Oracle SCM & OPM Advantages Over  SAP MM & SCM Suite.

Hi every one,
Are there any Features in Oracle EBS which would be concidered as advantage of Oracle SCM & OPM over SAP MM and SCM Suite. All you gurus out there please share your views and experience.
Waiting for a fruitful response.

Hi,
1. Cost Allocation to multiple FG in a single production batch cannot be handled in SAP. SAP expects a batch to have a single product.
2. SAP Material Ledger does not handle multiple levels of iteration (Reprocessing), which can be common in a process manufacturing industry.

  • Advantages of SSRS over SAP HANA

We are looking into options for developing reports.
The data sources are SAP HANA ad Oracle/SQL Server. The two reporting options we are looking at are SSRS and SAP HANA. I would like to know if SSRS is advantageous over SAP HANA. If yes, please specify the reasons.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
SQL Server Reporting Services provides a full range of ready-to-use tools and services to help you create, deploy, and manage reports for your organization, as well as programming features that enable you to extend and customize your reporting functionality.
One of the principal advantages of using Reporting Services is the ability to manage reports and related items such as folders, data source connections, and resources, from a central location. We can define security, set properties, and schedule operations.
We can also create shared schedules and shared data sources and make them available for general use.
For more information about SQL Server Reporting Services, please refer to the articles below:

  • Improvements in Oracle SCM Check Out and Check In mechanism (better Oracle

Oracle SCM - the Software Configuration Manager – provides the backend source code control services for Oracle Designer. It offers among other things functionality for Version Control: Check In, Check Out, Branching and Merging and it records Check In/Out notes, Version Labels and ‘version events’. In comparison with several other tools for version control, it has a few oddities or lacks some functionality that might have been very handy. It turns out that most of that functionality can be created fairly easy, with additional triggers on the Oracle SCM tables. I have demonstrated in a previous post how two of these additional pieces of functionality can be implemented: Building Check In protection into Oracle Designer/Oracle SCM - Check In only by the user that did the Check Out (http://technology.amis.nl/blog/index.php?p=784). I intend to write further articles to demonstrate implementations of all others enhancements listed in this post: http://technology.amis.nl/blog/index.php?p=799.
Please let me know - through comments on that Blog article - if you are interested in any of the mentioned enhancements.

The first query points to many threads where a similar question has been asked. You can change the query search words to get more hits.
If you are looking specifically for OM, it will also help if you network with some non-IT guys to understand how, in general, Order Management is used in various industries. You can talk to Order Entry clerks to understand order taking process (such as customer calls, they create a quote, customer approves, quote is turned into order), you can talk to Warehouse personnel to understand order shipping process (Such as order ship date nears, they run a report to find which orders need to ship in the next x days, they generate pick tickets to get material, they generate packing slips, generate invoices, shipping notices etc.)
Talk to some AR folks to understand credit processes and invoice /collection processes.
These folks don't have to use Oracle. What you are looking for a generic understanding of how the business /processes work.

  • Advantages of EP over SAP BI Web Reporting

    Dear Experts
Can you please share your inputs on Advantages of EP over SAP BI Web Reporting?
Appreciate if you could share any presentations or documents on this.
    Thank you in advance.
    Best Regards
    PKC

    Hi,
They are absolutely different environments. With EP, you can develop WebDynpro Applications, using ABAP or Java, integrate Internet Service, develop applications with Visual Composer, ... It's much more than a reporting environment. You can integrate BI reports on EP, using iviews portal components.

  • Oracle SCM Future?

Given the fact that Jdev 10.1.3 was released for developer preview with CVS as the default SCM tool and given my not so favourite experience when it comes to the integration between Jdev and Oracle SCM it would be nice to get some clarity regarding future product directions from Oracle regarding the integration between Jdev and Oracle SCM.
As I see it there are 2 possibilities:
    1. Oracle SCM is considered mature enough and the integration of oracle SCM with JDev is satisfactory to Oracle. Oracle SCM is used mostly by larger enterprise JDev developers which are the smaller percentage of the total developer community. As a result, it is not extremely important to gain market share with these developers so Oracle SCM was not released as part of this JDev developer preview. (I somewhat tend not to favour this possibility).
    2. CVS is the prefered route for SCM purposes even as far as Oracle is concerened. As a result, it was released as the default SCM tool with the JDev developer preview.
In addition, Oracle is trying the capture the open source Java development market in which CVS is the de facto standard hence the CVS decision.
In other words what I am really asking is: Should we start making plans to move to CVS or should we stick it out with Oracle SCM since it is planned to stay around for the foreseeable future? This question is important particularly in light of the fact that our Java code base is relatively small at the moment but is expected to grow substatially in the next couple of years which would potentially make any change to the SCM tool a complex issue.
Any response from Oracle would be appreciated.
(The opinions and speculations in this post are mine and do not represent anybody else's views)

Today Oracle has no SCM strategy.
Within JDeveloper by exapmle, CVS, SUBVERSION or third party tools are recommended.
We as IKAN focus on Oracle customers that look for alternatives for Designer modeling and SCM.
CWD4ALL (Designer modeling) is available as a JDeveloper extension. (www.cwd4all.com)
SCM4ALL complements CVS and SUBVERSION and offers build, deploy, approval and lifecycle mgt. (www.scm4all.com).
You can download both products for a one month free full trail.
We are in the process of integration our SCM4ALL product, through CVS or SUBVERSION with the Oracle Development Suite (Forms, reports, JDeveloper,..), the Oracle database and Application server.
We want to offer Oracle a full SCM solution that can trully compete with IBM's RAD and Clearcase family
When interested, just let us know

  • Advantage of SAP Script over Smart forms

    Hi Friends,
Can you please let me know some ten points on Advantages of SAP Scripts over Smart Forms.
    Thanks,
    Gokul

    Hi Gokul,
Major Differences between smart form and Scripts are
Multiple page formats are possible in smartforms which is not the case of SAP Scripts
It is possible to have a smartform without a main window
Labels cannot be created in smartforms.
Routines can be written in smartforms tool.
Smartforms generates a function module when activated
Background graphics are possible in case of SMARTFORMS
Assigning the font colours to the text are not possible in the case SMARTFORMS.
Creating and maintaining SMARTFORMS requires half the time compared to SAP Scripts
    Smart Forms                                           SAP Scripts
1)Form, Text Module, Styles are          Form, So10 are
    client independent                             client dependent
2)In a form diff pages can have         In a form all pages should
different page formats                      follow one page format
3)Back ground picture is possible     Not Possible
    4)Maintenance cost is low                Heavy

  • Oracle SCM integration

    Hi all,
With FORMS 6i we were using PVCS versioning tool.
But now, in some projects we are using FORMS 10g. Since there is no integration between FORMS 10g and PVCS, we are looking for other version control tools.
Is there anybody using a version control tool other than Oracle SCM in Forms 10g?
For SQL Development we use SQL Navigator. And it seems that SQL Navigator doesn't support Oracle SCM. We don't want to use two different version control tools in Forms 10g (for fmb files) and SQL Development tool(for procedures, functions...).
Do anybody know any sql development tool(like SQL Navigator etc.)
that supports Oracle SCM version control?

Recently, a Statement of Direction was published for Oracle SCM that indicated that it was being de-supported.
My concern is that Oracle SCM provided the ability to do Diffs between two versions of the same form (the fmb), which is not really possible in any other tool that I know of. It would seem that comparing two binary files in a meaningful way would be proprietary to the two files and how they were constructed.
It would not be cool to use Oracle SCM for Forms and Reports but then have to use another Source Control tool for other files.
Does Oracle recommend any other tool for this purpose?

  • Looking for comparison between MS Visual Source Safe and Oracle SCM

    Hi,
I am looking for some comparison between MS Visual Source Safe and Oracle SCM.
What I need is technical feature comparison (not just marketing comparison stating that Oracle SCM is better for everything is stored in the very reliable Oracle database(although this is a good point)).
Any help in this area will be helpfull.
    Best regards,
    Mihail Daskalov

    Thanks you for your answer,
I like very much Oracle SCM, which I use extensively.
I have very little experience with MS VSS (only on my local machine). I have never tested it in a network environment with multiple developers.
I would like to convince other developers to switch to Oracle SCM, but I need to know what to tell them.
I'm actually both a developer and DBA, and I do like the safety the Oracle Database offers for storing files inside.
I like very much the opportunity to connect with Oracle Repository Navigator from a remote location to my database through Connection Manager and to be able to work with my projects. (There is an issue with this configuration due to the JDBC driver used I'm unable to compare files).
But to convince people I need to know more about the differences between MS VSS and Oracle SCM.
I would appreciate if any of the developers share experience with VSS and SCM.
    Regards,
    Mihail Daskalov

  • Clearcase VS Oracle SCM

    Hi ,
Does any one have the white paper showcasing Oracle SCM features vis~a~vis ClearCase.
Does oracle SCM allows for Multisited Parallel Development.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Saravanan K

    Saravanan,
If the sites are disconnected use the export and import utility. The export from the first SCM repository will take with it the necessary file ids. Import these into the second repository, check out, modify and check in the files and then export them. On import to the first repository we know that the files came from this repository and have been modified, they are imported as new versions of the original file.
Have a look at the doc for imp and exp in the commandline tool.

  • Announcement: Oracle SCM Download

    Hi all,
Just to let you know that the latest Oracle SCM download available
from OTN (Release 6i 4.1.1) is now smaller than before. We have
removed the Designer specific files from the install, for users who
want to evaluate SCM but don't need support for Designer objects.
To get this download, please go to the SCM product page (NOT the
    corresponding Designer product page) =>

  • Oracle SCM to CVS migration - white paper available?

Is there such white paper or technical notes available for a JDeveloper environment?
Specifically, what about moving version and configuration history to CVS?
    Itsik

Sad to say, but there's no defined meta-data standard for the transposition of version information. So your only real answer is to grab the significant element versions out of Oracle SCM as files and start uploading them into CVS repository. Same as when you started using Oracle SCM.

  • Advantages of sap gui over sap web

    hi experts,
currently we are using sap gui. but we experiencing some slowing especially on peak working hours where users are making use of many transactions. I know that this is normal on those cases. My question is, if we are going for sap web. will it be more faster? efficient to use than the sap gui? this will be in terms of exporting reports and transactions. We havent tried the sap web yet. But we assume that, if we have it on web, it will be faster since only the data will be loaded and no more application gui.
    Please suggest.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi,
I don't think it will give best result from performance point of view.
In your case, it's problem with huge load during peak hours, not with GUI you are using. Slowness during peak hours can be reduced by tunning your system from memory and resource point of view. SAP GUI and SAP WEB do not make big difference in terms of performance and response.
There are more disadvantages than advantages. SAP WEB needs more network capacity and graphics do not look good.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks,
    Siva Kumar
