Oracle Starts on Linux - Help

Hi All,
Ok I've re-intalled the complete Oracle 9ir2 on my Mandrake 8.2 the installation runs fine and I don't had error messages.
The database go to work and I can change the table size and some other parameters from Enterprise oemapp dbastudio.
But after reboot the PC, I cannot put the database working again.
I'm trying to use sqlplus but everytime the message "sp1<lang>.msg not found. In fact, the file exist in /oracle/OraHome1/plsql/admin. There are 2 files there sp1ptb.msg and sp1us.msg.
I have checked the tnsnames, listener and sqlnet and the allthings appears correct.
PLease some one can help me.
Thank in advance - Eduardo

  • Help starting Unbreakable Linux and Oracle

    Hello
I am getting ready to install Unbreakable Linux on a 70GB hard drive is that enough space?
I will be multibooting Windows 2003 Server 10GB, XP 30GB and Unbreakable Linux 30GB on the 70GB hard drive.
    These are my questions:
1)When I had installed Fedora installed the autopartition configured my partition automatically like this using Grub. Will Unbreakable Linux's autopartition do this the same way that Fedora did, what would I have to do to set this up :
    VG VolGroup00 30720m VolGroup
    LV LogVol01 992m swap
    LV LogVol00 29728m ext3
    /dev/sda/
    /dev/sda1 1 255 2000m vfat
    /dev/sda2 256 9545 72872m extended
    /dev/sda5 256 1785 12001m vfat "W2003 was on this partition"
/hda6 1786 5609 29996m vfat "XP was on this partition"
    /had7 5610 5622 101m ext3 /boot
    /hda8 5623 9545 30772m physical V "Fedora on this partition"
    2) Is Unbreakable Linux good for running Oracle and a web server, replication and Log shipping?
    3) What web server runs on Unbreakable Linux and how difficult is it to install?
    4) What kind of security is good for Unbreakable Linux ?
    5) What kind of firewall is good for Unbreakable Linux ?
    6) What kind of antivirus and spyware/malware is good for Unbreakable Linux ?
    7) What browser runs on Unbreakable Linux and where do I get it from?
    8) Do I run startx to get the gui if not then what?
    9) How do I get help if I have a problem setting up any of the above?

I am getting ready to install Unbreakable Linux on a 70GB hard drive is that enough space?Yes, definitely.
1)When I had installed Fedora installed the autopartition configured my partition automatically like this using Grub. Will Unbreakable Linux's autopartition do this the same way that Fedora did, what would I have to do to set this up :Not sure that if it will EL do automaticaly the same layout as Fedora but you have all informations so you can do manual partitioning.
2)Is Unbreakable Linux good for running Oracle and a web server, replication and Log shipping?Of course it is. Note Unbreakable Linux is a support program not a distribution.
    3) What web server runs on Unbreakable Linux and how difficult is it to install?AFAIK almost any major distribution is shipped with Apcache HTTP server.
So you can install HTTP server using package located in installation media.
Or you can download sources and compile your own configuration or preffered HTTP server (I preffer this option). Everything goes easy with manual: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/
    https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/x8664-multi-install-guide/
    4) What kind of security is good for Unbreakable Linux? What exactly do you mean under "security" term?
    5) What kind of firewall is good for Unbreakable Linux ?Each distribution (including this one) is shipped with excellent stateful (of course stateless too :-) ) firewall called "iptables" which is included in Linux kernel. More info (documentation and HOWTOs) you can find at http://netfilter.org
    6) What kind of antivirus and spyware/malware is good for Unbreakable Linux ?There is some Linux antivirus SW for example AVG, NOD but viruses are very rare in the Linux world and most of them are just "Proof of concept". So at this time is client antivirus SW just waste of money.
Spyware and malware - forget about it when we speaking about Linux (at this time).
    7) What browser runs on Unbreakable Linux and where do I get it from?Graphic: Firefox, Konqueror, Nautilus Text: lynx, elinks - all these are included in Linux distribution.
    8) Do I run startx to get the gui if not then what? You can start X server automaticaly during boot. This is provided by default runlevel configuration in /etc/inittab file (in this case it's run level 5). If your server has default run level 3 and you want to start X server you can log as root, and temporary change the run level to 5 by command (init 5 or telinit 5).
There is not reason for starting X server when you are using Linux machine as database server or HTTP server.
    9) How do I get help if I have a problem setting up any of the above? There is Ubreakable Linux program: http://www.oracle.com/technologies/linux/ubl-faq.pdf
And for non critical issues you can also use public linux forums like this :-)

  • Oracle 8i for Linux Starter Kit

    Hello,
Need an Oracle God to help me with 8i for linux!
I am would like to learn about oracle database software. Just purchased the Starter Kit that includes 8.1.6 Enterprise Edition. Now I have done some research on the install for this and found out that it is very difficult. I tried to cookbook together the install from various posts/oracle web site/etc. I was successful in getting it to install, but could not get the stubs patch to install.
I now have a fresh install of Mandrake 8.0. No changes have been made to glibc.
First question is where to get the correct glibc rpm to keep the installer from crashing, and from causing other problems to my system. MandrakeUpdate was smoking crack and fetching a different file for glibc 2.2.2-5, then it said that it would conflict with gcc or something like that. I want to make sure I am getting the appropriate
    files.
Second, on page 19 of the book, I do ok until it comes to setting the environment variables. Am I supposed to login as my Oracle user, an type '$HOME/.bash_profile' to set these variables? This relates to the problem with the stubs patch saying that ORACLE_HOME was not in the environment.
Third, I am using this link to get to the stubs file.
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/linux/oracle8i/glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz
    My plan is this.
    1. Update the appropriate glibc rpm to allow the installer to run.
    2. Install Oracle based on the books instruction verbatim.
    3. Do not install the educational database. First install the stubs as above.
    Questions.
Will a custom install allow me to keep the installer from attempting the database?
Once the stubs are installed, where is dbassist located to install the database after the fact?
Please Please help me with this situation. I would really like to learn databases, Oracle in particular. If this does not work, I doubt that I can return the book, considering the cd is open.
Thanks in advance for any kind assistance.

Here is a mini update since my last post...
ok, by updating my glibc stuffs from 2.2.2-4 to 2.2.2-5 I am able to get the runinstaller to work (it echos a bunch of 'map failed' in the console though I wonder if there is something wrong with that)... however since I am only doing now at work I can only try to install on my laptop which is does not have enough HD space. I am down to 230M left and there is no way it will install so I will try it again on my PC after I go home today. Btw, here are the files that I have updated:
    glibc-2.2.2-5mdk.i586.rpm
    glibc-devel-2.2.2-5mdk.i586.rpm
    glibc-profile-2.2.2-5mdk.i586.rpm
    ldconfig-2.2.2-5mdk.i586.rpm
    nscd-2.2.2-5mdk.i586.rpm
You can get these from any mirror sites I think. Or run your MandrakeUpdate under the Config/Packaging menu (you need to select a mirror site by clicking mirror site update).
    As for the SRPMS/glibc-2.2.2-5mdk.src.rpm...
I can't find this file in any of the mirror site.
However, now I am facing another issue. I tried the "echo $ORACLE_HOME" as suggested but it returns me with an empty line same as I try a make up env like "echo $dafadas"... so does this means that it is not reading the ORACLE_HOME in my .bash_profile in the oracle account? I also notice that even I did all the same procedures, while in RH6.2 the oracle install path is my $ORACLE_HOME, in Mandrake8 the path is /home/oracle/OraHome1? I stopped at this step and didn't go forward because 1, there is not enough HD space to continue and 2, I am not sure that the path is correct. If anyone reached this state and went beyond please let me know if I am on the right track or not...
P.S. I remember doing that same thing about not installing the database during the installation for oracle 8.0.5; however, I couldn't access to the database even using my oracle account later on. I don't know if that is a permission problem or something like that.
    Thanks in advance

There are two databases orcl, orcl1
    suddenly some problem is coming.

    Database "orcl1" warm started

    when we do sqlplus /nolog

    all are successful.
if we check select * from v$logfile, it shows of orcl.
    we want of orcl1.
    what to do
    thanks in advance.

If it's not the active group and there are at least 2 other groups, you can drop the group (and recreate it afterwards).
In MOUNT status connect in sqlplus as sysdba:
    alter database drop logfile group 3;
If the logfile is the Current logfile, then do the following (possible loss of data):
    recover database until cancel;
    Type Cancel when prompted
    alter database open resetlogs;
Hopefully you don't see something like:
ORA-01547: warning: RECOVER succeeded but OPEN RESETLOGS would get error
    below
ORA-01194: file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
    ORA-01110: data file 1: xxxxxxxx
In this case , without backups, you have to recreate the database.

  • Launching Wizards in Oracle 11G on Linux install

    Hi,
Just wondering if someone can tell me where the wizard launches are located in the Linux install.
    Thanks,
    Zach

    Hans,
I have heard them referred to in different ways,
Configuration assistance, Wizards, etc. Say if I
didnt want to create a database by command line. I
wanted to walk through "Configuration Assistant" and
choose defaults for the quick and easy setup. No worries. Using the correct terminology gets the right answer faster, and the wrong terminology simply means that we have to test and verify the question. Always works that way.
One definition of professional is 'a person who knows the right name for the tools'. Based on that, I've known come amateurs who are much better than the pros.
I would like to figure out where to launch the
"Configuration Assistant" that might let me do that.
I know in Windows environment, they are located right
in the Oracle start menu. Actually, if you took a moments gander you might have noticed that the 'Start Menu' is nothing more than a set of shortcuts. There is literally no program 'In' the Start Menu.
Right clicking on the Start Menu shortcut and looking at the properties would tell you the name of the Assistant and that it is located in the ORACLE_HOME/bin directory.
And the nice thing about Oracle is that the names are pretty much the same in Linux, Unix and Windows (and others as well) Due to historic silliness, Windows needs a .exe at the end of the file name, so in Windows it is netca.exe and in Linux it's netca ... and so on.
    >
Thanks for any help.Hope the above helps

    Hi Edsteve,

Lisener was not up after that..When we tried to start the listener, got 'No listener" message.Exactly *how* did you try to start the listener? I've never seen a "no listener" message from a failed attempt to start the listener. And all oracle error messages come with a message code, something like "ORA-nnnnn" or "TNS-nnnnn" that makes it easier to look up the *exact* problem.
we also tried to reinstall NETCA..What led you to try to reinstall NETCA? And what did you do to try to reinstall it? I've never seen an installation/re-installation of *just* netca ...
but it doesnt work...I don't find "doesn't work" in the Oracle error message manual, but a google search of "doesn't work" returned 300,000,000 hits.
and also doesnt get DBCA ,OUI...etc....can you help me to up the services????I have no idea what you mean by that statement.
I'd like to help. I really would. But in order to get help, you've got to provide more specific information. Actual error messages - complete with message number - is a minimum requirement. Working from a command line and using copy and paste to show *exactly* what you do and *exactly* what response you get would be *very* helpful.

  • Applying patchset 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.1 Oracle client on Linux

    Hi folks,
I want to apply patchset 10.2.0.3 to a 10.2.0.1 Oracle "Client" on Linux (both 32bit and 64bit). So, I started with the 64bit Linux.
    1. installed the 10.2.0.1 Client,
    2. downloaded the patchset 10.2.0.3 (5337014) for 64bit Linux,
    3. read the documentation for the 5337014 patchset
I also downloaded the patchset 5601428 (specified in document 412160.1 referenced in the patchset document), and patchsets 4689959 and 5632264 (specified in document 396671.1 - which is Time Zone related).
I understand that if I do apply the 10.2.0.3 patchset to a 10.2.0.1 database server installation, then I need to apply the patchsets 5601428 and 4689959 (or 5632264) but for just applying the patchset 10.2.0.3 (5337014) to a 10.2.0.1 client, do I still need to apply 4689959 and/or 5632264 ?
will simply (only) applying 10.2.0.3 (5337014) will do the job on the Oracle Client ?
I have done this so many times for the Database Server but haven't done it for the Oracle Client - did search the forums and Metalink but did not find anything specific to applying patchsets to Oracle Client installations.
    Thank you and Best regards
    Zafer

Somebody replied my query on Metalink telling me applying the patchset is the same as the server and to follow the installation manual instructions :) Oracle patchset installation help file (document) could be clearer for the Client installation (as they did include explicit sections for RAC's, etc in the same doc).

    su - $ORA_OWNER -c "$ORA_HOME/bin/lsnrctl stop"
    rm -f /var/lock/subsys/dbora
    esac
but this is not working this code starts listener successfully but unable to start DATABASE. please help me out.

Creating /etc/init.d/dbora is not enough, you need to create symbolic K(ill) and S(start) links to e.g. /etc/rc5.d according to your runlevel.
If you are on Linux you can use chkconfig command to make appropriate updates.
You may want to check "lsnrctl status" to verify which listener (home) is actually running.
