Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux!

How many of you uses "Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux"? I am just curious as Linux user for many years, I like it stable and with a very nice look and feel Linux and because of that I just wanted to know how many more for you uses it.
Looking forward to see the number or responses counting up. :-)

Not I, it's CentOS or RHEL for me. I just don't see the point in the Oracle distro until they get it so that you don't need to do prereqs to install Oracle.

    Hello
Does Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux come with an ndiswrapper kernel module?
Does Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux come with a package for the ndiswrapper kernel module that matches the kernel version?
What wireless driver is compatible with Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux?

    Hi,
Oracle Unbreakable Linux does not come with any ndiswrapper kernel module and any package for ndiswrapper module. But it includes many wireless network drivers. You can look at them from kernel package. For example
    rpm -qlp kernel-2.6.18-8.el5.i686.rpm |grep wireless
From the output, you can find which wireless drivers are coming with Oracle Unbreakable Linux kernel.

  • Diff between oracle linux and oracle enterprise linux?

    hi all,
i am new to this flavor of Linux. I know oracle linux has red hat source, but i am confused about the difference betweek oracle linux which comes in versions 4 (upto update 8) and 5 (latest update being 5).
i need to install oracle enterprise linux at a client place, so i gota know the difference.
Should i be installing oracle Linux first and then run the rpm of "Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel"? or is the "Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel" only for customers who require this kernal on oracle linux update 5 x86_64?
    thanks

From what I understand Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) is a rebranded version of Red hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
Oracle Linux (OL) is OEL plus Oracle optimization and custom, newer kernel. OL with Oracle "Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel" is available as x86_64 only and was introduced based on OEL or RHEL 5.5.
You can install OEL 5.4 and easily upgrade to OEL 5.5, PMFJI, but can you point me to docs on how to make that upgrade? The timing of this msg on the forum was exquisite, as I started looking at that just today. I have an OEL 5.4 installation and would much rather upgrade to 5.5 than to have to rebuild from scratch.
I did a yum install kernel with the 5.5 version of the public-yum-el5.repo. That went without a hitch and now reports "2.6.32-100.0.19.el5 #1" where I was 2.6.18-164.el5, but I also see
    [root@myserver ~]# uname -a
    Linux myserver 2.6.32-100.0.19.el5 #1 SMP Fri Sep 17 17:51:41 EDT 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Enterprise Linux Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Carthage)
    [root@myserver ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Tikanga)Bottom line is that I am charged with updating the kernel to a 2.6 version newer than 19 Sep, or applying a patch for the compat_alloc_user_space() function, and am not sure exactly how to proceed from here.
if you like or start to install from version 5.5, and then install OL 5.5 by downloading the Oracle public yum repository and follow the instructions at http://public-yum.oracle.com

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to determine whether the required rpm packages are installed on the new EL 4, and it seems after running the query using the # rpm -q there are packages missing.
According to the install section from the Doc Library these packages must exist in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 for 10g to install successfully. My guess is, if RHEL 4 needs to have it, then Oracles Unbreakable should too... right?

Two methods can reach your goal as following:
    1,mount the ISO and cd Enterprise/RPMS and manually install these packages one by one;
    2,Use up2date packages_name install from ULN.

  • Unbreakable Linux error: That's not the correct Enterprise Linux CDROM

I eagerly downloaded Unbreakable Linux (4 CDROMS) and tried to install it in a VMWARE (Workstation 5.5.1 build-19175) virtual machine.
I choose RHEL 4.0 32bit as a base (Typical VM configuration).
All went fine until disc 3 was asked for during install. I got a "That's not the correct Enterprise Linux CDROM" error. I tried also to mount the other ISO's but that didn't work out either.
    Frustrating.
The mediacheck results in PASS for all 4 CD's - and they all are all recognized correctly. So I made sure I got the complete set.
    Anyone a shot...?

  • Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 w/ unixODC connect to Oracle DB 11g

    Hi,
I am trying to configure our new install of Oracle Unbreakable linux (Enterprise v5) to connect to our Oracle 11g DB via ODBC. I have configured the odbc.ini and odbcinst.ini files. I have tried to do a test connection using isql. This is the error I am getting....
    $ isql -v JSI
isql: symbol lookup error: /opt/oracle/product/11g/lib/libsqora.so.11.1: undefined symbol: SQLGetPrivateProfileStringW
I understand this issue is with unixODBC and the liib.... libodbcinst.so.1.0.0. However, I have not found a way to fix this. Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated on getting this working.

Well I have gotten a bit further along. I was able to get a working 2.2.12 rpm. I now issue the command....
    $isql -v JSI
    [S1000][unixODBC][Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12504: TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA
    [ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect
Now I am getting this error.
I also know that my tnsnames.ora and linstener.ora files are correct b/c I can connect to remote Databases using sqlplus. I have downloaded a free trial of easysofts Oracle ODBC Driver and it works perfectly. So my configs should be right. My yquestion I guess is why does the Oracle supplied ODBC driver not work?

  • OCS on Oracle "UnBreakable" Linux?

    Hi,
Is it possible to run OCS on Oracle "UnBreakable" Linux?
Any information concerning this issue would be highly appreciated
    Thanks

We have installed OCS 10.1.2 on Oracle Enterprise Linux AS release 4 without any trouble.
Oracle Enterprise Linux is the Linux distribution, which is a copy from Redhat Enterprise Linux without the copyrighted material.
Oracle Unbreakable Linux is the support program that Oracle provides for this OS.
With an OCS CSI, TAR can be opened concerning OCS problem on Enterprise Linux, which is a supported distribution for OCS install.
TAR related to Enterprise Linux operating system problems cannot be opened without subscribing to the Unbreakable Linux support.

  • Is anyone running SAP on Oracle Unbreakable Linux

    Hi all
Is there any one out there using Oracle Unbreakable Linux as the  operating system for any SAP Installations (ECC/CRM/BI etc) ?
If yes, can you share your experience in terms of system stability, compatability, support pack issues ?
    Thanks in advance
    Nagesh

There's even a note for it:
Note 997990 - Oracle Enterprise Linux / Oracle Unbreakable Linux
Since it's based on Redhat it should work, however, if there are SAP specific issues with tools and versions it may be difficult to get support, same as with CentOS - which is a "recompiled Redhat Enterprise Linux" - same code as normal $$$ Redhat Advanced Server with a different logo.
For to-become-productive systems I'd always use a supported operating system, however, I'm sure a SAP system will run on unbreakable Linux too as well as on other distributions; the statement of not supporting it may also be a political one, don't forget that Oracle and SAP are the biggest competitors!
