Oracle RDBMS for Intel MacOS X

In reading the other posts about Oracle Instant Client for Intel MacOS X, I see a lot of others are stating that no one is asking for Oracle RDBMS to be supported natively on Mac OS X (Intel).
For the record, there are many others that are asking for this from Oracle (and have been since Intel of Mac OS X was announced). I too need the Oracle Instant Client, but I really need Oracle RDBMS released as well (10g for Tiger (Intel) or better).
We have been waiting for Oracle's promise a few years ago to treat the Mac as First Class Enterprise platform. We invested in this and have been shipping our "single box" solution. However our customers are held back by only able to run Oracle 10g on Panther Server since our product must be run in a certified environment.
Oracle on Mac OS X for us has been very stable and has served our development and customers well. However, it is just not able to run "certified" on the newer hardware architecture (Intel) and a machine replacement cycle is overdue because of this.
I hope that Oracle visits this issue soon and has an announcement coincident with the launch of Leopard (UNIX 03).
I realize some of you have different needs and run the RDBMS on another platform, but not us. So please count a vote for me for both an Oracle Instant Client AND Oracle RDBMS for Mac OS X (Intel).

In reading the other posts about Oracle Instant
Client for Intel MacOS X, I see a lot of others are
stating that no one is asking for Oracle RDBMS to be
supported natively on Mac OS X (Intel).Yeah, well, those are the same people who seem to think that all it takes to release a new version of the client is switching a compiler flag, waiting 15 minutes for a build, and dumping the result onto the OTN download site. Hyperbole trumps reality. In other words, it's an Internet forum. ;-)
I'm sure you've already done this, but you're much, much better off getting on the phone with your Oracle rep and detailing to him/her just how much licensing revenue they realistically stand to lose if they don't give some attention to the Intel Mac platform. I could believe that the recent tone of discourse on this forum about "Oracle on OS X/Intel" might actually erode the position that it's a useful product direction for Oracle, so anything that license-paying folk can do to convince them otherwise would be great. :-)
Otherwise, it's just the same 5 people posting semi-anonymously making vague threats about moving to some other platform and/or venting their spleens about horrible they think Oracle is (which, I know is often a huge motivator for anyone to take on a project...)

  • Oracle Instant Client for Intel MacOS X

Hi all, this is my first post here (so I don't know if it's the proper place, but to try it is free. Sorry for any inconvenience).
Anybody, can confirm/explain why, one year after launch, there isn't one available download of Oracle Instant Client for Intel MacOS X?
Without it's impossible, for example, to compile PHP with OCI support under Intel MacOS X (native mode) and it's really a pain.
With PPC version existing since ages, wouldn't be absolutely easy to recompile that cool stuff for Intel MacOS X?
TIA and ciao, Eloy Lafuente :-)

    Hi again...
just to know a bit more... two months later... how is customer demand going...?
Have you searched for "macos x instant client intel" ?
    Aren't PHP/Perl/Ruby applications enough?
I sincerely think it's a big mistake to don't offer native connectivity for MacOS X Intel users... of course, your mistake.
Some developers, like me, will stop developing/improving Oracle support in their applications just because they use MacOS X to develop. So, those applications won't run ok under Oracle, no matter where you deploy them.
With thousands of applications running natively under MacOS X Intel... isn't there (@ Oracle) able to recompile that tiny piece of software to run under Intels... sorry but I cannot believe it.
I'll email SJ right now! Ciao :-)

  • Cannot use iSQL*Plus to connect Oracle 9i for Intel Linux

When I try to use brower connecting to isql*plus , nothing appear.
By performing the following steps :
    1. Change directory to the Oracle HTTP Server home bin directory by entering:
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf
    3. Parse the Oracle HTTP Server httpd.conf configuration file by entering:
    apachectl configtest
    Display: Sytax OK
    4. Start the Oracle HTTP Server by entering
    apachectl start
    Display: Could not start
Then, I find that the oracle http server cannot be started and open the error_log file of Oracle HTTP server :
[Mon Nov 11 00:09:25 2002] [crit] (2)No such file or directory: Apache JServ encountered a fatal error; check your ApJServLogFile for details if none are present in this file. Exiting.
There are also many files like:
    mm.1807.sem
    mm.2012.mem
How can I fix this problem ?
    Thanks.

Have you checked the ApJServLogFile? You might find some clues there.
I'm curious as to why you are getting 'display' errors. Is your display environment set up properly?

  • Oracle into Solaris for Intel

Does the Oracle database for Solaris for SunSPARC, works into a
    Solaris for Intel?
Do you know, where I can download an Oracle for Solaris for
    Intel?
That Oracle database version is the only one, wich is not in the
    OTN download page.

I bought Sun Solaris 8 (Intel platform) from SUN - you just have to pay the media & shipping fees. Oracle 8i (for Intel Sun Solaris8) was included in the package .
Check on www.sun.com for more details.

  • Separate User for Oracle RDBMS and EM Agent...

    Good Day All,
Has anyone here deployed the EM Agent (10.2 or 11.1) as it's own user? For example, leave the Oracle RDBMS binaries owned by "oracle" but install the EM Agent as "oagent."
I inquired with Oracle Support and I've received the "it is possible and done in some environments" but I want to know how many folks have done it, how large of a target base are you monitoring, and what target types have you tried. We are using a mixed RHEL & OEL environment.
Our goal is to separate the installation and support of the EM Agents from the RDBMS by team. I think we would want to have a shared Linux group... there might be some issues with the Inventory and writing to it by separate owners but we should be able to get around that.
    Thoughts?
    TIA!
    Regards,
    Rich

    Thanks for the response!
Besides central inventory, do you know of any other issues we might have with this configuration? Have you implemented this to monitor targets such as Linux hosts, Listeners, RDBMS, WebLogic, iAS, Peoplesoft, Siebel, etc?
    Regards,
    Rich
