Oracle support for opensource platforms

hello
will Oracle support DB server installations on eg. OpenSolaris or Centos?
if I'd like to buy an oracle license.

Its not supported... before going for buying license better to check with metalink support/oracle sales..

  • Oracle support for Weblogic 7 under LINUX

    Hi,
Does anyone know what happened to oracle support in weblogic 7.0 for linux platform,
as it seems that the drivers are not included? Are there any discussions on that
    topic anywhere?
    thanks.
    Zlatko

It DOES appear that there is support for WebLogic jDriver for Oracle on Linux:
    see http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/certifications/certifications/redhat_linux.html#39532
The strange thing here is that, apparently, the Oracle drivers located @ lib/linux/i686/oci817_8/libweblogicoci38.so
and lib/linux/i686/oci817_8/libweblogicoxa38.so are "Type 2" ODBC drivers which
require an Oracle client to be installed on the WebLogic machine, but Oracle doesn't
support installation of the client on RedHat 7.2, which is required (according
BEA's doc) for installation of WebLogic 7.0. Can someone reconcile this apparent
    conflict?

  • Oracle Support for Virtual Sever

Is it supported to run Oracle databases on Linux virtual servers without using OVM. I have a Linux server(RHEL) which has been virtualized to 3 hosts using strictly virt-install . If I have Oracle issues on those virtual servers will Oracle support this ( we do have support license for Oracle) eventhough we didn't use OVM to create and maintain the virtual hosts.

    Hi,
the policy should be the same as with VMWare or any other Virtualisation product on x86 (except Oracle VM and Solaris Containers). It is supported:
    https://supporthtml.oracle.com/ep/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=249212.1
But not certified (as with Oracle VM):

  • Bug: No support for the platform of my choice.

I am an ipod nano owner and an Ubuntu Linux user. I was disappointed to find out there is no itunes available for the platform of my choice.
Therefore I am forced to use floola-Linux in order to add music to my ipod, this also means I can't purchase from itunes store.
So, what can I as a customer do? I decided to make a formal complaint.

The requirements (Windows or Mac OS) are clearly stated on the box.

  • Java and Oracle support for Solaris 10?

    Hi
Does anybody know when Oracle plans to support Solaris 10?
We plan to purchase a Opteron server and would like to use Oracle.
We also plan to use Sun Java AppServer Platform Edition. Any idea when that will support Solaris 10?
Am I correct in assuming that Solaris x86 will run fine on an Opteron system.
    thanks in advance

Oracle support Solaris 10 x86 but I doubt it's native 64 bits. The App. server is supported just go to Sun's site. The short answer is that Oracle and the App. server should both work but not necessarily in 64 bit mode.
As for the Opteron system, you should check the HCL.

  • Oracle support for multiple languages

I have a VB and oracle application. There is a requirement for having spanish language support.
The current character set is US7ASCII and National Character set is AL16UTF16.
After some analysis i thought changing these character sets to UTF8 will be a solution for saving spanish characters.
Can any please help me whether this is correct?
    Thanks in advance

    That's true.
However since you are moving from single-byte character set to multi-bytes, you should be aware of the data truncation problem. that's the dangerous I was talking about.
    Data Truncation
When the database is created using byte semantics, the sizes of the CHAR and VARCHAR2 datatypes are specified in bytes, not characters. For example, the specification CHAR(20) in a table definition allows 20 bytes for storing character data. This is acceptable when the database character set uses a single-byte character encoding scheme because the number of characters is equivalent to the number of bytes. If the database character set uses a multibyte character encoding scheme, then the number of bytes no longer equals the number of characters because a character can consist of one or more bytes.
During migration to a new character set, it is important to verify the column widths of existing CHAR and VARCHAR2 columns because they might need to be extended to support an encoding that requires multibyte storage. Truncation of data can occur if conversion causes expansion of data.

  • Use of Oracle Designer for DB2 platforms

Hi! Is there sombody who can answer these questions?
I use Oracle Designer v 6.0.3 and I wonder if
the DB2 ddl scripts that Oracle Designer generates
can be use for IBM maifraims platform OS/390 ?
I also wonder if there is any other development tool that
    generates modify or alter scripts?

    Hi,
my Ora-Trigger-Solution works well on R/3 development system.
On quality assurance system it dumps with ORA-04098.
It looks like, that required object privileges have been never granted.
Do someone know, what priviliges or authorisations have to be maintained and where to maintain this?
    Thanks and regards,

  • TimesTen Cache Connect support for Oracle 11g

The latest 7.0.5 readme mentioned that "Oracle Release 11gR1 is supported with TimesTen Cache Connect to Oracle on Linux x86 32-bit and 64-bit platforms, and on Windows 32-bit."
What about Solaris 10? It looks like on Solaris 10 only Oracle 10gR2 being supported. What is so specific about Oracle 11?
    Thank you,
    Alex

TimesTen 7.0.5 can be used to cache data from different versions of Oracle database.
The reason why the support for Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX were not at the same time as the Linux platform was because Oracle database 11g was not available on those platforms initially. So TimesTen 7.0.5 was certified to support only the ones available first, and support for other platforms was added as 11g became available on those platforms. It was just timing of the certification, code base is the same.

  • 11.1.2 support for Mac OS?

The 11.1.2 certification matrix for JDev can be found here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/jdev11gr2-cert-405181.html
Under the operating system category for the Mac OS the supported version is "Apple Mac OS X 10.6-". Note the dash at the end.
The 11.1.2 installation guide can be found here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E16162_01/install.1112/e17074/ojdig.htm#BDCFFEJC
Under section 1 for the Mac OS it says the supported version is "For Apple Mac OS X Version 10.6 or later".
    Questions:
    a) Which one is right?
    b) If the certification matrix is correct, what's the dash at the end mean? Versions prior to 10.6? Does that rule out 10.6.8?
    c) If the installation guide is correct, is Lion supported?
    Thanks,
    CM.

Ah the footnote explains it. When I copied the text across to post in this forum, the dash turned into a space, and I typed it back in to be consistent, but I didn't understand why I needed to do this. Now I think in the 11.1.2 certification matrix the dash is in fact the left over underscore for the superscript footnote from the previous notes, probably just copied and pasted in by accident.
With regards to 10.7, in seeking clarification on the support can you also determine if 10.7 Lion support is planned please, and what Oracle's future JDev support for this platform are. It'll matter to a number of us ACEDs are we're running JDev on MacBook Pros. Obviously we can go with VMs, but the preferred platform is native on Mac OS.
    Thanks for your assistance,
    CM.

  • Support for SLES, Debian and CentOS

I'm planning to install Zenworks Endpoint Security Management and I would like to know if it would release a support for linux platform especially Debian and CentOS. We have a heterogenous network environment and there are servers that are running Debian and CentOS. Is it possible for ZESM to release a support for these operating systems? Also, would there be a release where ZESM could be installed in SLES?

Take a look at the new ZCM11 - currently in Beta1 - for SLES & Red Hat support and broader support DBs - Oracle and Sybase included.
    http://www.novell.com/communities/no...agement-beta-1
Most of ZESM functionality is built into this new architecture. You'll also get integrated Linux Management on this build.
