Oracle UCM 11g Vs Oracle UCM10g

Hi,
I want to know the difference between Oracle UCM11g and Oracle UCM10g.
1. Whats the primary benefit for the client for chosing Oracle UCM 11g than Oracle UCM 10g.
2. Whats are all the changes added in UCM11g from customization perspective.
- Is Component Architecture is followed in UCM 11g
- Is IdocScript/Resource ,Template,Service,Service Handler,Filter are still exist and customization is possible through them?

biggest differences
1. You need WebLogic for 11g. 11g UCM runs as a java application inside of WLS.
2. WLS handles all security. UCM no longer controls security. There are NO local users (except for running the stand alone apps) anymore. All users are outside in a AD or LDAP store of some kind.
Ramifications:
1. For large enterprise systems the clustering and management available for WLS make a system extremely scalable.
2. Any beneficial properties of WLS now apply to UCM (there are many but I am not a WLS expert)
3. if UCM is all you need and you are not planning a clustered system and your hardware is not the most current.... then maybe 10 g is a better choice. Maybe.
4. Customization for the CS is unchanged, but things like security being different will break some customizations. As with any upgrade some includes and some resources change and thus break an existing component. Test custom components fully.

Oracle UCM 11G missing Web Form Editor

Hello All,
Oracle 10G UCM provided a WebForm Editor. After installation of newer version Oracle UCM 11G we found the feature is missing.
Is there a substitute provided by Oracle in 11G version for the same?
We need to provide functionality to end users where they could go and create some forms on their own. We were thinking to use Web-Form Editor for the same, but to our surprise we found the feature is missing.
Can anyone suggest if we are missing something. Any help is appreciated.

You're correct that the general UCM docs don't include that detail, but the FormEditor component readme.txt does include that info. I didn't open the readme.doc, but the readme says that there's more info in there.

How Indexing function in Oracle UCM 11g

I am using Oracle UCM 11g on Windows platform.
I wanted to know as how the indexing in Oracle UCM Funtions? Here are few more questions related to this.
1. If multiple language characters are added in document and if document is indexed, then
how the data (tokens) will be stored in Database?

This is stored in the DB tables IdcColl1 or IdcColl2 ( if DB FullText is search indexer engine) and table would be IdcText1 or IdcText2(if OracleTextSearch indexer is used) . It is these tables that store the entire data from the contents and they are referred to / queried when a FT search is invoked from UCM .
b. how indexing will be done?
Indexer would extract all the data from the contents in case of FT indexer mechanism and would store them in the DB tables mentioned above . It is stored in BLOB columns where in the extraction process would do an insert for every content item that is being processed when Collection Rebuild Cycle / Automatic Update cycle is started .
2. What is settings to be done in Oracle and search engine for this?
For DB the relevant UCM scripts need to be executed so that the correct role are created and the packages are created.
3. What will be extra settings need to be done in case if the OS changes for example Linux.
The relevant libraries need to be checked to make sure that indexer can access them since there are lots of dependent libraries for the indexer process which is invoked by the TextExport process and these libraries vary for different OS . As part of the indexer process to be running fine all that needs to be done is to install/enable the OS specific versions of ContentAccess component on UCM .
Hope this gives an understanding on the Indexing part of UCM .

Oracle UCM 11g Config with DB

I have configured Oracle UCM 11g in oracle sql developer, but am not able to see the tables related to Oracle UCM..(ex: Revisions, Docmeta).

I'd suggest you to follow the Installation guide - see Oracle&reg; Fusion Middleware Installing and Configuring Oracle WebCenter Content 11g Release 1 (11.1.1) - Contents
In a nutshell, tables (and everything else in the data model) are created by a utility called RCU. This is one pre-req to run the installation. Another issue could be that you have done installation, but you don't use the correct db user (scheme owner) to connect. The correct user for an installed instance can be obtain from the Weblogic admin console.

What file types are included PDFExportConverter for Oracle UCM 11g (PS3)

For UCM 11g PS3 or later, (WebCenter Content if you prefer), I am trying to find out the list of file types supported for conversion to PDF, and which are out of the box, and which need a 3rd party download.
Is there any documentation that lists supported file types, and how to get any 3rd party converters?
This is very urgent as the customer needs to put in their budget and include any costs associated with 3rd party converters.

Autonomy Oracle UCM connector to access Oracle UCM 11g

Hi,
How do I setup Oracle UCM 11g instance so that we can test the Autonomy Oracle UCM connector? Are there any specific configurations or do we need to install anything to make Autonomy Oracle UCM connector to access Oracle UCM 11g. Any help is appreciated.

Autonomy sells a connector that will index items in Oracle UCM into the IDOL Server. You'll have to check with Autonomy on the versions supported and the cost. With this, you could get UCM information into IDOL just the same as you are doing with HTTPFetch and FileSystemFetch.
As for connecting UCM into the WLP Virtual Content Repository, there is not yet anything provided out of the box. However, you can implement your own CM SPI to provide this or you can wait for the product to provide it. It is my understanding that there will be a VCR integration via the CM SPI coming soon.
Finally, BEACMRepoFetch is basically a pre-configured and privately used instance of FileSystemFetch. This is used by the BEA Content Repository to populate the IDOL Server index for full text searches coming through the VCR full text search API.

Gett 403 error code when trying to access UCM 11g from Admin console -- deployment

We have deployed UCM 11g in cluster mode. When I test the application via the admin conssole --> deployment --> UCM. I can access UCM only on one member of the cluster. The other member gives me a 403 error code..

Content migration Stellent 7.5 to UCM 11g | Facing trouble

We are upgrading from Stellent 7.5 to UCM 11g. Stellent 7.5 is on windows 2003 with SQL 2005 database, and UCM 11g is on Linux RHEL 5.6 with Oracle 11g database.
We are using archiver to migrate contents from Stellent to UCM. The import batch program is successfully executing. Below is the process we follow to migrate the contents which are in workflow.
1- Moved folders for migrating user workflow history and states of workflows
     <stellent idc root>\data\workflow to <ucm root>\data\workflow
     <stellent idc root>\data\user\profiles to <ucm root>\data\user\profiles
2- Migrated table data
     - truncating table data, the tables are : Revisions, DocMeta, Documents, DocumentHistory and RevClasses etc
     - Migrating data of these tables from MSSQL to Oracle so that workflow state, document checkout states are also preserved
     - wf_in_queue stores did of content therefore old did (of 7.5) needs to be preserved to show documents lying in user's queue
     - As well as there are some custom tables which are dependent on did.
Now the problem is, the native url of the link is pointing to new did.extention which was generated while content import through archiver. And if we migrate the table data as mentioned above the native url shows the old did.xls but this file doesnot exists in the file system.
Is there any who also faced the same situation?
Or is there a better way of migrating contents from 7.5 to 11g.

There is no supported direct migration path from 7.5 to 11g. The supported migration path is to upgrade the 7.5 instance to 10g, then upgrade the 10g instance to 11g.

Changing the UCM Database

Unable to create content properly in UCM 11G using validateStandard filter

Hi All,
    We have used validateStandard filter to assign content id with 16 digits in UCM 10G and it worked well, we deployed this component in UCM 11G but it is not working properly. When we click on Check In button content is getting created and displaying Check_In Confirmation with 16 digit Content ID, upon clicking on Content Info it is displaying the complete info page. When we try to search the content it is not displaying in search results, also when tried to export it using Archiver it is not creating batch file. When we see logs in View Server out put it is displaying

Information Architecure for UCM 11g/WebCenter PS4

Can anyone share their info architecture findings for UCM/11g and WebCenter PS4 e.g. security model, metadata model, taxonomy approach for managing group spaces. I'm keen to hear if you've put a info governance structure around the content for example - and if so - how did you form it? Where did your security model stope e.g. at Group Space level, or did you have to consider the confidential nature of documents within folders in the group space. Have you add additional metadata fields to help with search?

Wll, it's quiet easy. Webcenter is designed to handle services. UCM is also complettly service oriented so you could create a webapplication with webcenter where you define services from UCM and create your own user interface.
It's nothing more than the fact that webcenter can handle services (WSDL, SOAP).
You could create a site without siteStudio, using webcenter. Nothing wrong with that but don't forget that siteStudio has lots of tools that are great for UCM like the contributor mode. Also, the fragments that are allready build in in siteStudio give a big advantage. If you want to create these things in zebcenter, you'll have to start from scratch.
I do believe Oracle is working on an portal like interface to create portlets and stuff, perhaps they will create some tools special for the use of UCM and webcenter. This offcourse would be very nice

Problem invoking UCM 11g Web services from ODI 11g

We have a running UCM 11g instance with its web services (GenericRequest) properly configurated.
The wsdl is published in the url http://ucmt:16200/idcws/GenericSoapPort?WSDL and reacheble from any web browser.
The service can be easily invoked from external applications such as soapUI 4.5.1 returning the correct SOAP response. Here is a sample request returning correct results:

I would suggest contacting support channel to analyze such NPE if there is a product bug causing it.

You will need a test system, use VirtualBox as you can undo any disasters by taking snapshots. If you don't know how to configure and administer managed servers in Weblogic Server then learn that first - just how to configure UCM and Node Manager so you can start and stop it from the Admin Server console.
It is worth learning to install Webcenter Content on Linux ( I recommend Oracle 6.6) and also on Windows if you want to use Enterprise Capture with Recognition but if you are impatient to start with UCM, Oracle have a ready-made VM with just about everything you need installed. Oracle WebCenter Portal 11.1.1.8 Virtual Machine | Oracle Technology Network | Oracle. You may need to patch the installation, I don't know what patch level it is set to.
When reading the Oracle documentation Make sure you get the WCC UCM documentation not the IPM documentation. Make lots of bookmarks and when you see "for more information on..." open the link in a new tab or you will get lost seven levels down when you realise you are back to the same page you started from.
Learn the security model, a group in Weblogic Server with the same names as a Role in UCM will be granted the Role's access, how to use content types, rules and profiles. if you have experience with any other DM systems, know that metadata fields in UCM are not attributes of a document class, they are attributes of the system and present for all documents unless you filter them out with Rules.
Know also that there are two Web UIs so when you read the latest documentation the screenshots are from the latest Web UI. I don't know if it has been installed in the Portal VM but if you want to install it, read the Support article 1618305.1, it is not simple.

Migration from Stellent v7.g to UCM 11g - Configuration Migration Utility

Hello,
I am in the process of planning a migration from the old Stellent 7.5 system to the new Oracle UCM 11g.
I keep hearing of a utility called "Configuration Migration Utility" to setup the 11g system with the same users, folders, metadata, etc... as the older Stellent system. Does anybody know where to find this utility? Is there a single tool that will "export" the configuration from my Stellent and import that configuration onto my 11g?

CMU tool is a way to create the entire configuration bundle from 1 instance to the other .
This is a component that will be available from patchset 13526049 which is for CS 7.5
You will need to put this patchset on the 7.5 server and then from the option list select CMU which will then install the component on server .
For ucm 11g it is already installed on the server but disabled by default .

Fulltext search in UCM 11g

Hi,
we are using UCM 11g in our application. Database is oracle 11G for the UCM. We need fulltext search to be enabled on UCM. But there two option to enable the fulltext search DATABASE.FULLTEXT and ORACLETEXTSEARCH.
Can anybody please tell which option should be used to enable fulltext search.

Hi Nitin,
We can configure the new file formats for full text search. Steps below:
Log in to with Admin permissions.
Go to Administration -> Admin Applets -> Configuration Manager
Options tab -> File Formats
Go to File extensions section add your new file extension for which you want to enable the full text and map to some text format or word format
Now, you will be able to full text your own extension based file. I have verified, it's working well
Please note that, if the file extension is more than 8 characters (default value) you will not be able to add;
But, you can alter the table "ExTENSIONFORMATMAP" and can go ahead with longer extensions. Hope this will be useful.
