Oracle RAC Pre-Installation
Hi,
I am planning to install Oracle 10gR2 RAC on Solaris 10 and have three questions:
1- Where can I find the clusterware software? I downloaded 10.2.0.1 (SPARC 64 bit) and could not find the clusterware software. Should I donwload it individually?
2- Which RAC components should be installed first if I want to use both. ASM or Clusterware?
Thanks in advance for your answers..
Hi,
You can apply the Oracle Database release 10.2.0.3 patch set to the following Oracle Database 10g release 2 installations:
Oracle Database
Oracle Real Application Clusters
Oracle Database Client
Oracle Database Companion CD
Oracle Clusterware
Oracle Database Vault 10.2.0.2
To download the patch for solaris sparc 64bit:
https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=200:10:8410157354910596298
So, simply apply it on the clusterware Oracle Home, and only then continue to the database software layer.
Idan.

Oracle Rac 11GR2 installation issues;
Hi fellows. I wonder if you could help me with an issue:
I have this Oracle RAC with 2 nodes, using OS Oracle Linux 6.3 with architecture x86_64.

Hi
Am planning to install oracle RAC 11g on linux server. Have doubt on installation of clusterware or grid infrastructure first .?
I think grid infrastructure covers clusterware and ASM both and then oracle 11g software to be installed.
But how to download grid insfrastructure software. Will it come with oracle 11g software..? or need to download it seperately.?
Because when i try to download oracle RAC 11g which gives link to download the 11g software not grid.
Thanks in advance,Hi,
Its called "oracle one node rac" you will find plenty of documents on metalink, extract is below, hope this helps you to understand the differences.
Oracle RAC Database : Oracle RAC database is a clustered database. It can have more than one instance running on one or more hosts. To make is database RAC , there is another software needs to be installed called Oracle Grid infrastructure which takes care of multinode sync, ASM, Oracle restart etc. Oracle GI is necessary as a base of Oracle RAC. In Oracle RAC, the load is balanced across multiple instance of databases running on different nodes. This is best for Production database. Failure of any instance is abstracted from user and forwarded to another instance from the database server pool. No of instances can be controlled using Policy Managed or Admin Managed.
Oracle RAC One Node : Some time we need to have RAC databases but donot need many instances, why? Simple answers to it is leverage the high availability of RAC. The Oracle RAC One node is a RAC DB runs on one host. The advantage is it saves your resource, can to converted to full RAC any time, Cluster fail over i.e. the Database instance is moved to new instance in case of any failure on host known as Instance Relocation, easy to upgrade etc. This type of database is well suited for small production and dev/test environments. -
Hi All,
Got the RAC DB installed with two nodes. If I create table in one node that is not accessible from another node. But when I loginto each node using sql-developer I could see that table.
Thanks
Venkat. We have a limitation to use older version of Oracle DB & that's why can not upgrade.
Oracle DB Version "10.2.0.1" is the must for us to install on HP-Unix 11.31 (v3)
So, Let me know if any patch needed to run on HP-Unix 11.31,which will create compatibility with 10.2.0.1 version.
As discussed, Oracle patch 10.2.0.2 will resolve my issue? If yes, then let me know the procedure to download it. Is it free to download or metalink support needed?
Official Oracle Documentation itself is saying that 10.2.0.1 is not compatible with HP-Unix 11.31. What to do??
Reply Urgent If Possible.

Oracle 10g R2 installation with ASM+RAC
Gurus,
Need some suggestuon on Oracle 10g R2 installation with ASM and RAC option.
We have found many documents on the Oracle, HP, HP-Oracle CTC and third party web sites, but nothing that is specific to this particular combination of separate
ORACLE_HOMEs, ASM and 10g RAC CRS. It is unclear for me from the documentation how this combination of ASM and 10.2g RAC may best be installed.
The high level steps i got after reading lot of docs as follows - but i am not sure whether these are correct or not. if they are correct, can any one share their experience/notes please?
1) Install CRS
2) Install RDBMS for ASM HOME - create separater oracle home for ASM instance using OUI
3) Install RDBMS for RAC Database Home - create separater oracle home for RAC database using OUI
4) Create ASM database using DBCA -
5) Use dbca to create database.Oracle provides 'paint by numbers' tutorials called 'Oracle By Example'. (Go to OTN, check under the Training tab)
They have one for a Windows based ASM/RAC that you might want to review. Not your specific environment, but the steps will be dag-nabbed close.
I recommend walking the path (http://otn.oracle.com >> training:OBE >> Database 10g Release 1:VMWare:Installation

Error during installation Oracle RAC 11G
Hi experts;
I'm installing Oracle RAC 11G, this installation will be in two virtual servers, OS Linux redhat.
I began the installation with these steps
Configure Security Updates
then ask for proxy server information (nothing was entered), continue
Installation Option (don't ask anything)
then System Class (Server class selected)
Grid Options
(Real Application Clusters database installation)
when hit ENTER I got this errror message - (INS - 35354) The system on which you are attempting to install Oracle RAC is not part of a valid cluster.
I was looking in some forums an I found one where indicates I should indentiify these files and change some info on them;
=============================================================================
cat /etc/oraInst.loc
The ouput of the above command lists the inventory_directory
Browse to the inventory.xml file in that directory. My oraInventory
cd /u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/ContentsXML/
cat inventory.xml
You can verify that the flag CRS=true isn’t set for the $GRID_HOME
==============================================================================
However, I couldn't find any of those files in my directories.
also, i was verifying the note [ID 1053393.1, but again, I couldn't find where to change the values for CRS.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
I will apreciate your help.

bHi,
RAC is a database in a cluster. One Database opened by one o more instances in one or more hosts.
Note: RAC is not a cluster, but a Database cluster.
To allow database be clustered, we need to install a software cluster.
We have some options, but Oracle developed your own software cluster actually named Grid Infrastructure for a cluster AKA Oracle Clusterware.
To install RAC you need first install and configure your cluster.
Before you start install Oracle cluster/RAC I recommend you start with concepts.

Oracle RAC 11g R2 installation complete installation guide
Hi,
Please suggest any oracle docs for Oracle RAC 11g R2 installation complete installation.
I am in process for installating Oracle RAC 11g r2 first time in my life this weekend.please help.Hi Praveen,
Tim Hall has a perfect guide for installing Oracle RAC, you can review all the articles here:
http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/articles-11g.php#db11g_release_2_installations
Consider also getting familiar with Real Application Clusters, because installing is only the very top of the solution and knowledge of how it works is a must:

Oracle RAC installation failover
Hi,
I have an Oracle RAC installation with 2 nodes with the data stored on a shared OCFS partition. I had a client test the connection using jdbc string for RAC failover. I tried shutting down one of the nodes on the RAC installation and the client could not connect to the oracle cluster database for the next 5 to 10mins.
I understand that the client would failover to the next available listener (On the next retry connection) if the node it is currently listening to has failed. Is there any configuration i should make to increase the failover efficiency?
Thanks for any advice.Hi,
Server side failover is arranged by setting the remote_listener parameter.
Client side failover is set by using T(ransparent) A(pplication) F(ailover) (9i and higher)
or F(ast)C(onnection)F(ailover). Both are documented in the Net administrators manual for the version you didn't care to mention.
As far as I know, both TAF and FCF are not supported by the JDBC thin driver.

SAP ECC6.0 installation with Oracle RAC
Hi Expert,
Current we working on SAP ECC6.0 installation with Oracle 10G RAC on AIX 5.3. The RAC are running on two nodes (servers). And we are using GPFS filesystem (not running on HACMP).
Overall we had completed the Oracle RAC installation (CRS+RDBMS) and tested the oracle failover and it work find. Now we want to start with the SAP installation (with HA). In the SAP installation documentation, it did request to create a virtual hostname on the node and execute the sapinst scripts with below command line.
#./sapinst SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=ascs00
But if we are running on Oracle RAC + GPFS do we need to specify the virtual hostname? If not, which hostname i should use to install the HA for SAP? Please advice.
Regards. And then I'd continue with the documentation at:
SAP on Oracle => SAP on Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC)

Regarding Hangcheck timer configuration in Oracle RAC 10g r2 installation
Hi,
Is it necessary to configure hangcheck timer in Oracle RAC 10g R2 installation .
Can somebody guide when we should install the hangcheck timer in Linux oracle 10g R2.
Best Regards
Gupteswar Prasad Mishra
Edited by: Gupteswar on Jan 25, 2010 8:42 PMyes, its recommended to configure hangcheck timer in RAC configuration
Configure the Hangcheck Timer
The hang-check timer is loaded into the Linux kernel and checks if the system hangs. It will set a timer and check the timer after a certain amount of time. There is a configurable threshold to hang-check that, if exceeded will reboot the machine. Although the hangcheck-timer module is not required for Oracle Clusterware (Cluster Manager) operation, it is highly recommended by Oracle.
cat /etc/rc.local
modprobe hangcheck-timer hangcheck_tick=1 hangcheck_margin=10 hangcheck_reboot=1 -

Oracle RAC Installation: Unix nodes, Windows ASM
I have a question about configuring Oracle RAC. I have never done any RAC or ASM installation before. Might be a stupid question for some of you.
Is it possible to install Oracle RAC using following options?
2 node RAC using Sun Solaris
Shared Storage using ASM in Windows server
Any additional information that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advanceHi,
First of all, do you have a shared storage available to both unix server or you want to use the windows server as a shared storage ?
From the documentation
Single Instance and Clustered Environments:
Each database server that has database files managed by ASM needs to be running an ASM instance. A single ASM instance can service one or more single-instance databases on a stand-alone server. Each ASM disk group can be shared among all the databases on the server. In a clustered environment, each node runs an ASM instance, and the ASM instances communicate with each other on a peer-to-peer basis.
Which means that you need to have ASM instance on every server where you have a database instance.
In case you don't have a shared storage to the unix servers, you have two options - iSCSI or NFS. You can setup the windows machine as an iscsi server and both unix machines as an iscsi clients then you will have shared storage on both unix machines. The other option is to configure the window machine as NFS server and mount the NFS share on both unix machines. Then you can deploy the data files directly at the NFS shared (not supported) or create empty files using dd and use then as device files for ASM.
For more information on ASM over NFS you can read Tim Halls article:
http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/linux/UsingNFSWithASM.php
