Oracle to xml question
hi friends
i have a oracle table for country,city,town.
this table is like a tree
and it has 5000+ rows and has relation with some other tables
this datas fill into dropdown(combobox)if user select county from combobox1 ,combobox2 fill with this country's city and go on like this........
if i try convert table's datas to xml file and do querry from xml file instead of oracle table
do fill comboboxes work faster? or is it bad idea?
Well since I don't have a clue how you access the XML files generated and don't know how you access the tables in Oracle I can't tell you anything about performance with that level of detailed information. Still your approach sounds strange to me.
But what I can tell you is that I have doubts if you're understanding the implications of your current approach: If you're going to write to files in triggers then you might end up with files that are not consistent with the database content.
What will happen if the transaction that modifies the table is going to be rolled back (for whatever reason, you're not in control of all possible eventualities)?
Then you've written content to your file that doesn't reflect your database properly.
Also note that DML operations in Oracle under certain circumstances perform a so called "restart", which means that triggers might fire several times for each row.
A possible workaround for these issues is performing your non-transactional operation (send a mail, write to a file etc.) in job that is submitted in the trigger, because the job submit procedure is transactional and therefore is rolled back if a rollback occurs and therefore the job is never going to be executed in that case.
You can find more information about that issue e.g. by Tom Kyte here:

Getting oracle.j2ee.xml.XMLMessages error while running project in 11g
when I run a project in JDeveloper 11g for the first time i.,e when it starts the embedded oc4j server, I get "oracle.j2ee.xml.XMLMessages warningException
WARNING: Exception Encountered" error. I am using TP4. is this a severe error or something we can ignore?

Hello,
I have read the Oracle XML SQL Utility documentation and also
the answer of Oracle team to Johnson Scott and as far as I
understand, the XML that is produced from the database and
loaded in it must verify a given DTD syntax.
Is this DTD available somewhere ?
What I have understood about XML Data of w3c is that it gives a
way to describe the content of a database.
What is Oracle position on that subject ?
I do ask this question because we have at present an SGML file,
with its own DTD that contains data we have to
insert/delete/update in an Oracle Database.
We are thinking of converting this SGML file in an XML file,
with tools like OMNIMARK or BALISE, that could be easily
integrated in the Oracle Database.
We are looking for the best solution to our problem and think
that Oracle tools like Oracle XML SQL, parserand Class generator
could be really usefull.
What do you think of this problem and of the solution we imagine
Thanks for your help,
Best regards,
C line.
nullHello,
I am actually studying the tools that Oracle offers to treat XML
data.
When reading the description of your products I can see two
solutions to my problem.
I remind it to you :
I have an SGML file with its own DTD that contains data we have
to insert/delete/update in an Oracle Database.
I can imagine two solutions :
1- one with Oracle IFs XML support :
To use this one I have to convert my SGML DTD in an XML one
(they should be very similar) and then write a program that
would convert my SGML file in an XML one.
Then create an Oracle iFS document descriptor that indicates how
each part of my file should be stored in my Oracle database.
2- an other one with Oracle XML SQL utility :
To use this one I have to convert my SGML file in an XML file
that is well-formed (i.e. that Oracle XMLSQL utility can
understand).
This convertion is much more difficult to do than the one I have
described above.
Are those two solutions correct ?
If yes, which one is the best in your opinion ?
Could you use XML Data with Oracle XML SQL utility ?
Is the DTD you have defined for this tool compiliant with XML
Data ?
If not why ?
I have not the tool from which I can get it but I would be
interested by the description of this DTD which is the best way
to see what I can do with this tool (and imagine a solution for
update if it cannot be easily done).
I would also be very interested in having the description of DTD
for Oracle iFS document descriptor files (as far I have
understood they are XML files) or an example of quite a complex
one so that I can I an idea of how it cold fit to my problem.
I have been really impressed by Oracle team very fast answer and
thank you very much for your help.
Regards,
C line.

Hello,
when I have a question about XML, where do I ask?
XML DB issues related to XML DB
XML space for the following subspaces
General XML Discussion of the general XML language, standards (XSLT, XQuery, XMLSchema, etc.) and application management issues, suggestions and tips.
PL/SQL XML Programming PL/SQL programming using XDK and related management issues inside Oracle database server. Any question for XML DB functionality, please post your question in Products -> Database-> XML DB.
XQuery Discussion of Oracle XQuery Technology Preview, W3C XQuery specifications, and JSR 225: XQuery API for Java (XQJ) issues
I think I now have an idea (not that I'm sure about it) where my question will fit best. Now, because there is an explanation of the scope of the space, I don't remember something like this in the old forum. Nevertheless it might be confusing for a new member or one that lacks a certain knowledge about the subtleties:
One step forward everyone who understands the explanation for the PL/SQL XML Programming space!
When I have a question about XQuery, how can I decide whether XQuery is correct or General XML?
Which questions qualify for XML DB and not for any of the others.
We all know that many users are not able to see that SQL questions don't belong into the SQL Developer space, how can we expect that they will find the "correct" forum for XML questions? In the end they will end up in the SQL and PL/SQL space anyhow :-)
Regards
MarcusMy $0.02.
As I recall, the explanation for each forum was at the entry level for each forum and not displayed within the forum itself.
The PL/SQL XML Programming space refers to the Oracle XML Developer Kit. It is maintained by a different team than the XMLDB so the need for a separate space for it makes sense. That said, what it covers is also part General XML and XQuery if you dig into what you can do in the XDK.
Some questions that would qualify for the XML DB space.
Anything related to schema registration or downstream of schema registration. Such as querying/performance/indexes/etc.
Issues parsing XML via using XMLTable (or XQuery, such as the new XQuery update added in 11.2.0.3) (Yes that can conflict)
Storage of data in XMLType columns
I to have always been a bit unclear on the exact division between groups in this XML space. I see the XQuery space as being a subset of the General XML space. I watch all three forums, as they are normally low volume and you never know where a question will pop up. As you have seen, questions often end up in the wrong forum and often General XML gets an influx of questions that should go into the Business Intelligence space as well. There is no good way right now to start a generic post and let the system suggest forums that the post could go into, based on content or software involved. That would be a nice touch for the future. -
i want to know the coding to link oracle with xml.tq.
You're going to need to expand a little on this question, since I'm not quite sure what you mean by "link". What kind of problem are you trying to solve, so we can help... Thanks.
If you're just starting out with Oracle and XML, a book like Building Oracle XML Applications or the Oracle XML Handbook might be the right place to start, in addition to our own online documentation at http://download.oracle.com/otndoc/oracle9i/901_doc/index.htm -

I did post in the JDeveloper forum and John Stegeman re-directed me to the "JDeveloper and OC4J 11g Technology Preview" forum.
I was leaning more toward an operating system issue since 11g TP4 works just fine on my Windows XP SP2 desktop. It is just so slow on it (504 MB of RAM) that I decided to run it on my laptop (3062 MB of Ram) where the performance is awesome, but I can't test a damn thing since I can't get the embedded server to work/start. Just hoping others have solved this issue and can pass that knowledge on to others.

How did you resolve this issue? I am also facing the same issue.

Bhaskar -
I have an ADF BC/Faces application with 2 model projects, each having their own app module so I can connect to 2 different schemas for different pages. I am seeing multiple data controls appear in the DC palette - why? In DataBindings.cpx there are only 2 data controls.
For example, I just added a new view to one AM. It appeared in the DC palette under a new DataControl (AppModuleDataControl3) instead of in the existing DataControl for that AM. When I dragged from the view to the page, I got "could not complete findOrCreateDataControlInApplication because it would result in an invalid document." The full error is below.
The only unusual thing I can think of is that I am using AM configurations with JDBC DataSource for the connection type. My Jdev version is 10.1.3.3.

In the application where I maintain the BC library, I created app modules so I could verify the model before using it in other applications.
From looking at the .jpx files for my models it appears that these app modules
were imported as part of the library. So I removed the app modules and corrected my .jpx files.
I'd suggest a note be added to the section about reusable BC libraries to make sure that any test app modules are excluded when jar files are generated. -

I'm not aware of any dump which covers all (administration, technical and functional ) of them so you need to Google as per the module for functional

Oracle's XML Publisher in JDeveloper and XSQL Servlet
A While ago, in this thread JDeveloper 10g, XSQL and FOP , was mentioned an ongoing effort for the "integration of Oracle's XML Publisher in JDeveloper and XSQL Servlet", Is this still happening ?, will this be something will be able to use without having to be an Oracle Apps shop? Any additional info would be appreciated.
Hi,
is there any progress about XML publisher integration with JDeveloper. I'm right now examining XML publisher but there is no explicit directions and explanations of using XML publisher with jdeveloper.
any news !?
best regards...

How to tune the performance of Oracle SQL/XML query?
Hi all,
I am running Oracle 9i and like to run the following Oracle SQL/XML query. It takes about 3+ hour and still not finish. If I get rid all the XML stuffs it only take minutes to run. Does anybody know how to what's the reason of this slow and how to tune it?
SELECT XMLElement("CUSTOMER",
XMLForest(C_CUSTKEY "C_CUSTKEY", C_NAME "C_NAME", C_ADDRESS "C_ADDRESS", C_PHONE "C_PHONE", C_MKTSEGMENT "C_MKTSEGMENT", C_COMMENT "C_COMMENT"),
(SELECT XMLAgg(XMLElement("ORDERS",
XMLForest(O_ORDERKEY "O_ORDERKEY", O_CUSTKEY "O_CUSTKEY", O_ORDERSTATUS "O_ORDERSTATUS", O_ORDERPRIORITY "O_ORDERPRIORITY", O_CLERK "O_CLERK", O_COMMENT "O_COMMENT"),
(SELECT XMLAgg(XMLElement("LINEITEM",
XMLForest(L_ORDERKEY "L_ORDERKEY", L_RETURNFLAG "L_RETURNFLAG", L_LINESTATUS "L_LINESTATUS", L_SHIPINSTRUCT "L_SHIPINSTRUCT", L_SHIPMODE "L_SHIPMODE", L_COMMENT "L_COMMENT")
FROM LINEITEM
WHERE LINEITEM.L_ORDERKEY = ORDERS.O_ORDERKEY)
FROM ORDERS
WHERE ORDERS.O_CUSTKEY = CUSTOMER.C_CUSTKEY)
FROM CUSTOMER ;
Thanks very much in advance for your time,

Why not something more like
SELECT *
FROM fact1 l,
FULL OUTER JOIN fact1 d
ON l.company = d.company
AND l.transactiontypeid = 1
AND d.transactiontypeid = 2;
Because this is not an equivalent of the original query.
drop table t1 cascade constraints purge;
drop table t2 cascade constraints purge;
create table t1 as select rownum t1_id from dual connect by level <= 5;
create table t2 as select rownum+2 t2_id from dual connect by level <= 5;
select * from (select * from t1 where t1_id > 2) t1 full outer join t2 on (t1_id = t2_id);
select * from t1 full outer join t2 on (t1_id = t2_id and t1_id > 2);
T1_ID T2_ID

URGENT! SEGV-errors when using Oracle C XML Parser for Solaris
I often (not always) got SEGV-error with core dump when I use Oracle Oracle C XML Parser for Solaris. This Error is always got in the call of the the function xmlinit(...) with all params as NULL but the first required for the error code and the second which i assign a macro that evaluates to "US-ASCII". Does anyone knows about this problem?
I am using a very short, wellformed and validated XML document.
I would be very glad for some help about this!
nullPlease provide a sample program along with the version number of the XML parser.

Oracle BI Apps questions, kindly help
Hi All,
I wanted to checkout the preconfigured reports that come with Oracle BI applications, for this i had download and installed
OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1
ORacle BI Applications 7.9.5
Informatica PowerCenter 8.6.0
Oracle EBS R12,
Question 1) I see that there is Oracle DAC 10.1.3.4 on the same download page, should i also download that as when i installed oracle BI applications 7.9.5 it installed DAC folder in OracleBI and i am able to access DAC client, so what is the need of separate DAC?.
Question 2) When i installed Oracle BI Applications 7.9.6(after uninstallting apps 7.9.5), there was no DAC folder in oracleBI location, in the guide it said DAC folder has to be present from previous installation, i guesss that means i need to have oracle Apps 7.9.5 installed before i install apps 7.9.6?
Question 3) Is informatica powercenter 8.6.0 compatible with above settings or do i need to install informatica from oracle website, i tried but it takes me to OBIEE download link
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/downloads/bus-intelligence-11g-165436.html
the softwares included are
Included:
BI Server Enterprise Edition
Server Administrator
Answers
Interactive Dashboard
Reporting and Publishing Delivers
Office Plug-In
BI Publisher
Scorecard and Strategy Management
Real-Time Decisions
WebLogic Server Standard Edition (restricted use) there is no Informatica in the above list!!!
thanks for your help,
regards,Hi,
1) You need to download DAC also to configue the BI apps.you can go through this link for more info
http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=5553233
2) You need to install either 7.9.5 apps or 7.9.6 version.....Because both are different that is BI apps 7.9.5 uses informatica....where as BI apps 7.9.6 will use ODI(oracle data integrator) and ODI doesnt use DAC for its installation.
So go for either one of those....i would suggest you to go for 7.9.5
3)Informatica 8.6.0 is compatable with 7.9.5 Apps.Google it to find informatica software.
Hope your questions are answered.
