Oracle reading binary files from other oracle home.

Hi all,
I have two oracle db installed on the same server but on different oracle home.
It seems to me that the second oracle is reading the binaries from the other installation.
I can start this database and the sap instance and it starts on the correct oracle home but I see that it is reading files on the first oracle home.
for example, it saves the spfile under the first oracle_home\database directory. I started it using pfile=<the_correct_ora-home>\database\initSID.ora and set on this  init.ora file the correct path for  spfile.
But even after this if i change any parameter, it stills change the spfile on the wrong <oracle_home>\database.
Is there a way to fix this ? I mean to make the second oracle to see files under its own oracle home ?
It is oracle 11g under windows 2008.
Remember that all the environment variables is pointing to the correct oracle home and I can start SAP and Oracle as well on this oracle_home.
Thanks in advance,
Joao.

Hi Orkun,
No, we don't have anything else installed yet.
Please see what I found out:
Checking those binary errors I found out that the oracle service
OracleServiceDPC (the second instance on this server) is being started from the wrong oracle_home path. Please
see the path to the executables on that service properties:
g:\oracle\dnc\11202\bin\ORACLE.EXE DPC
It is pointing to the other oracle home DNC but starting instance DPC. How can I change that ?
Please see that the oracle home, the listener, etc is correct pointing
to oracle home G:\oracle\DPC\11202.
I would like to disable this service and create the correct one.
Is that possible ?
thanks and regards,
Joao

  • Using archivelog and control file from other Oracle server

    I am still bothered with my backup process.
    I have 2 AIX boxes (same model, say A and B); both have BAAN 5 and Oracle 10g R2 on. Right now my colleague insists to use the export pump (cold backup) from Prod Oracle server (A) to restore the Oracle server on Box B. The Prod server has the archivelog mode turn on. But it will miss any transaction data from import pump till the crash point of Box A. So this is my confusion.
    Can I pass the control files and archivelog files form Box A (prod server) to Box B and use them to restore the Box B as the latest Prod server? How?
    I tried to convince them to use the RMAN backup? But not successful?
    I think the best way is probably to use the Oracle Data guard. However, there is always one concern to my manager and colleague, that such process will cause the data on the restored server (failover, Box B) not recognizable by the BAAN, which define the objects (tables).
    Thanks

    Performing a logical backup is not useful to restore to the point of failure. The only valid and available option is a hot backup/archivelog mode. Your recovery manager backup perform a controlfile and redologfile backup, so those can be restored at the destination. You must take care of the way you perform the backup, and ensure the paths where your backup is being deposited are visible by the second node. A shared storage with same mount points is suitable in this case. A tape robot configured at both nodes is also a suitable solution.
    Recovery manager perfoms a controlfile and spfile restore, too. This rman command perform the action:
    SET DBID <DBID of the database,for which you want to restore the controlfile>;
    RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM <name_of_backupiece_which_contains_the_controlfile backup>';
    I don't see any problem on the recovery manager side, and technically speaking, on the Oracle side it is perfectly possible to restore your database at a remote location. I don't know what happens on the BAAN side, if you are required to have it configured to be operative on the target node. You could try to clone your database at the node B, configure BAAN and prepare the proceduere in case of failure.
    Configuring a dataguard is also a recomended action. So it is to think about Cold Failed Over clusters. I have recently performed a CFC configuration with BAAN. No problem it works smoothly.

  • Read binary file information from servlet - from database accessor method

    Okay, I have been working on this for awhile now and I just plain dont know what I am doing. Could someone please help me? I cannot find any examples through google or the forums for this specific type of situation( as in a servlet calls a method which gets binary file from a database).
    - How do I get the inputStream into the servlet so that I can read it?

    Well I suppose the picture is stored in a blob. If that is so this is some code I have used to load a picture to a panel. Hope you find it usefull.
    PreparedStatement retreive = db.createPreparedStatement("select bl from test where ln = ?");
    Blob bl;
    try{
    retreive.setBigDecimal(1, new BigDecimal(jTFln.getText()));
    ResultSet rs = retreive.executeQuery();
    if (!rs.next())
    System.out.println("Empty Result Set");
    bl = rs.getBlob("bl");
    if (bl == null) {
    System.out.println("Null Blob");
    return;
    InputStream is = bl.getBinaryStream();
    int imageLength = (int) bl.length();
    System.out.println(imageLength);
    System.out.println(bl.length());
    byte[] imageData = new byte [imageLength];
    is.read(imageData, 0, imageLength);
    image1 = new ImageIcon(imageData);
    photo = new JPanel() {
    public void paint(Graphics g){
    g.setColor(Color.lightGray);

    Mine is 9i database and 11.5.10.2 oracle apps server
    I am trying to read PDF file from server, I used the below code
    l_bfile:=bfilename('\u05\app\applmgr\11i\oraclecomn\admin\out\jamuna_server','o7742576.out');
    if DBMS_LOB.FILEEXISTS(l_bfile) = 1 then

    else
    dbms_output.put_line( 'Not Exists!');
    end if;
    i used forward slashes (/) instead of backward slashes (\) too and i also made dbms_output.put_line(to_char(dbms_lob.getlength(l_bfile)));
    while using dbms_log package , i got the below error .I am bit worried since I have created directory and gave sufficicent priviliges too.

    Can you please suggest me what I can do to move further? what kind of priviliges it requires to point and read the file from server?
    Please help me in this.

    I suspect you are not using a directory object is the problem.

  • FTP Adapter to read multiple files from a directory. Not through polling.

    Dear Friends,
    I would like to know is it possible to configure the FTP adapter in Oracle BPEL 10.1.3.4 to read multiple files (different names, same structure) from a given directory. I do not want the BPEL to do a polling. Instead when I submit the BPEL process it should read all files from the directory.
    I was looking at the option of Synchronous read but I am not able to specify wild card in the file name field. I do not know the file names at the time of reading.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
    While you read the file, you can configure an adapter property in 'Receive'. This will store the filename, this filename can be used for sync read as the input parameter.
    1. Create a message type variable called 'fileheader'. This should be of type Inboundheader_msg (whatever relevant Receive activity).
    2. This variable will contain three parts - filename, FTPhost, FTPPort
    3. Copy this fileheader to 'Syncheader'.
    4. syncheader can be passed as an adapter proerty during sync read of the file.
    During Receive and Invoke, you need to navigate to 'Adapter' tab to choose the created message type variable.
    Let me know if you have further questions.
    regards,

  • Error while reading excel file from application server into internal table.

    Hi experts,
    My requirement is to read an excel file from application server into internal table.
    Hence I have created an excel file fm_test_excel.xls in desktop and uploaded to app server using CG3Z tcode (as BIN file type).
    Now in my program I have used :
    OPEN DATASET v_filename FOR INPUT IN text mode encoding default.
    DO.
    READ DATASET v_filename INTO wa_tab.
    The statement OPEN DATASET works fine but I get a dump (conversion code page error) at READ DATASET statement.
    Error details:
    A character set conversion is not possible.
    At the conversion of a text from codepage '4110' to codepage '4103':
    - a character was found that cannot be displayed in one of the two
    codepages;
    - or it was detected that this conversion is not supported
    The running ABAP program 'Y_READ_FILE' had to be terminated as the conversion
    would have produced incorrect data.
    The number of characters that could not be displayed (and therefore not
    be converted), is 445. If this number is 0, the second error case, as
    mentioned above, has occurred.
    An exception occurred that is explained in detail below.
    The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_SY_CONVERSION_CODEPAGE', was not
    caught and
    therefore caused a runtime error.
    The reason for the exception is:
    Characters are always displayed in only a certain codepage. Many
    codepages only define a limited set of characters. If a text from a
    codepage should be converted into another codepage, and if this text
    contains characters that are not defined in one of the two codepages, a
    conversion error occurs.
    Moreover, a conversion error can occur if one of the needed codepages
    '4110' or '4103' is not known to the system.
    If the conversion error occurred at read or write of  screen, the file
    name was '/usr/sap/read_files/fm_test_excel.xls'. (further information about
    the file: "X 549 16896rw-rw----201105170908082011051707480320110517074803")
    Also let me know whether this is the proper way of reading excel file from app server, if not please suggest an alternative .
    Regards,
    Karthik

    Hi,
    Try to use OPEN DATASET v_filename FOR INPUT IN BINARY mode encoding default. instead of OPEN DATASET v_filename FOR INPUT IN text mode encoding default.
    As I think you are uploading the file in BIN format to Application server and trying to open text file.

  • What are the commands available to read a file from application server and

    What are the commands available to read a file from application server and store the file into an internal table?

    Hi,
    To read a file from an Application Server to an Object there is a command in ABAP called <b>READ DATASET</b>. After that file is transported to that object you have to do a loop and put that data in an Internal Table.
    This statement exports data from the file specified in dset into the data object dobj. For dobj, variables with elementary data types and flat structures can be specified. In Unicode programs, dobj must be character-type if the file was opened as a text file.
    For dset, a character-type data object is expected - that is, an object that contains the platform-specific name of the file. The content is read from the file starting from the current file pointer. After the data transfer, the file pointer is positioned after the section that was read. Using the MAXIMUM LENGTH addition, the number of characters or bytes to be read from the file can be limited. Using ACTUAL LENGTH, the number of characters or bytes actually used can be determined.
    In a Unicode program, the file must be opened with an arbitrary access type; otherwise, an exception that cannot be handled will be triggered.
    If the file has not yet been opened in anon-Unicode program, it will be implicitly opened as a binary file for read access using the statement
    OPEN DATASET dset FOR INPUT IN BINARY MODE.
    . If a non-existing file is accessed, an exception that can be handled can be triggered.
    Influence of Access Type
    Files can be read independently of the access type. Whether data can be read or not depends solely on the position of the file pointer. If the latter is at the end of the file or after the file, no data can be read and sy-subrc will be set to 4.
    Influence of the Storage Type
    The import function will take place irrespective of the storage type in which the file was opened with the statement OPEN DATASET.
    If the file was opened as a text file or as a legacy text file, the data is normally read from the current position of the file pointer to the next end-of-line marking, and the file pointer is positioned after the end-of-line marking. If the data object dobj is too short for the number of read characters, the superfluous characters and bytes are cut off. If it is longer, it will be filled with blanks to the right.
    If the file was opened as a binary file or as a legacy-binary file, as much data is read that fits into the data object dobj. If the data object dobj is longer than the number of exported characters, it is filled with hexadecimal 0 on the right.
    If the specified storage type makes conversion necessary, this is executed before the assignment to the data object dobj. Afterwards, the read data is placed, byte by byte, into the data object.
    System Fields
    sy-subrc Meaning
    0 Data was read without reaching end of file.
    4 Data was read and the end of the file was reached or there was an attempt to read after the end of the file.
    Thanks,
    Samantak.

    The XML file contains the details from an IDOC number  ,  the expected output  is XML file giving  all the segments details in a single page and send the user in lotus note as an attachment, But in the  present  output  after opening the attachment  i am getting a single XML file  which contains most of the segments ,but in the bottom part it is giving  the below error .
    - <E1EDT13 SEGMENT="1">
      <QUALF>001</QUALF>

  • Every time I open Firefox 4 I get a popup box saying: "OPENING FIREFOX SETUP 4.0.1.exe, Binary File from..." with different download link addresses

    Every time I open Firefox 4 a popup box keeps trying to get me to run setup again. The box always reads: "Opening Firefox Setup 4.0.1.exe, Binary File from...." followed by a link address, which is different every time. Recent addresses: http://mirror.umoss.org.......also http://mozilla.mirrors.tds.net....also http://mozilla.ussg.indiana.edu
    and so on.
    Help! Thanks!

    I am having the same problem and it seems to have just started (6/15/11). I have tried reloading the program several times and even the first release of the 4.o with no success. The same scenario also occurs when I click to open a new "tab" after the browser is already launched.

  • Read Binary File, T=1

    Hello,
    I'm trying to read a binary file from a card.
    This is something I can easily do, at least until now :)
    I'm testing a new card (with protocol T=1 instead of the T=0 I used so far) and I don't have the card technical document (with the APDUs format) but I guess the APDUs are the same (for the read binary command and other more general commands like the select and others alike).
    I can select the pretended files and navigate in the card EFs/DFs, but for some reason I cant read a complete binary file (it stops before the last block reading).
    This is the code I have used so far without problems:
    private static byte[] readBinary() throws CardException, IOException {
      //CardChannel channel = getCardChannel();
      ByteArrayOutputStream os = new ByteArrayOutputStream(256);
      boolean finished = false;
      byte offset = (byte) 0x00;
      int i=1;
      while (!finished) {
         //Read binary command
         ResponseAPDU resp = channel.transmit(new CommandAPDU(0x00, 0xB0, offset,
                   0x00, READ_BUFFER_LENGTH));
         i++;
         byte[] data = resp.getData();
         offset = (byte) (offset + (byte) 0x01);
         os.write(data);
         if (data.length < READ_BUFFER_LENGTH) {
              finished = true;
      return os.toByteArray();
    }Where READ_BUFFER_LENGTH = 256
    If with the other cards I tested this code works fine why doesn't it work with this card? The only difference is at the transport protocol, this card protocol is T=1 and the other cards was T=0, but I thought that PC/SC would hide the transport protocol layer
    Thanks for any help

Java Card tries to hide the underlying protocol used, but it is not quite possible with T=0. You need to know what APDU case you're expecting for CLA/INS in order to pick up the data field or send outgoing data.
    What error do you get?

  • Read binary file (DOC, PDF, TIF,...) into SAP with JCO-Server

    Hallo,
    I want to read a binary file (DOC, PRD, TIF,...) within a JCO-Server and transfer this file to SAP.
    In SAP we want to store the file in DMS.
    Next step is to read a file from DMS and store the file external using the JCO-Server.
    My questions are:
    1. How can I upload/download any binary in JAVA
    2. How have I to define the communication tabel between SAP and JCO to transfer the data (string,char, raw) and how long must be a row.
    Maybe any code exsamples ?
    Thanks

    We found the way how to define the tables so we can transfer the data between SAP an Java.

  • Read binary file 10 bytes at a time

    I want to read binary file in a specific format. There is a number at the starting of the file. That tells us where the data is starting. Suppose it says 3975, then it mean data starts at 3975. Then once I read that location I want to read data at 10bytes at a time and then convert it to numeric and display it on graph. I am attaching the file format and the current vi which I am using. please help.

    Ah, the first 10 characters are a string!
    After opening the file, use the Read From Text File with count set to 10.  Then use the Decimal String to Number to convert this string into your "record size".
    NOTE:  The text indicator was just for debug purposes.  You don't really need it.
