Oracle report installation and system flow

Please help me to give some inputs for the oracle development. The 12 reports wont integrate with the existing system because it was not built by us and also I want to know how the oracle report installation will be done. Please update my diagram scenario of the proposed solution as below
Problems Faced in the existing system:-
================================
•     12 Critical Finance Reports not generated according to user requirements
•     Most of basic feature for reporting purposes are not implemented in current system which is in Oracle Apps 11i - E-Business Suite
•     Takes a lot of time to prepare reports which are needed to be presented for management meetings.
Proposed System
===============
Expectation
•     The finance dept plans to redevelop 12 new critical reports for their system
•     The new implementation must be compatible with the future migration of current Oracle Apps 11i - E-Business Suite to Oracle Apps version 12.
Solution
The new development will be built using the oracle reports and won’t be integrated with the existing application. Oracle reports do not require any specific installation to be done at client PC.
Advantages
•     If it's from a desktop users may find it easier to fire the reports as they may not require to login to Apps.
•     When the Report is displayed, the user can simply generate the report to several formats like PDF, XLS, HTML, RTF, XML etc.
•     Oracle Reports is reliable: You can serve thousands of concurrent users in a secure and reliable manner.
•     Oracle Reports has the ability to apply changes to a report based on a customization file in XML either at runtime or in batch.
Proposed system flow for Oracle reports development
=========================================
12 reports to be installed onto the Red Hat AS3 system <--------------Red Hat AS3(Oracle E-Business Suite Ver 11i (Apps) and Oracle Database Ver 9.2.0.5) -----> Oracle Database

There are groups specific to e-Business Suite. Please delete this post and post your inquiry there.

  • Installed Oracle reports 6i and 9.04 form home

    I had Oracle Forms 4.5. & Report 3.1. in my old system (windows NT).
    My goal is to upgrade Oracle Forms & Reports onto 10g DS.
    I used windows XP for this purpose.
    I have successfully ungraded Oracle Forms to 10g.
    First I installed Forms 6i. (applied latest patches)
    I opened all forms from the 4.5 into 6i and make its work.
    I have installed Oracle Forms 10g in another/Separate Oracle Home & applied
    latest patches.They have upgraded.
    Now I need to do same process for Oracle Report.
    So I start install Oracle Reports 6i.
    My goal is to install Oracle Reports in separate Oracle Home.
    But It does not ask any directory.
    And its starts installing under Oracle Forms (9.0.4) Oracle Home.
    I was so late to stop installation.
    Now I am not able to use Oracle Forms 10g.

    hello,
    i am afraid you destroyed your installation, or at least messed it up.
    i would suggest you install 6i first, and then install 10g (9.0.4) that way you can install 10g in a separate home. not sure if the 6i installer was multi-home capable.
    thanks,
    ph.

  • Oracle reports builder and Win7 aero theme

    Hi,
    I did sucessfully instaled Oracle reports builder 10gR2 (e.g. Oracle Developer Suite 10gR2 and patch 10.1.2.3) on Win7 x64 Enterprize. There was a few workarounds, but it is now ok.
    Everything works just fine now, but that blink and baloon message that came on change of color sheme to Windows classic is annoying! Every time I run the Report Builder, windows is forced to change the Aero scheme ti Classic. OK, I figgured out, that if I do not use Aero, this is not an issue anymore. For me it's ok, but other developers in our company will not be glad :)
    The same problem persist at Oracle SQL developer, but there is a solution for it with little change in "sqldeveloper.conf" file "AddVMOption -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true" .
    Is there any similar setting for Report builder too?
    I would be werry appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    Have you used 64-bit binaries?
    Here are the steps that you need to make sure you have accomplished themL
    1- JDK 64 bits to be used
    2- wls1036_generic.jar (java -jar wls1036_generic.jar) or wls1035_generic.jar . It is mandatory to use java from a 64 bits distribution. Using java 32 bits will cause problems.
    3- ofm_frmrpts_win_11.1.2.0.0_64_disk1_1of1.zip
    An workaround is offered in the following thread:
    Oracle Reports 11g installation problem

  • Interfacing of oracle report builder and java

    hi all,
    I have build a report using Oracle Report Builder 10g.Now i want to make use of this report in displaying the data in IE using core java.
    This is the first time i am using the Oracle Report Builder .
    Can anyone tell me how to proceed in right direction?Do i need to have some specific Jar,Environment to accomplish this task?
    Thanks in advance

    I'm not sure what version of the product you're using, but since you're just installing it may well be the base version (6.0.8.8.3).
    Similar issues were addressed in a patch release (6.0.8.12), which was related to issues with some types of keyboard. You may want to upgrade to the latest patch release and retry.

    Have a look at the reports help for the purpose header and trailer sections. Here is an exert:
    "Report sectioning enables you to define multiple layouts in the same report, each with a different target audience, output format, page layout, page size, or orientation. You can define up to three report sections, each with a body area and a margin area: the names of the sections are Header, Main, and Trailer. By default, a report is defined in the Main section. In the other sections, you can define different layouts, rather than creating multiple separate reports. If you wish, you can use the margin and body of the Header and Trailer sections to create a Header and Trailer page for your reports."

  • I have the new Oracle 8i installer and here is why

    I have been trying to get Oracle 8i on Linux and I feel that I
    must share
    my thoughts on the new Oracle installer with everybody.
    I hate the new installer. I used to run the installer from
    home over my
    128Kbps connection while I was connected to the office machines,
    because it
    was simple text based. And Oracle 8i has changed all that!
    I have nothing against GUI based installers, only when they have
    a little too
    many animated images that eat up bandwidth. I had to drive all
    the way to
    the office because I did not have sufficient bandwidth to display
    the darn
    ringing bell animated image. This is strictly the mentality of
    Windows users
    who like to work on the console of servers.
    And check this out:
    line 118 in my install log file at :
    /usr/local/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log
    says :
    platGroup = WINDOWS
    And this is on Linux!!! Maybe the Oracle folks are forgetting
    that Linux
    users are a little too sensitive to these kind of mistakes. :)
    This also supports my theory that the new installer is a gift
    from Windows
    programmers. Who are not too familiar with the idea of being
    able to send
    their video display to any computer around the world and work
    from there.
    A feature every Linux user takes for granted
    There are numerous other bugs in the installer and other routines
    of Oracle
    8i for Linux. Some of them I will list here:
    2. The installation types screen list 3 options:
    Typical, Minimal and Custom.
    Somehow Minimal takes more disk space (642 MB) compared to
    Typical (585 MB).
    Well that is what the installation screen says. I have not tried
    to install
    using the minimal install.
    3. The installation cant figure out how much free space is
    available on the /
    partition. Is it that hard? Its gives warnings about how I may
    not have
    enough space.
    4. dbassist cant find the cdrom if you try to install the default
    database
    from CDROM. It says cannot find CDROM even if you have all your
    stuff under
    /mnt/cdrom
    5. The docs talk about software mount points and data mount
    points /u01 /u02
    /u03 and /u04 that I created, but I could not find anywhere to
    specify them
    like I was able to, with the last release.
    6. "Oracle Protocol Support" section during the install shows no
    options at
    all. What happened to good ole Net8?
    And many others. This product is a joke.

    My sentiments exactly. There are so many bugs in the
    installation of this release that I have just about given up.
    And I haven't even started testing the new features yet!
    I've tried the install on RedHat 6.0 straight out of the box (no
    patches or updates applied) and followed the OIG and release
    notes to the letter. Clearly, no one at Oracle did the same,
    because there are many problems during install. I finally got a
    simple database running, but there are some real gotcha's along
    the way.
    Here are just a few of the bugs I've encountered:
    1. Zero length library file $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libnjni8.so.
    Netasst doesn't work without it. Someone said they posted the
    source code to the comp.databases.oracle.server newsgroup, but I
    can't find it.
    2. Database Creation Assistant thinks dbmssql.sql is called
    dbmssml.sql.
    3. Building the Intelligent Agent with TCL 7.5 causes a cascade
    of undefined references when running gmake -f ins_oemagent.mk
    agent
    4. Database Creation Assistant doesn't understand OFA. It wants
    to put all of the database files /u01/app/oracle/oradata/<sid> !
    5. Database Creation Assistant will sometimes prevent editing
    the data file names to put them in OFA compliant directories.
    I am appreciative of the free developer licenses for so many
    Oracle products, but this is the worst Oracle install I've had
    in 12 years.

  • Text output from Oracle Reports 6 and Apps

    I am trying to write a couple of reports with Oracle Reports 6i that will be used as a comma delimited text file for import into other applications. I have the reports written and registered with Oracle Apps. However, I am having two problems that I can not figure out. (1) When the report is
    exectuted and saved as a text file, it will not import into other programs such as Access, giving an error that one line contains too many characters. If I open the text file, there is a blank line (actually a new line with no data) at the very end. When I delete this new line so the cursor is
    positioned after the last character of text and save the file - it will import fine. How do I avoid this problem? (2) One report has a lot of columns, and the data always comes out wrapped, even though it isn't
    wrapped in the report writer that I can tell. The "wrapping" option on the text editor is turned off, so it looks like a new line is actually being created. Any ideas would be appreciated!

  • Oracle Reports Server and X11

    Does oracle reports server need X11 running? We dont run X on our
    prod servers. We can't really figure out why it needs it which the developers
    claims they need X running
    Are there any alternatives? We really don't want to start an X server here

    hello,
    the role is the same on all plattforms. the reports server takes requests for running reports, spawns an engine that executes the request. in addition to that, the server also provides scheduling services and security features for the reports environment.

    Could you please elaborate more? What do you exactly want? You can run any sql at SQL*Plus and take the output as report
    You can use Oracle Reports to create a report or you can use Crystall Reports as third part utility

    I have installed the d2k 6.i pack on my NT desktop and am pointing to a 8.1.5 database on another machine. All I have is the Webdb listener up and running. No other Webserver as I was told this was all I needed to run reports on my desktop on the Web.

    1. Yes you need a web server
    2. the env. vars:
    REPORT60_VIRTUAL_MAP,
    REPORTS60_PHYSICAL_MAP, and
    REPORT60_SHARED_CACHE
    are no longer needed.
    3. The 'community' part of the Reports sever entry in your tnsnames.ora isn't required.

  • Oracle Reports 6i and the Dynamic SQL

    I use Oracle 8.1.7 and Oracle Reports 6i Builder;
    My problem is that I am trying to obtain dataset for the report via stored procedure (using ref cursor). As far as I understand I must specify strongly typed refcursor in my package (specify record type based of which the ref cursor will be created, not just ref cursor without any return specification). But when it comes to my stored procedure implementation, here I would like to use dynamically created SELECT statement and since it will be parsed and executed at runtime I forced to use only untyped ref cursor to return data from the stored procedure.
    TYPE my_refcur IS REF CURSOR;
    cv_tmp my_refcur;
    v_SQL VARCHAR2(2000);
    BEGIN
    -- here I set v_SQL ....
    OPEN cv_tmp
    FOR v_SQL;
    RETURN cv_tmp;
    END;
    But this way I somehow need to convert untyped ref cursor to strongly typed one. This is a problem I would like you to help me with.
    Thanks in advise.
    By the way, I am not familiar with Oracle Reports 9. Does it still require to return only strongly typed ref cursor from stored procedures?

    Hello Alexey,
    The reason Reports requires strongly typed ref cursors to be returned to it is that, with weak ref cursors the list of columns returned by the cursor cannot be determined at report design time. For a weak ref cursor, the data will be populated based on a query specified only at runtime. As a result, you will not be able to add any layout to your report, since the query group will be empty.
    Please take a look at the reply in the post below on the same topic, for a method to retrieve data from a stored procedure returning a weakly typed ref cursor:

  • Oracle SLA Metrics and System Level Metrics Best Practices

    I hope this is the right forum...
    Hey everyone,
    This is what I am looking for. We have several SLA's setup and we have defined many Business Metrics and we are trying to map them to System level metrics. One key area for us is Oracle. I was wondering is there is a best practice guide out there for SLA's when dealing with Oracle or even better, System Level Metric best practices.
    Any help would be ideal please.

    Hi
    Can you also include the following in the FAQ?
    1) ODP.NET if installed prior to this beta version - what is the best practice ? De-install it prior to getting this installed etc ..
    2) As multiple Oracle home's have become the NORM these days - this being a Client only should probably be non-intrusive and non-invasive.. Hope that is getting addressed.
    3) Is this a pre-cursor to the future happenings like some of the App-Server evolving to support .NET natively and so on??
    4) Where is BPEL in this scheme of things? Is that getting added to this also so that Eclipse and .NET VS 2003 developers can use some common Webservice framework??
