Oracle url problem

Hi there,
I'm trying to make a program to access a oracle table for the first time and I'm I'm having problems with the following command
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection( url, "internal", "kirchner" );
where
String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:2481:mib";
and mib is the ORACLE_SID.
Does anyone have any idea what can be the problem? By the way, am I supposed to install something besides Java and Oracle or change any configuration?
Thanks,
Andre

Hi Joel,
thanks a lot for the help. Now I could make it work fine using the Oracle thin driver as you said, but whn I try to use the SUN JDBC-ODBC BRIDGE I get the following error
java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

these source I used for this teste is the following on
package test;
import java.sql.*;
public class Test
..public Test()
....try
......Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
......Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection( "jdbc:odbc:mib", "test", "123teste123" );
....catch( Exception theException )
......theException.printStackTrace();
......System.exit( 1 );
what can be the problem now? Don't I need to specify the port and IP address where the Oracle listener is listening?
Thanks,
Andre

    Hi all,
    In the middle of the last week for my final year project and having to convert to an Oracle database due to compatibility problems with university Tomcat Server and MS Access. I'm having trouble connecting to the Oracle database and would appreciate some help please.
    Running on Windows 98 in the lab here, and the Oracle 9i, release 9.2.0.2.0, J2SDK1.4.0, Classes12.zip installed OK.
    Code for connection looks like this inside the constructor of my class:
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    cardSaleConnexion = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:[email protected]:1521:sid","user_name","pwdt");

    Try ojdbc14.jar as the JDBC driver instead of classes12.zip.
    Refer:
    http://otn.oracle.com/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc9201.html
    http://docs.sun.com/source/817-5603-10/index.html
    Database Driver
    This section describes the known database driver issues and associated solutions.
    ID      Summary
    4700531      On Solaris, an ORACLE JDBC driver error occurs.
         This new Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) driver is for Oracle (R) working with JDK1.4. The problem is caused by a combination of the Oracle 9.1 database and ojdbc14.jar. Applying the patch will fix the problem on Solaris 32-bit machine, running an Oracle 9.0.1.3 database.
         Solution
         Obtain and apply the patch to your server from the Oracle Web site for Bug 2199718. Perform the following steps:
         1.Go to the Oracle web site.
         2.Click the 'patches' button.
         3.Type 2199718 in the patch number field.
         4.Click the 32-bit Solaris OS patch.Go to Metalink.oracle.com.
         5.Click patches.
         6.Under patch number, enter 2199718.
         7.Click the 32 bit Solaris OS patch.
    4707531      On Solaris, accessing an Oracle 9.1 database with an Oracle 9.2 Client may cause data corruption.
         If you use an Oracle (R) 9.2 client to access an Oracle 9.1 database, data corruption might occur when a number column follows a timestamp column.
         The problem might be caused by using the ojdbc14.jar file with an Oracle 9.1 database. Applying the patch might assist in addressing the situation on Solaris 32-bit machines, running an Oracle 9.1 database. This JDBC driver is for Oracle working with JDK1.4.
         Solution
         Obtain the patch that Oracle might make available from the Oracle web site for Bug 2199718 and apply it to your server.
    Regards,
    Pankaj D.

  • Invalid Oracle URL specified: OracleDataSource.makeURL in Arquillian ITest

    I asked this on Stackoverflow but haven't received any feedback.  oracle11g - Invalid Oracle URL specified: OracleDataSource.makeURL in Arquillian ITest - Stack Overflow   I'm hoping for a response here.
    I work hard to resolve any and every error I get thrown and mostly always work out the solution.  I find a good walk helps.  But this one has me stumped, I've been staring at this same error all day.  Like Ticcie in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1332869/invalid-oracle-url-specified-oracledatasource-makeurl suggests, the error message does nothing to help understand what is wrong.

    I am doing Arquillian Integration Testing for a Java EE 7 EAR application.  Its been going well using JPA and the DerbyDb but I now need to test Native Oracle DB (11g) SQL.  So I've setup a new testing project to connect to an OracleDB using EclipseLink.
    I CAN connect to the database through the Eclipse IDE DataSource explorer and ping it no problems.
    I DO connect to a sister Oracle database in Glassfish standalone and ping it no problems.
    But the Arquillian Test cannot connect to it with the above ambiguous error.
    I use exactly the same URL as I have with the Eclipse IDE DataSource explorer:

    I followed Diagnosability in JDBC to try and increase the log output.  It provides a little more insight.  Below is the relevant log messages.
    Can anyone tell me what's going wrong and what I need to do to make it work?  Sample project is attached (I assume I can attach and will try after posting since I can't see anything at the moment).  To get going you'll need to do the following:
    1. Add OJDBC6_g to your local maven repository with:
    <pre _modifiedtitle="true" jivemacrouid="_13768941800232399" ___default_attr="javascript" jivemacro="code" class="jive_text_macro jive_macro_code jivemacrouid_13768941800232399">mvn install:install-file -Dfile=ojdbc6_g.jar -DgroupId=com.oracle  -DartifactId=ojdbc6_g -Dversion=11.2.0 -Dpackaging=jar
    Be running an Oracle11g DB and set the parameters in the file:
    <pre jivemacrouid="_13768943053094146" ___default_attr="plain" jivemacro="code" class="jive_text_macro jive_macro_code jivemacrouid_13768943053094146">sun/main/resources-glassfish-embedded

    Also notice there is a 'derby' version of this file and the sun-resources file.  And there is a line of code in createData() in the AlertSQLTest.java Unit Test file (that you run) to change between Derby and Oracle.  The point of this is to show that Derby works fine, although of course you don't need to specify a URL nor username and password.  I'm confident the persistence.xml is being used.
    In the following log output I'm most interested in the line:
    <pre jivemacrouid="_1376955648594262" ___default_attr="plain" jivemacro="code" class="jive_text_macro jive_macro_code jivemacrouid_1376955648594262">Aug 19, 2013 4:09:37 PM oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource getConnection

    Which immediately proceeds the exception.

    From my perspective, if the connection request does not make it to the listener which runs on the DB Server, then the error is external to Oracle & so is the fix.
    EVERY connection request that is received by the listener is logged into listener.log file.
    If nothing is logged, then the problem occurs before any real Oracle software is contacted.
    You can continue to blame Oracle but it won''t get you any closer to finding the root cause or any solution.
    when was the last time this worked without error?
    What changed since then?

I am waiting for the senior advisor to get back to me on this issue. I am in THailand now where the problem is happening and as I said the ISP says they do not block any podcasts.I also do not want it on my iphone 5, so I have to wait and see why the mac mini is not getting it.

    I seem to have fixed it by putting <div  class="clearfloat"></div> after the navigation bar?

  • Invalid oracle url

    I have set the class & driver
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin@localhost:1521:test","test","test");
    Don't understand why JDeveloper has an invalid Oracle URL error??
    Any suggestions appreciated. Spent several hours, no joy.

    What's the specific error you are getting?
    Are you sure your database SID is test?
    If you are inside JDeveloper try this - type conn and press control+enter - this will use the connection template and will give you the right syntax for creating a JDBC connection.

  • MySQL in JDeveloper - Invalid Oracle URL specified

    I am using JDev 10.1.3 with MySQL 4.1.13 and Connector/J 3.1.10.
    I tried to follow the instructions at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/duff/mysql_and_oc4j3.html
    but JDev doesn't seem to be using the data-sources.xml file in jdev/j2ee/home/config and the names in that file in the examples don't seem to match the web.xml file.
    I added a MySQL connection using the 3rd party driver using New DataBase Connection was was succesful. The Test button works and I can browse the tables of my database! However, when I try to access the database from my Java class, I get "java.sql.SQLException: Invalid Oracle URL specified"
    My web.xml shows:
    <resource-ref>
    <res-ref-name>jdbc/MyDBDS</res-ref-name>
    <res-type>javax.sql.ConnectionDataSource</res-type>
    <res-auth>Container</res-auth>
    </resource-ref>
    My appname-data-sources.xml file in my webapp dir contains:

    <managed-data-source name="jdev-connection-MyDB" jndi-name="jdbc/MyDBDS" connection-pool-name="jdev-connection-pool-MyDB"/>

    Try using com.mysql.jdbc.jdbc2.optional.MysqlConnectionPoolDataSource as your connection pool data source in appname-data-sources.xml instead of oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource.
    More information about creating a pooled data source for mysql is available here:

    Everyones Oracle Linux Problem solved!!!
    Here's something Linux people should relate to: Use what works!
    what works?
    NT works! NT works great with 8i AND OAS.
    No hassles at all!
    Up and running within one day!!!!
    Guaranteed!
    U don't see a NT forum here with people having ridiculous install problems like Linux people?
    Perhaps Oracle should moderate this newsgroup and even give an authorative answer or two?

    I have switched our development and soon production databases to Linux because it runs like a charm. Fast and efficient, no problems. The installer has been a problem no doubt because Oracle put less of an emphasis on debugging their Linux installer than their idiot-proof NT installer.
    By the way, I was able to circumvent installer problems by just linking svrmgrl to svrmgrlO; this avoided the dreaded segmentation fault and kicked everything open just fine.
    BTW, about NT; what makes an OS is not how well everything works when everything is going well, but how bad it gets when something goes bad. For instance, the segmentation faults on Linux weren't a problem because I just picked up and continued; on NT you'd have to restart the whole system...not a pleasant feature.

  • The great Oracle URL shuffle: are jdev extensions broken?

    I've been trying to install the JDev dynamic tab page template extension 1.02 today without much success. Right I thought, I'll download the extension manually and install it locally. But the extensions page is borked too, clicking the relevant link redirects to the JDev home page. So my question is, has the great Oracle URL reorg broken 1 or more of the downloadable extensions too?
    Or is it just me?!
    CM.

    It's just you.
    http://www.oracle.com/ocom/groups/public/@otn/documents/webcontent/131167.xml (redirected from htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=updatecenter:uc) works... oh and then trying to download the actual extension - yeah, borked.
    [url http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=xx-bork]bork bork bork
    The great OTN reorg is really annoying!

  • URL Problem Oracle 10g Forms and Reports

    Hello Room,
    As this question is related to forms and reports both, I have posted it here. I have a system which needs to be deployed in Local Lan Network and also the same Local Lan user should be able to access the same application via internet. In Addition there are also suppliers, customers who dosen't have oracle installed but will be accessing forms and reports via the url through internet which will be a natted url to our public IP. I have loaded Oracle 11g on windows 7 and all my network clients are on windows 7. I have not loaded forms and reports 10g on server, but only database 11g is installed on server. My problem is listed in points below:-
    1. Do I need to install forms and reports on server to achieve the above scenario ? or the local network installation of forms and reports on all client PC's will do ?
    2. To start OC4J instance, shall i start it only on server through batch file while booting server, or it needs to be started on all client PC's to start work from client end ?
    3. When i run forms from my client PC I get local url http://127.0.0.1/ to reach forms servlet which end up in http://localpc/.... from cookie redirect, whether this needs to be http://server/...... on all client PC's to reach the forms servlet ?
    4. If I have to start url http://server/ instead of http://127.0.0.1/... automatically while running every form to reach forms servlet, how to achieve this ?
    5. There are reports to be run from forms and parameters needs to be passed in reports from forms 10g. So in web.show_document shall i refer to absolute url for local acccess or http://server url as the same user can go to internet to access the data. ?
    6. if I load forms and reports 10g on server, do I need to install forms and reports on client end seperately to gain access in local network ?
    7. My forms and reports folders are located on server which are shared for access.
    8. What will be the scenario in case of suppliers and customers who does not have anything installed on their PC and will access forms and reports through internet ?
    I want to minimize my work. Please suggest me how to proceed about accessing forms, passing url from forms to reports in web.show_document, and Internet access url ?
    Your help is highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    I have tried to explain you in decent way several times that I am not lazy and there are reasons that I do not want to read pdf, because I have already read that all ! In the future please do not respond to my thread. I am not asking for your personal time. If you do not understand my efforts. Just ignore it. I have read all the white papers of Oracle and give me your email id, I will send you all the code which I have read or downloaded. You should know that the knowledge diminish as the technology change. And that does not mean every user in the forum is stupid and as wise as you are. I repeat to state that I have 15 years of experience in Oracle forms 6i._ including Oracle 7,8,9i. This is the first time I am ever visiting oracle forums since past several years. I was the first person to use oracle 7 in my city where people were not knowing what oracle is. At that time I was knowing that the password for scott is tiger which even the reputed institutes in my city was not knowing. at that time I was also knowing that one of the person from oracle made a mistake in indexing the rowid. I think this should be enough to you for now.

  • Sun Web Server 6.1 Insert into Oracle Database problem

    Hello there,
    I'm using Sun Java Studio Creator 2004Q2 Update 7, and trying to deploy to Sun ONE Web Server 6.1 SP3 without much luck.
    I am trying to use ojdbc14.jar and have included it in a lib directory added to Native Lib Path Prefix.
    DataSource Classname oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource
    URL jdbc:oracle:thin:@myserver:1521:myinstance
    JNDI Name jdbc/HBC
    In the constructor I have:
            // <editor-fold defaultstate="collapsed" desc="Creator-managed Component Initialization">
            try {
                abcRowSet.setDataSourceName("java:comp/env/jdbc/HBC");
                abcRowSet.setCommand("SELECT ALL ABC.TT.XX, ABC.TT.YY, ABC.TT.ZZ FROM ABC.TT");
                abcRowSet.setConcurrency(java.sql.ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
            } catch (Exception e) {
                log("TestEntry Initialization Failure", e);
                throw e instanceof javax.faces.FacesException ? (FacesException) e: new FacesException(e);
            // </editor-fold>
            // Additional user provided initialization code
             try {
                 abcRowSet.execute();
                 abcRowSet.next();
             } catch (Exception ex) {
    Then in the submit button action I have:
            try {
              abcRowSet.moveToInsertRow();
              abcRowSet.updateString("XX",fieldXX.getValue().toString());
              abcRowSet.updateString("YY",fieldYY.getValue().toString());
              abcRowSet.updateString("ZZ",fieldZZ.getValue().toString());
              abcRowSet.insertRow();
              abcRowSet.moveToCurrentRow();
              abcRowSet.commit();
            } catch (SQLException se) {
                error("ERROR SQLException: " + se);
                log("LOG SQLException: " + se);
                try {
                    abcRowSet.rollback();
                } catch (SQLException se2) {
                    log("ROLLBACK SQLException: " + se2);
    When I run this I get:
            [25/Apr/2005:20:32:41] info ( 2652): for host 127.0.0.1 trying to POST /hbc/faces/TestEntry.jsp,
            service-j2ee reports: WEB2798: [/hbc] ServletContext.log(): LOG SQLException:
            java.sql.SQLException: Invalid operation for read only resultset: moveToInsertRowAlternatively (1) I have tried to have automatically generated rave connection pool / jdbc resources and copying over the driveradapter.jar but as we know that version is locked for embedded applications only (since Creator only includes the AppServer PE's driveradapter which cannot be deployed on WebServers).
    Alternatively (2) I have tried manually setting up the connection pool / jdbc resources and copying over the smutil.jar / smoracle.jar / smbase.jar but it complains about java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.sun.sql.jdbc.oracle.OracleDriver
    Is there a pain-free way to get Creator to play with Web Server 6.1 nicely? I seem to either run into Oracle THIN JDBC problems (main code above) or otherwise running into situations where Creator and Web Server 6.1 doesn't like each other (alternative 1 and 2).
    Thanks for your input
    Regards
    Thomson K

    Hi there, sorry for the trouble. I found the following thread:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=48&threadID=417560
    I am using Oracle 8, I had followed the instructions in that thread and still get the error.. but you can ignore this thread for now I will pursue this in the other thread. Sorry for taking your time.
