  • Oracle Upgrade from 10g to 11g [BRANCHED BY MODERATOR]

    Hi Deepak/Folks,
Another question that I have is that while doing the Oracle Upgrade on an EP server, the patches were not installed properly and I had to shut down the Patches installation after it did not do anything for a while.
Now when I try to install the patches it fails telling me that the Installed patches cannot be verified, I had written to SAP and they told me to follow the
    SAP note 1862446 - Inventory
load failed... OPatch cannot load inventory for the given Oracle Home
    and re-create the oracle  inventory.
This has also not helped in anyway.
Is there a solution to this problem.

i)Out-of-place upgrade (Recommended) -- 11.2.0.3 will be installed as standalone at another location. So there is no impact on source oracle home and also DB upgrade will take less time
See Note 1276368.1 : Complete checklist for out-of-place manual upgrade from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2 , it is applicable for 11.2.0.3 as well
ii)in-place upgrade - 11.2.0.3 will be installed on top of 11.2 installation, So source oracle home will be replaced, Downtime will be high comparing out of place upgrade

  • Effects of Oracle Upgrade from 10.2.0.1(32bit) to 10.2.0.4(64bit)

We are planning a Database Server upgrade. The current configuration is Red Hat Linux 4 (32Bit) and Oracle Database Enterprise 10.2.0.1 (32Bit). The proposed configuration is Red Hat Linux 5 (64Bit) and Oracle Database Enterprise 10.2.0.4 (64Bit).
No plans to change the middle-tier servers:
    O/S- Windows 2003
OAS- Oracle Application Server Lite [Forms and Reports Service]- Version 10.1.2.0.2 .
No plans to change the development tools:
    O/S- Windows XP SP2
    Oracle Forms and Reports - (32Bit) Version 10.1.2.0.2 .
Has anyone encountered any gotchas/compatibility issues we should be aware of ? Do we need to upgrade the middle-tier and Developer Tools at the same time ?
Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Our forms application runs against a databases runnung on lot of platforms, like
    HP-UX, AIX, WinServer 2k3, RedHat, Suse,...32 and 64 bit from 9.2.0.8 up to 10.2.0.4...
our development database is a 9.2.0.6 Windows Server 2003 32bit, and I haven't faced any problems on other platforms after moving to them (except the platform specific database bugs).
Only thing I can remember would be, if you make use of the utl_file package on the database - I'm sure you know the dos2unix and unix2dos fileformat problem.
so if you don't plan to change the middle-tier servers you should not run into serious problems (except a recompile of your forms against the new database could be necessary) to my mind. No need for changing middle tier and developer toos.
    regards

  • Oracle Upgrade from Oracle RAC 9.2.0.6 to Oracle 10.2.0.4

    Hi All,
Currently, we are running 4 node Oracle RAC environment with below mentioned configuration.
    OS: Sun Solaris 5.9
    Hardware: Sun E2900
    Oracle Version: 9.2.0.6
    Veritas Cluster Server: 4.1
We want to upgrade Oracle version to 10g, and currently analyzing the options to perform this. The current database size is 1TB appx and we want to spend minimum application shutdown time running on this database.
As part of upgrade, we also need to upgrade Veritas Cluster Server from 4.1 to 5.1 to support Oracle 10g. It would be great help,, if someone can pass some guideline to perform this task.
We are currently thinking about piecemeal approach, where we can upgrade each node individually and then put them back to cluster. There are some complexities involved, and its really high risk approach.
Thanks a lot in advance for help
    Regards,
    Manoj

Orcale 10g RAC requires you to install Oracle Clusterware. Oracle Supports running it along side a 3rd party clustering software. Not sure why you're so anxious to upgrade Veritas Clusterware when it will be trivial on the 10g db hosts.

  • Access a view on a 32 bit Oracle 9i  from a MS SQL 2008 R2 64 bit

NOt sure if this is the right forum for this.
We need to access a view on a 32 bit Oracle 9i - Release 9.2.0.8.0 database running on Windows 2003 Server, from a MS SQL 2008 R2 64 bit system running on Windows Server 2008 64 bit.

When yu want to access a view hosted in Oracle and retrieve data from this view in a MS SQl Server, then you need to use MS SQL Server Linked Server mechanism based on OLEDB/ODBC.
Since MS SQL Server this feature is integrated in MS Integration Services and more details can be found at the MS knowledge base.

  • Issue in oracle upgrade from 9i to 10g.

    Hi,
I have an MS access application running on oracle database.Recently database is upgraded from 9i to 10g.
After upgrade application is facing the conversion problem.it is throwing an error on varchar and time stamp field showing invalid timestamp message.NLS setting of both the version is same. Please suggest.

    Thank you,
Here are the answers of your queries.
Yes,This is affecting only MS access application because no other application is accessing this database.
No,No other component of the application is changed or upgraded it is only database which is upgraded.
The error is ORA-06502:PL/SQL:numeric or value error:Character to number conversion error.(In the application the value of this field is defind as Double and in database table it is VarChar and the system was working fine untill database upgrade after upgrade it is giving above error.)
For another field it is giving the error "No valid timestamp" although the same was working fine before upgrade.
No I have not traced the actual sessions but from the backup of 9i I have checked NLS setting and compared it with 10g and found that both are the same.
Hope I have not confused you.

  • Oracle upgrade from 9i

    Dear all,
Currently we are using SAP R/3 4.7 on HP-UX with RDBMS oracle 9i. As we know, oracle 9i is out of support so now we want to upgarde it. Can u suggest me some questions relarted to this...
    1. How much down time it will require for successfull upgardation from 9i to 10g or 11g?
    2. We should go for 10g or 11g?
    3. Will the oracle software chargeable from SAP service marketplace site as we already have license for R/3 and oracle 9i from SAP?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ankit Gupta

    Hi
Recently we have done an upgrade from Oracle 9i R2 to Oracle 10g rel2 ( patch 10.2.04 )
    Answering to your questions :
    1. For the planning , please perform the same in the Sandboxes first. The process will be that you bring down SAP, perfrm a database upgrade , and then bring SAP up again.
For the DB upgrade , please go though the documented process and have all the requirements ready before doing the same in the Production System as it involves lots of Unix intervention.
In the sandbox , it took us a lot of time , however the expertise developed helped us in doing the Production upgrade in about 2-3 hours.
    2. No , please upgrade to 10gr2 only now. it is well supported by Oracle and SAP
    3. There will no extra charge for upgrading to oracle 10gr2 if you are having Licensed Oracle 9i software. U can get the CD's through Metalink SR .
Let me know if u need more information

    There is nothing like that.
Each system is different, each application is different; on top of that it would be WAY too much to post here.

  • It's possbile to upgraded from win2003 x64 sp2 which installed SCOM 2007 R2 into windows 2008 R2 directly?

    current OS: windows 2003 R2 x64 SP2
current SCOM version: SCOM 2007 R2
current database version: SQL Server 2005
it's possbile to upgraded from win2003  which installed SCOM 2007 R2  into windows 2008 R2 directly without reconfiguartion SCOM?

    Hi,
And as far as I know, in-place operating system upgrade could work, but there is no document about this. Please take backup before doing upgrade.
If you want to in place upgrade the OS, we can simply move SCOM databases to  new servers and rebuild management servers one at a time. the downtime for SCOM would be very minimum if the management group has the capacity for agents to report to failover
management servers while the primary MS is getting rebuilt. You do not have to perform in place upgrade on the OS to keep SCOM.
Based on your need, I would like to suggest you add a Windows 2008 R2 as additional management server for your management group. And if possible, please also upgrade your SQL 2005 to SQL 2008.
Here is a thread for your reference:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/4713e303-76a7-4954-9494-55565757d65e/scom-server-os-and-sql-upgrade-from-2003-to-2008-r2
    Regards, Yan Li
Dear Yan, Since rebuild/config SCOM Server is very complicated so it's better that I can just upgraded OS into windows 2008 R2 without do anything else.

    Hello,
We have  R/3 4.7 SR2 system with Oracle 9.2 on 32 bit Windows platform  (x86). We want to upgrade Database from Oracle 9.2 to Oracle 10.2 .
Is this possible ? If yes what is the procedure for same.
I searched but did not get any SAP document .Wpould appreciate any available documents you can share.
    regards,
    Pravash Raikar

    Hi,
But when I goto SAP site : R/3 4.7C --> Upgrade --> Oracle ... it only provides DVD for Oracle 10.2 for 64 bit platform....
SAP suggest to migrate 32bit platform to 64 bit,
If your requirement is 10.2 32bit then you can raise an OSS with where sap will enable the archive link for customer to download 32 bit dump.
    Thanks

  • Oracle upgrade from 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.3

    Hi,
    OS:RHEL3
We are in process of moving database to other machine (same name, same config) and upgrading db from 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.3. We forgot to copy home.
Can we start db from 10.2.0.3 and invoke dbua for upgrade?
or do i need to install 10.1.0.4 again and startup db and invoke dbua.
I started db in upgrade mode from 10.2.0.3 binaries and tried invoking dbua. It got "table does not exists error".
If i start db normally under 10.2.0.3 home and try upgrade with dbua will this work?
    Thanks,
    Anil

    Hi,
DBUA upgrades the old database to new database by getting information from existing old database. These informations are stored in oratab file. Moreover oracle need the old database to start while performing upgradation. Starting of old database is not possible till you have its oracle home installed. So you are required to have older version oracle home installed before you carry out installation.
The older version can be new installation or old installation copy.
