Oracle server 8i 8.1.7 and windows XP

Hello everybody.
Can oracle server 8i 8.1.7 be installed in windows XP ?
Thank you.

Can it be installed? It probably can be (assuming we're talking XP Professional).
Is it certified? On the main OTN page, under "Get Support" is the certification & availability matrix. Following that down, you'll find that the Oracle client was certified on 8.1.7, subject to the application of a number of patchsets, but that the Oracle database was not. Windows 2000 was the latest flavor of Windows that was certified with the 8.1.7 database.

  • CHKDSK v6.2.9200.16384 dichotomy between Windows 12 Server x64 Standard Build 9200 and Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64

I seem to have discovered a dichotomy between the ability of CHKDSK v6.2.9200.16384 to detect and repair an external NTFS drive, when executed on Windows 2012 Server Standard Build 9200 x64 and Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64. There should be no difference in executing
the same application between these two systems.
Even though both are 64-bit systems, and both are up to date, and both are running the same version of chkdsk, chkdsk on Windows 12 Server was UNABLE to detect an NTFS filesystem on an external WD 1TB USB drive (detected fs as RAW), while chkdsk on Windows
8.1 Enterprise WAS ABLE to detect the NTFS filesystem on the same external drive, and was able to repair it.
So, what is the difference between these two systems? Why should the same version of
any application yield different results between these systems?
The only result on Windows 2012 Server was:
    C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk /x /f M:
The type of the file system is RAW.
CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives.
The result on Windows 8.1 Enterprise was:

    Hi,
Please check if the Windows Server 2012 is still UNABLE to detect the external NTFS drive after attach the drive from the Windows 8.1 back to the Windows Server 2012.
A RAW filesystem simply means that it is a filesystem that is not recognized by Windows. The most common cause of external hard drives suddenly becoming RAW drives is if they are disconnected from a computer without using the “Safely Remove Hardware” option.
You can use the Dskprobe tool (Dskprobe.exe) to make repairs to check it the issue still exist on the Windows Server 2012.

  • Project Server 2010 compatibility with IE11 and Windows 8.1

    Hi All!
Maybe a silly question since compatibility is always asked about older versions, but here is my question:
Is Project Server 2010 compatible with IE11 and Windows 8.1?
I personnaly tested with IE11 and it seems to be ok. All views and pages can be opened with IE11.
    But what about windows 8.1?
Has Microsoft done any communication about this?
Thanks in advance for your helps.
    Guillaume.

I am seeing a minor issue with the timesheet grid after users are upgraded from IE8 to IE11.
We are using Project Server 2010 with SP1 and Oct 2013 CU.
When some users (using IE11) switches between filters or views in the Timesheet page, the grid shrinks making to content un readable.  The only way to get it back is to refresh the page. After a refresh, the grid returns to normal size, but the pane
divider is too far to the left and always must be dragged to the right in order to see the task names in the left grid.

  • Oracle 8.1.7 for Unix and Windows 2000 Active Directory

Is it possible to integrate the users and passwords of an Oracle Database running on Solaris with the users and passwords defined in a Windows 2000 Active Directory? What are the requirements and the necesary steps?
I've read the documentation and it shows how to do it if you install Oracle in a Windows 2000 Server, but it does not mention about installing it in any kind of Unix.

You should consider to base your firm security and central user repository on REALLY SECURE and ROBUST product technology. Not on Windows 2000 Active Directory. Win2K AD is known to be slow and insecure. If you have Oracle on Solaris your data is secure and next step is to move user accounts to real user repository. It may be one of well-known LDAP servers. Try to read some materials on CERT Coordination Center (http://www.cert.org) which describe LDAP servers. After this you can choose the server which best suite your needs.

  • File Server For Both Mac OSX and Windows?

    Hello All,
With HP discontinuing theier HP Server line, I've been browsing around for quite some time at a good box to use as a file server.  My windows Home server is about to die i feel, and most PC based servers seem just as pricey as me acquiring a Mac Pro Server with Two 1TB Hard Drives and using OSX Lison Server.
However, before I take that plunge I was really wondering if anyone had had any success or stories that they can share about using a Lion Server with windows 7 PC's.
I use a MAC, but everyone else here uses windows.  On my the home server box we bascially store all of our digital photographs, personal files and such as a backup.  Granted the Apple time machines and mac mini's can be used as the same but you loose the redundant hard drives and stability of comintuing to upgrade if you run out of space.
So I'm hoping that its positive and pretty much flawless where the Mac Pro with Lion Server could just save and serve files galore without slow down or problems.  With my past mac experience that's usually not the case.  I just want to replace that box, have a new box that can store files off of the independent machiens with a here or there additional backup on it as needed.
The other plus if I take this plunge is I have a Mac Pro box for greater functionality at home over my Macbook Pro!   So yeah, a little perk for me...
Thanks in advance for any news you can help or offer me...  I know I'm probably asking something that a ton of others may have alredy asked and sorry for the duplication if thats the case

Mac OS X Server can do all that.
You can keep All the user accounts on the Server, or you can just use it for File Sharing. Does Windows SMB or Apple File System sharing without issue. Disk Utility can create Mirrored RAIDs right out of the box, that expensive RAID card is only needed for RAID 5.
I run a Server at home like a School Server with ALL User files on the Server (you log on at any Mac and your files appear, because they are on the Server). User files are on a pair of Mirrored RAID drives, and I use Time Machine to automatically back up all the User Files on the Server once an hour. Gigabit Ethernet Switches provide "Hard Drive-like" file access.

  • Oracle MSCA option on RF device and Windows tablet - Comparision

    Hi All,
In our discussion on warehouse transactions, there were few options discussed:
    - User Orcle MSCA on RF device (like Intermec, MC75 etc)
    - Use windows based tablet to run MSCA sceen and use scanner to scan the barcode
    - Use windows based tablet to Oracle forms to do the warehouse transactions and use the scanner to scan the barcode
Since we can run the Oracle forms on Windows based tablet amd we can easily connect the normal scanner. It would be cost effective also and can be carried anyware within the warehouse.
I would like to get some of the pros and cons in each of these options.
    Thanks for your support.

  • WIndows Server 2012 w/ Hyper V and Windows 7

I have been able to create every imaginable virtualization in a test environment except for Windows 7. It asks for drivers. I have a driver CD but when I put the CD in the D: drive. It will run but suddenly the command line screen states that a file on
the F: drive does not exist. Where is this F: drive coming from?

I might have misstated my situation. I have Windows Server 2012 outfitted with Hyper-V. I'm trying to virtualize a Windows 7 operating system.
I found a another W7 media disk that seems to bypass this problem.

    hi John,
The Oracle Migration Workbench lets you do this. Just specify the
correct connect information and all should work fine.
The workbench does not mind whether the repository is 8.1 or 8.0.

    Hey DBT,
SQL Server 2014 Express supports your operating system.
You can see the link below the requirements for each version: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx
Did you try to restart the computer and then try installing again?
There are users that it helps them, it might solve the problem but preventing them expect an error and understand why it happens.
Sometimes it appears as a result of lack of .NET Framework (check the Microsoft article if you meet the requirements before installation).
If you are interested to View and Read SQL Server Setup Log Files
I've provided you a link that explains simply how to do this.

  • Are Security Vulnerabilities fixed by applying Oracle Server Patchsets

    Hi,
I would like to know whether by applying Oracle Server Patchsets or by upgrading the Oracle Server from one version to another do we overcome the Security Vulnerabilities highlighted in the previous patchset or Oracle Server Version.
For example if I have an Oracle Server 9.2.0.1 and I apply server patchest 9.2.0.8 do I overcome all the security vulnerabilities highlighted for version 9.2.0.1 and all other intervening versions. Similarly, if I upgrade my Oracle Server 9.2.0.6 to say Oracle Server 10g 10.2.0.3 do I overcome all security vulnerabilites highlighted fro 9.2.0.6 and all other intervening releases.
    Best Regards
    Syed Zaib ul Qamar

Is there a link; or where can I go to find the types of and/or categories for the security vulnerabilities associated with (past and present) versions of Oracle? I work with a very large team of developers and some are DBAs that perform mainly custom coding in C++ and a little in Ada. I would like to ensure that our team is continually aware of the both past and current Oracle vulnerabilities when developing applications/scripts (designing, coding, reviewing, building, etc.), testing (including security) , quality assurance, packaging, and etc.
Perhaps, this is a lot to ask; but, this at least a good palce to start.

  • External table in Oracle 10g and Windows server 2003 problem

I'm having a problem accessing an external table in an Oracle 10g and Windows 2003 server environment. The disk is remote (mapped) to the server. It's the usual access errors, kup-04001 or kup-04063.
I have the [seemingly] exact same setup in an Oracle 9i and Windows 2000 server environment which works perfectly. Services run as local SYSTEM and SYSTEM has full permissions on the disk. Directories exist and so do the permissions to the directories.
In the Oracle 10g and Windows 2003 environment, services run as local SYSTEM and SYSTEM has full permissions on the mapped disk. Directories exist and so do the permissions to the directories.
This obviously effects mappings, deployments, etc.
Does anyone know if something changed in either the db or the os?
    Thank you,
    Michael

    Thank you for your reply.
Your proposal is the standard solution. As a matter of fact, that's how it is on my "old" system. Server "A" Oracle services are started by SYSTEM. Server "B" Oracle services are started by SYSTEM and is where the flat files reside. SYSTEM has full permissions on a disk local to Server "B". Database directoriies defined on Server "A" point to Server "B" remote disk. External Tables on Server "A" are defined with directories that point to Server "B" remote (mapped) disk. I have no problems with this configuration.
I'm having a problem acheiving the same configuration with Oracle 10g and Windows 2003. I guess I'm baffled over the fact it isn't working the same way as my "old" environment. Why shouldn't it? Oracle (and you) want me to start services as a specific user. It shouldn't have to be that way unless something changed in the way the database makes calls to the os or if Microsoft slipped something in with one of it's numerous security patches.

  • Oracle 9i - Unable to set /PAE and /3GB Switch in Windows 2003 Server SP2

    Hi
I was wondering if anyone had any experience on Windows 2003 Server (SP2) with setting /PAE and /3GB switches.
I am unable to set both together, setting one or the other works fine in the boot.ini.
Oracle seem to think you can set both but it causes my OS to crash/become unstable.
Has anyone set both switches together on 32 bit Windows 2003 Server successfully?
I am using Oracle 9.2.0.3 Enterprise Edition.
    Thanks

The server is new. But we installed 10g before 11g was available. Then upgraded to 11g, so it is a little mess. What the oracle installer should have done in a fresh install, it is maybe not what the server has now.
I have checked for memory issues, processor issues, http errors, every EM setting and metric, and everything looks just right, but the applications are slow and the users are upset.
Anyway, thanks for the advice. Maybe we will need to re-install everything or go back to 10g on Windows 2003 Server x32. That configuration was working fine before rushing into 11g.
