Oracle recommanded

COULD U PLZ TEL ME..WHAT IS ORACLE RECOMMENDED WHETHER IS PHYSICAL OR LOGICAL STANDBY.IF LOGICAL STANDBY MEANS HOW CAN WE SWITCHOVER DATABASE DURING FAILS..

It depends on your needs,there's no general answer. And how to handle standby environments is well explained in the documentation:

  • Oracle Character sets with PeopleSoft - AL32UTF8 vs. UTF8

    We currently have PeopleSoft FInancials v8.8 with PeopleTools 8.45 running on Oracle 9.2.0.8 with the UTF8 character set.
    We plan to upgrade to Oracle 10.2, and want to know if we can and should also convert the character set to AL32UTF8.
    Any issues?
    (A couple of years ago, we were told that AL32UTF8 was not yet supported in PeopleSoft).

    Right now, something strange, Oracle recommand do not use anymore UTF8, and Peoplesoft recommand do not use AL32UTF8 yet.
    You can read the solution id #719906, but anyway, AL32UTF8 on PT8.4x should works fine.

  • How many control file should be created in ASM for ORACLE 4 nodes RAC

    We have a oracle 10G(10.2.0.4) database with 4 nodes locates ASM in redhat linux5.
    The vendor created this RAC system with database.
    I saw below infornation as
    SQL> select name from GV_$CONTROLFILE;
    NAME
    +FLSDISK1/sale/controlfile/current.256.690290159
    +FLSDISK1/sale/controlfile/current.256.690290159
    +FLSDISK1/sale/controlfile/current.256.690290159
    +FLSDISK1/sale/controlfile/current.256.690290159
    It seems that each node with one control file.
    I got a feedback that vender claimed SAN is very reliable.
    I am new person for database at ASM for RAC.
    Could you make a explain for this condition? Do I need to add ( mirror) another 2 control file into ASM?
    The Oracle recommands that at least 2 contril files( best 3 files) in different place. This is true for signle instance.
    How about RAC that database locates in ASM?
    Please help me!!
    Jim

    You are fine using the standard three controlfiles in ASM, four is fine too, but it does not need to be tied to the number of instances as all the instances in a RAC database use the same controlfile (and its copies). ASM knows the controlfile type and will stripe each one in 128k pieces across as many volumes as it can. I much prefer to have my controlfiles in ASM, it prevents accidental deletion and generally makes DBA life easier.
    Cheers!

  • What about security in adf faces application ?

    It seem that the documentation has a little bit changed about security for adf faces application.
    SRDemo J2EE sample application only implemented the security at the web container and may be for the session beans (don't remember) by using security-role and security-constraint in web.xml configuration file.
    It seem that the documentation recommand now to implement adf security and didn't find anymore the reference to the standard j2ee security implementation.
    We found also that the security constraints checked by the web container was sometimes ignored and the container didn't ask us to login before displaying a page.
    Is ADF security a clear Oracle recommandation for ADF Faces application ?
    What about j2ee security for this type of application (why it is not recommended to use it) ?

    Hi,
    there is no single recommedation about security because security ideally is applied on several levels to implement security in depth. Container managed security with J2EE is a good option to secure page access and - if using EJB - to propagate the user identity for method level access control.
    Using ADF Security, which is security added to the binding layer based on JAAS, a second layer of the security onion becomes available that allows you to define which user is allowed to perform which operation on an iterator or attribute binding. This goes beyond of what container managed security can do for you.
    The thrid layer is business layer security and eventually database security.
    For Oracle Open World we will have a developmengt track and one of the presentation I am giving with Ric Smith from our team is about end-to-end application security for ADF Faces, ADF, ADF BCor TopLink/EJB and the Oracle database.
    The plan is to also write this up in a paper, but this would come late because of other priorities I have on my plate. So attending OOW probably is the best option for you to get the big picture

  • Redo log best practice for performace - ASM 11g

    Hi All,
    I am new to ASM world....can you please give your valuable suggestion on below topic.
    What is the best practice for online redo log files ? I read it somewhere that oracle recommand to have only two disk group one for the all DB fils, control files online redo log files and other disk group for recovery files, like mulitplex redo file, archive log files etc.
    Will there be any performance improvment to make different diskgroup for online redo log (separate from datafiles, contorl files etc) ?
    I am looking for oracle document to find the best practise for redo log (peformance) on ASM.
    Please share your valuable views on this.
    Regards.

    ASM is only a filesystem.
    What really count on performance about I/O is the Storage Design i.e (RAID used, Array Sharing, Hard Disk RPM value, and so on).
    ASM itself is only a layer to read and write on ASM DISK. What mean if you storage design is ok ... ASM will be ok. (of course there is best pratices on ASM but Storage must be in first place)
    e.g There is any performance improvement make different Diskgroup?
    Depend...and this will lead to another question.
    Is the Luns on same array?
    If yes the performance will end up on same point. No matter if you have one or many diskgroup.
    Coment added:
    Comparing ASM to Filesystem in benchmarks (Doc ID 1153664.1)
    Your main concern should be how many IOPs,latency and throughput the storage can give you. Based on these values you will know if your redologs will be fine.

  • Do we need to configure webgate & HTTP server two times

    Hi Experts,
    Our requirement is need to integrate EBS and OBIEE with OAM 11g for SSO.
    For integrating EBS, oracle recommanding HTTP server, webgate and accessgate.
    At the same time do we need to configure separate webgate and HTTP for OBIEE also otherwise we can use common webgate & HTTP server for both EBS and OBIEE.
    Can anyone please advise me.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Hussein,
    Thanks for reply,

  • Switching database to archive log mode

    1.When I switch the database to archive log mode,
    I have to do full offline(consistent) backup.
    2.When the database is working in archive log mode
    I can do inconsistent(online) backups.
    Why is there consistent backup needed after swiching
    to archive log mode, is there not inconsistent backup
    enough after switching (the databease operates
    in archive log mode and as in point 2 I can make inconsistent backups).

    Hello,
    Oracle recommands to do offline backup after switching to archivelog as an immediate crash-recovery procedure. Look at the following example:
    1/ You switch your base to archivelog.
    2/ Work is started right away.
    3/ Your DB crashes => You got your archived redo logs, but none of the other files.
    Now, let's put a
    1b/ Backup (offline) your database.
    Now, in 3, youg got everything you need to restore the base, because 3 can happen WHILE your are ONLINE Backing up the base.
    That's the point.
    Regards,
    Yoann.

    This is a correct method for OLD versions
    See correct value for AUDIT_TRAIL in 10g : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams016.htm#REFRN10006
    From a security point of view, the best is to audit into OS (syslog : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/network.102/b14266/auditing.htm#sthref1168)
    From a day-by-day point of view, the simplier is to audit into DB (SYS.AU$)
    Thoses parameters are not dynamic but you've to modify thoses in spfile, as Oracle recommand using spifile instead of pfile.
    svrmgrl no longer exist, you have to do this in sqlplus.

  • RAC on windows 2000 with domain controller

    Guys,
    I need advise on the following implementation.
    We have 2 IBM Xseries 365 Servers , 1 FastT600 Storage Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Oracle 9i, Oracle RAC
    We have plan of integrating 2 servers in Windows 2000 Cluster, one server would act as Domain Controller and second will act as Additional Domain Controller in the MS Cluster. We would be installing Oracle 9i Enterprise s/w on each one of these server's internal disks and datafiles on shared storage ( FastT600 ).. We would need to install Oracle RAC as well. As per Oracle recommandation, the cluster nodes shouldn't act as Domain controller. We didn't find any logical and techinical answer for this recommandation. Can anyone guide me as why is it so? and any issue may arise if we don't have separate doamin controller?
    Is it really required to have separate Domain controller ?
    Early replies would be appretiated..
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sam

    Hello hanspjacobsen,
    1. According to the subjects System Requrements - Windows 2008 R2 Domain Controllers do support
    Windows 8.1/2012 R2 admx deployment with some limitations regarding down-level server version of course. So yes - you can download and use it. Doubtfully the GPO presence in AD could
    harm Exchange in any way.
    2. With the course of updates for Exchange 2010 and Windows Server - I'm pretty sure we can expect Exchange 2010 supporting W2012 R2 DCs with close upcoming updates. So the full interoperability for those two is just a matter of little time.

  • Altering Hash Partition table

    Hi ,
    version: 10gR2
    I have a table that built with 5 hash partitions.
    Since oracle recommand that hash partition table should built with power of two
    (e.g: 2,4,8,16...) partition , i would like to rebuilt the table with 8 hash partition.
    Its a table that contain more then 100 milion records and its size is more then 2 giga.
    I understand that there isnt any: alter table .. for this kind of issue.
    Please advice me what is the best way to do this task.
    Thanks.

  • Apps Form Query

    Hi,
    I have following queries
    -> Why oracle recommands to use appcore2 instead of appcore library in forms
    -> How u will conclude that the form u developed consists of Apps features
    Regards
    Krishna

    Because custom.pll is attached to appcore by default, so if you attached appcore to custom.pll it will have circular reference. Use appcore2 instead.
    To ensure your form has apps feature, use template.fmb taken from $AU_TOP

  • Problem in installing oracle database patch 10.2.0.3 on AIX 6.1

    Hi,
    I have to install oracle 10g on AIX6.1 so for that i have first installed 10.2.0.1 and then now trying to install patch 10.2.0.3 as AIX6.1 is certified form this patch only
    when i tried to install patch silently using the following command it gives me the following
    su - oracle -c "/p5337014_10203_AIX64-5L/Disk1/runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs -silent -force -debug \
    FROM_LOCATION="/p5337014_10203_AIX64-5L/Disk1/stage/products.xml" \
    ORACLE_HOME="/oracle/product/10.2.0.1.0" \
    ORACLE_HOME_NAME="OraDb10g" \
    TOPLEVEL_COMPONENT='{"oracle.patchset.db","10.2.0.3.0"}'"2>&1
    it gave me a message :
    Your platform requires the root user to perform certain pre-installation
    OS preparation. The root user should execute '/usr/sbin/slibclean' on all the nodes before
    you proceed with Patchset Installation.
    Answer 'y' if root has run '/usr/sbin/slibclean' so you can proceed with Oracle
    Patchset installation.
    Answer 'n' to abort installation and then ask root to run '/usr/sbin/slibclean'.
    Has '/usr/sbin/slibclean' been run by root? [y/n] (n)
    could you tell me what does it mean... also how to remove this message. I mean i want that i will execute the command and then patch should be installed without any little interaction.(this message should not appear)

    Why don't you (or your system administrator) simply do,what the message recommands?
    The root user should execute '/usr/sbin/slibclean' You cannot remove the message itself. Run 'slibclean' and answer 'Y'. Unfortunately on the AIX platform it interrupts a silent installation.

  • Can't install Oracle 9i on RHEL4

    Hello,
    I'm trying to install oracle 9.2.0.4 on a Linux Red Hat 4 server (32 bits), which already hosts Oracle 10g.
    runInstaller displays errors during the linking phase :
    "Error in invoking target ctx_on of makefile $ORACLE_HOME/rdmbs/lib/ins_rdbms.mk"
    "Error in invoking target sdo_on of makefile $ORACLE_HOME/rdmbs/lib/ins_rdbms.mk"
    I've tried to follow all recommandations on this website : http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml
    and I tried the following tricks to solve the problem :
    Edit the file $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/lib/env_ctx.mk, go to "INSO_LINK =", and add a "$(LDLIBFLAG)dl" to the line and save it.
    Here is the full line with the added "$(LDLIBFLAG)dl" flag:
    INSO_LINK = -L$(CTXLIB) $(LDLIBFLAG)m $(LDLIBFLAG)dl $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ca $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_fa $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ex $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_da $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ut $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ch $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_fi $(LLIBCTXHX) $(LDLIBFLAG)c -Wl,-rpath,$(CTXHOME)lib $(CORELIBS) $(COMPEOBJS)
    After that hit retry in the error popup.
    -> didn't work
    If this didn't work, then try the following:
    Edit the file $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/lib/env_ctx.mk again, go to "INSO_LINK =", remove the above entry you made and add a "`cat $(LIBHOME)/sysliblist`" to the line and save it.
    Here is the full line with the added "`cat $(LIBHOME)/sysliblist`" string:
    INSO_LINK = -L$(CTXLIB) $(LDLIBFLAG)m `cat $(LIBHOME)/sysliblist` $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ca $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_fa $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ex $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_da $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ut $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ch $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_fi $(LLIBCTXHX) $(LDLIBFLAG)c -Wl,-rpath,$(CTXHOME)lib $(CORELIBS) $(COMPEOBJS)
    After that hit retry in the error popup.
    -> didn't work
    Edit the file $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh and change the following line:
    LD_SELF_CONTAINED="-z defs"
    to read:
    LD_SELF_CONTAINED=""
    After that run the script $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh as the user "oracle"
    I got this :
    ./genclntsh
    Created /oracle/product/9.2/lib/libclntst9.a
    but runInstaller is still stuck
    In the make.log, I get this message :
    /usr/bin/make -f ins_rdbms.mk ctx_on ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/9.2
    make: *** no rule to make target /oracle/product/9.2/rdbms/lib/kciwcx.o, needed by ctx_on. Stop
    I don't know what else to do.
    Can anybody plesae help ?

  • Solaris 8 in ultra 2 got panic and auto reboot when install Oracle software

    Dear all,
    I installed Solaris 8 by selecting 'Entire Solaris Software Group' and select 32 bit support only in an old ultra II machine. Then I tried to install Oracle 8.1.7 in the same machine but machine always got panic and started auto reboot when Oracle installed about 17% or 20% or even 70% (I tried install the minimum of Oracle).
    What is the problem? Anyone can help?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vicky

    I think you need to check the parameters like SHMMAX etc in /etc/system file as recommanded by oracle if not already added you need to add them .Oracle manuals have a list of these parameters and don't forget to reboot and boot with boot -r after adding these parameters.
    Make sure you have sufficient memory or some patch recommanded by Oracle .
