Oracle software installation on MAC 10.6.8

Hi,
I want to install oracle 10g on MAC 10.6.8 ...I tried to install Xcode 3.0 version on my system, but it is not compatible with Mac 10.6.8,
When I tried to install Xcode 4.0 version on my system, online system is charging. The question is I am not sure, If I pay for Xcode 4.0.2, I will be able
to install it on my system or not, also whether that version is compatible with Oracle or not.
Rgds

Pl identify which version of 10g you are installing. The link posted above is not certified for 10.6.8 (aka Snow Leopard). The last certified version is 10.5 (Leopard).

  • Oracle Software Installation

I am connecting oracle thro telnet on solaris. I need to install fresh oracle software in sun solaris. GUI mode is required to install oracle.
What are the tools available installaing oracle from client.(GUI MODE INSTALLATION) from my windows local pc

I think X forwarding across SSH is much more complicated than VNC.Each solution have its advantages and disadvantages. Advantage of this solution is that you don't need running and properly configured X server on remote machine (Of course X server and X session occupied some memory). I personally preffer X11 forwarding for remote install when I'm installing Oracle (not just) products. Also I don't use VNC because passwords are sent by nonsecure way while X11 is going over SSH.

  • Oracle software installation issue

    Hi All,
as part of my learning exercise I am trying to achieve this -
I have a Sun box (SPARC 64 bit) running on Solaris 10 where oracle software is already installed (as oracle user) and a test database is created.
What I want is to install oracle 10.2.01 and then upgrade to 10.2.05 in a isolated environment on same serve as different user.
For this I have created another user, given access to the location where oracle software is kept.
Login as newly created user. I declare & export ORACLE_HOME and then execute runInstaller I get permission error on orainventory directory!!
One way of resolving this issue I thought would be to put newly created user to same group as oracle (as oraInventory has 770 permission) but my sysadmin says try to create a completely isolated environment and do not touch existing oraInventory dir.
I am kind of stuck at the moment and was wondering if someone can help me or guide me to right direction/document
    Your help is much appreciated.

    All,
Thanks for all your help and suggestions. After a lot of reading documents, I came to realise that to create isolated environment, I need to specify different oraInst.loc parameter to runInstaller. So I created a oraInst.loc in $ORACLE_HOME and changed contents of this file to point to oraInventory directory which again I created in $ORACLE_HOME. Then ran runInstaller-
    ./runInstaller -invPtrLoc /rabi/oracle/product/10.2.0.1/db_1/oraInst.loc
    oraInst.loc has -
    inventory_loc=/rabi/oracle/product/10.2.0.1/db_1/oraInventory
    inst_group=rabi
Installer starts off well. All checks are done. Gives warning that SWAP memory is less than recommended. I check the checkbox to ignore this warning.
Installation process starts and then hangs @83%
Last few lines of log file are -
    location = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid
    name = oracle.rdbms
    INFO:
    Query Exception: HomeNotFoundException
    Query Exception Class: class oracle.sysman.oii.oiil.OiilQueryException
    INFO:
INFO: Setting variable 'b_ASMAlreadyUpgraded' to 'false'. Received the value from the variable calculation.
    INFO: Calling Query ASMQueries10.2.0.1.0 IsRACASM
    orahome_path = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid
    orahome_sid = +ASM
And I am kind of stuck at this point.
Has anyone come across this issue?
    Thanks in advance.

any ideas / thoughts would be welcome
    thanks,
    amitabh

I got it working and thought I'd better shared my newly gained knowledge:
I followed the installation instructions as described in ReleaseNotes.pdf.
Only instead of running the DBENV script as a shell script I run the individual steps in the script manually.
The reason I did this was because I found out that the environment variables were not set even though the output of the script showed that they were set.
This is problably some Mac thing which I do not really understand, yet.

  • Oracle Database installation on mac os 10.5

    Hi.,
I have installed oracle database 10.2 on mac os 10.5. It is installed successfuly but when i typed sqlplus in terminal to login into oracle. it show dyld library loaded, , reason : image not found but I have already set librabry path as .
    export ORACLE_HOME=/Users/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
    export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib
What can be the possible reason for this message ??
    Can any one suggest ??
    Regards.
    shyam

Oracle database is currently supported only on Mac Power PC platforms and the highest possible opsystem is Tiger not Leopard as in Your case. And only 10gR1.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html
And error message should be longer, with concrete library name.
    Try to do following
    cd /
    find . -name "name_of_the_library.dylib"
And then adjust DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH to meet the path/

This question cannot be answered , since there isn't only one version of Windows 2003. Check the certification matrix for your planned version:

  • "Cannot locate software installation"

I am trying to install cx-oracle so that i can use the Django framework with an oracle database. but when i try to install it, it gives me this error
    bcalderon@bcalderon-desktop:~/Oracle/cx_Oracle-5.0$ sudo python setup.py build
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "setup.py", line 123, in <module>
raise DistutilsSetupError("cannot locate an Oracle software " \
distutils.errors.DistutilsSetupError: cannot locate an Oracle software installation
any help would be greatly appreciated. i think maybe Oracle database 10g express edition didn't install correctly or something. but i have reinstalled it like 3 times now and it hasn't made any difference.

i did install Oracle Database XE 10g. but i just want cx_oracle so i can use an oracle database with the Django framework. kind of like JDBC in java. It will just allow me to use a wesite built with django and access records and view on the site. but when trying to install, it gives me that error. i think the newer term for cx_oracle is oracle-python or something.

  • Backup oracle software.

Hi members, I have a question about system backups runnign Oracle and hope this is a right place and someone can answer.
How should we coordinate windows filesystem backups using backup exec 12.5. ex: backing up windows drives c: d: running oracle software and data files. I am planning to tell the sys admin to run the database shutdown script using back up exec before backing up and then running the startup script after backup is complete.. This sounds very practical to me unless you have any other suggestions... Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks for your thoughts.First, make sure you keep in mind that backing up the database and backing up the oracle software installation are two different things.
You shouldn't have to shut down the database to get a good backup of the oracle software - a backup of the ORACLE_HOME directory.
As for the database itself, what you describe will give you a cold backup of the database. But suppose you take that backup at 2:00 am and you lose the database at 5:00 pm, after a full day's worth of data updates? You really ... really ... REALLY need to make sure your db is running in archivelog mode and you are using rman to backup the database. Your system backup would then backup the backups. As a DBA, your first responsibility is to be able to recover the database with no more data loss than is acceptable to the organization. If you can't do that, you better have your resume up-to-date and with that in mind, I don't trust any SA to advise me about backing up oracle databases.

  • Who will install ORACLE software on linux production environment?

    Hi Friends,
there is a doubt for me on ORACLE software installation. i.e. who will install ORACLE software on linux production environment. either system admin or else ORACLE DBA.
If DBA means, whether system admin will share the oracle root password.,
If SYS admin means how DBA parameters during installation.

Since every version of Oracle available now (except 11.2) needs patches, a new installation should not create the database right away. Therefore, a software-only install is the most reasonable thing to do. And if no DB configuration parameters are required at s/w-only time, then it makes somewhat sense for the SysAdmin to do the install.
Therefore, it makes sense to me that the two groups (DBA and SA) might want to work ... together. (ROFLMAO)

  • Installing software on my Mac Air & MBP - installer wont load

    Hi all
I am hoping some one is technically savvy enough to help me trouble shoot this problem. I recently purchased a new digital camera and am trying to install the software disc that came with the camera. I unfortunately need to install the software disc so that it loads the necessary files for me to process the raw digital files that came out of the camera so using things like iphoto etc is no good for me.
The issue I have is when I double click the installer it momentarily flashes up and then disappears???? I cannot figure out WHY?? So I have tried to trouble shoot as best as possible. Here is what I have done and results to date.
    1. Tried to Install this on my MacBook Pro. Installer flashes up momentarily and disappears?
    2. Tried to install this on my Mac Air also running OS X Snow Leopard. Same issue?? So far conclude its not machine related
    3. Downloaded another install disc off the internet and tried to run that version. Same ISSUE. So its not issues related to my CD.
    4. Stripped out previous versions of the software on my MAC Air to ensure its not causing issues. Same problem
    5. Checked online forums and other uses and purchasers of the digital camera ARE able to install the software on their macs!!!
    6. Uninstalled every single APP that I have installed on my MAC air and tried to get it back to stock. Try again. Still fail????????
    7. Updated the OS X software to ensure everything is up to date.
    8. Grabbed the OLD version of the software disc that came with my previous digital camera (same brand) and installed that CD (version 23 - for those familiar with Canon DSLR). that loads up correctly and allows me to install. Version 25 the latest that comes with my new Canon DSLR doesnt load up.
I am stuck !!! I cannot pin point the issue. I dont understand OS X enough to debugg or log what the potential issue is.
I started up the Activity Monitor and watched closely in the my Process specifically for the process that I start up (SetUp)
I noticed that the Setup process name registers. Then another process starts up UniversalInstaller then both of them disappears?????????? and nothing happens in my comp!!!!!
Is there some way for me to debug this ?? look at log file?? enable error logging or has ANY one got any idea what may be the issue???
I've essentially bought a VERY VERY expensive DLSR and I cannot edit my raw files because I cannot install the software!!
    HELP ME Please

Downloading as we speak, and the first explanation that comes to mind is that both files have a .rar extension, and that since OS X doesn't support this archive format, you need to install a third-party utility to open them.
One files tool to open .rar files is The Unarchiver (here), and another is Stuffit Expander (there). 7zip also proposes a Mac version (here). All three will decompress a .rar file, and let you access the .dmg file(s) inside.
Also, depending on the browser you're using, and provided you might be inclined to open trusted files directly (I use Opera, and seldom save safe download; I click on "Open" in the download dialogue), your files could very well open... in the browser cache folder, out of sight. But if you use Safari, Chrome or Firefox, and you don't have any utility installed to handle .rar files, that's doubtful. I'm going to open your files now, and check if I can install them.
    Stay tuned!
Edit: decompressing the first file using The Unarchiver shows that the archive is "incomplete". Which leads me to think that you might have to concatenate the two files to make one "complete" .dmg file.
If so, once they are decompressed, open a Terminal (in Applications/Utility), then type "cat", and drag both files in the window, one after the other (preferably in the right order...), type a space, then give the final file any name you want, followed by the .dmg file extension:
    (e.g.:) "cat /Users/Your_Name/Desktop/File1.dmg /Users/Your_Name/File2.dmg /Users/Your_Name/Desktop/FinalFile.dmg"

    Hi Basis Expert,
I need your inputs for one of this query
The query is. Can we do oracle 11g software installation in parallel to SAP upgrade when the system is in Downtime phase.
The idea is running SAP upgrade and in parallel running oracle 11g software installation. So that we can reduced the time.
    Please share your valuable inputs.
    Regards,
    Anil Shenoy.

    yes, of course.
using different environment during the installation of the new engine, you could install the new oracle home 11 also tomorrow (including the SBP).
infact, before the ./RUNINSTALLER you have to set the environment
    setenv ORACLE_HOME /oracle/SID/112_64
    setenv ORACLE_HOME_SRC /oracle/SID/102_64
    setenv ORACLE_HOME_TGT /oracle/SID/11202
    setenv  LIBPATH $ORACLE_HOME/lib:$LIBPATH
    setenv PATH /oracle/SID/112_64/bin: $PATH
