS? All our Oracle database files will be on raw partitions.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    > We are planning a 2 node Oracle 9i RAC cluster on Sun
Cluster 3.Good. This is a popular configuration.
Can you please explain these 2 questions?
    1)
If we have a hardware disk array RAID controller with
LUNs etc, then why do we need to have Veritas Volume
Manager (VxVM) if all the LUNS are configured at a
hardware level?VxVM is not required to run RAC. VxVM has an option (separately
licensable) which is specifically designed for OPS/RAC. But if
you have a highly reliable, multi-pathed, hardware RAID platform,
you are not required to have VxVM.
    2)
Do we need to have VxFS? All our Oracle database
files will be on raw partitions.No.
IMHO, simplify is a good philosophy. Adding more software
and layers into a highly available design will tend to reduce
the availability. So, if you are going for maximum availabiliity,
you will want to avoid over-complicating the design. KISS.
In the case of RAC, or Oracle in general, many people do use
raw and Oracle has the ability to manage data in raw devices
pretty well. Oracle 10g further improves along these lines.
A tenet in the design of highly available systems is to keep
the data management as close to the application as possible.
Oracle, and especially 10g, are following this tenet. The only
danger here is that they could try to get too clever, and end up
following policies which are suboptimal as the underlying
technologies change. But even in this case, the policy is
coming from the application rather than the supporting platform.

  • Red Hat Cluster Suite and Oracle RAC

    HI Guys,
Our boss will plan to configure Red Hat Cluster Suite to replace to update oracle RAC.
Are there some experienced expert to explain advantage and risk of Red Hat Cluster Suite v Oracle RAC 11.2
    Thanks
    Jin

    Hi,
first of all Red Hat Cluster Suite cannot replace the RAC functionality. RAC is database Red Hat Cluster Suite, just provides clusterware. So all with what you will end up is a plain old failover cluster solution.
So in maximum Red Hat Cluster Suite can replace the Oracle Clusterware. (But not below a RAC, since this is not supported and even with integration with other clusterware Oracle Clusterware will still be there).
So what he will end up is also replacing RAC with single instance databases in a failover cluster solution, and with this will decrease a lot of RAC capabilities:
=> Rolling Upgrade (OS / Clusterware and some database patches)
    => Storage migration/consolidation
=> Fast failover (30 seconds vs. minutes).
See www.oracle.com and you will find whitepapers with differences between failover clusters and RAC.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/failover-cluster-134770.pdf
But even if there are other justifications to reduce availablity (which actually can only be costs), I still wonder, why he wants to replace Oracle Clusterware - the clusterware shipped with Oracle is far more mature than the one from the Red Hat cluster Suite.
And there is no better integration for Oracle databases in clusterware than what Oracle clusterware can provide.
Even more so, OCW is a full capable clusterware and you can build your own failover cluster solution for free.
The same would have to be done if he replaces it with redhat cluster.
PS: If someone is providing failover scripts for Oracle in Redhat clusters, it will be Redhat (but I think you have to write them yourself).
    Regards
    Sebastian
