Oracle support of mixed environment

Does anyone know (or where to find out) if Oracle officially supports a mixed environment? We are running Oracle database on Linux and the EBS Apps tier on Microsoft Windows.

  • Remote desktop connection limit in windows 2003 administration as well as in the mixed environment of windows 2003 and 2008 servers

RDP protocol i.e. Remote desktop connection is configured to perfrom and manage  software administration of ORACLE application and database servers which runs on windows 2003 server.   Two sessions are allowed on each of these servers for database
    administrators. The question is:
    a) if network administrators who perform window server administration (50+) are included in
2 sessions limit or do they manage all these servers through Console Session which is separate from the remote desktop connection limits of 2 sessions.
    b) How is the 2 sessions  limit prescribed by microsoft (more of a licensing limit) handled in the mix environment of windows 2003 and 2008 server where all these servers are managed on the VMWARE?
    avnish sharma

    Hi Avnish,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
By default any windows server will provide 2 remote session for administration purpose only. No matter which administrator is accessing that server. If you will connect the console session then 3.One server is accessed by 3 Session (console + Remote +
Remote). When the particular server reached this limit then any working administrator will receive a message to log out as other user trying to access the session or if we had provided the setting then new user is restricted to login.
If you want more than 2 remote desktop session than you need to purchase TS\RDS CAL, install TS\RD Licensing role, activate it first and then configure CAL on it. There are 2 types of CAL available (USER & DEVICE). You can purchase CAL according to your
    company requirements.
    Hope it helps to understand!
    Thanks.

  • Oracle support & VMware

We've a customer that wants to run Oracle DB and Oracle WebLogic server that are virtualized using VMware.
The customer is under the impression that Oracle support terms don't allow this.
Based on a web search I just did this doesn't seem correct.
What is Oracle's current support policy for these products on VMware? Are Oracle DB and Oracle WL server supported on VMware?
Can you refer to an official policy document?
    marko

You could read the following MOS note :
Support Position for Oracle Products Running on VMWare Virtualized Environments ID 249212.1+
Briefly, none of the Oracle products are currently supported on VMWare. If you have an issue, you first may have to reproduce it in a non-VMWare environment (in a supported env.) before raising a SR.

  • Does Oracle support downlaods?

An Oracle Support Analyst recently told me that downloads from
TechNet are not officially supported by Oracle, after I had
created a TAR for a 9i database problem which had been installed
from such a download. Unless I reinstalled from CDs they were
unwilling to progress the TAR, unless I could come up with a
fully reproducable test case which would have been difficult as
it was an intermittent problem. The question is where on OTN
does it say that downloads are unsupported and does this include
the patches on Metalink? Are Oracle effectively saying that we
shouldn't be downloading software. The problem with ordering
CD's is that they only seem to be available weeks/months after
the download is first made available and patches often need to
    be installed in a hurry.

    Let me try that again...

    Open Source
"Open Source" software -- software available without charge for
use, modification and distribution -- is often licensed under
terms that require the user to make the user's modifications to
the Open Source software or any software that the
user 'combines' with the Open Source software freely available
in source code form. If you use Open Source software in
conjunction with the programs, you must ensure that your use
does not: (i) create, or purport to create, obligations of us
with respect to the Oracle programs; or (ii) grant, or purport
to grant, to any third party any rights to or immunities under
our intellectual property or proprietary rights in the Oracle
programs. For example, you may not develop a software program
using an Oracle program and an Open Source program where such
use results in a program file(s) that contains code from both
the Oracle program and the Open Source program (including
without limitation libraries) if the Open Source program is
licensed under a license that requires any "modifications" be
made freely available. You also may not combine the Oracle
program with programs licensed under the GNU General Public
License ("GPL") in any manner that could cause, or could be
interpreted or asserted to cause, the Oracle program or any
modifications thereto to become subject to the terms of the GPL.
    Entire Agreement
You agree that this agreement is the complete agreement for the
programs and licenses, and this agreement supersedes all prior
or contemporaneous agreements or representations. If any term of
this agreement is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the
    remaining provisions will remain effective.

  • Does Oracle Support Running Oracle 10 Database on VMware ?

    hi experts,
I have 10g Enterprise on a Windows 64-bit Enterprise platform.
I know this is a recurring question - whether or not Oracle really supports customers that run Oracle databases in a VMWare environment.
I found a document on My Oracle Support/metalink that is dated 2007. It says VMWare is not supported.
But I think the situation may have changed since 2007.
So can anyone point me to a document that shows whether Oracle does/does not support running Oracle databases on VMware - not Oracle's VMware product but VMWare, inc. ?
Thanks for any current information. John

    Hans Forbrich wrote:
    1) Oracle has their own virtualization solution;

    3) Oracle will provide you with support as long as you can reproduce the problem in a non-VM environment.
That last means - it is up to you to prove that the problem is not related to VMWare environment.I have never seen any scenario where Oracle demands you to prove that the problem is not related to VMware.
If its their suggested solution does not work, and they think i should, they want you to migrate it to a physical machine and test there, however this has never happend, at least not for us. We have around 100 databases in VMware, and the common talk (even from Oracle people that visits us) is that the document is only there IF THERE BY SOME CHANCE IN THE WORLD WOULD COME TO A PROBLEM FOR A COMPANY, WHERE VMWARE IS THE PROBLEM, AND ORACLE CANT HELP, they have to have a get-out clause in terms of support against VMware.

  • Does OWF Support a Cluster environment?????

I have a Cluster environment. I have an IP for Node 1 (xxx.xxx.xxx.001), another IP for Node2 (xxx.xxx.xxx.002), another IP for the Cluster (xxx.xxx.xxx.003) and another IP for the Database (xxx.xxx.xxx.004)

Does OWF Support a Cluster environment?????
What do I have to configure if I want High availability for Oracle Workflow????

    Hi,
Every servernode runs in its own java process.
Every java process has its own heap where it works in, with normal use its not possible to share memory between servernodes so also not caches that are stored in memory.
The only components that are shared in a Java "cluster" are the SCS instance that contains the Message and Enqueue Server, the DB, and the shared file system /sapmnt.
Try investigating JNI... search for "Java JNI Shared Memory"... this will need custom development and seems to be very low level and complex... If it was easy I guess SAP might had implemented in there WAS Java I gues.

  • Advice on Oracle Patches/Oracle Support

I'd like some advice here... I am of the opinion to NEVER apply an Oracle patch without getting direction to do so from Oracle Support to correct an existing issue. I have some colleagues who believe we should apply certain patches based on success they have had in other environments and do so without involving Oracle Support.
Can someone please offer some guidance here on what might be the best practice?
    Thanks

Personally, it would depend on the "we" you're referring to and on the environment...
If you're an application vendor that knows that your product hits a particular bug relatively frequently or you've got home-grown apps that hit multiple databases in your organization that all hit a particular bug relatively frequently because of known similarities in architecture/ design/ implementation, I'd have no problems applying a patchset to all the systems. If you find that it's easier to maintain a bunch of different databases if they all run identical patchsets, I could also see that argument as potentially having some merit.
On the other hand, if you're talking to someone that wants to apply a patch because it solved a problem at some other site that may or may not resemble your site, I'd probably steer clear.

  • Is vmware supported for production environment ?

    Hi All,
Is vmware supported for production environment ?
    Thanks
    Sunny

    All,
I'm glad someone has outlined the clear support statement that has existed for sometime between VMware - SAP.  For those of you still running on Oracle, here is some good news:
Wording towards SAP Customers requesting support:
"Oracle, VMware and SAP are working collaboratively to ensure support for SAP customers that use VMware virtualization for SAP solutions running Oracle DB. Functional tests are currently being performed to verify supportability of the SAP&Oracle stack.  Details will be made available in SAP note 1173954 u201CSupport of Oracle for VMwareu201D after tests have been completed. It is expected that in Q1 2010, ESX 3.5 and later releases including vSphere 4 will be supported by Oracle and SAP according to Oracleu2019s metalink note 249212."
There is no reason why x86 platform today cannot run the most demanding workloads on VMware vSphere in a production environment.  But has noted earlier, don't get hung up on "production" - you have heaps of TestDev, SolMan TestDev, sandboxes, gateways, application servers etc that should immediately by put into a VM - once you are comfortable with your solution in-house, I'm sure you will move production instances into a VM as well.

  • Running Portlets in a Mixed Environment

We are running Oracle9iAS Portal on an HP Unix box. We have noticed that many of the third party portlets like Business Objects, and SiteScape are only supported on NT and Sun Solaris, and some on Linux and Compaq Tru64 Unix. Although they are not explicitly supported on HP-UX, would they still operate on HP-UX?
Alternatively, is it feasible to run these portlets in a mixed environment of NT and HP Unix? If the portlets are only supported on NT, then we would need a seperate instance of Portal on an NT box to support those portlets. Would we have to run two versions and instances of the 9iAS Application Server, and if so, would we have to run seperate instances of the Portal schema also?
    so,
    1) Is it feasible to run two instances of Portal and perhaps have the information on the two different servers (NT and HP-UX) be synchronized?
    2) Or would it be possible to share the HP-UX Portal schema between the 9i Application Servers on both NT and HP-UX?

    Henry,
Thank you for the thought. The windows machines are connected by wire to the LAN. At the moment, we are only supporting wireless for apple products.
I have spent a significant amount of time on this issue since the original post, and have concluded that my original plan is untenable. For this to work the way I had hoped it seems I would have to establish a central DHCP server and not use the "Distribute IP Addresses" capability of the AEBS. The subsequent question is, will wireless apple computers pick up a DHCP IP address in this setup?
    Thanks again.

Your developers should know whether this parameter should have an effect on your system or not, please try to reproduce the pro
blem on a test environment first and try to see if the parameter should stop and
whether it will affect anything else.
Oracle 10g release 10.2 Introduces a new feature called Hash Group by aggregation which allows a hash algorithm to proce
ss group by statements. This functionality can be disabled using the following d
    ynamic database parameter:
    SQL> alter session set "_gby_hash_aggregation_enabled" = FALSE;

    Hello REMOVED,
"Your developers should know whether this parameter should have an effect on your system or not, please try to reproduce the problem on a test environment first and try to see if the parameter should stop and whether it will affect anything else."
Quite frankly I'm shocked. The developers here didn't develop the code for the Oracle Server. The bug, as you said, is an Oracle bug, how would developers who develop a product that uses Oracle know if a bug fix sanctioned by Oracle - a hidden parameter for an unpulished bug - impacts their product?
Please ensure that this SR is dealt with by one of your seniors.
I shall be posting the details of the SR on OTN.
Was I being harsh? Should the developers of a product that uses the Oracle Server know about the impact of a hidden parameter?
Would love to hear your opinions.

Your developers should know whether this parameter should have an effect on your system or notYes they will know the side effects had they been working with Oracle as developers for last 10 years or so and have now joined your company recently (and then developed the entire application in matter of days to hit the bug).
And I don't think you are being harsh here.

  • Smart update / My Oracle Support authentication &  MD2withRSA is disabled

    Greetings,
We just installed OEM 11g R1 which uses WebLogic 10.3.2.0 using jdk1.6.0_20. We did an all in one install, i.e. 11g DB, WebLogic and OEM 11g R1 on the same OEL 5U5 x86-64 machine and OEM 11g R1 is up and running. The environment is not stable and I was informed that WebLogic must be update with patch WDJ7 using the smart update program, i.e. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/doc.1111/e14143/quickrefax.htm.
When we try to authenticate to My Oracle Support with the smart update GUI we receive an error message "Unable to verify your status" and in the logs we see
    "javax.xml.rpc.ServiceException: Error processing WSDL document:
javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path validation failed: java.security.cert.CertPathValidatorException: algorithm check failed: MD2withRSA is disabled"
We found a similar post smart update not connecting to my oracle support that said an uninstall and reinstalled of WebLogic with a different JDK solved the smart update / My Oracle Support error.

Could you please help us with a solution to patch WebLogic 10.3.2.0 using the smart update program with ? I'm not sure if uninstalling WebLogic and reinstalling WebLogic with a different JDK will break our OEM installation. Suggestions?
Thank you in advance for your support!
    Respectfully,

    Hi,
Do u hav a supporting license, If so there is a back door solution for this. Contact the oracle support and the them for patch "WDJ7". Copy the path of this .jar in your commonenv.sh file under +"WEBLOGIC_CLASSPATH"+.
Restart the server and the patches would be installed.
    regards,
    Zeno
