Oracle + SSDs

Hi Friends
I'm running oracle 11.2.0.3.0 on windows environment.
We need to change our server that has began too old to attend our needs
We're planning to run a SSD raid 5 for improve performance. Even though raid 5 is not the best solution for HDDs, it would be faster enough to even perform better than 8 HDDs on raid 10.
Do you guys already run Oracle over SSDs RAID ?
What about the performance on writting?
What about the lifecycle of SSDs that are quite less than HDDs? I've heard from the vender that its about 6 years....
Can we share experiences on that?
Tks a lot

In my opinion, it is still a bleeding-edge technology. For my purposes, I avoid bleeding edge. Your purposes may be different. But you see, asking who's using it in production doesn't get much actual response. You have some amount of control over how interesting are the times you live in. The danger lies in making decisions based on what the vendors are selling, rather than your database needs. I can't see that much changes over a year, certainly in not how Oracle writes redo (although it has changed for exadata, the question becomes how long until the ability to [url http://structureddata.org/2011/10/12/exadata-smart-flash-logging-explained/]parallel write and only care about the fastest device is allowed to the rest of the world). I think it is hard to predict whether the self-tuning aspects of Oracle will handle these oddly fast devices appropriately, and if there are issues there, there could be some lag time before enough people complain that Oracle deals with it. Of course, they may be way ahead of me there, they aren't going to be completely reactive with a new version coming out, perhaps the developers got to play with new toys.
The EMC device someone mentioned sounds pretty cool, although I still have bitter memories of HP Autoraid moving stuff around inappropriately.
Of course the space shuttle was cool too. Note that the US is now dependent on big dumb Russian rockets.

  • Oracle VM 3.0, SSDs and hard partitioning

    I am new to virtualization and especially Oracle VM. We have been waiting for Oracle VM 3.0 to come out so that we can build 64 bit hardware drivers (as opposed to 32 Bit in Dom0 on OVM 2.x) for Fusion IO solid state PCI based accelerator cards.
    Our need to use Oracle VM at all is to do hard partitioning of CPU cores on our database server.
    With that said, our intention is to have 2 new DL585 G7 servers (we have 10 core or 12 core CPU options), with 2 Fusion IO SSD (2.4 TB) inside one server, and a FiberChannel hard disc enclosure with 24TB of storage shareable between the two.
    We strive for extreme data access performance for certain parts of our database system.
    In playing with OVM 3.0 so far, I see that local storage (as the accelerator cards would show up as) is not really appropriate for Production Systems. It appears I can create a Repository on these physical disks and then present them to the VM guest. Then add these cards as my Oracle ASM disks for my "fast" storage, and do the same with the FiberChannel storage for my "slower" disks. Because of the Local Storage used for part of the VM guest, we would not be able to Live Migrate or have High availability I believe. Is this correct?
    If we have the two servers as mentioned above. Could I take the database VM down and move it to the other server (ie Cold Migration)? The local storage (ie the accelerator cards) could physically be moved from one physical host to the other, but I am not sure, since this is virtualized disk, if this would be allowed or how it could be recognized on the other Oracle VM Server. This might be a "dream", but might be something we would like to do if an emergency arose or if more maintenance needed to be done on Server 1. Any comments?
    Does anyone have other solutions to run Solid State disks (approximately 2TB worth) and Oracle VM, running a single guest that runs the database? We have been unable to find iSCSI or FiberChannel enclosures that can handle solid state drives in the 1 to 2 TB range of capacity. So perhaps there are other enclosures out there that can act as Shared Storage that can operate with SSDs. Thank you for any comments and suggestions.

Whether or not this means moving your hardware is up to you.

Our Exadata machines have 5TB of Flash storage per cell, so I know we have such options.

  • Poor SSD disk IO speed in Oracle Linux 6.3 (Windows migration)

    Hello,
    I am trying to migrate from Windows to Oracle Linux, but I'm seeing very poor disk IO speeds. It's probably a tuning thing, but I'm relatively new to Oracle Linux and could use some detailed advice.
    I took one physical server and migrated it from Windows 2008R2 to Oracle Linux 6.3 while maintaing the same Oracle version (11.2.0.3 Enterprise with ASM) and the same hardware (quad CPU 48 core HP DL585 G7 with 128GB RAM, 7 LSI 9200-8e HBAs, 28 Samsung SSD Drives). Disk IO performance, as measured using Oracle IO Calibration, was ~7,800MB/Second and 440K IOPS under windows but fell to ~2,400MB/Second and 250K IOPS under Linux.
    Oracle Linux and the DB were installed using default values. The Oracle tools seem to have done a great job setting all of the obvious IO tuning parameters like the scheduler, but I figure that there are other important IO-related OS or DB parameters and that I have failed to configure the system properly.
    My goal for the migration is sequential read IO speed and I would have bet money that Linux would provide better performance than Windows. I still think that it should. What basic IO tuning should I do for Oracle Linux using ASM and SSD drives?
    Thank you!
    Some details:
    Oracle DB 11.2.0.3 enterprise installed via the GUI with the "Data Warehousing" template
    ASM - single disk group, 28 SSD disks, AU=4MB
    Oracle memory: Automatic memory management, 64GB allocated
    Non-default Oracle params: filesystemio_options=setall, disk_asynch_io=true
    Edited by: 975524 on Dec 7, 2012 8:56 AM

    Thanks "dude" for the advice. Unfortunately, I am still seeing low IO speeds.
    The default scheduler for OEL 6.3 with the DB pre-install package is deadline, which seemed like a far better choice than CFS. Based on your advice, I tried noop this morning and got the same results. I also tested with and without hugepages and saw only a small difference - at least in IO speed - I did not test overall DB performance. Lastly, I understand the /dev/shm issue, but even with the default configuration I'm getting 64MB allocated to Oracle, which is far more than is needed to test sequential IO - in fact I can get better results by using less RAM.
    To answer your questions, I am testing using Oracle IO Calibration, which is an IO testing feature of the Oracle DB that is similar to the standalone Oracle Orion tool. I also performed a few tests using IOMeter, but found that the Linux version of that product was not giving me consistent data. The overall trend was the same however - IO on the Linux version far lower than the same hardware running Windows. The system is functioning very well, so I assume that everything has been installed correctly, but I do not think that it was installed optimally - thus my cry for help.
    I am so surprised that Linux is showing slow IO!

  • Oracle DB with SSD

    I have a HP DL 380 G7 + 2 Xeon Processors + 12GB DDR + 6HDD 10k RAID5
    I know that RAID 5 is not the best choise for a Oracle database with writing, but it's cheaper than RAID 10.
    But the Database was smooth, no locks, relative fast, but there is a new legislation that forces anyone to have a certificated application. This certificated application records everything you do, every click, every document you create, modify or read. Has you can imagine this made the database writing 10 to 100, and know it's getting slower.
    Instead of going for RAID 10, i was thinking about SSD Technology.
    Would it work to put a HP SSD/HD on the server for caching? I could put Redo logs, Temp, control files, etc inside this drive, to avoid too much writing processes on the SAS Drives.
    This drives are very very fast, but they have a low life expectancy, if i'm not mistaken it's about 3 to 5 years with lots of writing.
    What is you opinion? Could it work? Should i forget this and go straight to RAID 10?
    Regards.

    RAID 5 with 3 disks runs slow.
    So i put 5 disks and 1 spare.
    I still have 2 more disks i can increase in the server. I could get 2 more disk and use RAID 1, and place the Redo logs.
    I used DB-Tuna, and i checked that some update SQL statements lock the DB. These are very powerful statements that update lots of tables. This only happens when the users are introducing invoice with lots of products for one company.
    This company is very complex, there is a major company and 7 more small companies inside.
    One company receives all the products and then distributes for all the other smaller companies. This is the operation that usually locks the DB. There is lots of updates, and when they are doing this operation, it locks all the other users.
    Beside this operation, the database works better, but not fast enough.
    I increased the Redo log size up to 100mb, it started to run better, but not efficient enough. I'm afraid to increase too much, and when the switch occur it can lock the DB for a long time.
    I suspect that the SQL statement is not at it's best, but the programers said that they have the same application running in the other companies that work well.
    I don't have how to confirm this, so i have to do the best that i can.
    Like i said before, this could be because of the certification of the application, because before this, the database was running great. When we installed the new application, it started all of this problems, the disks are working harder than ever, everything is being recorded for the financial department.
    Increasing 2 more SAS disks for redo logs is a great idea. I'm not sure if this RAID controller can control 2 different raids at the same time, and if it can, is it efficient? Must look at the controllers manual.

  • Oracle and SSD

    Hi,
    Im looking into using Flash SSD with oracle,
    I know that oracle is designed to run on a magnetic disk system, but are there any settings etc that can be used to configure an oracle solution to be optomised to use flash SSD?
    any help would be appriciated
    Cheers

    Exactly what limits the usefulness of the procedure. I suggest doing a profile of the system. You only use the disks that you have datafiles on.
    First make a copy of the DBA_RSRC_IO_CALIBRATE table:
    CREATE TABLE CAL_IO AS SELECT * FROM DBA_RSRC_IO_CALIBRATE;
    Then use the following pl/sql routine to see what the effects of increasing the number of disks with fixed latency is:
    set serveroutput on
    Declare
    v_max_iops PLS_INTEGER:=1;
    v_max_mbps PLS_INTEGER:=1;
    v_actual_latency PLS_INTEGER:=1;
         i integer;
    begin
    for i in 1..30 loop <-- change this to you max number of disks
    dbms_resource_manager.calibrate_io(i,30,
    max_iops=>v_max_iops,
    max_mbps=>v_max_mbps,
    actual_latency=>v_actual_latency);
    dbms_output.put_line('Results follow: ');
    dbms_output.put_line('Max IOPS: '||v_max_iops);
    dbms_output.put_line('Max MBPS: '||v_max_mbps);
    dbms_output.put_line('Actual Latency: '||v_actual_latency);
    insert into io_cal select * from dba_rsrc_io_calibrate;
    commit;
    end loop;
    end;
    Then truncate CAL_IO (after pulling the data out into a spreadsheet) then run:
    set serveroutput on
    Declare
    v_max_iops PLS_INTEGER:=1;
    v_max_mbps PLS_INTEGER:=1;
    v_actual_latency PLS_INTEGER:=1;
         i integer;
    begin
    for i in 10..105 loop
    if (mod(i,5):=0) then
    dbms_resource_manager.calibrate_io(I,30,
    max_iops=>v_max_iops,
    max_mbps=>v_max_mbps,
    actual_latency=>v_actual_latency);
    dbms_output.put_line(‘Results follow: ‘);
    dbms_output.put_line(‘Max IOPS: ‘||v_max_iops);
    dbms_output.put_line(‘Max MBPS: ‘||v_max_mbps);
    dbms_output.put_line(‘Actual Latency: ‘||v_actual_latency);
    insert into io_cal select * from dba_rsrc_io_calibrate;
    commit;
    end if;
    end loop;
    end;
    To see the affects of latency variation on your ideal number of disks.
    In my testing the number of disks (after getting past 3) made little difference, but increasing the max allowed latency did.

    I am about to buy a 13" MacBook Pro with 256 GB SSD.  I want a Windows partition set up.  What size should it be, and can I load Win XP Pro or does it need to be Win 7 or 8?

    You can use XP but it has to be in a Virtual Machine and OS X as the host instead of as a dual boot system with XP in its own partition. That is how I run Windows on my Mac, in a Virtual Machine.
    Take a look at VritualBox from Oracle. It's free and works very well.

  • Solaris 11.2 x86 installation problem on GPT partitioned SSD

    I recently bought a new computer with Windows 8.1 pre-installed on it. I want to install Solaris 11.2 as dual-boot together with the pre-installed windows 8.1.
    The computer has a 128 GB SSD which is GPT partitioned. The SSD has 5 GPT partitions which are in use. I used a partition manager in Windows to shrink the size of the 5th partition (the windows system partition) so that i now have about 31 GB of unpartitioned, unused space after the 5 used partitions where i want to install Solaris into.
    For installation, I downloaded the Solaris text installer ISO and burned it onto a CD-R. Now, whenever the installation menu shows me the GPT partitions of my SSD and i choose "Use a GPT partition of the disk" it always goes back to the first menu screen where it says "Welcome to the Oracle Solaris installtion menu".
    Also, the installation menu shows the 5 used GPT partitions correctly, but then it shows me not one, but two partitions as "unused" with a size of 0.0 MB.
    What am i doing wrong?

    If you have support, then you will be better served by opening a support case.
    Assuming you don't, or you would have gone there already... There may well be bugs with supporting multiple OS's under GPT partitions.  I have no idea how much testing we did for such cases, and to be totally honest we put little effort into dual-booting systems these days, as using VM's in VIrtualBox or other VM managers is a better answer for 90i+% of people.
    That said, posting the output from prtvtoc for the disk would give someone a chance to see if there's an obvious bug.

  • Yosemite on 13" MBP(Mid 2012) running super slow on standard configuration. Is there a rock solid way that I can make it fast? or Yosemite is designed to work only on PCIe SSDs with 16GB RAM? Missing Steve Jobs :(

    My 13" MBP MD 101 / A1278 / 9,2 / Mid 2012 is still in production and it is performing like a windows pc; super slow after updating it to Yosemite.I can't afford to upgrade its HDD to SSD and 4GB RAM to 16GB.
    Tried everything found on internet, nothing got successful in making it fast as it was once with mountain lion. I hope I could have Yosemite's features and leopard's responsiveness and stability.
    I think Apple guys have designed Yosemite only for SSDs only. They should design OS X according to every mac's different hardware, like if I have a spinning old hard drive it should mould itself to the capabilities of it and not demand responsiveness of an SSD.
    Please do let me know if anyone have brilliant new idea other than found on the internet.

  • Oracle 11g result cache and TimesTen

    Oracle 11g has introduced the concept of result cache whereby the result set of frequently executed queries are stored in cache and used later when other users request the same query. This is different from caching the data blocks and exceuting the query over and over again.
    Tom Kyte calls this just-in-time materialized view whereby the results are dynamically evaluated without DBA intervention
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/07-sep/o57asktom.html
    My point is that in view of utilities like result_cache and possible use of Solid State Disks in Oracle to speed up physical I/O etc is there any need for a product like TimesTen? It sounds to me that it may just asdd another layer of complexity?

    Oracle result cache ia a useful tool but it is distinctly different from TimesTen. My understanding of Oracle's result cache is caching results set for seldom changing data like look up tables (currencies ID/code), reference data that does not change often (list of counter parties) etc. It would be pointless for caching result set where the underlying data changes frequently.
    There is also another argument for SQL result cache in that if you are hitting high on your use of CPUs and you have enough of memory then you can cache some of the results set thus saving on your CPU cycles.
    Considering the arguments about hard wired RDBMS and Solid State Disks (SSD), we can talk about it all day but having SSD does not eliminate the optimiser consideration for physical I/O. A table scan is a table scan whether data resides on SCSI or SSD disk. SSD will be faster but we are still performing physical IOs.
    With regard to TimesTen, the product positioning is different. TimesTen is closer to middletier than Oracle. It is designed to work closely to application layer whereas Oracle has much wider purpose. For real time response and moderate volumes there is no way one can substitue TimesTen with any hard wired RDBMS. The request for result cache has been around for sometime. In areas like program trading and market data where the underlying data changes rapidly, TimesTen will come very handy as the data is real time/transient and the calculations have to be done almost realtime, with least complications from the execution engine. I fail to see how one can deploy result cache in this scenario. Because of the underlying change of data, Oracle will be forced to calculate the queries almost everytime and the result cache will be just wasted.
    Hope this helps,
    Mich

  • Simon Greener's Morton Key Clustering in Oracle Spatial

    Hi folks,
    Apologies for the rambling.  With mattyschell heading for greener open source big apple pastures I am looking for new folks to bounce ideas and code off.  I was thinking this week about the discussion last autumn over spatial clustering.
    https://community.oracle.com/thread/3617887
    During the course of the thread we all kind of pooh-poohed spatial clustering as not much of solution, myself being one of the primary poohers.  Yet the concept certainly remains as something to consider regardless of our opinions.  The yellow book, the Greener/Ravada book, Simon's recent treatise (http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/products/spatial/pdf/biwa_2015/biwa2015_uc_comparativeperformance_greener.pdf), they all put forward clustering such that at the very least we should consider it a technique we should be able as professionals to do - a tool in the toolbox whether or not it always is the right answer.  I am mildly (very mildly) curious to see if Kothuri, Godfrind and Beinat will recycle their section on spatial clustering with the locked-down MD.HHENCODE into their 12c revision out this summer.  If they don't then what is the replacement for this technique?  If they do then we return to all of our griping about this ancient routine that Simon implies may date back to the CHS and their hhcode indexes - at least its not written in Java!
    Anyhow, so I've been in the midst this month of refreshing some of the datasets I manage and considering clustering the larger tables whilst I am at it.  Do I really expect to see huge performance gains?   Well... not really.  But it does seem like something that should be easy to accomplish, certainly something that "doesn't hurt" and shows that I am on top of things (e.g. "checks the box").  But returning to the discussion from last fall, just what is the best way to do this in Oracle Spatial?
    So if we agree to ignore poor old MD.HHENCODE, then what?  Hilbert curves look nifty but no one seems to be stepping up with the code for them.  And this reroutes us back around to Simon and his Morton key code.
    http://www.spatialdbadvisor.com/oracle_spatial_tips_tricks/138/spatial-sorting-of-data-via-morton-key
    So who all is using Simon's code currently?  If you read that discussion from last fall there does not seem to be anyone doing so and we never heard back from Cat Person on either what he decided to do or what his name is.
    I thought I could take a stab at streamlining Simon's process somewhat to make things easier for myself to roll this onto many tables.  I put together the following small package
    https://github.com/pauldzy/DZ_SDO_CLUSTER/tree/master/Packages
    In particular I wanted to bundle up the side issues of how to convert your lines and polygons into points, automate things somewhat and provide a little verification function to see what results look like.  So again nothing that Simon does not already walk through on his webpage, just make it bit easier to bang out on your tables without writing a separate long SQL process for each one.
    So for example to use Simon's Morton key logic, you need to know the extent envelope of the data (in order to define a proper grid).  So if its a large table, you'd want to stash the envelope info in the metadata.  You can do this with the update_metadata_envelope procedure or just suffer through the sdo_aggr_mbr each time if you don't want to go that route (I have one table of small watershed polygons that takes about 9 hours to run sdo_aggr_mbr upon).  So just run things at the sql prompt
    SELECT
    DZ_SDO_CLUSTER.MORTON_UPDATE(
        p_table_name => 'CATCHMENT_NP21'
       ,p_column_name => 'SHAPE'
       ,p_grid_size => 1000
    FROM dual;
    This will return the update clause populated with the values to use with the morton_key wrapper function, e.g. "morton_key(SHAPE,160.247133275879,-17.673722530871,.0956820001136141,.0352063207508021)".  So then just paste that into an update statement
    UPDATE foo
    SET my_morton_key = dz_sdo_cluster.morton_key(
        SHAPE
       ,160.247133275879
       ,-17.673722530871
       ,.0956820001136141
       ,.0352063207508021
    Then rebuild your table sorting on the morton_key.  I just use the TOAD rebuild table tool and manually add the order by clause to the rebuild script.  I let TOAD do all the work of moving the indexes, constraints and grants to the new table.  I imagine there are other ways to do this.
    The final function is meant to be popped into Oracle mapviewer or something similar to show your family and friends the results.
    SELECT
    dz_sdo_cluster.morton_visualize(
        'NHDPLUS'
       ,'NHDFLOWLINE_NP21_ACU'
       ,'SHAPE'
       ,'OBJECTID'
       ,'100'
       ,10000
       ,'MORTON_KEY'
    FROM dual;
    Look Mom, there it is!
    So anyhow this is first stab at things and interested in feedback or suggestions for improvement.  Did I get the logic correct?  Don't spare my feelings if I botched something.  Note that like Simon I passed on the matter of just how to determine the proper grid size.  I've been using 1000 for the continental US + Hawaii/PR/VI and sitting here this morning I think that probably is too large.  Of course it depends on the size of the geometries and thus the density of the resulting points.  With water features this can vary a lot from place to place, so perhaps 1000 is okay.  What would the algorithm be to determine a decent grid size?  It occurs to me I could tell you the average feature count per morton key value, okay well its about 10.  That seems small to me.  So I could see another function in this package that returns some kind of summary on the results of the keying to tell you if your grid size estimate was reasonable.
    Cheers and Happy Saturday,
    Paul

    I've done some spatial clustering testing this week.
    Firstly, to reiterate the purpose of spatial clustering as I see it:  spatial clustering can be of benefit in situations where frequent window based spatial queries are made.  In particular it can be very useful in web mapping scenarios where a map server is requesting data using SDO_FILTER or SDO_ANYINTERACT and there is a need to return the data as quickly as possible.  If the data required to satisfy the query can be squeezed into as few blocks as possible, then the IO overhead is clearly reduced.
    As Bryan mentioned above, once the data is in the buffer cache, then the advantage of spatial clustering is reduced.  However it is not always possible to get/keep enough of the data in the buffer cache, so I believe spatial clustering still has merits, particularly if it can be implemented alongside spatial partitioning.
    I ran the tests using an 11.2.0.4 database on my laptop.  I have a hard disk rather than SSD, so the effects of excessive IO are exaggerated.  The database is configured with the default 8kb block size.
    Initially, I created a table PARCELS:
    create table parcels (
    id            integer,
    created_date  date,
    x            number,
    y            number,
    val1          varchar2(20),
    val2          varchar2(100),
    val3          varchar2(200),
    geometry      mdsys.sdo_geometry,
    hilbert_key  number);
    I inserted 2.8 million polygons into this table.  The CREATED_DATE is the actual date the polygons were captured.  I populated val1, val2 and val3 with string values to pad the rows out to simulate some business data sitting alongside the sdo_geometry.
    I set X,Y to the first ordinate of the polygon and then set hilbert_key = sdo_pc_pkg.hilbert_xy2d(power(2,31), x, y).
    I then created 4 tables to base the tests upon:
    PARCELS_RANDOM:  Ordered by dbms_random.random - an absolute worst case scenario.  Unrealistic, but worthwhile as a benchmark.
    PARCELS_BASE_DATE:  Ordered by CREATED_DATE.  This is probably pretty close to how the original source data is structured on disk.
    PARCELS_RTREE:  Ordered by RTree.  Achieved by inserting based on an SDO_FILTER query
    PARCELS_HILBERT:  Ordered by the hilbert_key attribute
    As a first test, I counted the number of blocks required to satisfy an SDO_FILTER query.  E.g.
    select count(distinct(dbms_rowid.rowid_block_number(rowid)))
    from parcels_rtree
    where sdo_filter(geometry,
                    sdo_geometry(2003, 2157, null, sdo_elem_info_array(1, 1003, 3),
                                    sdo_ordinate_array(644232,773809, 651523,780200))) = 'TRUE';
    I'm assuming dbms_rowid.rowid_block_number(rowid) is suitable for this.
    I ran this on each table and repeated it over three windows.
    Results:
    So straight off we can see that the random ordering gave pretty horrific results as the data required to satisfy the query is spread over a large number of blocks.  The natural date based clustering was far better. RTree and Hilbert based clustering reduced this by a further 50% with Hilbert just nosing out RTree.
    Since web mapping is the use case I am most likely to target, I then setup a test case as follows:
    Setup layers in GeoServer for each of the tables
    Used a script to generate 1,000 random squares over the extent of the data, ranging from 200m to 500m in width and height.
    Used JMeter to make a WMS request for a png of the each of the 1,000 windows.  JMeter was run sequentially with just one thread, so it waited for each request to complete before starting the next.  I ran these tests 3 times to balance out the results, flushing the buffer cache before each run.
    Results:
    Again the random ordering performed woefully bad - somewhat exacerbated by the quality of the disk on my laptop.  The natural date based clustering performed far better.  RTree and hilbert based clustering further reduced the time by more than half.
    In summary, the results suggest that spatial clustering is worth the effort if:
    the data is not already reasonably well clustered
    you've got a decent quantity of data
    you're expecting a lot of window based queries which need to be returned as quickly as possible
    you don’t expect to be able to fit all the data in the buffer cache
    When it comes to deciding between RTree and Hilbert (or Morton/z-order or any other space filling curve method).... I found that the RTree method can be a bit slow on large datasets, although this may not matter as a one off task.  Plus it requires a spatial index on the source table to start off with.  The key based methods are based on an xy, so for lines and polygons there is an intermediate step to extract an xy.  I would tend to recommend this approach if you also partition the data based on a subset of the cluster key.

  • Oracle 11g R2 RAC on vmware

    Hi All,
    I have read many blogs and article about installing Oracle 11g R2 RAC on vmware. For self learning process what should be minimum configuration of hardware.
    Minimum physical memory will be 8 GB what is minumum processor required ( 2 Cores / 4 Threads) or ( 4 Cores / 8 Threads)?
    Native operating system will be Windows 7 64 bit.
    Thx.

    You wouldn't be doing much with the processors so it won' t matter hugely having a dual or quad core. As long as there is sufficient RAM(like 8gig) , you should be fine. Try to get SSD if you want more faster performance from the machine in terms of IO.
