Oracle's efforts to secure the database

Hello,
Today morning I was reading this page :
http://www.businessinsider.in/Google-is-going-to-pay-hackers-infinity-million-dollars-to-find-security-holes-in-Google-C…
and since I always thinks all good things for Oracle, so the same question poped-up in my mind that if Google is going to invite the hackers to protect its Google Chrome, then why should not Oracle also ?  But after few minutes, I thought that rather than first inviting the hackers to find the security hole in the product, Google should first ask / invite its own developers to find the security hole and still they fail, unable to provide good solution(s), then ONLY it should go for 3party / hackers, to make it less cost and economical as well.
Obviously, this is not the place to discuss about other company, but I would like to know that if something similar fits for Oracle or not, i.e. what if Oracle invites its developers to find the security hole / bugs, read it and if still remain to "repair" then open invitation to hackers of the world.
Kindly share your opinion to make the Oracle Database World's "hack-proof" RDBMS software.
Regards
Girish Sharma

I see nothing wrong with what others doing and also don’t know what fits for Oracle. I believe the big companies are definitely backed up with big talent pool and it looks like Google thinks Hackers are one of them.

  • How do I store oracle forms and reports in the database

    Hi !!
Is there a way I can store the forms and reports runtime in the
    oracle database ??
We are working on forms 5.0, reports 3.0
    oracle 8.0.5.0.0 on HP-Unix
Can someone guide me step by step from storing the forms to
accessing it back on the desktop.

You need SMB compatible names.. for both TC and if you use wireless then wireless.. short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
Go to the disk file sharing page.. turn on guest account.. read and write access.
Give it the right workgroup .. usually WORKGROUP
Load bonjour for windows onto the windows machine.. that should be included with the airport utility for windows.

  • Differences in the characterset used by the database & Oracle Applications

    Hi All,
I have encrypted one column in the database using Oracle DBMS_OBFUSCATION tool package. When the same field is viewed from the application the characters appear different from those that are there in the database and also sometimes the value is truncated from the applications.
Could anyone please help me understand why it is happening.
Is there any difference in the characterset used by the database & Oracle Applications ??
    Please help me ASAP.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Aush

What I mean by the characters displayed on the form in the Oracle Applications is different from the database value is that suppose the value in the database is 8¿x¿"h the characters(part of the string) displayed in the form are different from what is present in the database.

  • Oracle SQL Developer  error - "The file-based source procedure Name is not present in the database."

I recently started working on the Oracle SQL developer. I have 'select' privileges on the QA schema and when tried to execute proc in QA. It is giving the error as 'The file-based source <procedure Name>  is not present in the database.  Was it compiled?'
instead 'you do not have sufficient privileges to execute this procedure'. Did research on internet but with no luck. What configuration changes needed to be done to make it work.Guide me.

Sounds like you do not have the correct privileges.  What should have been granted to you by the QA user, or some other user with appropriate privileges, is...
    grant EXECUTE on "QA"."<PROCEDURE_OF_INTEREST>" to "<YOUR_USERID>" ;
Note that a grant of execute on a procedure has nothing to do with grants of select on some or all of QA's tables and views.
So, as Vadim suggests, from your connection node in SQL Developer's Connections view, if you expand the Other Users node, then expand QA and look in the Procedures node, do you see the procedure of interest?  If not, you cannot expect to be able to execute it from your userid's connection. And even if you do see it, you may have some other privilege that permits viewing but not executing, like...
    The role SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE
The system privilege SELECT ANY DICTIONARY
And even if you do not see it there, then having certain other privileges granted to you could permit executing it in general, like...
    The role EXECUTE_CATALOG_ROLE
The system privilege EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE
Also, note that the 3.0 release is a bit dated nowadays. Upgrading to 4.0.3 production or even the 4.1 EA2 (early adopter) release will, in general, give you a better experience.
    Best wishes,
    Gary

  • Secure Store Service Application takes a lot of time and does not create the database

    Hi everybody,
I was trying to configure sharepoint performance point and I was following the instruction. After I created the performance point services application I tried to creat the secure store service application. When I do this, the progress window stays open forever
even after 2 hours. If I close the window, I will see that the secure store service and proxy app is created and the application pool also is created in IIS but the database is not and the application service is stopped. even when I want to delete it, it's
the same story and the progress window stays until I close it manually. Nothing has been logged in the event viewer because it doesn't throw any exceptions.
I don't think that I have permission issues on the database server side because I have created the performance point service app and the database is there. I have used the same credentials to crete the secure store.
I have restarted the secure store service and IIS for many times and even the server itself.
I'm wondering if anybody has had this issue because I couldn't find anything on the web.
    Thanks,
    Edwin

    5. Created the database link :
    create database link dblink
connect to "sa" identified by "<pswd>"
    using 'dg4msql'
On running :select * from test1@dblink i get the following error:
Error starting at line 1 in command:
    select * from test1@dblink
    Error at Command Line:1 Column:20
    Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-28513: internal error in heterogeneous remote agent
    ORA-02063: preceding line from DBLINK
Is there any issue with the set or definition that I get the above error?

What is the version of the Oracle database in which you have specified/and use the database link?
If it is for example 10.2.0.3.0 you need to apply the mandatory patch for RDBMS bug 5965763 first before being able to use an 11g gateway. Have a look at MetaLink note 457808.1 for details about this patch.

  • Running more than one instance of the database on oracle 9i

    I have a oracle 9i database on linux 8 . I had created a database db1 . Its working fine
then i created another database db2 on the same server.
When i am trying to start the database with the command
    sqlplus /nolog
    sql> set instance db2
it gives error sid coudn't be found.
How can i resolve it. My other database is running fine at startup also.
Is there any modification needed in startscript to start this database also

    Hi
the SID is an environment variable, so try:
    at the unix-prompt:
    $ ORACLE_SID=DB2
    $ export ORACLE_SID
    $ sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> connect / as sysdba
    getting:
SQL> connected to an idle instance
    and now
    SQL> startup
    regards

    Hi,
it is not astonishing that the error occurs every time you try this create table statement.
A table with this name already exists. And error -955 tells us exactly this.
    What to do?
As I do not know if there is data in this table and/or if there are views / other database objects
using this table, I cannot decide, if dropping this table would be a good idea.
But what I do not understand is, why during one (?) loading in a clean (?) database this
table is tried to create more than once. Or was the database you are loading into not clean,
fresh and empty? Then it will happen that not only this table, but some others will result in an error
    because they exist already.

  • The server principal "XYuser" is not able to access the database "Ydb" under the current security context

SQL2005 on winserver 2003. I have a view in Xdb that accesses tables in 2 different databases (Xdb and Ydb) on the same server. I have mixed mode security. I have a SQL user (XYuser) that has read access to all tables and views on both databases, yet when I try to access the view using a C# windows application I get the following error:
The server principal "XYuser" is not able to access the database "Ydb" under the current security context
This same scenario works under SQL 2000. I looked through the postings and tried to set TRUSTWORTHY ON on both databases but that didn't help. I can access any other views or tables on the SQL 2005 server, just not the one that joins the tables cross databases. Any help is much appreciated... john

This appears to be a Login/Database Mapping issue.  I was having this problem, but was able to resolve it as follows:
Using the SQL Server management Studio:
In the Object explorer, under the SERVER security folder (not the database security folder), expand Logins.
That is: ServerName -> Security -> Logins
NOT: ServerName -> Databases -> DatabaseName -> Security -> Users
Select the Login that is having the troubles.  Right click on the Login and select ‘Properties.’
The ‘User Mapping’ page should list all databases on the server with a check mark on the databases that the Login has been mapped to.  When I was getting the error, the database in question was not checked (even though the Login was assigned as a User on the database itself).  Map the Login by checking the box next to the database name.  Set the default schema.  Then select the roles for the Login in the Database role membership list box.  I selected db_datareader and public.  After clicking OK to save the changes, the problem was resolved.
In order to ‘Map’ the Login, the Login must not already be as User on the database, so you may have to go to the database security (ServerName -> Databases -> DatabaseName -> Security -> Users) and delete the Login from the list of database Users before mapping the Login to the database.
