Why oracle taking too much memory?
Any solution for this bec of that my updation takes too much time .
Edited by: harshalpatil on Oct 13, 2008 4:11 PM
Harsh,
1) What version of Oracle you running on 7.5 release of linux?
2)How did you come to the conclusion that because of this, your update is slow?
Cheers

Agent taking too much memory...
Hello all,
i am on hp-ux itanium. I have OMS(11.1) and agent running on this box. And for some reason the oracle process is taking too much memory. From the glance cmd at OS level, we get the below...Why is java taking some much memory...the only thing running on this box is OMS, agent, the repository DB and one other DB. This machine is 16gb of memory. Any idea where i can start digging to figure out why so much memory is being taken by java and emagent process ??? is that normal ?

Skype keeps crashing after taking too much memory
Hello,
So my version of skype client is 7.3.0.101 and it doesn't stop crashing since a few months now.
Here's precisely what happens : I launch it, it's pretty slow since the problem the problem appeared but something like 30 after it crashes. We can see in the task manager that skype progressively takes way too much memory, most of the time it starts at 150 Mo and quickly reaches 1200-1400 Mo before crashing.
I noticed that skype took less memory by running it in compatibility mode for windows XP service pack 3, it stays stuck at 200 Mo, but my whole computer looks slower.
I tried everything but nothing worked, I uninstalled and reinstalled it, I added or modified keys in my registry, added skype to exceptions in my fire-walls, tried to install an older version (which didn't work because of auto update)... I don't know what to do now, that's why I come here to ask for help
Also one more thing : It exessively takes my processor power (arround 14% all the time), and my processor is an i7-4770.
Thanks a lot if you decide to help me !Have you tried these?

Oracle Consuming too much memory.
Hi All,
We are having Oracle with only single instance running on the machine which has 8GB RAM. And we just have only Oracle running on this machine.
OS - RHEL4
Oracle : 10.2.0.1
Out of this 8GB RAM 7.5GB has been utilized.. Can somebody please help me to find out which processes are using this much memory..
PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET = 512MB
SGA_TARGET = 2G
SGA_MAX_SIZE = 2G
Since we have allocated only 2GB as our SGA still oracle is utilizing upto 7.5GB memory.. what might be the reason behind this.
Any help would be great.

Safari 6 taking too much memory
Compared to Firefox, Camino and Chrome Safari demands too much of my memory. Slows the computer down.
Is there a solution? There isn't much you can, or should, do about it. Safari caches everything in case you go back to a page or image. The operating system also manages the virtual memory and will take what it needs. If you are experiencing any undesireable side effects, they are likely due more to the antivirus than the memory.
But look at the bright side - you won't be accidentally e-mailing viruses to any Windows users -
[SOLVED]nm-applet taking too much memory (sometimes all the processes)
Hello,
One of the reason i chose Archlinux (archbang) was to keep the system small to fit in my little 512MB of ram and i've been happy so far but for some reason i noticed that nm-applet is now taking a *lot* of memory, around 40mb while it didn't use that much.
Here is my ps_mem after a fresh boot:

I could live with an applet taking 40mb on a more beefy machine but being just behind chrome looks wrong. So i'm not sure what has changed, at the moment i just kill the process but i considered switching to wicd if it's ever better but it appears that it's not well maintained.
Any hint?

I needed to use my computer and it wasn't usable so i just reinstalled my distro and went back to normal, while tweaking the OS i made various reboots to check if it happened again and how...
And the problem of my system taking 240ish MB at boot vs 75MB is actually the nvidia drivers, after installing nvidia-304xx the memory went up a lot, but removing the driver and switching back to nouveau actually make the system way less greedy memory-wise, there is still a bit of mystery in one of the case where everything was fine but nm-applet but i think it's half solved here.
PS : I gave shot at zswap but it made my computer unusable and freeze a lot -
Hello there,
I've noticed lately that Safari (red) has three processes that take most of my memory, along with the horrible McAffe Anti-virus (blue) that my job requires... is this normal? Is there any way to reduce this?
thanks. Activity Monitor attached. There isn't much you can, or should, do about it. Safari caches everything in case you go back to a page or image. Right after getting yosemite on my Macbook Pro with 16GB memory and SSD HDD. I find that after working for 30 minutes or so that the machine gets really slow, even switching between screens gets kinda of sluggish!!!
So i looked into the Activity Monitor and to my surprise i find that Finder is taking more than 4GB of memory just by itself and high percentage of CPU.
If i quit it, the machine goes back to being normal, but then Finder will restart, and again after 30 minutes or so, it does the same thing over and over.
I am sure that it's some kind of a bug, but i don't know where to start to solve this problem!!!
This never happened on previous OSXs.
If anyone have a hint it will be appreciated.
Thanks,Problem description:
Finder keeps taking up too much memory thus slowing down the machine to it’s knees.

Karnel task taking too much Real Memory & Battery not lasting long.
Hello,
I've noticed under my Activity Monitor that Karnel_Task is taking too much "real memory".
Also, I just bought a new battery because the original that came with my computer was dying too fast.
Well, this new one lasts just a little longer. I believe that is something else that is eating up the battery.
I have a Macbook Pro 13' early 2011.
4 GB at the Moment.
Running Mountain Lion.
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
Serial Number C17F4LJHDH2G
Software OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
Here is my Etre Check as well. I need help figuring out what is wrong with my laptop and what to do to fix it please.

Import taking too much time in oracle 7i
Hi Guys
I am trying to import a table of around 9600000 rows. on oracle 7i it is taking too much time. any suggestion or way i can speedup the process?
Thanks in advance
KhuranaOk.
Note that it is "_disable_logging" not "disable_logging", but I don't have an Oracle 7 database to confirm if it works.
Been a long time since I used Oracle 7. Any reason why you have not upgraded ? Import should be much faster with 11g ...
For further tuning you would need to look at OS and DB performance to find bottlenecks. E.g run bstat / estat.
Other things to look at are disk performance, increase db_block_buffers, increase db_writer etc. -
Oracle Instances Processes consuming too much memory
Will somebody be able to guide me with the factors that are causing too much memory consumption when a single Oracle.exe instance is started ? Due to this problem it is not possible to run 2 instances at the same time.
Oracle is running on Windows NT 4.0 SP6.
Oracle version 8.1.6.0.0
Currently we have 512MBytes of ram.(4.83G free space)
One of the Instance consumes as much as 178,320K of Ram,
another consumes about 138,000KOracle consumes as much memory as you want, but more memory is faster.
Review your init.ora (db_block_buffer y shared_pool_size)
(It4s posible to run 10 instances in a machine with just 1 Gigabyte and they work fine. It depends on the use of the databases, the number of users, just for production or development, etc, ...). -
Oracle take up too much memory in windows xp
hi all,
i'm having a problem with my laptop. i've oracle database 11g installed in my laptop. but then my laptop slow down.
the oracle process take too much memory. my physical memory(RAM) is 3GB.
is there any way to reduce the memory usage of the oracle process?
thanks,
akuhi mr. varad,
thanks for your quick reply. this is the memory allocated for oracle.

OIM 11g using too much memory and not releasing it when shutting down
Hello,
we have a problem with OIM 11g using too much memory (about 5gb) and it's not releasing it at shutdown (4gb still used).
We are using a VM with RedHat Linux 5.6. Originally we had 4gb RAM + 2gb swap file. We installed Admin Server, OAM, OIM and SOA on that machine but quickly realised we couldn't run all 4 programs at once in 6gb. AdminServer could run with 2 other products, but it was a tight fit in memory.
So we increased the RAM to 8gb (still 2gb swap file). But then our problem occured : I start the Admin Server (2.7gb total memory used), then OAM (4.6gb total memory used) and then OIM. After it started the server is now using 9.6gb of memory (~300mb of free memory) ! The problem gets even better : after I shut down everything (OIM, OAM, admin server) the "top" command show that there is still 4gb of memory used even tho nothing else is running on the server ! There is absolutely no other process (other than root stuff) running and no other users connected to the machine. After a reboot, it shows 400mb of memory used. I tried restarting the programs and it did the same thing.
Our intuition is that there might be a memory leak or some bug in OIM that might use up almost all the free memory and it's not releasing it upon shutdown. It might have been there before we increased the memory but have not noticed it since memory was already tight.
Anyone encountered the same problem ? Any idea ? Any suggestion to narrow down the problem ?
Thank youYou can adjust the memory settings for WLS by editing the setSOADomainEnv.sh file that can be found in your /middleware/user_projects/domains/<domain>/bin/ folder. There is an argument called PORT_MEM_ARGS which is used to set your Java memory arguments. This way you can decrease/increase the amount of memory used by each managed server.
I usually type "ps -ef | grep oracle" to see what processes are running by the oracle user. This way the output doesn't get cluttered with root processes.

Why is query taking too much time ?
Hi gurus,
I have a table name test which has 100000 records in it,now the question i like to ask is.
when i query select * from test ; no proble with responce time, but when the next day i fire the above query it is taking too much of time say 3 times.i would also like to tell you that everything is ok in respect of tuning, the db is properly tuned, network is tuned properly. what could be the hurting factor here ??
take care

Taking too much time to load application
Hi,
I have deployed a j2ee application on oracle 10g version 10.1.2.0.2. But the application is taking too much time to load. After loading ,everything works fast.
I have another 10g server (same version) in which the same application is loading very fast.
When I checked the apache error logs found this :-

A.1.6 Connection Timeouts Through a Stateful Firewall Affect System Performance
Problem
To improve performance the mod_oc4j component in each Oracle HTTP Server process maintains open TCP connections to the AJP port within each OC4J instance it sends requests to.
In situations where a firewall exists between OHS and OC4J, packages sent via AJP are rejected if the connections can be idle for periods in excess of the inactivity timeout of stateful firewalls.
However, the AJP socket is not closed; as long as the socket remains open, the worker thread is tied to it and is never returned to the thread pool. OC4J will continue to create more threads, and will eventually exhaust system resources.
Solution
The OHS TCP connection must be kept "alive" to avoid firewall timeout issues. This can be accomplished using a combination of OC4J configuration parameters and Apache runtime properties.
Set the following parameters in the httpd.conf or mod_oc4j.conf configuration files. Note that the value of Oc4jConnTimeout sets the length of inactivity, in seconds, before the session is considered inactive.
Oc4jUserKeepalive on
Oc4jConnTimeout 12000 (or a similar value)
Also set the following AJP property at OC4J startup to enable OC4J to close AJP sockets in the event that a connection between OHS and OC4J is dropped due to a firewall timeout:
ajp.keepalive=true
For example:
java -Dajp.keepalive=true -jar oc4j.jar
Please tell me where or which file i should put the option
java -Dajp.keepalive=true -jar oc4j.jar ??????/
