Oracle Reports 9I generate output in excel

Report Builder 9.0.4.0.33
I tried generating output to Excel using 10GR2 Report builder using SPREADSHEET for destype on the web and it works.
The requirement is for this one customer who is on 9I and they are asking for excel output functiuonality on thier existing reports.
Does oracle has a patch or any other way to generate the exisitng reports on 91 where we can give them a selection like SPREADSHEET in the parameter screen and it would generate the report in excel.
Thanks
I tried by appending below to the url in the before report trigger.
&mimetype=application/vnd.ms-excel
which works but, we give other selections to the user too where they can change the desformat to PDF or HTMLCSS...and they all try to open the report output in excel.

Thank you Lalitk and Dennis,
My team mate wrote a javascript function on before report trigger that checks the paramter selection for desformat and append the mimetype accordingly.Hence, able to achieve the functionality.
Thanks.

  • Moan about Reports ability to output to Excel

    Hi there
This is more of a general moan on this topic, but am I the only person who thinks that Oracle Reports' ability to output to excel should be WAY better than it is at the moment?
I've just looked at the 9i demo, showing how to get report output into excel. It was horrific - grubbing round in raw html code and setting up an Excel template with dummy data doesn't make Reports the slick reporting tool that we'd all like.
Guys @ Oracle - have a look at Cognos Impromptu - I'm definitely no fan of Cognos, as I prefer to be able to define exactly what I want in SQL. However, one thing they have got right is the facility to save report output into formatted Excel - Oracle Reports should have this too!!
At the moment, if I'm asked to produce a report in Excel format, I have to either use PL/SQL to generate a CSV file with the results I want, or Oracle Reports to produce a similar CSV file. I then have to open the CSV file in Excel and format it, change column widths etc, so that it looks presentable. If it's a regular-running report, I have to manually intervene every time the report is produced. Producing a similar report in Cognos (for all its faults) would require no manual intervention once it's set up, and the whole process can be controlled with macro language and the Cognos Scheduler.
So please, improve this feature of Reports!

    Hello again
All I'd like to be able to do is to write an Oracle Report and have the figures from the report delivered in an Excel spreadsheet. (A number of report users here specify that they want their reports delivered in this way.)
Oracle Reports (I'm on version 6i) allows me to generate a .csv file which will open in Excel, but there's no formatting present. My point was simply that I have to manually intervene to produce a .xls which is formatted properly. In Cognos Impromptu, after the report has been run, you just select SaveAs->(input filename) and select 'Excel with Format' for SaveAs Type. The output is a pretty good approximation of how the output appears on the screen. You can run reports automatically using a scheduler, and with macro language, you can deliver the report in this format with no further intervention needed. If Cognos can do this, then so can Oracle!!
Incidentally, I've noticed that every post on this forum which mentions Excel receives a plug from Lion Van for his RepExcel product. I had a look at his website and it looks pretty good - perhaps Oracle should approach him with a generous offer?! I'm not sure however that these forums should be used for advertising in this way.

  • Oracle Report call Oracle Report to generate single output

Is it possible for an Oracle Report to call another Oracle Report and generate single output?
Report one is a form letter and the second report is the accompanying information described in the letter. The reports cannot be merged because the second report is very complex and used by many programs and purposes.
Using 6i on 10g database, currently migrating to 11g Reports and database.
    Thank you.

6i is not certified with 10g DatabaseWell, that is not completely true. 6i Even works and is partly certified against 11g, since Oracle Apps 11 is built in Developer 6i and certified against 11g.
To call a report from a report use SRW.RUN_REPORT.

  • XML publisher report not generating output for huge XML files

Changed Depreciation Projections Report output type to XML.
Defined a Data Definition and a new Data Template (RTF) for this report.
Ran the Depreciation Projection Report to generate the XML output.
Ran the XML Report Publisher report to generate teh PDF/Excel output of the above report.
Output generated for smaller XML files. When XML size is big, the program is running for hours without generating the output.
Teh RTF template is basically a matrix report in which the number of columns in the report is based on the number of periods the report is run for.
The same is not working in the Desktop version also. The system is hanging when i try to view the preview pdf.
The XML file size is approximately 33 MB.
Please let me know if there is any way we can increase the memory size to see the output.
    Thanks,
    Ram.

  • Oracle Reports in PDF output

    Hi everyone ,
    We are using Oracle 11g.
I have a custom Oracle report in PDF output. In some cases the value is changed. For example, when i run a query in toad i get a value 0.13, then I run my report, check the XML output - the value is still 0.13....but when I check the report output that is in the PDF format, the value is changed to 0.14. Do you have any ideas why it happens? Do I need a special coad in the rtf tag?
    Thank you

What command did you type in to run your report in Unix? Did you give the full path of your rdf file. I guess that the system may not be find your rdf file correctly.

  • Oracle Reports with XML output showing data as asterik character

    Hello,
I'm trying to create an Oracle report with xml output. Here is the issue I'm having some of the columns in my report are of datatype number. When I run the report and generate xml file the values for those columns(datatype number) are showing as (*) character, other columns are showing fine. But when I run the report as text output then data is fine. I don't understand why this is happening.
The property of column is Column Type - Database Scalar, Datatype - Number , width 0,-127.
Does the width has to do anything with this?
I'm using Report Builder 6.0.8.11.3, DB version 10g.

  • Export Reports 3.0 output to excel?

Any one please... is it possible to export reports 3.0 output to excel?
I dont want to upgrade to 10g or 11i now as my current version(forms 5.0 and reports3.0) is running smooth even on windows 7.
    thanks!

I think that even Reports 3.0 has an option desformat=delimited (which is the "excel" format).

  • Embedding Fonts in Oracle Reports with PDF output

I've read in the data sheet for Oracle reports that you can embed font in the PDF output, but I cannot seem to find any documentation on how this is done. Current we have PDF reports being generated using reports server on Compaq (Alpha based) server running TRUE64 UNIX. The reports server uses the fonts install on the Compaq to figure out the layout (we use auto-sized fields). When the PDF is displayed on a Windows client the fonts are substituted and the labels and fields overlap. I want to embed the UNIX fonts into the PDF so that the output is reproduced as it was generated.

You need to export as PDF (Interactive) and you also need to view the PDF in Reader or Acrobat 9 or later.

  • Oracle Report vs JSP efficiency and Excel XML in Web Source Questions

I have used Oracle Reports in the past 6i, but haven't used them in about 4 years. We are now using 9.0.4 reports and I am trying to generate Excel XML from an Oracle report by manipulating the web source of the report. Basically copying and pasting the Excel XML into the web source of the Oracle Report instead of html as suggested by this Metalink Doc ID 240819.1. I do have a JSP working example that generates Excel XML created in JDeveloper and successfully spawns off a very nice looking Excel spreadsheet.
However, a statement was made here by our app sever guy that an Oracle Report is more efficient at getting data from the database than a JSP. The app sever section does not want anyone using JSPs to generate a report of any kind. I guess small web pages are OK since our java guys use them all the time. This rule for a Reports only environment seems a little restrictive to me. Is there any truth to the statement that Oracle Reports bulk collects data in one chunk as opposed to a JSP making multiple trips to the database from the middle tier?
Secondly, if an Oracle Report is more efficient in the way that it collects large record sets from the db, and if I save an Oracle Report as a JSP not an rdf, and use the reports_tld.jar with the rw tags instead of the typical jsp jstl tags, will I still get the same improvement from using an Oracle report? I guess the improvement is in the library used correct?
Thirdly, although not part of this forum, I also am assuming that if we have single sign on that when I call a JSP from an Oracle Form I will not have to log in again correct?
    Thanks...

    # in Font Subsetting will take precedence over the entries in Font Embedding

    # Generic entries for a font must follow more specific entries for the same
    # font. For instance, if you want to subset helvetica Plain, helvetica Bold,
    # helvetica Italic and helvetica Bold-Italic fonts, your entries must be:
    # [ PDF:Subset ]
    # helvetica..Italic.Bold.. = "Arialbi.ttf"
    # helvetica...Bold.. = "Arialb.ttf"
    # helvetica..Italic... = "Ariali.ttf"
    # helvetica..... = "Arial.ttf"
    # If helvetica..... entry appears in the top of the list, all the styles of
    # helvetica font in the layout will be subset as helvetica Plain font.

  • Long formatting time for reports to generate output

    Hi all,
Would really be glad if someone could help out on the following problem. i've a few reports that takes up more than 20 minutes to get the output. The reason being is, it only takes about 1-2 minutes before the report starts to format the pages. The formatting part would take about 15-20 minutes to generate the output. My question is why is the report taking such a long time to format 1-2 pages?
