We have CR11.5 reports that works using Oracle Stored Procedure.  We are planning to upgrade to CR2011 but the report fails with the error message Failed to retrieve data from database.  Details HY000 may not perform insert/delete/update operation inside a READ ONLY transaction

Hello Don,
I am trying to use OLE DB to access the stored procedure in the oracle. I can see the stored procedure in the crystal report with the fields but whenever i refresh i face a message box
the text of the message box is as follows

    That works?I dunno. The below definitely works, but like I said, I've only
    ever done it with one output parameter (and that has always
    been a ResultSet).
    String callableQuery = "{?= call my_package.my_call(?, ?)}"
    Yes I have done that and at least in terms of my code it wasn't just a result set.
    But not with two.

    A 'file' is a file system entity. There is no way to pass a 'file' anywhere. Not PL/SQL. Not java.
    Now you can pass a file path (a string) in java and to PL/SQL.
    Or you can pass xml data (a string) in java and to PL/SQL. For PL/SQL you could use eithe a varchar2, if the xml is rather small, or a blob/clob.

  • Calling an Oracle stored procedure using Toplink API - Please help

    Hi,
    We are evaluating Toplink as a possible data access layer in large service-oriented application. The ability to call db stored procedures from within business object layer is crucial for our architechture.
    I am trying to follow toplink application developer's guide examples on how to call stored procedures using toplink.
    I have the folling java code:
    call.setProcedureName("PR_ROMAN_TEST");
    call.addNamedArgument("IN_PARAM");
    call.addNamedOutputArgument("OUT_PARAM");
    ValueReadQuery query = new ValueReadQuery();
    query.setCall(call);
    query.addArgument("IN_PARAM");
    Vector params = new Vector();
    params.addElement(new Integer(5));
    Number result = (Number) session.executeQuery(query, params);
    This generates the following SQL statement:
    BEGIN PR_ROMAN_TEST(IN_PARAM=>5, OUT_PARAM=>?); END;
    An attempt to execute it causes a
    java.sql.SQLException: Invalid column index.
    As I understand it, this exception is thrown because of the "?" in place of the out-parameter value holder.
    The SQL statement that I would want toplink to generate and execute should look like:
    DECLARE result number; BEGIN PR_ROMAN_TEST(IN_PARAM=>5, OUT_PARAM=>result); END;
    , but how do I achieve it and how do I capture the return value, all using toplink api?
    Please help
    Thank you in advance,
    Roman

  • How to call Oracle Stored Procedure using EDQ

    Can someone tell me how to use Oracle Stored Procedure call in EDQ, sample scripts/steps will be really helpful. Thanks!

    It is also possible to do this using a custom processor in EDQ. The processor needs to do something very similar to the external task above (opens a DB connection, authenticates, runs a stored procedure).
    If you need this, please talk us through the use case so we can determine if it is the best fit. In some ways, an external task is better as logically a stored procedure call is normally divorced from any process logic in EDQ.

    and DBTimeStamp,too). The execution freezes at "Cmd.Execute".
    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanx for any tips

    As far as I know the documentation on CR & stored procedures says that the REF CURSOR has to be a strongly bound one.
    Could you go into a little more detail? Do you mean I should put a multi-valued parameter into a REF CURSOR? Can you post some code snippets here?

  • Can't execute Oracle Stored Procedure using JDBC

    Hi all,
    I'm fairly new to JDBC and Oracle, so pardon my ignorance/lack of knowledge in this subject matter. I am trying to call a stored procedure named get_countries that has no parameters using JDBC. I do this by executing the following lines of code:
    CallableStatement cs = con.prepareCall("{call get_countries}");
    ResultSet rs = cs.executeQuery();But I get the following exception thrown:
    Exception in thread "main" java.sql.SQLException: ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'GET_COUNTRIES'
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:

    This makes no sense to me because there are no parameters that I need to pass. So I'm guessing this is something that I don't know about JDBC or about Oracle. I've searched Google for the past hour and a half and still haven't found anything that explains what might be the problem. I've also been following this guide ([http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/basics/sql.html]) and I'm doing it exactly the same way, but for some reason it works for them.
    Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks for your help in advance. I really appreciate it!

    I went to a few forums and asked the same question. The boys down at Oracle Community Forums shed some light on this subject and, with their help, I was able to figure it out. Here is the thread for those who want to read: [My Thread @ Oracle Community Forums|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=2721348?].
    THE SOLUTION
    cs = con.prepareCall("{ call get_countries(?) }");
    cs.registerOutParameter(1, OracleTypes.CURSOR);
    cs.execute();
    ResultSet rs = ((OracleCallableStatement) cs).getCursor(1);

  • Calling a Oracle stored procedure in orchestrator

    I am trying to execute a stored procedure using the query database IP in orchestrator.  I can select data from the oracle db so i know the prereqs are setup correctly but it fails on executing the stored procedure.
    The syntaxe is execute SPNAME('PARAM!','PARAM2')
    The error is
    Failed, Oracle failure Database error has occurred. ORA-00900: invalid SQL statement
    Oracle query failure, please verify your query syntax is correct.  Verify correct table names and column names etc...
    The SP works fine in sql developer so im pretty sure the syntax is correct unless the Query Database IP needs a different syntax to work.

    simple as that.  i actually tried something similar since that is how SCOM executes SP but left the execute command in there so it failed and i moved on.  thanks for the reply.
    Just for reference i went the powershell route and that worked as well but much more complicated then your solution.  for anyone that wants to know the script is
    $asm = [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("System.Data.OracleClient")
    $connectionString = "Data Source=TNSNAME;uid=USERID;pwd=PASSWORD";
    $inputString1 = "PARAMETER INPUT 1";
    $inputString2 = "PARAMETER INPUT 2"
    $oracleConnection = new-object System.Data.OracleClient.OracleConnection($connectionString);
    $cmd = new-object System.Data.OracleClient.OracleCommand;
    $cmd.Connection = $oracleConnection;
    $cmd.CommandText = "SP NAME";
    $cmd.CommandType = [System.Data.CommandType]::StoredProcedure;
    $cmd.Parameters.Add("NAME OF EXPECTED PARAMETER 1", [System.Data.OracleClient.OracleType]::NUMBER) | out-null;
    $cmd.Parameters["NAME OF EXPECTED PARAMETER 1"].Direction = [System.Data.ParameterDirection]::Input;

  • Executing an Oracle Stored Procedure from Sender JDBC adapter

    I could really use some help from someone who had done this before.
    I've read the help about using the JDBC sender adapter, but it's not helping enough.
    I found this line: "Specify an SQL EXECUTE statement to execute a stored procedure, which contains exactly one SELECT statement.
    The expression must correspond to the SQL variant supported by the relevant JDBC driver. It can also contain table JOINs."
    That's definately what we want to do, but we can't figure out the syntax.
    The procedure in oracle looks like this:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE test_ref_cursor
    ( cur_generic IN OUT result_sets.cur_generic)
    as
    BEGIN
    Open cur_generic for
    select
       proposal_number,
       to_char(sequence_number),
       column_name,
       column_value,
       update_timestamp,
       update_user
       from
       coeus.sap_test;
    END test_ref_cursor;
    And we have tried every kind of statement we can think of, but the file adapter always gives us an "invalid sql statement" error.
    Does anyone know what syntax we need to put in the "Query SQL Statement" in the JDBC sender adapter in order to call this procedure?  Or is there something wrong with the procedure that is causing the error?
    <i>I will absolutely return and give points, but PLEASE read my whole post before answering and do not just link me to or quote the help for configuring a sender JDBC adapter or blogs that are about the JDBC adapter in general but do not deal with the issues I am having. Thank you.</i>

    Hi Vanda,
    Unfortunately, the sender JDBC adapter does not support Oracle's store procedure/function.  Unlike stored procedures from other database vendors, Oracle returns a cursor, not a resultset.  The sender JDBC adapter must send a resultset to XI.
    There are 2 possible ways you can accomplish this:
    1.  Use BPM and call the Oracle stored procedure using a receiver adapter via a asynch-synch bridge.
    2.  Develop a user-module for the adapter, which can be used with a sender adapter.
    Thanks

  • Executing an oracle stored procedure in xMII 11.5

    Dear all,
          I am facing problem executing an oracle stored procedure using sql query in MII. The SP does not have any input or output parameters & consists of only 2 insert statements. I tried to use Command Mode, FixedQuery & FixedQuery With output mode, but the SP doesn't run.
    This is the error i get when i use :
    execute InsertTest or exec InsertTest -  A SQL Error has occurred on query, ORA-00900: invalid SQL statement
    I read in one of the posts to use 'CALL' instead of 'exec' or 'execute'. Even with this i get error which states:
    A SQL Error has occurred on query, ORA-06576: not a valid function or procedure name
    The syntax i used is CALL InsertTest  -  'InsertTest' is the SP name.
    I also checked Sam's comment in one of the posts about jdbc driver. We are using oracle 9i, so i guess there is no problem with the version of DB.
    The stored procedure is working fine in SQL Developer, How else can i invoke the SP in MII?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • How to invoke Oracle stored procedures in Web Intelligence Custom SQL ?

    Hi,
    Referring to some older posts, I see that there is a work around to invoke a stored procedure to return results for a Web Intelligence report. Its been posted for calling a MS SQL stored proc, whereas the mentioned method does not seem to work for an Oracle Stored Procedure.
    Steps I followed:
    a) This is the parameter I have added in the oracle.sbo file => <Parameter Name="Force SQLExecute">Procedures</Parameter>
    b) My stored procedure code is as follows:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE get_emp_details(var_first_name OUT VARCHAR) AS
    BEGIN
    SELECT first_name INTO var_first_name
    FROM EMP_DETAILS_VIEW
    WHERE EMPLOYEE_ID = 100;
    END;
    c) Custom SQL code I added in my Webi report:
    set nocount on;
    /* SELECT
    EMP_DETAILS_VIEW.FIRST_NAME
    FROM
    EMP_DETAILS_VIEW
    exec get_emp_details;
    On trying to validate the SQL it gives me the following error message: "The SQL query has 0 instead of 1 columns.(WIS 10810)"
    Has anyone been able to successfully call an Oracle Stored procedure using the above method ?
    Version of BO: XI R3 SP2
    Oracle version: 11gR2
    PS: I am aware that web intelligence since XI R3.1 does allow use of a dedicated Stored Procedure Universe. I would want to know if it could
    be made to run in a normal Universe(not a stored procedure Universe)
    Thanks for your time and inputs.
    Regards,
    Jez

    EXECUTE is a SQL Plus command. You can directly call SP in PL/SQL
    DECLARE
        modif number;
    BEGIN
    select data_length into modif from user_tab_columns where table_name='CONTROL' and column_name='POSITION';
    IF modif < 10 THEN
        droptable('CONTROL');
        execute immediate('CRETAE TABLE CONTROL ....';

  • Return String from Oracle stored proc using Excel 2003 VBA

    Hi to everyone,
    I've got a problem that remains unsolved for many days. I am trying to return a value of an oracle stored procedure using Excel VBA. It might seem trivial, however it's not for someone, who has never done it before...
    OS: Win XP SP3
    Excel 2003
    Ora Client: 11g
    By trying different things I have noticed, that I could have troubles with the ODBC-connection. Maybe I am not using the right one. To store data returned from select statements I have an ODBC-Connection (Driver: Oracle in XE), which works perfectly, e.g.:
    Sub Extract_Data()
    Dim cn As ADODB.Connection
    Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset
    Dim db_name, UserName, Password As String
    cn.Open db_name, USerName, Password
    sql_statement = "SELECT some_text FROM some_table"
    Set rs = cn.Execute(sql_statement)
    rs.MoveFirst 'jump to the first entry in the data list
    Row = 2
    While Not rs.EOF
    'save the data to a worksheet
    ip.Cells(Row, 2) = rs(0).Value
    Row = Row + 1
    rs.MoveNext
    Wend
    End Sub
    Now I need to execute a stored procedure to return a semi-colon delimited string.
    I have tried the following:
    Public Sub obj_class()
    Dim cn As New ADODB.Connection
    Dim strSQL, cn As String
    Dim adoCMD As ADODB.Command
    Dim adoRS As ADODB.Recordset
    Set wb = Excel.ActiveWorkbook
    Set ih = wb.Sheets("InfoSheet")
    cn.Open db_name, UserName, Password
    Set adoCMD = New ADODB.Command
    With adoCMD
    .ActiveConnection = cn
    .CommandText = "S#mdb$stg_da_extr_util.get_all_classes_of_classif"
    .CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
    .Parameters.Refresh
    '------ and here comes the error saying:
    '------ could not find the object in the collection corresponding to the name or ordinal reference requested by the application
    .Parameters("i_caller").Value = "'STG_DATA_REQUEST'"
    .Parameters("i_obj_classif_id").Value = 120
    Set adoRS = .Execute()
    End With
    End Sub
    I did asked on the forum:
    http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=1241667#post1241667
    but unfortunately without success.
    Could it be, that my ODBC-connection is wrong? When debugging the connection string, I find the Provider=MSDASQL5.1.
    I have moderate knowledge in VBA, but absolutely a newbie with Oracle DB. Is there any source of information that can help solving this issue? Looking forward to hearing from you, as I am almost giving up... ;(

    My VBA is super rusty. Does that error come after Parameters.Refresh, or after .Parameters("i_caller").Value = "'STG_DATA_REQUEST'"?
    If it's the second one, you'll need the definition of the stored procedure so you can see what parameters it's expecting. That'd mean you're getting something wrong with the names.
