Hi ,
iam trying to download oracle linux enterprise 5.5 from edelivery.oracle.com/linux i hve downloaded it around 4times but all the time the downloaded was successful but while extracting it throwed me the error ie no archives found second time it got extracted but while reading on a virtual machine it throwed me the data cyclic redunancy error ...............
iam trying to download linux and sun solaris from oracle website the linux is 638 mb but in my case it only downloads 350 mb sometimes 220 i did this at my place ,i thought there might be some issue with my net .........
so i downloaded at my friend's place and then later at cyber cafe but everywhere iam facing the same issue
pls help me on this as i hve downloaded 10g on windows from the oracle site which got downloaded completely
i dont know wht is happening wrong

Dear Kavitha,
Dont use any third party download manager(pause/stop/start) to download oracle/linux os softwares.
the software may corrupt while copying from your host machine to virtual machine.
Please make sure the network connection for your computer not interupt/disconnect in the middle of download.
try your download in high speed internet connection network.
I download RHEL5 from edelivery.oracle website only, it works fine for me.
Try once again without using download manager with high speed internet connection.

Use of getright to download oracle software

due to problems at our isp, i cant download oracle software complete !
i want to use getright to resume download after a not completed download, but
getright cant download it.

Error in installing Oracle Software while adding node in RAC

Hi All
Oracle Version: 11.1.0.6.0
Linux
In the RAC environment, I am in the process of adding a node to the existing rac environment.
I have succssfully installed cluster software in the new node. all gsd, ons and vip services are running perfectly for new node in the existing and new nodes.
Next step, I started installing oracle software by executing the script $ORACLE_HOME/oui/bin/addNode.sh.
Here after specifying the the new node information (public host, private host and vip details) and when I pressed next,
OUI is giving following error - "Error occured while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured".
I ran olsnodes -n, it is giving proper node number.
Can somebody help me in identifying the problem and solution.

I am hitting the same issue, my problem was when I added the new node initially it fails because of the hint8-priv1. I followed the link below to remove and cleanup the last install. olsnode show only my existing nodes NOT including the new node.

I am getting this when use command line:
Error ocurred while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured.

also run addNode.sh via GUI, the new node name still listed and can't continue.
BTW, adding new node should support online, shutdown is not required

Using Oracle Software Illegally

Before i start, i just want all of you guys to know i have no intention of using Oracle Software illegaly.
Anyone can download Oracle 10g Software from Oracle's website. Right?
Lets say we have a Company and we need Oracle Database software to run our business. What if our company chooses not to pay a single penny to Oracle corporation and use the oracle software which we've downloaded by hiring an expert DBA. Will Oracle Corporation, ever be able to know that we are using Oracle Database software without paying the licence unless we seek technical Support from Oracle.
Will the freely downloaded Oracle Software work for multi-CPU machines?

In general, yes, once you get past the "prototype" phase, you need to license all your environments. What, exactly, defines the end of a "prototype" phase is obviously a bit sticky, but if you have a "production" environment, that almost always means that the development environment needs to be licensed.
Of course, any licensing questions should really be directed to Oracle Sales, who are the only ones that can provide a binding agreement. There may be wrinkles here based on the laws in your country, your existing licensing agreements, your relationship with Oracle, your particular business model, etc. Should you get caught in a disagreement about licensing, explaining that "some guy on the internet" (whether or not he has a playing card next to his name) told you that something was acceptable is not likely to go over well.

I have tried several times to download Oracle software without any success. Download fail with time out, even download of recommended facility to carry out successful downloads failed.
I am not sure which pieces of software are sufficient for practice purposes re: OCA/OCP training practices.

First, I assume you're installing on XP Professional, not Home. Oracle doesn't certify anything for installation on the Home edition.
Second, you probably want to post this in the Installation forum. The folks over there may have more information.
Third, if you're asking for what to select for the staging area, I believe that it's something like <drive>\disk1\stage\products.jar. If you're doing an install off CD, this is usually filled in correctly automatically.

Oracle Software not installed

Hi!
I tried to install SAP NetWeaver 7.1 with Oracle 10 under Windows Server 2003 64bit in english fully updated. But I ran into two problems which prevented the SAP installation to finish : first once all the oracles updates were installed, the oracle wintows service would not start; second sapinst never managed to find the oracle installation and always answered "Oracle Software not installed".
For this installation I downloaded all the installation files from the SAP download center like this :
     - On http://service.sap.com/swdc in the left frame : download/installation and upgrades/entry by application group
     - then in the center frame : SAP NetWeaver/SAP NetWeaver/SAP NETWEAVER CE 7.1/Installation/Windows Server/Oracle/
     - I added everything to the Download basket but "Oracle 10.2.0.2.0 Patch for AIX 64bit" and "Oracle 10.2.0.2.0 Patch for Solaris 64bit"
- then I took the last patch for Oracle 10 on the SAP download center :
     - on http://service.sap.com/swcenter-3pmain in the left frame : Oracle/Oracle 64-bit/Oracle 10.2.0 64bit/Oracle 10.2.0.2/NT_x86_64
     - I added the last patch to the download basket
Then I followed this installation steps :
installation of the last jdk : jdk-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe
installation of Oracle 10.2.0.1 with : Oracle10.2.0.1-51031678\NT\I386\sapserver.cmd
installation of the last update for oracle 10.2.0.2 with : DVD_ORACLE_10.2.0.2_Patches_WIN_AIX_SOL\NT\I386\setup.exe
     => I had a problem with the installation of the patch chich detected the wrong version of windows so I forced it with : OPATCH_PLATFORM_ID=233 (I checked it before, it should really be the right one)
installation of the last patch of oracle :
     - definition of ORACLE_HOME and addition of opatch to the PATH
     - execution of "opatch apply" in the folder Oracle-10202_Patch16_MSWINX86-64-6397030\
===> *PB* : the installation of this patch enables the oracle windows service which won't run and doesn't send any errors (just timeout). I didn't find any help on this one. When I tried to start sqlplus in console, I got errors about DLLs not found but they exists in the bin directory of oracle and are in the PATH...
installation of NetWeaver 7.1 with SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 SP3 for Oracle - 51032969\DATA_UNITS\CE71_03_IM_WIN_X86_64_ORA\sapinst.exe
       - normal installation + JavaEE + CompEnv
          - Media Browser - RDBMS Client Oracle : Oracle 10.2 Client - 51033272\OCL_WINDOWS_I386\LABEL.ASC
===> *PB* : at this point of the sap installation, I got an error "Oracle Software not installed" without any details. I didn't find any help on that either. It seems to come from a registry key missing...
After that, I uninstalled (with removal of the right keys in the registry to have something clean (<a href="http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14316/deinstall.htm">url</a>)) Oracle many times and tried different installation steps : without the patches, with the patches but without the update (doesn't work), with the patch 15, with the patch 16. In each cases Oracle service wasn't working if a patch was installed. And in each cases the sap installation never detected an Oracle installation. This installation steps are very reproductibles and are problemful.
Could anybody have some pointers or help on that one ?

Hello Friends,
I tried the AMD64 based Installation Source to install Oracle 10g. and It works.
I also applied sufficient patches (AMD64/x86_64 based) to Oracle, as required. It worked fine, without giving that "Platform not compatible" error, as it was giving me before.
Now,I have got that , my machine was expecting x86_64 based Installation of Oracle .
I was little bit confused between x86, x64, x84_64, I386,etc..etc..terms...

The problem was due to mix installation of 32bit + 64bit Oracle Software & Patches. Previously, i installed i386 based Oracle, which is 32 bit version. Then i tried AMD64 based Installation source of Oracle RDBMS. It workes.
Previously, I was applying x86_64 based Oracle patches 16 & 17 on 32-bit Oracle version, thats why definitely it was giving error of "Platform not compatible", because it was expecting 64Bit Oracle version to implement that patch.
But, now, i successfully applied these two required Oracle 10.0.2.0 patches(16 & 17),on this 64Bit Oracle. (AMD64 based Installation source).
Then, I had run SAPInst of Installation Master (Win_x86_64) and started the Installation again. I also gave Oracle RDBMS Client Source location (x86_64 based). Then, also provided other required parameters. Now, the SAPInst worked fine, without that "Oracle Software not Installed" error.
And, Ultimately I successfully installed the SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 on 64Bit Oracle 10g Database Software. Right now, the Server is working fine, without Errors.

Apparently what you found is the most current version. I contacted internal OTN support, and got this answer: "I am not aware of a more current version that what is listed."

Hi,
There are different Oracle software packages at their download site:
- Database
- Application Server
- Development Tools
- Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence
- more
and each of these groups has sub-groups, e.g. under Application Server there
are
- Oracle9i Application Server
- Oracle9iAS Portal
I'm confused as to what each package does. What's the difference between
"Database" and "Application Server". Which one
do I need? And under each group, which sub-group do I need?
Is there any docs I can read on the functions of the products?
Any help is most appreciated!

Oracle Software Requirments

Dear all,
I would like to know that to run oracle based application I need oracle database 11g, Oracle Fusion Middleware 11gR1 (To run forms and reports) and Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition 10.1.3.4.1 rite? Am I missing something?
I remember that application server 10.3 did not have the forms and reports services and thats why we had to stick to 10.2.
But now, do I need anything else to run oracle based application? The main components will be Forms & Reports (Developed with Developer Suite 10g), some of the BI based reports which will be developed in Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition 10.1.3.4.1.
Its be quite a while since I last touched oracle, and as per my last experience I had to go back a version to use forms and reports services. This time I want to be sure I am downloading the rite stuff.
To give an idea the project is about 50 million records, combined into single DB from 35 different sources and we need to built a prototype semi-data warehouse to analyze the data.
I really appreciate any help and input and guidance into correct direction.

Installing oracle instant client 12.1 on Windows 8 with no previous Oracle Software

Hi all,
I want to install oracle client 12.1 on my 64bit windows 8 computer. Do i have to have an oracle software installed first?
I've downloaded all the packages from the oracle website ie, basic, odbc, jdbc, sqlplus and sdk
I have extracted them into one folder c:\Program Files\OracleInstantClient. as told to do in the documentation
These are the actions I have taken as suggested by different forums which i have done;
- created a system variable OCI_LIB64 and set the value to c:\Program Files\OracleInstantClient.
- created a system and user variable ORACLE_HOME and set the value to c:\Program Files\OracleInstantClient.
- created a user variable TNS_ADMIN and set the value to c:\Program Files\OracleInstantClient.
- create subfolders "\network\admin" in your 64-bit client folder and create sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora here ie c:\Program Files\OracleInstantClient\network\admin
In another installation guide i found, i was told to double click a setup.exe and start the GUI which i didn't see after i extracted all the downloads
Please am missing something? do i have to install oracle database first? i really don't need that.

You do not have to install oracle database in order to install oracle client. But it won't do any good to install the client if you don't have a database to connect to -- somewhere. It's just that the database doesn't have to be in the same box as the client. In fact, it usually isn't.
You created a directory "c:\Program Files\OracleInstantClient\network\admin" to hold your tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files. But then you set tns_admin to point to some other directory. If you set tns_admin, you are telling the client THAT is where it should locate the tns config files.
Oracle sometimes doesn't like putting things in Windows folders that have embedded spaces in the folder name. I'd avoid it like the plague.
