Oracle self study - satisfy requirement  for PerformanceTuning Cert Exp?

If I was to buy the "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning" self study CD does that satisfy the training requirement for cert "Oracle Database 11g Performance Tuning Certified Expert"? Or do I have to take an instructor led course? It appears that it does satisfy, but I want to be absolutely certain before I throw down $1,650 for it.
Thanks, Brad

Thanks, BradNo.
Self study CDROMs are never acceptable to satisfy the training pre-requsite requirement
Only OU classroom classes or LVC/LWC (Online) classes are acceptable (For some certifcations workforce / academy or OAEC delivery of OU training can be acceptable ... but check carefully to avoid being caught out).
As an alternative pre-req 11g DBA OCP certification removes the need for this training requirement (though this has its own training requirement):

Looking at your first reference I can possibly see the ambiguity

  • Oracle Self Study Course - Any good?

    Hi
We are upgrading from 9.3 to 11.1.2.2 and was looking at the courses oracle offers for our power users. After playing with it some I don't think we need a full class and looking at getting a couple of users the self study course. Does anyone have an opinion on them?

The self study courses are pretty good, especially if you put in the time with them. 11.1.2.2 is significantly different than 9.3 (especially if you utilize EPMA) and you might consider at least one of you taking the live training. It would probably be worth the investment to be able to interact with other students and the instructor. You might find quite a bit of value in some of the new functions, some thoughts on how to best utilize the "unlimited" customs, and some pros/cons of different ways of upgrading.

  • Study material require for LC reader extensions

    Hi,
I am very new to LC reader extension. I have livcycle server, workbench and designer setup. I am able to orchestrate process on workbench and able to design forms using designer.
But when i save the pdf with some data. It is not saving the content of the filled pdf. For this i need to incorporate reader extesion. My client is ready to take license for reader extension whatever it costs.
But as i told i am very new to this. I do not know how to install it or configure it with adobe LC workbench or designer or both.
Can somebody provide me material how i can install and make my pdf forms reader extended.
    Regards
    Sunil Gupta

I would suggest that you look in the documentation at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/9.0/adminHelp/admin.htm?content=000145.html as this tells the process in detail and has links to other documentation as well.  I assume that you are installing this on a current ES2 server; the process is a bit more complex for older versions, but the documentation does tell the whole tale.
An evaluation reader extensions credential is available with the LiveCycle trial download.  You can find this in the upper right corner of the LiveCycle section of the developer center, or http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle.html   There is also significant new content available on the developer center such as "LiveCycle in three days" that may be of use to you.
Also, note that Cafe can be downloaded from the developer center and its search tool is excellent for finding the resources you may need.  For instance, I did a search on "reader extensions credential install" and found the information in the first paragraph in the first few hits.

  • Oracle Self Service time

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me that how to have default into oracle self service time. For e.g suppose if i have not submitted time card from 6/12-6/18 then in the week of 6/19 - 6/25, I should see the timecard for 6/12-6/18 in oracle self service time not for 6/19-6/25

Unless you are on R12.1, you can't control this value. If you are on 12.1, Default Timecard Period has been added to preference Self Service Timecard Period for a Worker, where the following options are available:
Period on or after system date
Earliest Period prior to system date
Closest Period prior to system date

For the ESA i have the book 'Email Security with Ironport' (cisco press).
But i cannot find anything in this type for the WSA.

    Hi Chrisitian,
Your best source for information on the WSA is going to be the user guide based on the AsyncOS version you plan to deploy.

    Hello all,
I'm searching hardly the course "Oracle performance 11G - self study guide" to download.
It's shorter and speaks about the essential things ... unlike the standard guide "Oracle® Database Performance Tuning Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2)"
I's impossible for me to buy it, because of his price about 1500$.
So I'm asking if someone can lend it to me, or tell me where I can download it ...
    Thanks in advance.

  • Fusion middleware system requirements for oracle Linux 7

    Hello,
I'm currently studying document E54272-01 (Oracle® Fusion Middleware System Requirements and Specifications
12c (12.1.3) September 2014) in order to install Fusion Middleware 12c products on a Oracle Linux 7 server.
The "Linux Operating System Requirements" section doesn't include Oracle Linux 7 system requirements, does it mean Fusion Middleware 12c products are not yet certified for OL7?
PS : I'm unable to find a pdf version of E54272-01 document, if anybody has the URL, I'll appreciate.
    Daniel

    Daniel,
The compatibility matrix for 12.1.3 can be found here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/fusion-middleware/documentation/fmw-1213certmatrix-2226694.xls
As you will see, for now only Oracle Linux 5 and 6 are compatible.

  • Help define the requirements for an Oracle Spatial management tool

    Hi,
We are developing a tool that, we hope, will be indispensable for all Oracle Spatial and Locator dbas/users. We've released version 1.0, but we need your help to define the requirements for the next version.
What features would you like to have in a management tool for your spatial databases?
The features we've got so far:
    1. Viewing of vector data in a map + attributes
    2. Loading from shapefiles
    3. Exporting to shapefiles
    4. Validating metadata, indexes and spatial data.
We are adding editing of vectors in the next version - basic stuff for add, update and delete.
But there must be a lot more. What do you find difficult to do in Oracle Spatial/Locator? What would you like in a tool such as this?
Any feedback either to myself or the forum is much appreciated.
    cheers,
    Andrew
    [email protected]
PS If you like to have a look at what we have done so far, go to http://www.geometryit.com/products/spatialConsole.php

Andrew knows what I have asked for but for others to think about and to start
the ball rolling, here's what they are:
    1. Ability to enter own SQL commands but with PARAMETERS for attributes
and shapes as in the following examples:
    SELECT ...
    FROM my_spatial_table a
    WHERE a.ATTRIBUTE = :attr
    AND MDSYS.SDO_RELATE(a.shape,:polygon,'mask=anyinteract') = 'TRUE'
When executed the attribute value is asked for via a input box (data type?)
and the user is asked to define the SDO_GEOMETRY for the :polgygon parameter via mouse clicks on the screen.
Similarly, this would work for INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE...
    INSERT INTO my_spatial_table (shape) values(:polygon)
The data type of an attribute parameter could be determined in two ways:
    a) By querying the Oracle catalog;
    b) By using a "PARAMETERS" command before the query as follows
PARAMETERS name type [(size)] [, name type [(size)] ...]
The PARAMETERS declaration has these parts:
name     The name of the parameter.
type     The type of the parameter.
size     The size of the parameter in characters or bytes.
    2. When executing an SQL SELECT statement I would like the tool
to suggest the HINTS that are needed to improve performance.
    3. Following on from 2, I would like to Tick an option that would return the
EXPLAIN PLAN that the query optimizer used when executing my query.
    4. The tool has to support ALL Oracle's spatial vector data types.
    5. It would be nice to be able to work with GeoRasters. Since Spatial Console
imports/exports shapefiles why not the same for rasters. However, the problem
with supporting foreign data formats is WHERE DO YOU STOP!!!!!
    6. You could allow for the styling of the Spatial Console to be stored in the MapViewer catalogs or use the MapViewer catalogs when styling an Sdo_Geometry if it exists (I note that your tool extracts the SDO_METADATA
why not the MapViewer metadata as well)?
    regards
    S.

  • Buying a new laptop purely for Hyperion Planning (Self study @ home)

    Hi Guys,
I am going to buy a laptop/desktop which I am going to dedicate purely towards learning Planning v11 (1 user at home :D ).
I don't want to buy a desktop because laptop is more convinient. I was thinking of getting one of the Alienware laptops with the following specs :
    Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 870 (2.93GHz, 8MB)
    Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit- English
    12GB RAM (2x4096 + 2x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Memory
320GB Serial ATA (7200RPM) Hard Drive edit
    1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 5450 graphics card
    DVD +/- RW Drive
I plan to install all EPM suite onto this, is this good enough specs or do I need to add anything more as in more RAM, different OS ? I would also be installing Oracle 11 onto this as well. I will then have my Excel whereas Ill have the smartview/add in to work on it. You could call this both server/client machine.
I chose Alienware as I though they are a good build. If anyone feels that there can be other brands, please let me know. I know maybe I am spending a bit too much but I tend to be a bit serious about my learning.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Have you thought about going to the cloud?
As TimG pointed out above, I went down your path thinking I could install and run 11.1.2 in a VM on a 8 GB machine (Windows 2008 64 bit OS on that VM). Nope. The services start up, but the machine is completely unusable. I even tried installing on bare metal on a swap out hard drive to get rid of the VM overhead. Alas, it still wasn't sufficient -- I have to be able to click on something and not watch the hard drive LED go a solid blue for 3 minutes. Arrgh. It is possible that Oracle didn't design 11.1.2 to work on a single laptop. What on earth were they thinking? :)
I had this touching bit of naivete because I was (and am) successfully running the 11.1.1.3 EPM stack (Essbase, SS, Workspace, EPMA, Calc Manager, Planning, Financial Reports, APS, EAS, and ODI) quite comfortably in a 32 bit Windows 2003 4 GB VM Ware session. I really like the flexibility of a Windows 7 (laptop in my case) host OS to do "normal" things and then multiple VMs to do POCs, use different releases of client software, etc. It's a very productive environment.
Unfortunately, 8 GB isn't sufficient for the full EPM stack. You can definitely run Essbase, APS, EAS and whatever other client tools you need, e.g., Excel, Dodeca, etc. in 8 GB.
However, as I needed more than just Essbase and 16 GB laptops get excitingly expensive, I ended up going down the cloud computing path. You can tap into as much RAM and CPU as required and the learning curve isn't very steep. It's definitely not as convenient as VM Ware, but it's pretty close. As I am an installation idiot, I went with a company called Full360.com (no, I don't work for them) who provide a EPM 11.1.2 Amazon Machine Image that you can fire up at will, create private copies of, attach 1 terabyte hard drives to, etc., etc. It's like a server room in the sky. Of course this all isn't free, but if you read my blog's analysis, you'll see that it's equivalent to buying a new mid range laptop every three years.
Re that last point -- I was really tempted to just go ahead and buy that 16 GB laptop (Lenovo has one that is "reasonably" priced as opposed to Dell's highway robbery -- it's all down to the RAM slots and the price of 8 GB DIMMs-- Lenovo has four, Dell has two) but realized that while 11.1.2 might run, today, in 16 GB who knows what 11.2 or 12.1 or whatever might require. I am out of the business of sizing a laptop -- if Oracle EPM 14.5 requires 32 GB of server -- I've got it thanks to Amazon Cloud Computing (no, I don't work for them either).
There are other cloud options out there: GoGrid, Rackspace, and even Oracle itself not to mention all of the consulting companies that offer hosted environments. I don't think, however, that the Oracle/consulting company products are for individuals to learn on -- the Full360 product is.
I'm going to have another blog (I literally have five being written in parallel -- I am in blog thrash mode) post up soon detailing the real world challenges I've encountered using EPM in the cloud and there are still some issues like security that I don't fully understand (to say that infrastructure is not my thing is to be kind), but all in all, I'm quite happy with the path that I've taken.
If you have any questions, feel free to ping me on LinkedIn or on this thread.
    Regards,
    Cameron Lackpour
P.S. This has got to be the longest OTN reply I have ever posted.
P.P.S. I will copresent (along with Full360) on EPM in the cloud at ODTUG's Kaleidoscope 2011 conference in Long Beach, CA in June of next year. I will be a veteran user of the product by then and should "have all the answers" at that point.
