I would like to know what we can do with an XML generated with Oracle Forms in BI publisher.
I have never used BI publisher before.

I have used it to migrate Oracle Reports file. For simple reports it is usable. For complex ones you have to check manually and do some changes in the result

Problems with reports and XML-publisher - No XML

Hi!
I'm having a problem with Apps and XML-publisher. I made a report file, which queries some views. When executing in reports, I get all the data I expect.
Now, when I upload the reportfile to Apps and let it generate XML, my xml-file is empty (well, almost empty)

OK, finally solved the problem... A good night's sleep always helps ;).
After just trying each queried table one after an other, I found the problem:
The difference between Oracle Apps (Dutch locale) and the reports builder (English) is the language... And our functional people have changed some names, but the Dutch ones, leaving the english names in place and one of the tables I query has language specific data, which is also appears in a where clause.

Layout issue while trying Migrate Oracle Report to XML publisher Reports

I am trying to Convert Seeded Oracle Reports (rdf) to BI Publisher reports, in doing so encounter layout issues. The layout of the RTF , PDF or HTML generated by BI Publisher is different form the text, PDF or HTML outputs generated by the concurrent report. The problem with the BI Publisher template and out put
Is, the lay out is getting distorted .
Steps to archive the migration :
-     download the rdf from the server to local m/c.
-     execute Forms 9i Util rwconverter to generate a xml
-     use the oracle.apps.xdo.rdfparser.RTFTemplateGenerator API to generate a RTF template of the report layout
-     Then use this template to generate a XSL via oracle.apps.xdo.template.RTFProcessor API
-     The Apply the XSL on the XML data output of the report using oracle.apps.xdo.template.FOProcessor to generate RTF , PDF & HTML files.
Name of the Report used for migration “FSG - Report Detail Listing” , responsibility GL super User. This was just a random report we picked-up for trial.
The layout of these files seems to distorted than the layout of the original report output as generated by the rdf report.
Pls suggest some means to resolve this or any pointers towards what causing this could be of help.

The process of "converting" an old Oracle Reports rdf into a BIP report is more akin to writing a brand new report in BIP than to what most people would consider a true conversion.
The conversion routine outlined by Oracle just gives you a starting point for converting RDF layouts into BIP, and nothing more. In regards to the data define it does somewhat better generating your queries and XML layout (but honestly, that is the easy part), but even for the data define it will lose your formula columns as well as report triggers.
I have used the converter on several dozen rdf files and I have yet to see one that is better than 10-20% ready for use after the conversion process.
I would strongly suggest that you only convert the reports that you have to convert (for enhancements, modifications, etc). If it ain't broke in old Oracle Reports, dont' try to fix it in BIP.

Converting a simple Oracle Report to XML Publisher report template

Hello,
I have a simple Oracle Report 9i which displays data from four tables. It uses three different queries to get the data. How can I simply generate a template file(say RTF) or atleast an XML source from that report? I tried joining the queries (like outer join) but wasn't able to get the format which report 9i was generating. Could anyone please help me out with a clear approach?

Are you referring to how to get xml out put from seeded report i mean from EBS that already in oracle reports,
then you need to query from respective application by creating new concurrent program and then change the out put to XML, you will get xml file then save it to your system.
By using this input xml fle you can create RTF template whatever you want the foramat, after that you upload back this RTF file to EBS using XML PUBLISHER ADMINISTRATOR responsibility.

Converting Oracle Reports to XML Publisher

Hello,
I've been trying to convert my Oracle Reports to use XML Publisher templates and make the canned reports more visually appealing. I've been following the steps described in note 295409.1 on metalink to change OR output to XML and calling the XMLP Engine to apply the template.
However I'm encountering errors when XMLP is calling the template. In order to jump start my template development, I've used the utility in Release 12 to change the RDF file into the PL/SQL packages and RTF template. Then I am attempting to reengineer these templates back into 11.5.10 and uploading them via XML Publisher Administrator. I am experiencing the errors described in the following forum thread:

I've located the problem within the template itself, but is this because of the conversion utility in release 12 (XML Version 5.6.3) is not compatible with our current XMLP version of 5.6.2 in 11i?

This could have something to do with the fact that your printer is not set up correctly. Can you run a plain text (OReports) file output to the same printer? If not, then the printer is not set up in FND correctly. If you can ...
Remeber that unless you have a more modern printer that can handle PDF documents natively then XMLPs PDF is going to need to be converted to PS or PCL. I would suggest you investigate the PASTA printer driver and get that set up. It provides the ability to call a program pdf2ps for instance, to convert the PDF to PS. There is a bunch of info on metalink

Interactive pdf reports - Reports thru XML Publisher

Hello All,
We have a requirement wherein the customers should be able to keyin the data in the pdf reports that are generated through oracle and save the same. This way the customers can reduce lot of paper work. Our reports are developed through Reports 6i and templates are developed through XML publisher.
Kindly let us know if we can generate interactive pdf reports using Oracle reports 6i & XML publisher.

Im assuming you are in E Business Suite ?
So to be clear:
1, You have an English base template?
2, You have loaded a Spanish translation file ?
3, When you run the template it generates English ?
IF so, you need to go into the Options popup (forms) and select Spanish as the language you want before running the report. Sorry, it can not be defaulted at the moment,

Generating pdf report via concurrent manager and xml publisher

I have report (rdf) which works fine in eBusiness Suite but Id like to create translatable reports with reach layout (comparing with the Report Builder) based on the functionalities of the XML publisher. Ive made all necessary steps (first change the output format for that report in concurrent manager from pdf to xml, submit the report to get xml file, which Ive used in Microsoft Word Template Builder to make layout in rtf file, and create data and template in XML Publisher Administrator in eBusiness Suite).
When Ive submitted that report from concurrent manager, after the concurrent manage finished his job I got the warning message.
Also the output file is not generated and in log file there is a message: One or more post-processing actions failed. Consult the OPP service log for details.
Concurrent manager works fine, but there are problem when concurrent manager send the xml output of the report to XML Publisher which have to create pdf layout based on rtf template.
I think there might be a problem with report complexity, while Ive used layout formatting, api calls to eBusiness Suite, parameters, placeholders, attached library etc.
If it is impossible to get new report based on xml publisher template, what is the purpose of xml publisher if it is so limited, while every eBusiness Suite Report is so complex.
I hope there will be a person on this forum with the same problem, otherwise Ill give up at all from XML Publisher, at least until it come a better version of that tool which it seems to be in early development phase and not ready for the market yet.

All of the complex report logic is handled in your Oracle Report (rdf) file.
If your Oracle report is working OK, then this report should be generating XML.
After running your report, go to the View Requests window. Highlight your request, and click the Diagnostics button. Then click the 'View XML' button. If you see XML data, then you should be OK.
When I faced a similar issue, it was because the '1 step' process didnt work for the particular report I was using. The '1 step' process doesn't work for every report. Which report are you using?
If the report is submitted via a form (not the concurrent manager request form), then you probably need to use 2 steps to produce the desired output.

From Oracle Reports to Bi Publisher :) [Closed]

Hello.. First I'll explain our situation :)
In our company when we create reports (using oracle reports) we have to insert in our before report trigger this: srw.user_exit('FND SRWINIT') ..An in the after report trigger this: srw.user_exit('FND SRWEXIT') Because this is needed for the CEMLIs (configurations, extensions, modifications, localization, and integrations) of the company in order to measure the time each report takes to finish.
I’ve made some reports using XML Publisher (Bi Publisher) and they are working great :) ..But now some people here are asking me if I could use those same instructions in order to get the information of the time.
I read at Tim’s Blog this:
“.. In good ol Oracle Reports you just added the following command in your before report trigger: srw.user_exit('FND SRWINIT') and it was all done for you. In the world of BIP we go one step further. The executable that runs your data template sets the org id for you so you do not have to do anything. Now there is a caveat to this, as long as you are using the BIP delivered executable (XDODTEXE) in EBS to call the data engine to run your data templates you're fine..” (http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/2007/03/22)
We are using the executable XDODTEXE in EBS so I told them we don’t need to use those commands. But when they tested a process in order to get the info of the time (CEMLIs) they got no information.
Now I’m trying to insert in the data template the beforeReport and afterReport Triggers. But.. I don’t know what I should insert as the source:

*Should I use something like SRW.INIT?
*Or is this already done when we run the concurrent using the XDODTEXE executable? (if yes, how can I verify this?)
*Is any of this possible (use those instructions of reports in bi publisher)?

Some people of Oracle told us we needed to use this command because with this a trace file is created. This are the steps they gave us (this is only used at OnDemand):
1) to be able to run a CEMLI, on the report you have to use in a before report trigger: srw.user_exit('FND SRWINIT'). In the after report trigger: srw.user_exit('FND SRWEXIT') (we didn't follow this step because we're using XDODTEXE as the executable)
2) in the report add a numeric parameter named ‘P_CONC_REQUEST_ID’
3) activate the Trace Option in the concurrent of the report.
4) execute the concurrent of the report
5) execute the concurrent ‘CEMLI Performance Checker’
6) fill the cemli_performance_standard file (this is a .xls file we have) with the information that was on the output of step No 5
We weren't getting the output of step No 5.. But now we could make it work :D
We were skipping step No 2, we just added the parameter and now everything is working fine :)

Can we create a drilldown report in XML Publisher

Hi,
I am currently into a project where we are implementing Oracle Applications. Here I have a task where I have to convert the legacy reports into XML Publisher. Here there are few legacy reports which have a scenario like:
A report contains Summary and detail modes, wherein if we run the report we can see the summary mode and for every record in summary mode there is a button which will take us to the detail mode of that particular record.
Now can I develop a same kind of report in XML Publisher where I can somehow navigate to the detail of the report from summary page.

Error when trying to run an FSG Report via XML Publisher...

hello.
Hope someone can help.
This is our first look into the benefits of XML Publisher in order convince Manager to start using it. Thing is, we really need to get both FSG reports and Dunning Letters working.
We've currently got XML Publisher 5.0.0 and BI Publisher Template Builder for Word v10.1.3.2.0
First up, FSG reports. Having followed this link here:

Ive managed to create a template based upon the basic FSG template supplied. I’ve follwed easy steps but on submitting the request against ANY [its what the notes said] FSG report the error messages from both the log and output files are given.. Those being..
Output file displayed the most productive error message:
DECLARE
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-06550: line 133, column 8:
PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'SUBMIT_XML_REQUEST'
ORA-06550: line 133, column 5:
PL/SQL: Statement ignored
Can anyone help please? Or perhaps suggest an alternative to running FSG reports through XML Publisher.
Other thought was, do I need any different versions and/or Publisher Enterprise installing?

Excel Output for Standard Reports using XML Publisher

Hi All,
Customer wants to get Excel Output for the existing Standard/Custom Reports using XML Publisher. I followed the following procedure.
1. Changed the output to XML for Concurrent program ( Trial Balance - Detail )
2. Used the Existing seeded Template
3. Ran the Report using EXCEL as the output.
When I clicked on View Output, I am not able to see the Excel output. I am seeing the HTML tags in the output window. Verified that Viewer Options existed for Excel as follows:
File Format=Excel, Mime Type=application/vnd.ms-excel.
When I ran the report with PDF output. I can see the PDF output.
Ran the HTML output with new Viewer Option ( File Format=HTML, Mime Type=application/vnd.ms-excel) then I can see the output in Browser in the Excel format. I did this test after going through the Metalink Note: Note:316752.1
My question is.. Do I need always choose the HTML ouput in the options window to trigger the Viewer option for HTML. Customer may not like this idea. He would like to choose the Excel Output and see the output in Excel format either in the Browser or Microsoft Excel.
Can someone in this situation before help me out.

1. Is the output is same for HTML and Excel options ?
2. Why the output is viewable with HTML option and not with Excel option ?
