Oracle SID on RAC

Hi All,
I want to clear some confusions that I have about Oracle SID on RAC having 3 nodes.
We have installed Metadata repository on RAC and 3 nodes for communicating with RAC DB and 1 IM. We also have 3-MTs for messaging services.
My question is:
there should be Single Oracle SID in RAC or 3 for each node of database communicating with RAC.

One service surely, a SID will lock you into a particular node. Create a service with whatever parameters you require -e.g MRHA and then set up your JDBC/TNS for that.

Restore DB13 Oracle backup of RAC+ASM to Standalone server with ASM only

Dear Experts,
My SAP ECC System is on Oracle 11g with RAC on ASM. I am taking the backup using DB13 with init<SID>.sap profile as attached.
I want to restore this backup on single node System with only ASM(no RAC). (ASM File system structure remains the same)
As per my finding and as per Note 1627541 - BR*Tools support for Oracle ASM and Exadata/ODA, it says use only BRRECOVER to restore the database.
Can anyone please assist me, in restoring the database. As in step by step commands or points to follow the restore.

Additional configuration information can be checked under SAP note
Note 1598594 - BR*Tools configuration for Oracle inst. under "oracle" user
you need to adapt your init<SID>.sap file according to the recommendations suggested.
Post this you may use brtools to backup and perform restoration as well.

After a brrestore on same server and <SID> each time that we run cleanup logs from DB13 we see:

For Rac I am using both same OS (linux 4) for both nodes .
Plz suggest its possible to install two nodes on different machine(diiferent virtual machine on different system ) .Can communicate both machine without any problem if its possible plz provide links.

Issues while installing ORACLE 10g R2 RAC on RHEL 5.3

i am installing oracle 10g R2 RAC on RHEL 5.3 in a test environment. my aim was to install using ASM.
i went through the pre-requisites ok before beginning with the installation.
since RHEL 5.3 doesnt support raw devices i used

During the installation of grid infrastructure(cluster) for Oracle 11.2 RAC One Node on AIX6.1 ( PROD) , ASM used. I am getting below errors when executing ./root.sh
Upon investigation ,I managed to get note: 1068212.1 from the support oracle site ( see below for details) . I might be hitting Unpublished bug 8670579. I also logged Severity 2 SR with Oracle support to get the bug/patch fix and no one has attended the call.
This might be configuration issue or otherwise , if you have experienced the same issue please assist ? ( if you need more logfiles please feel free to request)….
I ran the Cluster Verify Check – all passed.

We are also trying to install 11.2.0.2 Grid infrastructure for Oracle RAC One Node on AIX 6.1. We did a POC in our lab environment and after much struggle got that working. Now we are building 4 clusters in the production environment and the first cluster installation failed while running root.sh on node2. We already have a Sev1 ticket open with Oracle Support but have not heard anything.
Here is root.sh output from node2. The two node names are p01dou416 and p01dou417.

Best practice for oracle 10.2 RAC with ASM

Did any one tried/installed Oracle 10.2 RAC with ASM and CRS ?
What is the best practice?
1. separate home for CRS, ASM and Oracle Database?
2. separate home for CRS and same home for ASM and Oracle Darabase?
we set up the test environment with separate CRS, ASM and Oracle database homes, but we have tons of issues with the listener, spfile and tnsnames.ora files. So, seeking advise from the gurus who implimeted/tested the same ?

I am getting ready to install the 10gR2 database software (10gR2 Clusterware was just installed ) and I want to have a home for ASM and another for database as you suggest. I have been told that 10gR2 was to have a smaller set of binaries that can be used for the ASM home ... but I am not sure how I go about installing it. The first look at the installer does not seem to make it obvious...Is it a custom build option?

Server A is production, oracle sid = uno
Server B will be a stand by database from Server A, oracle sid = ??? "uno"
Server B will be QA database from Server A, oracle sid = ?? (uno)
- Product 8.1.7 on unix backup box
- I want to have one standby database with one unix user ora8i1 and sid="db1".
- I want to have a QA instance in same box with other unix user ora8i2 and sid="db2".
- Can I have it these?
- What about the listener, Do I need configurate it manually?
My Idea is:
1. Produccion rdbms sid='db1'
2. Backup server with stand by database sid=???
3. To have a QA instance from db1 on the backup server where the analyst can test their programs, before Produccion, sid=????.
4. Point 2 and 3 with Ora8i 8.1.7.1 on same unix hp box.
In the other words, I want to have on same hp unix box two instances from main production instance 'db1'. One instance have a stand by database and other instance have a QA test database, both instances have a dentical copy from 'db1' inicially.
What you suggest me?

Enabling oracle TAF on RAc environment

Hi everybody.
We are using Oracle 10g with RAC and ASM, i'm in testign phase now and i test if the one node is down automatically database connexion will use the other node. Note that we have only 02 nodes. For doing that i ahve seen to a documentation by creating CRM service to enable TAF (Transparent Application Failover). I've created TAF service from Netca and i have the crm service in my tnsnames node1. But when i run the following command:
SQL> show parameter service
i should have
NAME TYPE VALUE
service_names string devdb, CRM
but in my case i have only
NAME TYPE VALUE
service_names string devdb
If any one can tell me why CRM service doesn't appear or how to configure TAF exactly.
I'm running oracle database 10g release 2 on HPUX v11.23 using RAC and ASM and HP ServiceGuard.

RAC One Node in 11g still requires the RAC licence option ! (unless you are running Standard Edition !)
All major hardware vendors (IBM, HP, Sun etc) have had clustering solutions.
SunCluster can be configured to allow "failover" of an Oracle Database Instance from one node to another.
The database instance has to be on Shared Storage.
SunCluster, itself, is a separately licensed product available from .......... Oracle now !

Is there any way where I can get ORACLE SID value in the PL/SQL layer with out actually querying v$database tables.
I am looking for key word in PL/SQL which stores currect SID name, just like how keyword 'user' stores the current user who has logged in.

I know I can create a function but, I dont want to read the table everytime it is called. Knowing that Database sid is going to be constant for next couple of years.
The procedure in which I am going to use database sid is called for almost every transaction in the database. I am trying to avoid IO operation for a constant value. I cant declare a global constant as it is going to be different for each environment Dev, QA, Production etc..and we are looking to deploy same code for all the environments. We are anticipating to have multiple databases for production too.

Oracle sid 102isql service not working

oracle<sid>102isql is not in start status, when i try to start it i got below message.
the above service could not start local services and error:1067 the process terminated unexpectedly.
iam not able to connect the SAP for this reason.Please advice.

Hi,
Check the DB and Listener is UP or not.. If it OK and still you are facing database connection problem then check the TNS entry in tnsnames.ora file is correcty given or not. The host, port and SID of TNS entry should match with Listener Host, Port and SID.
Check the Listener status using the command
lsnrctl status
Check the TNSping using Command
tnsping <DB TNS entry name>
Then check SAP is able to connect the DB using command
R3trans -d
if it give the return code 0, then SAP will be able to connect DB.

Oracle 11g R2 RAC on vmware

Hi All,
I have read many blogs and article about installing Oracle 11g R2 RAC on vmware. For self learning process what should be minimum configuration of hardware.
Minimum physical memory will be 8 GB what is minumum processor required ( 2 Cores / 4 Threads) or ( 4 Cores / 8 Threads)?
Native operating system will be Windows 7 64 bit.

You wouldn't be doing much with the processors so it won' t matter hugely having a dual or quad core. As long as there is sufficient RAM(like 8gig) , you should be fine. Try to get SSD if you want more faster performance from the machine in terms of IO.

Oracle Clustre, Oracle Cluster with RAC and Oracle 10g

Is there a difference between Oracle Cluster and Oracle Cluster with RAC? Please explain. Do existing database codes run unmodified in Cluster or Cluster with RAC environment? What needs to be modified to make existing SQL codes RAC-aware. How to achieve 'all automatic' in case of failure and resubmission of Queries from failed instance to a running instance?
In 10g environment, do we need to consider licensing of RAC as a separate product? What are additional features one derives in 10g that is not in Cluster +RAC?
Your comments and pointers to comparison study and pictorial clarification will be very helpful.

Oracle cluster like failsafe before or Veritas Cluster or other vendor's cluster is meant for HA (high availability) purpose. Which 2 nodes or more can see a shared disk with 1 active node. Whenever this active node failed through heartbeat other machine will know and will take the database over from there.
Oracle RAC is more for HA and load balance. In Oracle RAC 2 or more nodes are accessing the database at the same time so it spread load across all these nodes.
I believe Oracle 10g RAC still need seperate license for it. But you need to call Oracle or check the production document to verify it.
Oracle 10g besides improvement in RAC. It's main improvement is on the build in management of the database itself. It can monitored and selftune itself to much furthur level then before and give DBA much more information to determine the cause of the problem as well. Plus improvement on lots of utility as well like RMAN , data pump etc... I don't want to get into too much detail on this you can check on their 10g new features for more detail view.
