Oracle shadow process

Hi all,
I want to find from where ORACLE.EXE(SHAD) process is coming from. I mean machine name. Please help me to get the query. Is it possible to get origin of ORACLE.EXE(SHAD) process origin in previous time like 3.am in dec 17?

On Windows that is the Oracle background (Shadow) process that the system processes run inside as threads.

Information related to current sessions can be found in v$session.  Some v$session information goes to ASH which in turn end up in the ASH history.  Reading ASH requires purchase on an extra-cost EM Diagnostic Pack license.  If you have one look at the DBA_HIST_* views.

  • Memory used by oracle 11g processes on solaris 10

I am running oracle 11.1.0.7 on solaris 10. The database uses some 280M virtual memory size for each oracle backup or user process. See the SZ column in output of ps -efl below.

I just wonder how come oracle that much of memory for each process. Is that something we can control through some system/database parameters or is that the way oracle 11g on solaris works? As you have already said, it is "virtual" memory. This is not real, "physical" memory. Solaris has a virtual memory sub-system layer in it, as do almost all other modern operating systems. Google "operating system virtual memory" to find out more on what virtual memory is and how it works.
In terms of your question, virtual memory means that not all of a process's memory space needs to be in physical memory for it to run and execute. The process virtual memory space is broken up into equal sized pages, and only those pages currently being referenced (used) are mapped and read into physical memory pages. Thus the virtual size of a process is irrelevant to how much physical memory is being used. Look at the RSS column (ps -ely) for the physical memory used by each process - Resident Set Size.
Furthermore, an Oracle shadow server process (oracle) uses a large segment of shared memory for the SGA. This shared memory only exists once in physical memory, and is shared amongst all the shadow server processes. But it is mapped into the address space of each process, and so appears and is counted in the virtual and physical memory of each process.
So each reported virtual size (SZ) of each oracle process is also counting the mapped shared memory pages in each process, and so counting the same pages multiple times across all the oracle processes. You need to subtract the size of the SGA shared memory from the virtual size of each oracle process to determine the private, local memory per shadow process.
If you want a further breakdown of the memory map of each process, look at the manual pages for pmap (man pmap), which will break it down by text, private data, zero initialized, shared and other types. By subtracting the shared size from the resident size you can get a true view of the private, local memory per oracle shadow server process.

  • Direct Path Inserts = By DBWR or by Shadow Process

    Hello guys,
if i use the append hint (direct path inserts) - which process is writting the data to the datafile?
    In the documentation of oracle:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96524/c21dlins.htm#10778
Oracle appends the inserted data after existing data in the table. Data is written directly into datafiles, bypassing the buffer cache Ok that is clear - but who is writing down the data? The shadow process which is handling the insert statement or is it given to the dbwr and it flushes the data directly to the datatfile without putting it into the buffer cache.
And another question regarding direct path inserts:
    http://sai-oracle.blogspot.com/2006/03/parallel-query-is-it-good-or-bad.html
If you want to do direct path insert in parallel, you would block all other non direct path insert operations on that table. This is because direct path insert would append above highwater mark, and no other process is allowed to update HWM until your operation is doneIf i insert data in serial with direct path insert... i also write data behind the High-HWM .. why is it only locked in parallel mode?
And why does oracle not check if there is enough space in some other blocks below the High-HWM and using these blocks for "normal" inserts?
    Regards
    Stefan

It's the server process that's responsible for writing direct path blocks to disk.
DBWR only ever flushes out of the buffer cache.
You do NOT write "data behind the HWM" in direct path mode, ever. Direct path works so fast because all you do is slam whole blocks of data onto disk ABOVE the high water mark. You can slam whole blocks down without worrying about what you're over-writing precisely because the blocks are above the HWM and thus cannot possibly be in use by anyone for anything. Under the HWM and you have to start worrying about locking and contention and stuff like that.
Parallel operations (or simultaneous serial operations by two different users) inevitably have to block each other for this sort of thing: if I am busy writing to blocks above the HWM, great. But if you want to do it too... well, what's to stop us from over-writing each other's blocks?! Nothing, actually. So Oracle simply has to lock the entire table from any other direct path operation to make the situation manageable.

  • SNIPED processes -- Shadow processes going to 99%+ utilization

In one of my production databases I am having a recurring issue with sniped and the associated shadow processes. We have resource_limit=TRUE and have an idle_timeout setting for the DEFAULT profile set to 240 minutes.
With that said, we have some Oracle processes that are getting sniped after some time, but the associated shadow processes on the server are never getting cleaned up/killed. Typically, I have seen the shadow process persist on the DB server, but not really doing anything, no big deal as I think either PMON or a database bounce will usually clean these up.
Now the problem. In one of my current production DB's these shadow processes associated with previously sniped sessions are "waking" up at some point in time after being sniped, and then will be at +99% utilization and start generating massive trace files. This is a problem on 2 fronts. 1. Many of these processes eventually consume all available CPU's, which significantly effects performance, and eventually (if go unnoticed long enough) these trace files will fill up the local disk and bring everything to a halt.
So an example would be, User A logs in at 1:00 pm, does stuff and is done by 1:05, and then never disconnects. The default profile idle_timeout will eventually kill/snipe the session at 5:05 pm in the database. The shadow process still lives not doing anything. Later say 12:00 am the shadow process then shows up in the process list (top) using 99% CPU utilization and starts dumping information to trace files (nothing really useful in these, more or less a core dump). This will continue until the PID has been killed (kill -9 XXX) at the OS level.
Has anyone ever seen such a scenario?
I am going to open a TAR with support on this, but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this?
BTW, my environment is Linux Red Hat AS 4, on Itanium 64 bit processors, with 32 GB memory, and version 10.2.0.3 of the database.
    Thanks for any insight.

Please check parent process of SNIPPED process. Most likely it will QMNC.
If yes , then it is known issue
quick solution is kill QMNC process, it will automatically start.

    4. Assign the inputs (lastname, firstname, leadowner, viewMode=Personal, lovLanguageMode=LDC) to lead
    5. Call the leadInsert operation on the partner link

    Hi,
We are also using BPEL to send data out to SIEBEL CRMOD.
I've created a proxy that deals with authentication and session management.
All you have to do is to deploy the proxy as a war file and refrence it as the end-point of your partner link.
    Code is here:

    Thanks for your responses.
    Greetings.

    Hi,
    you said:
it wasn't possible to set ORACLE_HOME variable because it had a value older than 1023 characteres
What do you mean with older than 1023 chars?
I think the easiest way is to uninstall the BPEL Console and run the installer again with correcting the ORACLE_HOME problem...

  • Oracle Event Processing (11.1.1.20100416-1727)

    Hi,
I have recently started working on a oracle event processing application.
In our case,we dont have a streaming data coming as input to the application but we maintain a static relational table which we need to hit every 5 seconds and check for a particular rule to be executed. Right now we maually update/insert the data now and then. So the input to our application would be a select statement from a static table. The rules executed successfully and all looks fine.
Being a developer am able to visualize the rules that I have created via the code for manipulation.
Adding to the above functionality we are in need of window/API kind of thing where the end user updates the rule regularly.  Let us assume the  static table contains the withdrawal amount and the end user changes the threshold withdrawal limit on daily basis.
When we open the visuallizer ,we can see our application running on the oep server and in the cql rules tab we can see the rules formed for streaming data for ex: select * from helloworldinputstream.
Is there any way to show the sql queries which we have written for the manipulation in the CQL rule tab?
Could you please help me proceeding further.
    Version of CEP: 11.1.1.20100416-1727

    Hello,
You should install oracle software first and then launch DBCA. Once you have installed oracle software only you can crete listener using netca. Check your init.ora file (must be under
C:>$ORACLE_HOME/database/dbs or $ORACLE_HOME/dbs and local for following parameter LOCAL_LISTENER and remove it. But I recommend you to install oracle software only first and then launch DBCA.
What's your OS? Is it vista? XP?

  • How to install Oracle BPEL Process Manager for OracleAS Middle Tier

    hi,
i need to install BPEL process manager, so i download the following file from otn
    1.soa_windows_x86_101310_disk1
    2.soa_windows_x86_bpel_101310
here i read the document named b28980.pdf from bpel\doc\pc.1012 to install BPEL PM
so i start to complete the pre-installation task
    1.installed Oracle database 10g
2.Run the Integration Repository Creation Assistant on the Database
3.Install Oracle Application Server 10g Release3 (10.1.3.1.0) and select either the J2EE Server installation type or the J2EE and Web Server installation type. selected J2EE and Web Server installation type
and installed according to the Oracle application server installation guide.
installed OracleAS in the path : D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1
4.Install the current release of Oracle BPEL Process Manager for OracleAS Middle Tier
here they mention to select the J2EE and Web Server installation type because that type is selected in Oracle AS installed in Oracle Application Server
so i start to install the BPEL PM by selecting the setup.exe-->and shows the location source and destination
default destination is : D:\product\10.1.3.1\OraBPEL_1 selected next on the screen
the next screen is select installation type here there are two types named
1.BPEL process Manager for Developer (371MB)
2.BPEL process manager for Oracle AS Middle tier (107MB)
i selected 2.BPEL process manager for Oracle AS Middle tier (107MB) and click next
pop up window opens with title dependencies
    error:
BPEL Process manager for oracle AS Middle tier will run on top of a supported Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.1.0 J2EE server and Web Server Or J2EE server instance. this location does not contain this instance. Please select new Oracle home that contains a supported instance.
so i changed the destination path to : D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\BIN then also i got the same error.
please any one mention the path for J2EE and Web Server instance for installing the BPEL PM for Oracle AS Middle Tier.
    Thanks in Advance
    Aswath Thaniga

If you choose the developer version you will be fine.
If you have installed J2EE and Web Server installation into D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1 then this is the location you install your BPEL PM into, not D:\product\10.1.3.1\OraBPEL_1 or D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\BIN.
D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1 is what we call the ORACLE_HOME, generally we create a new home for each install, but in this case there is a dependency on 10.1.3.1 OC4J container. So it needs to be installed into 10.1.3.1 oracle home.
The bin directory is just the executables for that home, its not the actual. home.
    cheers
    James

  • How to install Oracle imaging & process management in windows xp prof

    Hi All
I am trying to install oracle Imaging & Process management in windows XP. Please let me know whether it is possible in windows XP or not... which I couldn't able to install in XP. when I saw the Install doc, it mentioned it is possible in windows server 2003. Installation guide mentioned that we have to setup 6 or 7 different server setups.
    or
If any one have I/PM installation steps for windows server 2003 Please provide the steps.
Any input would be greatly appreciable.
    regards
    Vijay

    Vijay,
IPM is not certified to be installed on Windows XP (as for IPM services).
It is possible to install IPM on one server machine (or two, if you need Web). First, you have to decide, which services you have to install.
    regards

  • Does Oracle BPEL process manager ships jdeveloper bpel designer

I had downloaded Oracle bpel process manager and installed on my desktop but I am unable to find jdeveloper bpel designer shiped with process manager.
Could any one update me regarding the same

    Hi,
Follow the steps which I have mentioned. If you want to start with BPEL you can do either of the two things.
    1) If you are interested in only BPEL then download and install BPEL server from oracle site. For coding you need to have Jdeveloper.
    or
    2) If you want to use all the components of SOA then download version 10.1.3.1 and install SOA suite. Apply Patch to upgrade version to 10.1.3.3.
After installation of server, download Jdeveloper 10g and Unzip the file to use it.
    Hope I clarified your doubt.
    Cheers,
    Abhi...

Is there any version of Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.2.0.2 for Solaris X86 available or under development?
Does any one tried the sparc version on x86?
    Thanks

  • How to  Instantiate Oracle BPM Process Webservice from the OSB

    Hi,
In our project we have one requirement i.e Instantiate Oracle BPM Process Webservice from the OSB.After register BPM service in to OSB I am creating one Message flow to instantiate BPM Process.
first call to startSession Operation, then use response of startSession operation is used as reqest for BPM process operation.
Can u tell me how do we use response of startSession operation to the request of BPM process.
    Thanks in Advance.

An easier way of instantiating a BPM process via a WS call is to set the authentication type to 'Username Token Profile' on your web service operation in BPM studio and then redeploy it. If you use this type of security on your bpm process operations you can start the process in one call instead of having to get a session first and then starting the process.
Once you've updating the process, re-register the new process WSDL and business service with OSB (or import it manually) and you can just call the start process operation in one request (passing a username and password using the WS-UsernameToken method) without having to get a session first.
    Hope this all make sense,
    Mike.

  • Regarding Oracle Business Process Manager and WS-Security

    Hi All,
Actually I like to invoke couple of secure services running on seperate
server runnnig JWSDP.These services are using WS-security,so I am just
wondering if it possible to call these webservices through Oracle
    Business Process Manager.
As our secure services are using JWSDP so thats the reason we prefer to
use the BPEL engine which deployed on top of JWSDP so that We dont
have to confront with compatable issues among different toolkits.
So I am just wondering do you think that Oracle business process manager
ws-secuirity implementation can use the JWSDP implementation i.e
xws-security implementation,in otherwords is it possible to use JWSDP
with Oracle business process manager for using the ws-security?Thanks.
    I would appreciate your help.

yes we do native in Oracle BPEL PM (username token) - as explained here
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/bpel/documents/bpel_admin_10.1.3.1.0.pdf page 30
for more sophisticated ws sec stuff, pls use Oracle Webservice Manager
